This reminds me that I lived in a small room with a lot of stuff of both me and my mom's for 8 years before I could move to an one bedroom apartment. It was like hell to rent a bedroom for all those years. There was no life at all. I really wish I can afford a bigger place someday. I think a comfortable home is essential for people to be able to relax after a day of work, and nowadays the rent and mortgage are hard to afford. Btw, can I say that I admire the reporter? Because it looks like he has full of spirit.

I’ve been there a few times. I imagined how hard it would be to get around in a wheel chair. It’s not a very accessible city for disabled people.

I can't believe 3 or 4 of them can't get together and rent a apartment and build their own boxes lol
Amelia Lane (8 days ago)
Inhumane. The rich gets all of it.
Julian Sung (9 days ago)
Technically the Chinese government owns all the land so developers have to bid for it with huge prices. That's the main reason why housing is so expensive. Environmentalists are also sacrificing homes for hundreds of thousands of people because they simply refuse to build homes in plots of country parks
Turki Kaboha (10 days ago)
Why living in HK then?

We, sometimes complaining because we thought, what we have is not enough. But what we dont know, is that..a lots of people struggling more in this what we called life. People who doesnt have choice than to live in uncomfortable situations. That for them, life is only about food and shelter in order to survive. This video, makes me more realize, that, material things couldnt buy the happiness of contenment. Life is not complicated and hard....but, we,makes life complicated and hard.

I used to think that my 1200 sqf apartment is too small for me and my wife, after watching a couple of Hong Kong living condition YouTube videos, i changed my mind, i feel so blessed of what i have, compared to these HK poor community and probably 60% of the world's population that is in the poorer state.
Ratboy 367 (14 days ago)
Whoa whoa whoa..u ended this blaming it on consequence of run away capitalism. Hong Kong does not have a land problem the government owns all the land and zoning is extremely expensive and strict which in turn raises cost of living for property.
Androgynous 14u (14 days ago)
I know this isn't necessarily regarding this video, which I'm quite opinionated on, but will save for another time, but I really like this journalist / reporter. I've watched many of his documentaries & he exposes things for exactly what they are & brings light to some of the darkest places we would know nothing about if not for videos like this & people like him.

MrMiamiswaggz305 (19 days ago)
Jesus Christ, there’s always someone who has it worst.... Hell, someone is probably living on the streets right outside the complex. That unregulated capitalism is insane. What happens if these people abandon the jobs to go live off the land(country lifestyle).
Rosechad Grg (19 days ago)

HK is paradise for Hk corrupt government officials, communist locusts, rich people, developers but hell for regular citizen/poor people.

Hong Kong people should move to shenzhen and create hong kong resturants, store, etc. maybe house and apartment is cheaper than hong kong.
Diane R (21 days ago)
Composting toilets? Or does it all empty into a sewer plant?
Orang Indonesia (22 days ago)
Actually HK only use 20 percent of it's land for development and housing, the urban are mostly concentrated on Hongkong island and Kowloon Peninsula. Actually they still have a lot of land in the neighboring island and new Territories. The Government prefer those land for wildlife rather than for Housing. Singapore is much better in handling it's housing problem than Hongkong

See Chinese people. One the guy from china commented me. N had a long debate. That hong kong is heaven n all look at ur India. But i can say India is better in giving home n large spaces to homeless too. Don't hide ur dark sides. Look after those innocent Chinese people. They r struggling. Nd ur china is doing big big projects investing lots of money. Shame. From. INDIA. Feeling bad fr that old man. Maybe I can help him. India wants peace evrywer

why don't they just come to America where the only housing they can get if they do not have money to pay rent is living on the street. I'd rather live in one of those Shanty units then live on the streets at any day.

Almost the hong kong chinese were.living in the hypocrisy and jealousy with a fake smile of facade.it was the chinese selfish conception by the ideology.

I am sizing down to a tiny house 120sf. Luxurious! On beautiful acreage. I don't whine about it, I am glad it is paid off and my retirement is more than enough. Mainly it is partially underground and can stay warm enough without big heating bills during our cold winters. Adding a greenhouse and root cellar. Most here could leave congested cities, Hong Kong, not so much.

If you want to know what happens when wage disparity reaches this level . The rich buys all the properties driving up the prices to the level where the poor can never afford a roof over their heads . They are then forced to rent from the rich at extortionate prices which keeps them in poverty their entire lives perpetuating the rich gets richer poor gets poorer scenario . We are heading that direction faster than we think .

I think the reporter actually really made that second guy feel even worse about his room than he already did - and if you've ever been homeless that place looks like a palace.
