The federal government has — in some cases, drastically — revised standards that determine which businesses are small enough to receive Small Business Administration aid. The rule changes affect 70 industries and go into effect July 22, when more than 17,000 firms not eligible for SBA benefits will begin to qualify, the SBA said.

Basic Weight & Height Requirements | Modeling

My name is Trudi Tapscott, and I think if you're interested in modeling, the first thing that you know is that models are tall and skinny. So, the first question is, "How tall and how skinny do I have to be?" And the answer is, depending upon the type of modeling that you're doing, height is important and being skinny, in good shape and healthy are important. No one in the business that is a legitimate agent is going to tell you to starve yourself, but if you photographically, on film, don't look good, then that's something that needs to be talked about. Maybe you need to lose 5 pounds. Maybe you're retaining salt. But, really, it goes by measurement more than weight, because it's a fit issue. So, you have to be able to fit the clothes. So, if you're not in the size that you can fit into the clothes, then the designer can't hire you because there's only one. It's not like you go to the department store and there's all sizes. There's one size and there's one look. They are trying to sell that look to all the buyers all around the world so that they can produce it. So, that's why the fashion show is six months in advance; they need to know what's going to sell, what's of interest to people, what they like. So, that's been created and designed and it's a certain size. Height, the clothes, the length of a model, the proportion of a model is what a designer is looking for. What a casting director is looking for. So, height is important. If you're talking about shows, the reason it's important is because everyone's in a line and there's other people involved. It's not just you. If you can be anywhere from 5"9' to 6"0' feet, that's a pretty big variation, but you're still tall. That's still taller than the average person. At least, in America, that's taller than the average person. So, modeling is not the average. You're not supposed to be average. You're supposed to be something that people look at in sort of a fantasy of what beauty is. So, you have to be thin and you have to be tall. Those are the things that matter in the business. But you also have to be healthy. You could be a tall, thin girl, but there are thin people that look too thin. Some people, their body is naturally thin. If your body is not naturally thin, you can't starve yourself to be that skinny person. It all goes back to what type of model are you. Because if you are someone who's going model athletic clothes, then you don't want to be as skinny as the model who's modeling fashion, because you don't look necessarily athletic. So, I think that there's two things that are not true about models when it comes to weight. And that is that they don't eat and they starve themselves. I think that they limit their intake when it's before a fashion show season. I think during show season they're so busy they don't have a lot time to eat, so they get thinner. But when they're shooting pictures, nobody wants to see someone who you can see their bones when they're shooting lingerie or bathing suits. So, it's about being a healthy, tall, thin, beautiful woman.

Policies Procedures and Standards

04:02
Learn more at https://kirkpatrickprice.com/pci-demystified/ We find that most organizations struggle with the documentation aspect of a PCI assessment. Established best practice states, "If it's not written down, it's not happening." Organizations need documented policies, procedures, and standards to control risks to business assets, but to also have a common understanding and language to create consistency among the culture of your organization. Small organizations often question why they need to document how their organization runs, especially if there are only a few people in the company. We think that’s the perfect example of why your organization, no matter the size, needs documentation; what if something happens? Who would know how to securely operate your organization? You need to have the proper policies, procedures, and standards in place to ensure the ongoing continuity and security of your organization.

ISO 9001 Standard - ISO 9001:2008 Standards

07:06
http://www.iso9001store.com ISO 9001 Standard is suitable for any organization looking to improve the way it is operated and managed, regardless of size or sector. However, the best returns on investment come from those companies that are prepared to implement it throughout their organization rather than at particular sites, departments or divisions. ISO 9000 is the International Organization for Standardization. It is made up of national standards institutes from countries large and small, industrialized and developing, in all regions of the world. ISO 9001 develops voluntary technical standards which add value to all types of business operations. They contribute to making the development, manufacturing and supply of products and services more efficient, safer and cleaner. They make trade between countries easier and fairer. ISO 9001 standards also serve to safeguard consumers and users in general of products and services -- and to make their lives simpler. ISO 9001 Standards develops only those standards which are required by the market. This work is carried out by experts on loan from the industrial, technical and business sectors which have asked for the standards, and which subsequently put them to use. These experts may be joined by others with relevant knowledge, such as representatives of government agencies and testing laboratories. Published under the designation of International Standards, ISO 9001 standards represent an international consensus on the "state of the art" in the technology concerned.

The Business of Beauty is Very Ugly | Carrie Hammer | TEDxSantaBarbara

18:25
Fashion designer Carrie Hammer was shocked to discover the techniques the fashion and beauty industries employ to sell products. She fills us in on the real harm that these do to our psyches and proposes some smart solutions. Carrie Hammer started her career as an advertising sales executive and often heard that she should “dress for the job she wanted not the job she had.” This was tough advice to follow as she found a limited selection of fashionable, professional women’s clothing with a contemporary fit. As a solution, she felt she had no choice but to start a line to cater to the underserved professional woman. CARRIE HAMMER launched in 2012 in New York City to critical acclaim to deliver stylish professional wear to women. Hammer’s passion extends beyond fashion to empowering women inside and outside of the workplace. This was exemplified in her debut fashion show during New York’s Fashion Week in February, 2014 where she featured “Role Models Not Runway Models,” and included the first ever model in a wheelchair on the runway. Hammer and her clothing line have been featured on CNBC, Fox Business News, Forbes, Good Morning America, Elle, Marie Claire, and Cosmopolitan, to name a few. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Recertifications of Size or Status: What Contractors Need to Know

01:01:33
Financial growth and success are important goals for every small business contractor. However, one potential pitfall of that success and continuous growth is eventually exceeding of the size standards attached to your company’s small business set-aside work. Do you know what it means to be "no longer small" under the NAICS codes assigned to the small business set-aside contracts that your company is performing? What happens if your company once qualified to participate in small business development programs such as the 8(a), SDVOSB, HUBZone, or WOSB/EDWOSB programs, but no longer meets the program-specific eligibility requirements? When is your company required to “recertify” its small business size or socioeconomic statuses for set-aside contracts? Join Megan Connor and Katie Flood as they discuss small business and socioeconomic certification and representation issues. This webinar will cover general small business and socioeconomic representation concepts, as well as the often complex and complicated issues that arise when contractors outgrow their size standards. Megan and Katie will also discuss what contractors should do if they are no longer eligible to participate in socioeconomic programs under which they once qualified, but continue to perform under and pursue set-aside work. Topics will include: - Certification basics - Exceptions to the rules - Special issues under Multiple Award Contracts - Triggering events for recertification of small business and socioeconomic status - Effects of recertification PilieroMazza materials appearing on our website (www.pilieromazza.com) and other webpages have been prepared by PilieroMazza to generally inform visitors about our law firm and legal developments that may be of interest to them. SBTW17: Size & Affiliation

01:03:09
On April 4, 2017, two experts from the Small Business Administration (SBA) provided insights about size-and-affiliation rules to more than 600 small business advocates who attended Small Business Training Week (SBTW17) at the Sheraton Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia. SPEAKERS Mr. Same Le Attorney Advisor, SBA Office of General Counsel Ms. Stephanie Lewis Size Specialist, SBA Office of Government Contracting SESSION DESCRIPTION How does the SBA determine if a business qualifies as "small" for a federal contract? A firm is small if the firm and its affiliates fall below the contract-size standard expressed in terms of receipts, employees or another basis. Affiliation can be based on common ownership, management, identity of interest or participation in a joint venture. Special affiliation rules apply to SBA's 8(a) and All Small Mentor-Protege programs. SLIDES Slides from SBTW17 can be downloaded at http://business.defense.gov/Events/SBTW17/. Rep. Curbelo Floor Speech on Small Agriculture Producer Size Standards Improvements Act

03:04
I was proud to cosponsor "The Small Agriculture Producer Size Standards Improvements Act," which recently passed the House. This bill would strike the $750,000 statutory size standard and require the Small Business Association (SBA) to establish size standards for agricultural enterprises through the notice and comment rulemaking process. It would also require those size standards to be periodically reviewed at least every five years. This will ensure that size standards for small farmers and ranchers are up to date so that they are able to compete for federal contracts, have access to SBA guaranteed loans, and are considered when agencies draft new regulations.

Repairing Horse Jump Standards

12:09
Hi again! I have been busy making jumps, and decided to change the size of the bases on a few pair of standards I had build a couple of years ago. You see, I got cheap and tried to save a few dollars by making the feet for my standards 12" long instead of the minimum 16" long that I should have. And making the bases, or the feet 12" is not a good idea. The jump standards gets wobbly the taller your jump is. So I decided to right the wrong I did, and see if I could make the jumps more stable by adding longer pieces of wood to 2 sides of the bases. It worked! So if you are building your own jump standards, be sure to keep your bases, or feet, at least 16" long so you will have a very stable pair of standards. And if you have a set or two like me that are needing some refurbishing, you can make them better too, with a few screws and a 2 x 4. Are you new here? I have a lot of videos for you to watch on my channel, and new videos every week, so be sure to subscribe to my channel so you can know as soon as I have a new video to watch! I will show you how you can make your own horse jumps, tack room furniture, and lots of reviews and other horse related diy ideas and just having fun with your horse. Standard Deviation - Explained and Visualized

03:43
Video transcript: "Have we discovered a new particle in physics? Is a manufacturing process out of control? What percentage of men are taller than Lebron James? How about taller than Yao Ming? All of these questions can be answered using the concept of standard deviation. For any set of data, the mean and standard deviation can be calculated. For example, five people may have the following amounts of money in their wallets: 21, 50, 62, 85, and 90. The mean is $61.60 and the standard deviation is $28.01. How much does the data vary from the average? Standard deviation is a measure of spread, that is, how spread out a set of data is. A low standard deviation tells us that the data is closely clustered around the mean (or average), while a high standard deviation indicates that the data is dispersed over a wider range of values. It is used when the distribution of data is approximately normal, resembling a bell curve. Standard deviation is commonly used to understand whether a specific data point is “standard” and expected or unusual and unexpected. Standard deviation is represented by the lowercase greek letter sigma. A data point’s distance from the mean can be measured by the number of standard deviations that it is above or below the mean. A data point that is beyond a certain number of standard deviations from the mean represents an outcome that is significantly above or below the average. This can be used to determine whether a result is statistically significant or part of expected variation, such as whether a bottle with an extra ounce of soda is to be expected or warrants further investigation into the production line. The 68-95-99.7 rule tells us that about 68% of the data fall within one standard deviation of the mean. About 95% of data fall within two standard deviations of the mean. And about 99.7% of data fall within 3 standard deviations of the mean. The average height of an American adult male is 5’10, with a standard deviation of 3 inches. Using the 68-95-99.7 rule, this means that 68% of American men are 5’10 plus or minus 3 inches, 95% of American men are 5’10 plus or minus 6 inches, and 99.7% of American men are 5’10 plus or minus 9 inches. So, this means only about .3% of American men deviate more than 9 inches from the average, with .15% taller than 6’7 and .15% shorter than 5’1. This reasoning suggests that Lebron James is 1 in 2500 and Yao Ming is 1 in 450 million. In particle physics, scientists have what are called 5-sigma results, results that are five standard deviations above or below the mean. A result that varies this much can signify a discovery as it has only a 1 in 3.5 million chance that it is due to random fluctuation. In summary, standard deviation is a measure of spread. Along with the mean, the standard deviation allows us to determine whether a value is statistically significant or part of expected variation."

Assessing Your Processes using ISO Standards

51:38
Processes are the building blocks of every organization. Yet, many organizations do not have consistent and repeatable processes. Research shows that projects managed using structured processes leveraging “best practices” consistently show higher performance than those that do not. This session focuses on a method from ISO to improve processes and eliminate defects. Assessing process capability demonstrably helps lower risk associated with the processes. Main points covered: • What is a Process Reference Model? • What is process capability and how do I measure it? • How to use a Process Assessment Model to assess processes? Presenter: Peter Davis is the Principal of Peter Davis Associates, a management consulting firm specializing in Governance, Security, and Audit. Prior to founding PDA, Mr. Davis’ private sector experience included stints with two large Canadian banks and a manufacturing company. He was formerly a principal in the Information Systems Audit practice of Ernst & Young. In the public sector, Mr. Davis was Director of Information Systems Audit in the Office of the Provincial Auditor (Ontario), where he had oversight audit responsibilities for all Ontario crown corporations, agencies and boards. Mr. Davis has written or co-written 13 books including “Project Management Process Capability Assessment,” “Lean Six Sigma Secrets for the CIO,” and “Hacking Wireless Networks for Dummies.” Peter currently teaches COBIT 5 Foundation/Implementation/Assessor/Implementing NIST Cyber-security Framework using COBIT 5, ISO 20000 FC/LI/LA ISO 27001 LI/LA, ISO 27032 LM, ISO 27005 RM, and ISO 31000 RM.
