Predicting Stock Price Mathematically

11:33
There are two prices that are critical for any investor to know: the current price of the investment he or she owns, or plans to own, and its future selling price. Despite this, investors are constantly reviewing past pricing history and using it to influence their future investment decisions. Some investors won't buy a stock or index that has risen too sharply, because they assume that it's due for a correction, while other investors avoid a falling stock, because they fear that it will continue to deteriorate. http://www.garguniversity.com Check out Ebook "Mind Math" from Dr. Garg https://www.amazon.com/MIND-MATH-Learn-Math-Fun-ebook/dp/B017QEIF18

Predicting Stock Price movement statistically

07:51
Predicting Stock Price movement statistically. Here we use historical data to predict the movement of stock price for next day. It is completely mathematically valid. The mathematical model of Brownian motion has several real-world applications. Stock market fluctuations are often cited, although Benoit Mandelbrot rejected its applicability to stock price movements in part because these are discontinuous. This is a momentum indicator used in technical analysis, which compares the stock's closing price to its price over the course of a particular time frame. During an upward trend in the market, a stock's share price will close near its high (highest price traded), and when in a downward-trending market, the security's price will close near the low (lowest price traded). This may determine whether a stock is overbought or oversold, thus predicting a possible momentum change. http://www.garguniversity.com Check out Ebook "Mind Math" from Dr. Garg https://www.amazon.com/MIND-MATH-Learn-Math-Fun-ebook/dp/B017QEIF18

Creating Excel Normal Distribution Curve - When to buy or sell stocks Day Trading

13:08
Question: Based upon historical data, what is the probability of the market going down tomorrow if the past few days it was up? This video will show how to make a normal distribution curve using the positive movements of the S&P 500 Index, AKA the market. Normal distribution curves illustrate the probability of an outcome occurring. They can be used to help determine when to buy or sell a position by identifying how abnormal an outcome is. This video does not illustrate how to remove outliers or other methods that are needed to increase the reliability of a curve. Excel Tools we will be using: - If function - Remove Duplicates - Random Number Generator - Frequency Function - Arrays Youtube does not allow the greater than/less than symbol in the description. Just input the symbol into these formulas Formula 1 Daily Changes: (G3-G2)/G2 Formula 2 Up Before Down: =IF(I2="",IF(H3 GREATER THAN 0,H3,""),IF(H3 GREATER THAN0,(H3+1)*(I2+1)-1,"")) Formula 3 Cumulative up movement before down: =IF(AND(I4="",H3 GREATER THAN 0),I3,"")

Calculating a Stock's Standard Deviation | Trading Data Science

13:34
How understanding standard deviation helps us better understand stock moves and the opportunities that we can trade to take advantage of these moves. See more options trading videos: http://ow.ly/P0EmG Today, on this segment of "The Skinny on Options Data Science", Tom Sosnoff and Tony Battista along with our own Dr. Data (Michael Rechenthin, PhD) explain the concept of standard deviation and how to easily use it with free online tools. The term "standard deviation" is often mentioned when a stock makes a large move. e.g. 'the stock make a two standard deviation move'. This segment explains what that means, how it relates to historical volatility and how we can easily calculate standard deviation using free online tools. Standard deviation quantifies the amount of variation within data, the larger the standard deviation, the larger the dispersion. We can look at a bell curve of a normal distribution with one, two and three standard deviation moves marked out along with a percentage of move that would fall within each (from the mean) up or down. Takeaways: Standard deviation can be used to better understand data. We can calculate standard deviation of daily stock returns using free Google Sheets. Historical volatility is the annualized standard deviation of price returns. Math is the most feared four-lettered word around, even to Tom and Tony. Luckily the well dressed Dr. Data is here to show how to tame the beast and even use it to make money. Check out his segments on analysis and data manipulation to understand the reasoning behind our trades. Welcome to a Python for Finance tutorial series. In this series, we're going to run through the basics of importing financial (stock) data into Python using the Pandas framework. From here, we'll manipulate the data and attempt to come up with some sort of system for investing in companies, apply some machine learning, even some deep learning, and then learn how to back-test a strategy. I assume you know the fundamentals of Python. If you're not sure if that's you, click the fundamentals link, look at some of the topics in the series, and make a judgement call. If at any point you are stuck in this series or confused on a topic or concept, feel free to ask for help and I will do my best to help. https://pythonprogramming.net https://twitter.com/sentdex https://www.facebook.com/pythonprogramming.net/ https://plus.google.com/+sentdex

2. Can Stock Charts Predict The Future? Trading Systems

06:32
Case Study: So can charts really predict the future? Visit: https://www.learnapp.co Or do we need other things to be profitable? ------------------------------------------------------- Transcript: Today we will be answering an interesting question, over the years I have been asked this question several times. How can you predict the future when the only thing you know is the past, can data predict the future (stock market). Can charts predict the future using technical analysis? I'm going to answer this question with a small case study, so we can understand this better. Well first, the premise of the question is actually wrong, you don't need to predict the market in order to make profits, what you do need is a system which you have tested properly add a dash of money management and you have got a recipe to be a profitable trader. Number two crowd psychologies, now every time you put on that trade be it a buy or be it a sell you are trading with another human being. Alan Greenspan once said "irrational exuberance" for a great bull market; this is also the reason why you see stocks plunge in one day, which we call a crash. This happens because people become greedy and scarred in an instant. Crowd [psychology plays a very important role and charts can imprint that. number three, empirical data, traders use historical price as we say, over many years, they analyse it which we call quantitative analysis and try to find or decipher a commonly recurring pattern, this helps us identify something that keeps happening, add a way to manage risk and you are on your way to success. Now the theory part of this is over. Case study: Your trading system Let's suppose you are great at trading the symmetrical triangle now for those people who don't know what a symmetrical triangle is it is basically price converging at the acentral point ther are grouped under continuation patterns and once you reach the end of the pattern; this is what it looks like it will generally break upwards (in an uptrend) or fall down (in a downtrend). Now let's say you decide to make a system out of this, you need 1) Time frame (15min charts) 2) Method/setup (trade the symmetrical triangle) 3) Stock List (list of 5 stocks to trade) Its impossible to trade all stocks on the nifty index (50 index) , so lets take 5 stocks which we trade everyday and trade this pattern. Reliance, reliance capital, GMR , LT Larsen and toubro and Nifty futures, so this is your stock list. Backtesting Now we will take these conditioned and run it though a test of 2-3 years and see what we get. Let's suppose we see that : 70% of the time trades move 2% in your favour Now this is a great find, all we need to do now is manage our risk and reward. The main thing in trading is not the method but money management. Preserving capital and managing risk is what we are doing to earn living trading stocks. So 70% stocks move in your favour and 30% of the time they are against you. so out of 10 trades, 7 trades are profits of 2% each Therefore 7 profit * 2 = +14% 3 loss * 1 = -3% Net gain 11% We limited out losses to maximum of 1% per trade, this enabled us to get a great risk reward. This is why you don't need to predict the market, you need to follow a system, that is tested thoroughly and manage your risk and make sure that your losses are smaller than your profits. This is the holy grail,, this is the "magic indicator" this is the most important ingredient in the trading strategy cauldron.

Predicting Stock Price with Machine Algorithms (Part 1) | Skinny on Options: Data Science

13:37
Michael Rechenthin, Ph.D. (Dr. Data) explained how all models rely on previously known data such as market prices. Last week in the segment on July 7, 2016, "Predicting (Extrapolating) the Future" Dr. Data explained the science based method of attempting to predict the future which is known as predictive modeling. Today’s segment is part 1 of a planned two part series. Mike uses his visual tools of Data Science to make the intimidating subject of regression algorithms and what information we can glean from them that is most important, easily understood. A list of information used in models to help them predict future price was displayed in a table. The types of information listed were, historical price data, sector the underlying is in, near a yearly high/low, historical historical Implied Volatility (IV), past month’s price range, news out, near earnings, and outside of the 1 Standard Deviation price range. Dr. Data then noted that most researchers start with regression algorithms. They try to predict prices in the future, while minimizing any errors. Using a series of graphs Mike contrasted two different models. One was much better at coming closer to the actual price. It’s error, the eventual actual price minus the predicted price was small. Dr. Data explained that the second model, in which the error level was much higher, was actually much better because it more accurately predicted direction. Mike demonstrated why direction is much more important. Predicting the magnitude of the move correctly is great but we can be way off on the magnitude and still make money as long as we get direction right. That’s the big problem with regression algorithms. Watch this segment of The Skinny On Options Data Science with Tom Sosnoff, Tony Battista and Dr. Data (Michael Rechenthin, Ph.D) as Mike explains the weakness of regression algorithms and the importance of direction over a lower magnitude of error and he does it in a way that is understandable to all tastytraders. ======== tastytrade.com ======== Hosted by Tom Sosnoff and Tony Battista, tastytrade is a real financial network with 8 hours of live programming five days a week during market hours. Data Update 1 for 2019: Stocks are risky (in case we had forgotten)!

12:49
After an extended bull market, investors were surprised again in 2018 to find out the stocks were risky and that there is a reason why we earn an equity risk premium. In 2018, the pain in US stocks was almost entirely felt in the last quarter, and while it was a down year for stocks, it was only a mildly bad year, by historical standards. Using the equity risk premium as measuring device, I look at stocks at the end of 2018, and while the current numbers are more supportive of the notion that stocks are under valued, not over, concerns about economic growth in 2019 and 2020 may hold you back. Where Next For The World's Stock Markets?

05:05
Welcome to the third in my trilogy called where next for? We’ve looked at interest rates and property prices, so today I want to look at the future for stocks and shares by asking the important question, where next for the world’s stock markets? It was quite something at the Elite Investor Summit to hear people of the calibre of Mark Dampier, Justin Urquhart Stewart and Tim Price say that they’ve never known a tougher time to predict what’s happening in the markets. Yet that was a common theme of their talks at the Elite Investor Summit. One of Justin’s slides put it as a simple set of bullet points: Low growth, low inflation, low interest rates, low returns, now make some money! The reality is that things are complicated by varying degrees of government and central bank interference with the natural workings of the market. Money Week’s James Ferguson showed this powerful slide comparing America’s S&P500 with the UK’s FTSE 100 with and without the effects of Quantative Easing. The American index has trebled during three periods of QE while the FTSE has gone nowhere since the UK abandoned its own QE programme. So is the American market fair value after all this manipulation? For that we need to look at the price earnings ratio of the market not just today but based on ten years of cyclically adjusted data. You might remember my Caped Crusader video where I dressed as Batman to explain Robert Shillers CAPE metric. At a CAPE of 27 the American market is well above its long run average of sixteen, and in fact its only been higher just before the nineteen twenty nine crash and during the tech bubble in the year two thousand. James Ferguson confirms this analysis, showing that the S&P is trading right at the top of its channel and is worryingly over valued. Russell Napier showed that US corporate profits are at their highest level ever and the only scope for them to increase would be the formal re-introduction of slavery. The UK’s FTSE is around its long term average so, while it doesn’t technically look expensive, its hard to see what’s going to drive it up from these levels unless Mark Carney reaches for the green button on the printing press any time soon. Returns from the FTSE have disappointed for quite a while now yet, as with property prices, there’s a whole generation of financial advisers spouting the conventional wisdom that stocks and shares will give you a predictable return of around seven per cent a year. And they back that theory up by heavily investing you in UK shares without the kind of global diversification that people like Andrew Craig deem necessary to achieve reliable growth regardless of the performance of individual indices. So where can we find growth? America counts for fifty seven per cent of the weighting in the MSCI global index. Tim Price prefers to focus on a country that accounts for just under nine per cent of the index, Japan. Mr Abe continues to be the biggest user of QE and his addiction has a predictable outcome. The Japanese stock market goes up and the value of the yen comes down. So, provided you can hedge the currency risk, the Japanese market looks to be one of the most likely to reward investors in the year ahead. Taking a longer term demographically driven view, Harry Dent sees a bright future for some of the world’s smaller countries including Australia, Israel, Norway and Switzerland. That could take a long time to translate into stock market success, but these countries should at least be on your watch list so you can research the opportunities and take a view on the best time to gain some exposure to these countries. When it comes to predicting where stock markets are headed, now more than ever you need to read the political pages as much as the financial section. As we’ve seen with Greece, challenging economic times can bring rapid and extreme political change. The tendency seems likely to be for more meddling rather than less going forward, so traditional technical analysis may not be enough. Before you decide which stock markets to rely on for your financial future, be very careful out there…

Calculate stock Beta in Excel using SLOPE function In this video post, we are going to see how to calculate stock Beta in Excel using SLOPE function. I've explained the second part (how to calculate beta in Excel) of the process How to Calculate Beta of a Stock Using Excel in the video. Diversification and Beta We diversify the portfolio to reduce total risk. By doing this, only systematic risk remains. Beta is used to measure systematic risks. A conservative investor would look for beta of 0.5 whereas an aggressive trader would look for the betas around 1.5. If one is looking for reducing total risk, he should go for good diversification strategy instead of lower betas.
