Product Manager - 10 Essential Skills to Master (In 2018)
Product Management is a fast-growing and niche area to develop a career in. Naturally, there are some essential skills that can get you to be the very best of the lot. While the need for Product Managers is increasing by the day - in startups, tech companies and other large companies alike - the supply in India is currently only limited to a few thousands and compares poorly to countries such as the US. As per the Google and Accel Partners SAAS Report, there are roughly 36,000 Product Managers in India and the number is expected to increase to about 68,000 Product Managers by 2020. So, the need is apparent. But what does one have to do to get there? How to become a Product Manager? A common misconception is that Product Managers need to only master certain hard skills such as business understanding, tech and data. However, this would only mean the job is half done. To be a successful Product Manager you must have some soft skills too. These include communication, negotiation and leading without authority among many others. But don't worry about backgrounds, as Product Managers have been known to have diverse work and educational experience prior to making the transition into Product Management. Ravijot Chugh, Co-Founder and Product Head at UpGrad, explains in this 3rd part of the Careers-In-Shorts Series what these key skills are and how one can ace them to get on the road to being a great Product Manager. The Perfect Boss: Dr. Axel Zein at TEDxStuttgart
Axel Zein promotes a new way we manage businesses today: think of business as a sport. In sports, the team is decisive; the team with the best players usually wins. And sports are fun. So what qualifies a manager to be the perfect coach for his team? Who is doing the work in a normal company? It is not the CEO, not the managers but the engineers, the guys on the shop floor and the sales reps. They are the players on the ield. A manager is supposed to be their coach. But we are not educated to be coaches. During our careers we usually encounter a couple of really bad bosses, many mediocre managers and only a few outstanding ones. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

7 Most Important Skills for a Civil Engineer to Succeed (updated) | Civil Engineering

The profession of Civil engineer is considered as one of the well paid and respected as they are major contributors to the society. They must possess a very broad skill set, from cost accounting to geology. Many civil engineers have jobs that require a very hands-on role in construction, while others may have positions more heavily weighted toward supervisory and administrative skills. We can therefore see how important it is for Civil Engineers to possess certain qualities and skills. Here we are providing the 7 most important skills that civil engineers should have in order succeed. 1. Technical Skills A good Civil Engineer should have a level of Mathematics and Physics that allows for the identification and solving of engineering problems. Lets put it this way, if a Structural Engineer wasn't able to accurately work out how much weight is being distributed throughout a bridge, anyone wouldn't dare to be driving anywhere near that bridge. Civil Engineers also need to be skilled in design techniques and working with maps, drawings and models, as well as CAD software. They need to be able to predict any possible future problems and find solutions for them. 2. Project Management When problems arise, it is common for people involved in the project on all levels to look to the engineer for guidance and resolution. It is important that a Civil Engineer is able to step up to the task and manage a diverse team of professionals whilst maintaining the confidence of clients. 3. Leadership Skills Civil engineers carry a great deal of responsibility as they are ultimately in charge of the entire project’s design and implementation. They must be able to lead a diverse team of professionals, including surveyors, construction managers, technicians, contractors, architects, urban planners, transportation engineers and others, as well as maintain the confidence of governmental planning authorities. The effectiveness of the civil engineer’s leadership skills may be a significant determining factor in keeping a project on time and on budget. 4. Communication Skills In Civil Engineering - perhaps more so than other Engineering fields - the ability to communicate effectively is a highly sought after skill. Whether dealing with Management or a client, Engineers need to be able to clearly communicate ideas and give direction leaving no ambiguity. They must also be able to listen and benefit from the ideas of others in the team. 5. Creativity It could be said broadly that the role of Civil Engineers is applying Engineering principles to develop solutions within the built environment. More often than not, this requires a certain level of creativity. Engineers need to be able to innovate and improve on solutions. From finding ways to reduce CO2 emissions or making a trampoline bridge, creativity is key. 6. Visualization The ability to imagine what something will look like when it’s finished and visualize how complex components will come together is one of the most important skills a civil engineer can have. Visualization skills must be flexible and dynamic in order to identify and resolve issues before they can become problems. Because there are so many component parts to large-scale projects, civil engineers must be able to envision how the interrelationships change when one or more individual aspects are changed. 7. Critical Thinking Civil Engineers often face complex problems and need to find efficient solutions for them. They need to be able to assess the pros and cons of all possible solutions, and they need to be decisive in order to choose the best one. Civil Engineers generally require a very broad skill set and these list is in no way exhaustive but these 7 were what we saw to be the most important skills for a Civil Engineer. Account management skills: Creating the conditions for effective presentations
Communicating your ideas effectively is good for your company, your career and your enjoyment of what you do. Chris Bartley, Managing Director, Havas Life Medicom, offers some tips. Recorded 7 March 2018 at a MedComms Networking event in Oxford. Produced by NetworkPharma.tv = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = ABSTRACT: A simple 'hello' can lead to a million things, as the saying goes. It’s so true of the opportunities that can stem from our interactions with others. The way we come across and how effectively we communicate in person makes a big difference to how we are perceived. Getting our presentations right is about so much more than presentation skills. It’s about priming the audience to listen and to really engage with us. Chris’s talk looks at four simple ways to create the best possible conditions for effective presentations: creating a relaxed and engaging tone; making a relevant introduction (most people don’t!); using the audience’s context to get them on side, and not distracting from the message we’re hoping to deliver. You exchange information. You need to have the right responses to the employer’s questions. You need to ask good questions. You need the right background. You need to impress. 1. It’s about their future, not your past. You need to get the interviewers, the most senior interviewers, thinking into the future. If you can't get them to imagine what their life will be like and what their company will look like with you there, you'll never get hired. 2. Leaders are inclusive and inspiring. You need to be the high tide that lifts all the boats. Leaders build more leaders. They don't build more followers. You need to show them you're great at inspiring and inclusive. You're great at building teams. 3. Stay away from one-and-done questions because then you’ll be done. Specifically, I mean asking a great question, then receiving their response, and then moving on to the next question. That's the big mistake! The message you're sending to them is that you are a puddle skipper. You are not somebody who's digging deep to get information and collecting it all. You're not well researched. You’re not digging deep enough to get the information you need to make a good decision. -------------------- ABOUT ANDREW -------------------- Andrew LaCivita is an internationally recognized executive recruiter, award-winning author, trainer, and founder and chief executive officer of milewalk and the milewalk Academy. 08 common Interview question and answers - Job Interview Skills
08 common Interview question and answers - Job Interview Skills 1. "Tell me a little about yourself." You should take this opportunity to show your communication skills by speaking clearly and concisely in an organized manner. Because there is no right or wrong answer for this question, it is important to appear friendly. 2. "What are your strengths?" This is a popular interview question. They want to know what you think of yourself. Although this is a general question, there is a wrong and right answer. The wrong answer is a generic answer saying you are organized and friendly. Although it will not hurt you during the interview, it will certainly not help you either. Answer this question based on the type of job you are applying for. 3. "What are your weaknesses?" For this answer, you should display a weakness that can be seen as a strength. There are many types of answers that will work. Some answers will be good answers for certain jobs, while the same answer will be a bad answer for a different job. Select an answer that will work for the position you are applying for. 4. "Where do you see yourself in five years?" This question primarily depends on where you are in your career. A person with 5 years of experience will have different goals than a person with no work experience. This question is asked to see how serious a candidate is about his or her career. Some people might not know their goals, and some people might have goals of becoming rich and retiring early. Those are incorrect answers for this question. The type of answer you want to give is an ambitious answer that shows you really love your career. A good interviewer will read between the lines and find out if a person is going to be a hard worker or just a mediocre one. Being descriptive and shooting for a big goal is something interviewers want to hear. 5. "What do you know about our company?" A typical job interview question, asked to find out how much company research you have conducted, is "What do you know about this company?" Prepare in advance, and in a word, research, so you can provide relevant and current information about your prospective employer to the interviewer. 6. "Are you good at dealing with change?" Dealing with change is common in the work place. A simple yes will not be sufficient to impress the interviewer. This is another type of question where everyone will have similar answers. Of course everyone is going to claim being excellent dealing with change. You got to communicate that you are really good at dealing with change. 7. "Do you work well under pressure?" In most cases, the best answer to this question is answering yes. Working well under pressure is a good trait to have. However, I think if you answer that you work the same with pressure and without pressure, the interviewer will be more impressed. However, you will need to explain in words why this is better. 8. "How do you make important decisions?" There are many ways to answer this question, and if you have a reasonable method of making decisions, it will probably be sufficient. One answer I thought of included not being afraid of asking your manager. You can follow up by saying even the best needs mentoring, and you always want to improve. So basically, this could work as an answer, but depending on the job, you might have a better shot with an answer like my example.

How to interview for a management position without experience
Interviewing for a management job without the necessary experience can be tricky. But most managers don't know what they are doing anyways, so you have that going for you. The key to interviewing for a management job with experience is that you'll want to show them something that makes you remotely qualified. You need to connect the dots for them and convert your past experiences into showcasing your management skills. Maybe you were a project leader, or maybe you managed small tasks here and there. Maybe you volunteered somewhere and managed something. Even though you did not hold the title of manager does not mean you don't have management experience, you just need to dig for it.
