An Introduction to Linux IPC Facilities
Presenter(s): Michael Kerrisk URL: http://lca2013.linux.org.au/schedule/30020/view_talk Pipes, FIFOs, signals, datagram and stream sockets (and sockets in the Unix versus Internet domains), file locks (various kinds!), environment variables, memory mappings, event file descriptors (eventfd), pseudo-terminals, message queues, semaphores, shared memory, and good old regular files... The range of interprocess communication and synchronization (often referred to collectively as IPC) facilities available on Linux can at first seem bewildering. Which facilities should an application use? This tutorial provides an overview of each of the IPC facilities, showing the features that the different facilities have in common, and the features that distinguish them. The aims of this tutorial are to provide developers with examples of the use of each of the IPC facilities and the beginnings of a roadmap to help decide which IPC facilities are likely to be most suitable when writing new applications. I'll compare different IPC facilities using measures such as portability, flexibility, ease of use, operational limits, configurability, persistence (lifetime), access control, integration with the traditional Unix "everything is a file" model and the UNIX/Linux API in general, and specific functional advantages and disadvantages. I'll also briefly consider whether one can make any general statements about relative performance of different IPC facilities. Although aimed primarily at developers, other participants (e.g., system administrators) may find the tutorial useful for gaining greater insight into the operation, configuration, and management of the various IPC facilities. A reading knowledge of C will be useful. http://lca2013.linux.org.au/ - http://www.linux.org.au CC BY-SA - http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode.txt

Swap turn signal sockets in Jeep Cherokee XJ with alternative GM part
If your turn signals go dim on your 84-96 XJ you need to replace the socket, not the bulb. You will not be able to find replacement sockets anywhere! But you can use an equivalent PN made for GM 1157 for model years 76-84 as seen in video. The wire colors will not match OEM. Solder these wires: New.....Old Black...Black Brown..Blue Yellow..Black/White It's that easy folks! Much better than driving without turn signals like Toyota assholes! Sockets are $5 each at most auto parts stores.

7500-3B Remote Control Sockets
7500-3B Remote Control SocketsA set of remote control wireless sockets allows for controlling electric equipment through a radio signal. Such sockets are indispensable at home, office or country house. The principle of operation is simple. When you push the button on the remote control, it transmits signal at the radio frequency of 433.92 mega hertz to switch on/off a socket. Each socket is programmed for one of eight possible signals. All you need is just to set a serial number for each socket and plug electric appliances that you want to control. This socket set may include up to eight sockets. Besides, you can control any number of receivers through one channel. To make operation easier, you can connect additional remote controls. So, now you know about remote control sockets that are extremely easy to operate. You can switch on/off lighting or other electric appliances lying on the sofa or sitting at the desk without the need to stand up.

Shunted vs. non-shunted sockets: How to determine which you need
Choosing the right socket, or tombstone, for your light fixture ensures that the fixture works properly and that you avoid dangerous fire hazards. This question is particularly relevant if you are retrofitting your lighting to a different kind of ballast or an LED tube. This video is meant to reflect broad-sweeping general recommendations for socket pairings, but there are exceptions. For example, there are T8 plug-and-play LEDs made to work with rapid-start ballasts and programmed-start ballasts, requiring non-shunted sockets. Always double check with your lighting specialist or the lighting manufacturer to confirm what sockets you need.  Let’s cover fluorescent tubes first. T12 tubes, which are one and a half inches in diameter, typically use non-shunted sockets. T8 tubes, which are one inch in diameter, can use either kind of socket. When paired with a rapid-start, programmed-start, or dimming ballast, T8 tubes typically require non-shunted sockets. When paired with an instant-start ballast, T8 tubes typically require shunted sockets. T5 tubes, which are five-eighths of an inch in diameter, follow the same guidelines as T8s. When paired with a rapid-start, programmed-start, or dimming ballast, T5 tubes typically require non-shunted sockets. When paired with an instant-start ballast, T5 tubes typically require shunted sockets. Now let’s look at LED tube applications. T8 and T5 replacement LED tubes that are plug-and-play compatible with the existing electronic ballast typically require shunted sockets. T8 LED tubes that are direct wire, meaning they bypass the ballast, typically require non-shunted sockets. Similarly, LED T8 tubes that use a remote driver or are plug-and-play compatible with a magnetic ballast typically require non-shunted sockets. There is the option to externally shunt a non-shunted socket with wires if you're looking to adapt a non-shunted socket for an instant-start ballast, for example. But, you’ll probably be better off buying new shunted sockets to avoid a lot of wiring work, especially if you have a large number of sockets to manually shunt. Additionally, converting a non-shunted socket for use in a shunted application should always be done by a licensed electrician. If you have a project you're working on and you need to find the right socket and tube combination, contact us here, and we'd be happy to help: https://info.regencylighting.com/what-are-you-working-on-sockets Are you wondering how to tell what kind of sockets you have? We show you how to correctly replace the HDMI port on a PS4. This job can be done in about 20 minutes if you have the experience and tools necessary. PS4 HDMI Port Repair Tips: -Be sure that you are using a good HDMI port. Many that you buy on Ebay and Amazon don't line up correctly -If the port is not hot enough it will not fall out and the circuit traces may tear off of the motherboard...still fixable but MUCH harder to repair. -Don't use a heat gun...just don't. -Soler each of the 19 pins on to the motherboard. Make sure there is no bridged solder pads and that each pin is soldered to it's corresponding pad. Clean up Corroded Auto Taillights & light sockets
Clean up Corroded Auto Taillights & light sockets If your taillights. parking lights or side marker lights are not working and it is not a burned out bulb, the chances are that you have a bad bulb socket. Most of the time a socket goes bad is due to corrosion. You might be able to clean out the corrosion of the bulb socket with WD40 and some emery paper. But the better way to get the bulb socket really clean and make sure the new bulb that you install has good contact, is to soak the bulb socket in a 50% solution of vinegar and water. The vinegar solution will dissolve any corrosion in the bulb socket safely without harming any metal or plastic. After you soak the bulb socket in the vinegar solution a good hour or more, you can then use some emery paper to remove any other corrosion and followup with some WD40 to prevent corrosion. Use electromotive grease when you install the new bulb, to make certain no moisture can corrode the bulb socket again.

#242: How to use an oscilloscope. Plus, seeing signals in antique radios | NJARC
This is a recording of a presentation I gave to the NJ Antique Radio Club on 8 July 2016 at Bowen Hall, Princeton University. It covers the basic controls and operation of an analog oscilloscope (the first 50 minutes or so), and then how you would setup the scope to measuring the signals in various locations in a typical antique AM radio (staring about 52 minutes in). We used a "trainer" radio, which is a classic All American Five type design, but spread out on a large board, making it easy to see the components and schematic at the same time. Many thanks to my friend and fellow YouTuber Bob (the RadioWild channel) for being the camerman. Also thanks to another youtuber, Robert (the AllAmericanFiveRadio channel) for some of the fine graphics used in the presentation. Diagnose Why Turn Signals Don't Work Or Don't Work Properly
Mia gives an overview of how turn signals work and then moves on to diagnostics. She explains how the wiring works. If none of the signals are working, then the problem is likely in this order: * Fuse(s) * Flasher * Switch * Wiring If one or two signals are not working, then usually the bulb is the problem. Could be switch or bulb sockets or wiring but most likely is the bulbs.

Increase your Internet Broadband Speed by 60% by using an ADSL faceplate and ADSL extension.
Hi, this 'How To' video shows a real example of an increase in internet ADSL broadband speed of over 60%. It is ideal if you want to fit an ADSL or VDSL faceplate but your router is located nowhere near your master socket. It shows you how to use your existing telephone extensions to provide a dedicated ADSL or VDSL extension which can help increase your broadband speed because the signal can degrade as it travels through voice telephone extension wiring. It is always best to install your router by your master socket but if this is not possible then follow the steps in this video. By using the setup in this video you stop the broadband signal travelling down the voice extensions and allow it to travel down a twisted pair of wires to the location of your router. In the UK master sockets are often located in the hallway because historically people had a single telephone in the hallway but this is not the ideal place for a router as most people want the router hidden away or next to the computer. In the video the router stats which shows what the line is capable of achieving went up over 60% but the actual results on speedtest.net stayed the same but this is due to DLM (Dynamic Line Management) which on Plusnet broadband can take up to 3 days to change so within 3 days of this video the actual speedtest.net speed would increase in line or just below the actual router stats. In hindsight I should have shown the before and after router stats page but I didn't BUT I did note down the results as a comparison. Thanks for watching. Many thanks Vince

Retention Sockets For Christmas Trees
Walsall MBC were familiar with the benefits of the NAL Retention Socket system as they use it for both Traffic Signal + Street Lighting installations. They decided that it was the ideal product to house their Christmas trees as it eliminates the annual civils installation costs involved in the erection of the trees. And we at #Trees4Xmas agree, which is why we’ve used a retention socket for the erection of one of our 12ft Nordmann Firs at Paddington Recreation Ground! Tree surgeons shape the base of the tree to ensure it fits into the socket and the retaining bolts secure it into position. The socket then lasts for 20 years, drastically reducing local borough Christmas costs.

Using 3157 bulbs in 3757 sockets
While I was filming the "one headlight inop" video, I noticed that the amber coating had burned off the front park/turn bulbs in the TB. Of course I had every bulb except the 3757A's I needed...so with a razor I knocked off both indexing tabs of the 3157s and they worked perfectly. They've been in the TB for two weeks now with no problems so it's safe to say that this will work for you.
