Beyond CSR: Corporate Political Responsibility (CPR)

03:01
Pursuing sustainability is no longer optional. Of the Fortune 500 companies, 80% now issue sustainability reports, and interest in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been growing for the past two decades. But it has become clear that CSR is not enough. Governmental policies still have the largest overall impact on social and environmental outcomes. To address this reality, corporate political actions (like lobbying and campaign funding) should be made fully transparent in order to ensure long term success. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Based on the article "CSR Needs CPR: Corporate Sustainability and Politics," by Thomas P. What are Environmental Ethics and Our Moral Responsibilities

07:16
We humans exploit the nature considering ourselves to be the most superior beings. We think that the nature is made for us to use, rather than thinking that we are just a part of the nature like all other non-human entities. This is where the need to have environmental ethics arises. Environmental ethics is a branch of environmental philosophy that studies the ethical relationship between human beings and the environment. This field has given a new dimension to the conservation and protection of the environment. Watch this video to know all about environmental ethics, the issues related to it and our moral responsibility towards it. Four12 Video Articles | The Church’s Responsibility to the Poor

Andrew Selley Scripture says that “true religion is to care for orphans and widows” (James 1:27Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)). What are the implications for the Church of this and many other commands in Scripture to care for the poor? How do we administrate this care-giving? Is this the same as the Tithe? The modern church is re-looking all of these issues and seems to be coming to very different conclusions. For answers to these questions, watch Andrew Selley as he unpacks a Biblical understanding of the Church’s responsibility to the poor. -------- ABOUT THE SPEAKER Andrew is the lead apostle of Four12. What are the universal human rights? - Benedetta Berti

04:47
View full lesson: http://ed.ted.com/lessons/what-are-the-universal-human-rights-benedetta-berti The basic idea of human rights is that each one of us, no matter who we are or where we are born, is entitled to the same basic rights and freedoms. That may sound straightforward enough, but it gets incredibly complicated as soon as anyone tries to put the idea into practice. What exactly are the basic human rights? Who gets to pick them? Who enforces them—and how? Benedetta Berti explores the subtleties of human rights. Lesson by Benedetta Berti, animation by Sarah Saidan.

(*WHY SOCIAL RESPONSBILITY*) IS (*CHANGING CORPORATIONS*)

03:03
Join us at http://www.DrMariaChurch.com/drmariatv/ where the discussion continues. Consumers, employees, and leaders are demanding socially responsible behavior of themselves and others. Walmart, Starbucks, Walt Disney, and many changing corporations are incorporating this policy into their competitive strategies. If companies choose not to comply with our wishes, we go elsewhere—because we can. Have you noticed the recent impact of social responsibility in our business culture? We see social responsibility manifested in the philanthropic activities organizations are doing; and they are not just writing checks to non-profits. Companies are building schools, putting shoes on children, and teaching third-world countries how to harvest water. We have business models emerging with the primary purpose of serving others. And guess what? These businesses are making money! They have learned how to connect the heart with the bank account. If you feel love within you, you will look out on a world with mercy and of love. That is exactly what some organizations are doing. As we explore this concept of social responsibility, changing corporations is a topic I love to discuss further with you. Did you enjoy this video? Michael Porter: Why business can be good at solving social problems

16:29
Why do we turn to nonprofits, NGOs and governments to solve society's biggest problems? Michael Porter admits he's biased, as a business school professor, but he wants you to hear his case for letting business try to solve massive problems like climate change and access to water. Why? Because when business solves a problem, it makes a profit -- which lets that solution grow. We seem to live in a post-truth world now, with the use of anecdote over evidence, the disdain of experts that we saw in the referendum, and social media leading to people only paying attention to articles that they agree with. Alex Edmans’s talk will explore the ramifications of acting on impulse before thinking through whether or not information is reliable, and offer tools for us to survive in a post-truth society. Alex Edmans is a Professor of Finance at London Business School, specialising in corporate governance, executive compensation, and corporate social responsibility. He has spoken at the World Economic Forum in Davos, testified in the UK Parliament, written for the Harvard Business Review, and presented to the Bank of England, Federal Reserve, HM Treasury, IMF, SEC and more. Interview: Jean-Pascal Gond

http://www.essec.edu | by Jean-Pascal Gond, HEC Montreal, Canada Download all the prooceedings via iTunes University : http://itunes.apple.com/fr/course/business-in-society-common/id514264868 After presenting his fields of expertise, Jean-Pascal Gond answers the following questions: What is the importance of workshops like this? In what innovation ways does your research look at corporate stakeholder responsibility? What is the purpose of business? How effective are business organizations in their pursuits and how can business education help in the process? These, and many other related questions have long been at the core of debate and controversy between the critics and advocates of capitalism and free enterprise. 51 international researchers and practitioners from various business schools and backgrounds explored these questions during the first international, interdisciplinary workshop organized on this topic. Discover their contributions through various formats (videos, articles, presentations) and form your own opinion... Critiques are grounded in the belief that free enterprise is by nature a selfish endeavour and is incompatible with the common good. While a minority of opponents still believes in the superiority of "collective ownership of the means of production", the majority of critics have realized that there may be no viable alternative to a market economy and call on governments to impose severe restraints and penalties on business to minimize the negative impacts of selfish pursuits for profit. On the other hand, unconditional advocates of free enterprise recognize that the purpose and sole social responsibility of business is to maximize profit and argue that it is precisely by doing so that business organizations create social value...
