Studies have shown that drinking a glass of wine every day is incredibly beneficial for your system: it removes toxins from your body and improves your brain function. We decided to find out whether these statements are true by having one glass of wine a day for a whole month. The experiment started out great: I felt super sophisticated having my evening wine in front of the TV. But on Day 3, the alcohol started messing with my sleep cycle. I started craving water during these little bedtime disruptions. In fact, this crazy nighttime thirst became so frequent that I would keep a glass of water on my night stand. One of the best things that happened during the experiment was a change in how I “partied” with my friends. I would invite people over for a glass of wine, and those who were game, showed up. In the middle of Week 2 of the experiment, my appearance had changed. Unfortunately, it wasn’t for the better. A weight gain and dark circle under my eyes and breakouts – it wasn’t something I wanted to get. I checked my blood pressure every day, and I can say with confidence that alcohol didn't change a thing in that respect. My health was perfectly fine. But by the end of the experiment, I started having trouble concentrating, and I felt weak and tired most of the time. For one, drinking at home from time to time definitely has its perks. Getting rid of unnecessary get-togethers is also a big reward from this experiment. It helped me figure out who I want to spend my time with and who I don’t mind seeing less often. Plus, I got so interested in the whole culture of drinking wine and eating cheese. On the downside, I can't agree with scientists on this one. In my opinion, drinking wine on a daily basis does no good for your health, even if it's just one glass. Most weight loss tips don't work long-term because they focus on quick fixes. In this video, I'm going to share 9 science-backed tips that do work and have research to back them up. These are the tips that helped me lose 40 pounds gradually and keep it off. I was 160 pounds at my heaviest weight and today I am just below 120 pounds - at the time of this video I am 119 pounds. My height is just a tad under 5' 5'' (165 cm). I lost the weight in two phases. In phase 1, where I drastically reduced my sugar intake and increased my daily activity, I went from 160 pounds to 140 pounds. Then, I hovered between 135 and 140 pounds for most of my twenties. In my thirties, I decided to drop some more body fat to reduce my risk of diabetes. I went from 135 pounds to 120 pounds in my mid-thirties. This was the hardest weight to lose and it didn't drop off as easily as the first 20 pounds. I focused on eating whole, unprocessed foods and daily activity (exercise and non-exercise related too) as well as other lifestyle and nutrition changes. The tips in this video have helped me lose the excess weight and also keep it off. These aren't changes to make for a short period of time. These are all long-term changes that require consistency. When it comes to weight loss, CONSISTENCY is key. There are many different ways to lose weight, so do what works for you, but keep it consistent. Good luck on your weight loss journey! Exercise alone can help you lose weight Let me be clear, exercise is amazing for a variety of reasons Better blood flow Improved posture Gaining lean muscle tissue to help you burn more calories Heart health And a variety of other things. Exercise is something your body needs and something you should be doing. This allows the Japanese to naturally burn calories as they commute to and from work or school every day. - Tea, especially the green variety, is the number one beverage in Japan. Green tea has been praised for having a ton of major health benefits, like increasing metabolism, burning fat, fighting anxiety, and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, to name a few. - The practice of using chopsticks also helps in weight management, since they make you eat more slowly and in smaller bites. Susan brown director of the Center for better bones today I want to talk to you just a few minutes about you got it stress just like this woman I bet many of you have felt extreme stress at many times stress actually has a very detrimental effect on bone for over 30 years I've been working with individuals to help them maximize their bone health and I would say practically every other day someone asked me say could stress be the cause of my osteoporosis and recently I reported to you in one of our better bones blogs that indeed now the scientific articles are talking about how stress induced osteoporosis is a real phenomena the stress situation works like this what we know of it so far is that there's a response in our brain from thoughts we have in the hypothalamus that sends hormones chemical messengers to the pituitary the pituitary sends messages to the adrenal and the adrenals produces cortisol cortisol is one of our primary stress hormones it's actually the get-up-and-go hormone that protects us from wild animals in the forest when we're attacked but if we're under the stress response consistently we develop the production of too much cortisol that cortisol causes inflammation in the body uses up our precious nutrients and wears down bone so the gist of stress reduction is to modify the way we think about things modify our response to the life to all of life's complications and all of life messiness enough so that we do not produce too much cortisol and we have a balance within our nervous system and this is where we tie in with today's discussion of the 12 poses for yoga that Gina developed for you in the exercise evolution this week Gina was showing you dr. Lawrence Fishman twelve poses for yoga these poses of yoga for osteoporosis he has shown actually build bone and he's done an Internet study showing people who did these 12 poses built bone and my point about this is not only are you going to build bone if you do yoga but you're also going to relax your nervous system you're going to reduce the cortisol response like recently I was looking at the medical studies every two weeks I review all the new medical studies on bone health and several of them this period were about the stress response and particularly about cortisol for example this first one talked about how the cortisol we produce within our body not the cortisol that we take like in the form of prednisone but just the cortisol the excess cortisol we can produce through our thoughts and our emotional responses can actually have effect on RNA genetic system that actually damages bone causes more bone breakdown and there's other studies just looking at stress how it produces how we produce cortisol in response to stress and how that leads to both depression and low bone density and the final article I picked up was a really fascinating long article on all the nuts and bolts all the technicalities of the biochemical signals that go through the body when we're under stress and how that affects bone my point is it's some exercises actually increased cortisol like if I run ten miles and wear myself body out my body out like I'm running like if some tiger were chasing me I produce cortisol and the body has to settle down from there those exercises have their benefit but personally I really appreciate yoga tai chi Chi cung because they actually reduced cortisol in the body they do not cause an excess cortisol they calm the nervous system and they develop a balance in a harmony within the whole body so I'm suggesting you're interested in in a resilience in lessening this aggravating stress response and in building bone do these twelve passes for yoga these twelve yoga postures for osteoporosis well let me get that straight you will enjoy them and you will relax and it will be very good for you and finally let me say if you really really want to dive a little bit deeper in this concept of stress reduction into creating resilience into yoga and meditation come join us for the love your bones love your life retreat we're doing it in May Himalayan Institute on the East Coast in Pennsylvania that's actually an active yoga center I'm going to work with everybody's case individually even before we go there this is your real opportunity to take a deep dive in building bones better body creating emotional resilience and having a lot of fun I hope to see you there
