Thanks for this! Worked just fine, it's just what I needed! I'm very glad there's a way to do this by setting up a connection -- I did NOT want to have to use an add-in or something else unless it was absolutely necessary. This is cleaner. I especially like the Refresh ability.

This websites uses comma instead of full stop. Any one recommended website that has X-rates with comma?

crashes excel for me. worked only on 5th time. phew... btw having it update every time the file is opened makes it take 10sec to open the file. and even having it "silently" do it once an hour causes excel to freeze for 5sec even with background refresh enabled, with a pretty fast system too. so i ended up setting mine to update only once per 12h.

Hi. Did you find an option to update on specific date? Past&present date? CC @ MJ Tube

Thanks for the video MJ! Just one question - is there a way to set it so that previously populated cells retain the original currency exchange rate they were calculated using at the time of entering the data? I will be filling in the table over the course of a month, and wish the forex rate I use to be relevant to the day on which I did the calculation. So for instance, if the USD/EUR rate was X on Monday, and I entered a line item on Monday which used that rate, I want that rate to remain unchanged when on Friday I return to the table and enter another line item and Friday's rate which is now Y. I want the calculation for the original item entered on Monday at X rate to stay at X rate and not update to Y rate. Is that possible? Thanks in advance.

Did you ever find a solution to your question. I also would like the value to "not update" once "Pulled" from a table that floats. I'm using it for a Pip calculator in my Forex journal and this would vary my stats continuously.

I like your idea. I will take this currency converter to a MUCH higher level in my next video (releasing in 4 days from now) so stay tuned.

Excellent video. What version of Excel are you running? Does this feature exist in Excel 2011?
Chris Laing (1 year ago)
There is no button called "From Web" where you can paste a URL. Can you suggest how to do it in a previous version? There is a button which says "Import data from a HTML file", but it requires you to open up a file, not paste a weblink.

Fhazel Johennesse (1 year ago)
Hi MJ - I tried this. Repeatedly. I am getting the dreaded '#value' error in the destination cell (your cell J3 in the example) for the calculation. When I step through the calculation steps, it seems that the imported currency format cell does not have required format for the calculation. What am i doing wrong?
Fhazel Johennesse (1 year ago)
Tx but I worked it out eventually: the default decimal indicator in my country (South Africa) is a comma. I Changed this to a 'full stop' and the imported numbers are no longer being treated as text. Worked like charm!
