5:45 You already know it's a failure by the newscasters line, "....drawing THOUSANDS of visitors......." A 100,000,000 dollar ark replica draws THOUSANDS of visitors? This is definitely a flop. He needed minimum in the 10's of thousands on just the opening day to pull in anywhere near the amount he was hoping for. I don't think Ken Ham realized how poor bible thumpers are lmfao.

I'll tell you who's getting something in return...the GD government workers who approved the incentives.  They are getting a kickback....believe that.

incentives: exactly. what would they do with all that extra money? They are clearly the type of business that does not need an incentive. And if you don't offer an incentive these clowns could probably build their own country anyways and give themselves an incentive fer faks sake. The world is a joke sometimes.

It seems to me that he’s arguing against lower taxes for people while usually every other episode is how the government is wasteful; corrupt, and dysfunctional. Its a completely senseless argument. Once you admit that even a single taxpayer dollar was wasted, stolen, or misused, it immediately becomes preferable to simply not tax that dollar in the first place. An even more dangerous assertion I see lately is the misnomer that giving tax breaks or tax cuts is the same thing as spending money, which obviously makes no sense.

This whole segment is incredibly shortsighted. Business that thrive in a certain state/city are going to create JOBS (yes, I know how i sound) which in turn creates revenue for said state/city through taxes. Lower taxes mean more small business can thrive (and small businesses are probably those businesses most affected by the "create one job per year" rule). If you take 1,000 people who are on unemployment and taking from the system and give them jobs with income that is taxable and they in turn go and spend money on purchasing things they need/want that improves the economy of the region. It might be a problem that BIG businesses are getting such large tax breaks, but every county knows that they would rather give a company a huge tax break than have said company move their ass down to another county and lose 100% of the economic benefits the company brings. HOW DOES JOHN NOT GET THIS?

They are running odd headlong into battles leaving their houses and investments to despair. The scribes are not working and several industries are left to failing. I shall contact the enticements and mitigations officer from the New Spain militia and send a call to Project Paperclip. We will gain acquisitions of Du Pont and begin maritime piracy...Open the coffers and begin battle investments. It is time to strike! JK, LOL.

And all this time, I have believed that only dummy economists like Uganda’s Museveni offer zero tax incentives to foreign corporates to attack their investment! How have I survived without John Oliver!

But do we have a valuable place to put taxes. I'm not saying that we shouldn't look at where are tax breaks are going but if we're going to do that we also need to look at were are taxes are going. Working a minimum wage job and taxes taking $160.00 off of Each check and almost getting to 10% taxes on basic needs. We need to reevaluate were are taxes are going.

First of all, I love your show. BUT, this is not, by any means, the definition of economic development. And I'm not saying this to disagree with your message. On the contrary, I agree that tax breaks are not an effective way to incentive jobs and I say this because they're an option out of many. For instance, public investment is a very effective way to create more jobs. If you invest money on education or healthcare, either buying computers or machinery for a hospital or a school, or by hiring new doctors or teachers, you are either creating a job directly (hiring) or indirectly, by creating demand for the companies that sells those computers or equipment. And the best news is, the company that sells you the equipment will need more people to increase its production, and the people you hire will consume things and create incentives to a great number of companies. And the best news is: all of them will pay their taxes, so you get your investment back.

So clearly all of this is done for political mileage. None of them politicians care about the economic downsides, and I am pretty sure they understand all this but don't bother because it is not in their political interest to do so. In fact, the opposite: it is in their political interest to appear to side with corporations and lie about "job creation" because the public eats it up and keeps voting them in. Which makes me think all the time: is there a practical way to switch the incentives over where it's in the best interest of politicians to actually care about the people and the community genuinely rather than corporations? I have spent many a day thinking about this but I can't think of a single, even remotely feasible idea. :(

Nearly every solvable problem facing humanity is a result of a, now global, acceptance of a fundamentally dysfunctional, unfair, incomprehensible, and thoroughly corrupt economic system. We have abandon basic decency and common sense, and replaced it with the Profit Motive. Drumpf is a symptom of our economic insanity.

You know what's funny? If they had SMART politicians, they would simply look at these to ensure that the tax incentives were REASONABLE. Enough to get people to bring their business, without going PAST THAT, while ensuring that the tax break isn't worth more than the potential BENEFIT!!!!! And I bet you ANYTHING that they are NOT EVEN CALCULATING THAT. If only these tax breaks remained REASONABLE, the United States would EASILY be able to pay for Universal healthcare. In fact, if Trump can give HUGE tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires (people, not corporations) on the taxpayers dime, there is NO REASON they can't offer it right now! In fact, your CURRENT costs for healthcare in the States, per capita, is DOUBLE our costs in Canada, per capita, and we get a Hell of a lot more. And our healthcare, isn't even the most efficient from my understanding. No, moral people aren't okay with children and babies dying, because their parents' insurance doesn't cover the cost, and they don't have the money. And a lot of the people arguing against Universal Healthcare, are the ones that DESPERATELY need it. Ones that better PRAY no one in their family gets sick (hint: praying doesn't work anyway). It isn't just for poor people. If the gov't pays it directly (not Obamacare - that was a bad idea, but I'm guessing that he was working within the idiotic framework the Senators / Congress were forcing him into), they will ensure the costs stay reasonable. Twenty years ago, US hospitals were charging $1.00 for a plastic band-aid. WHAT??? Something that costs them $0.10? An ear infection cost $15,000, and an emergency heart by-pass (one surgery) costs OVER $350,000 - that one surgery, plus the follow-up expenses could easily cost your house AND your business. Universal health care helps EVERYONE (except the top 1%). Not just the poor, like your politicians have CLEARLY been trying to sell to you. And the US government (and this will NEVER happen with Trump as he could care less how many people die) REALLY needs to control the cost of drugs. They are BEYOND unreasonable. They are holding people's lives for ransom. Because, there is NO WAY that ANY pharmaceutical costs anywhere NEAR $80,000 for a 30 day supply, but THAT is what they are charging for some life-saving drugs - beyond immoral. And I want people to research how much the medical treatments cost - whatever you're worried about - if you have Cancer in your family, look up Chemo & radiation. They are expensive - far more than the average person could afford. Dialysis is much worse. The cost of dialysis is $89,000 / year!!! Unless you are making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year (and sometimes not even then), it will NEVER be a matter of managing your money well. You could be excellent with your money and never HOPE to pay these costs. And without dialysis, you die. It doesn't keep for you, until you raise the money. And I want to tell all Americans something you NEED to know. Forget, "I'll get healthcare if I need it. Because, by the time you need it, you will NOT be able to afford it. Even if the new Trump healthcare allows pre-existing conditions, if you wait until you get sick (let's say you find out that you have kidney failure), your premiums will be well over $89,000/year (or OVER $7,500/month). WHY, might you ask? Because they are a business. If they know that you are going to need dialysis, their premiums will OF COURSE cost MORE than the cost of that dialysis, because they know they will have to pay out $89,000/year, plus more if you get sicker, so they have to charge AT LEAST that much. Private health care was designed to be like fire insurance. You pay for it, when you don't need it, so IF you do, you're covered. Like ALL insurance, everyone contributes, so that there is coverage for that one or two of you that has a fire (for house insurance) or health issues. That means that your only real option (like my only option is) would be group health care (if you tried to get healthcare AFTER getting sick), like through work (if the work plan even covers that). Now, in my case, it's only an issue for drugs and dental, because I live in Canada (and we have options for help with prescriptions as well). I am very happy that I don't have to worry about my basic Healthcare, or I would be so worried that stress would make my health 10x worse. On top of my issue, a family member had a stroke recently, so believe me, I feel very lucky that I was born in Canada. If you DO ever get a working Universal health care system (like all moral, first world nations should have), I guarantee, with no doubt whatsoever, that you will look back on this debate, and wonder WTH the hub-ub was about. Once you decide you need it. Put the congressmen (or whomever) in a room - no cameras, so there will be no beating of chests, and work it out. If other countries can manage to have a sustainable universal health care system, so can you (or isn't the USA as rich as other countries???). You have different people research different country's health care systems (two per system, in case one misses things), and you compare. You decide which would work best for you. Or take aspects from different countries. To initiate your own, when other people have already done the grunt work and worked out the growing pains, is, in a word, stupid. Being the last (or one of the last) 1st world countries to get universal health care gives you an advantage. That others have already went through this. To not USE that advantage, because your own arrogance doesn't like the thought of copying another country's system is stupid. There is no other word for it.

Parents that try to convince their children that the Bible is literally true are nearly guilty of child abuse. They're essentially putting intellectual constraints on them that force them to opt out of the modern world, lest they betray their parents. Those kids are going to have go through life with their fingers in their ears, tie their minds in nots and logical pretzels, and filter everything they encounter through an obviously fictional Bronze-Age lens in order to cope with everyday, common-sense information they encounter. Why is faith pushed so hard by religion as some sort of virtue? Because the writers knew that it's the only way to convince rational people to accept something they'd otherwise recognize as patently ridiculous. Biblical literalism is a philosophical viewpoint that's only gained significant purchase in the last few centuries. Look at writings by members of the clergy and church fathers from 1000-2000 years ago and they talk about Genesis being allegorical. That's not to say I think it's particularly useful allegory, but even priests in the Middle Ages thought a literal interpretation of the Bible pushed the bounds of reason.

It is possible to account for broader economic impact of industry growth using input-output tables. Its usually refered to as the input multiplier. I have yet to day to see an input multiplier high enough to even in best case scenario to make two of the three states investment viable (the 22 cent one is actually possible i guess). Thing is, high multipliers dont tend to be for film industry, it tends to be for service industries like sport clubs.
