Can you import and export all the data you have in this software as CSV? In case in the future I want to move on to a different accounting software. Great video by the way thank you so much.

Good overview. If you are a Business customer in Canada, RBC (Royal Bank) offers a Wave service for free. (Some options probably require fees such as Credit card payments). I was curious to see if this could be a good alternative to Quicken Home and Business.

I've been using Quickbooks since 2008 and I'm switching to Wave because Quickbooks won't let me download QB2008 version to a new laptop.

And it doesn't track inventory as well 😪

Wave doesn't allocate or match the transactions of the expenses as QBO does and this is frustrating specially if we need to allocates 300+ expenses manually and grab the accounts and vendors of every transaction!!

I started using Wave at the start of this financial year because - you guessed it - I needed to send professional-looking invoices to my new clients. It's a lot easier to use than the semi-manual process I've been using for the past 7 years but it doesn't have all the features of paid systems like Quicken / QuickBooks / Xero. There are a few things I still have to do using my old system, but WaveApps.com is FREE which is perfect for a small business like mine.

Thanks this looks great! I'll give it a try!

I tried Wave but found it slow on the internet and slightly confusing. Then tried Slickpie (another Canadian app Vancouver based) and loved it. Faster on the web and quick friendly support. Check it out!

A bit confusing (not you, their UX): at the 6:18 mark you put in a price for your line item, which I presume you then think of as expressed as 99 CAD. But then changing the currency at the bottom actually has the line item you had entered kept at 99, but it's now become 99 USD instead. Maybe they should ask for the Invoice currency in the beginning of composing an invoice. Any experience with InvoiceNinja or FreeAgent?
dottotech (5 months ago)
You assign the price and currency in the invoice. Later when you are reconciling the account it will convert and assign the converted value depending on the currency of your bank account.

Great free business accounting tool Steve. I was looking for a simple cloud system to replace Quicken for biz and the too pricey QuickBooks Online. Wave fits my needs perfectly. Thanks for dropping it in my lap!

Hey Steve, What do you think of And.co?
Denise Silva (5 months ago)
They own Fiverr, I am sure that they have something planned. Look at Facebook or even Youtube, it's free, right? Actually, wrong. We are the product and they have been collecting and using our data for free and now they are selling it in the form of ads... So we've paid the "free" in a very expensive way. This is to address the "free" version. Besides, first, they hook you then if you want to reach people you have to pay. Isn't that the way to make business nowadays? "Offer value, offer value then attack!" Actually, if you use the Stripe option, I think -don't quote on that- I think they are already earning. Anyway, I find it interesting that they have placed everything that you need to start a freelance business in one place. Now, back to the above, see the amount of data that they are able to collect with the free offer... Is it still free? Food for thought. Have a great day and thanks for your short but very relevant videos.

Looks interesting, but how are they going to make money? I am reluctant to commit to a company where I do not see a business model

Another really useful demo thanks Steve. Here in the UK as a small self employed person (my company not me I'm 6ft 4ins)I use a paid for package called Quickfile. Wave appears to do all of this and is free. Another visit to this package covering Sales and Purchase of stock would be really useful, I for one will certainly be looking into the Wave app.

Unfortunately, Wave is not listed in the recently published HMRC compliant software for digital tax returns in the UK. If you're VAT registered in the UK you really need to use software which is on that list. Looking at Wave's community forums they are investigating whether they can become compliant. Let's hope they can.

Been using Wave for a couple of years after over 20 years with Quickbooks. Much happier with Wave, Cheaper and easier to use!
MA1973 (4 days ago)
Interesting - what made you seek out an alternative after so long? I looked at QB but, like a lot of on-services" they hide the real price under layers of "offers". Website hosts are the worst offender.

Thanks, Steve for the info/demo on Wave. Although free, I don't think it will persuade my business away from feature-rich Freshbooks (also a Canadian company).
Phyllis Khare (5 months ago)
Interesting. I just decided to close my Freshbooks account and move it to Wave! This will save me over $200/yr.
