Do you ever feel like you don’t know where to start? Let's tackle two of the most basic investing types you should know: Stocks and Bonds Let’s start with Stocks. When a company needs money to expand or grow their business, they can sell stock to the public. In exchange for that money, the INVESTORS (the people who buy a stock) now “own” a piece of that company. Investors can make money on stocks by buying them when they have a lower value and selling them when they have more value. Investors can also make money by sharing in a regular payout from the company to its shareholders, something that’s also known as DIVIDENDS. Not all companies pay regular dividends, but when they occur, dividends and changes in share price are both part of total return, which is your total gain or loss on an investment. What about Bonds? When you buy a bond, you are actually loaning money to a company, government, or government agency. The money is typically used for things like construction and other projects. During the life of the bond, an investor gets paid interest at steady, predetermined times. Interest is basically the money you are given by the borrower in return for lending them the money. At the end of the loan’s life, the borrower returns the money you initially lent them. You can trade bonds in the market, just like you can trade a stock. Bonds are considered less risky investments than stocks, but they also typically have lower total returns. So what did we learn? A Stock: A share in the ownership of a company A Bond: An interest-earning loan you make to a company or government. Buy Bonds Over Stocks?

03:16
Let’s talk about stocks and bonds and the different returns we should get on them. The 10 year treasury bond has just moved to a yield of 3%. This means that we get 3% if loan money to the government for 10 years. It’s known as one of the safest investments because the US government can always print more money to repay it’s debts. To get the stock return we divide the earnings of the S & P 500 by it’s price. This is a method that was taught by Ben Graham. So currently stocks are yielding 4.17% through this method. • Stocks = 4.17% • Bonds = 3% If you want to learn about Investing and Personal finance then subscribe here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmHm0w-JJfC2Ll1Of_WObAQ?view_as=subscriber // Books I Recommend… ▸ Investing: https://goo.gl/BRPh3D ▸ Wealth Mindset: https://goo.gl/RcSjcx ▸ Personal Finance: https://goo.gl/yXiH2Y or https://goo.gl/TLE5fV ▸ Personal Development: https://goo.gl/AVzKqt ▸ Entrepreneurship: https://goo.gl/wbWcWM ___ // YouTube Recommended Equipment ▸MY MICROPHONE (VOICE OVER): https://goo.gl/dLYtzr ▸MY MICROPHONE (CLIP ON): https://goo.gl/kfoMVZ ▸ ANIMATION SOFTWARE: VideoScribe ▸ CAMERA (Not needed for animation): https://goo.gl/PoJLGp ▸ TRIPOD (Not needed for animation): https://goo.gl/e2zqmB ▸ LIGHTING (Not needed for animation) : https://goo.gl/JAxCLj ▸ VIDEO EDITING SOFTWARE (Not needed for animation) : https://goo.gl/FSJYkR ▸ THUMBNAIL EDITING SOFTWARE: https://goo.gl/fw5KCg ▸ LAPTOP: https://goo.gl/UuPq6V ▸ DESKTOP: https://goo.gl/7MiVwG ___ // My Social Media ▸ Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/cooperacademy1/ || @cooperacademy1 ▸ Twitter | https://twitter.com/cooperacademy1 || @cooperacademy1 ▸ Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/cooperacademy1/ DISCLAIMER: It's important to note that I am not a financial adviser and you should do your own research when picking stocks to invest in. After a big rally to start the month of March stocks as measured by the S&P 500 are finally for the first time in this bear market bounce reaching better overbought readings. Conversely, bonds are reaching better oversold conditions, which sets us up for a trade to sell/short stocks and buy bonds, strategically.

Warren Buffett - How Anyone can Invest and Become Rich

05:40
Website: https://primedlifestyle.com/ Instagram: Primed Berkshire Hathaway Annual report: http://www.berkshirehathaway.com/letters/2013ltr.pdf Warren Buffett's favorite book -The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2AlojQc Tony Robbins Money Master the Game on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2zyz84n Audible 30 day free trail: https://goo.gl/x64Vb9 Warren Buffett - One of the most successful investor of all times with an estimated net worth of over 80 billion dollars to this date has shared his methods for investing. Having bought his first stock at 11 years of age and having $53,000 dollars to his name at 17, he sure knows a thing or two about this market. And even though he spent a lifetime developing his skills, he’s has shared some very straightforward advice about investing that anyone can take advantage of. Warren Buffett’s first rule is to simply think long term over short term. He might be going overboard with this concept and he is truly embracing it around his entire life. He still lives in the same house he bought in 1958 and is also working at the very same desk since 50 years back and doesn’t use a computer but traditional pen and paper. He’s been quoted saying he doesn’t throw anything away until he’s had it for at least 20-25 years. So thinking long term is natural for him and the ability to resist selling has proved to be very successful for him. So having that said the reason why he’s holding on to what he buys is because he does his homework and does so very well. He’s stated many times that he spends 80 % of his day reading and catching up with the latest news and what companies to invest in. He thinks about life and investing as learning as much as he can and reads between 600-1,000 pages every single day. However not many people have the time or money to read for 8 hours a day and invest a few billions in the biggest companies like Warren Buffet, and it’s not a strategy that anyone can apply and find success with. And I wanted to make a video explaining how absolutely anyone can invest and become rich without taking time to read and grasp what to invest in which is why I’m super excited to share this with you. So when reading the Berkshire Hathaway Annual report of 2013, one of the most interesting paragraphs I found was on page 20 where he gave a very simple and straightforward advice about investing. He says “My money is where my mouth is: What I advise here is essentially identical to certain instructions I’ve laid out in my will. So in his will he’s demanded that future of his family's money money should be invested such as this: Put 10% of the cash in short-term government bonds and 90% in a very low-cost S&P 500 index fund.” And he finishes it off by stating “I believe the trust’s long-term results from this policy will be superior to those attained by most investors” I told you it was straight forward. Don’t try to outplay the market but instead play with it. No man or machine can predict the ups and downs of the market, well except for Warren Buffett, so it would be foolish to try to beat it when you can simply join it. The very same formula was also mentioned in Tony Robbins book money master the game and index funds really seems to be the future of investments because the market will always rise in long term, and that’s essentially what you invest in - the market. The S&P 500 contains all the 500 largest companies that trade on NYSE and Nasdaq. Instead of picking stocks individually, you can now own a piece of all of the biggest companies such as Apple, Microsoft and Google. And investing in an index fund is very secure since a single company might go bankrupt, however the market will not. And you don’t have to stick to only the U.S market but could invest in the european and asian markets that’s also doing very well and you can even invest in global index funds to own a part of the biggest companies in the world. And for the other 10 %, the short-term government bonds is a very low risk low cost alternative that is also offered by vanguard amongst others. Short-term bonds are very attractive to investors because of they’re very stable and consistently rising, however the return tends to be smaller. And I’ll finish it off through Warren Buffett’s words: “The goal of the non-professional should not be to pick winners but should rather be to own a cross-section of businesses that in aggregate are bound to do well.” Music: Life of Riley by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1400054 Artist: http://incompetech.com/

Is It a Bad Idea to Buy Bonds When Interest Rates Are Going Up?

06:12
http://IncredibleRetirement.com 800-393-1017 Here’s something I bet you didn't know. The U.S. stock market, the size of the U.S. stock market is about $30 trillion. If you added up the value of all publicly traded stocks in the U.S., the market value of all those companies would come up to around $30 trillion, but what about bonds? Bonds are hardly ever mentioned or talked about in the financial media, but I bet you might be surprised to discover that the U.S. bond market is actually much bigger than the stock market. The U.S. bond market is estimated to be $40 trillion or more. That's right, the bond market is actually larger than the stock market and yet the financial media has almost all their attention and therefore our attention on the stock market. So what about bonds? Should you be buying bonds when interest rates are going up? You may have heard that when interest rates go up, bond values go down, which is true. Think of a seesaw or a teeter totter, the end that goes up is interest rates and the end that goes down is the underlying value of the bond. Bonds by the way are nothing more than a loan to a company or government or government agency. Typically bonds pay their interest twice a year, every six months, and when the loan comes due, they have a maturity date which could range anywhere from 90 days to 30 years, when you get your money back. If you look at long term returns of investments, let's say 15 year timeframe or longer, then it's no secret stocks have outperformed bonds by a large, large margin; so if stocks do better than bonds over the long term why not just have all of your money in stocks? Well the problem is while stocks tend to deliver nice, long term returns, but the short term oh, that could be a whole other story. Stocks on the short term can be extremely volatile. Just look what happened in the financial crisis of 2008. The S&P 500, the 500 largest publically traded companies in America, lost about 38% in value. So $100,000 in the S&P 500 at the end of 2008 was now worth $62,000. Ouch! That's a lot of short term volatility which tends to make you and I uncomfortable, to say the least. So how do we dampen or minimize that volatility? Imagine you have a sailboat and you have entered it into a race. One way to make your sailboat go faster is to make it lighter. But the lighter the sailboat, the more likely it is to capsize with a gust of wind. To prevent that you add weight or ballast to the sailboat. That slows the speed of the boat down but it reduces the odds of the boat capsizing and sinking. This is how you should think of bonds in your overall investment strategy. They are going to slow down the overall growth of your investment accounts but they are there to keep you from capsizing, to keep you from sinking during short-term periods of market volatility. So the answer to the question should you buy bonds, even when interest rates are going up, as a long term investor, the answer is a qualified yes, and here's what I mean by that. If you buy individual bonds and hold the bond until it matures or is called away early by the issuer then you'll receive the interest and get all your money back when the bond matures. The value of the bond can and will fluctuate while you own it, but it doesn't affect you if you hold it to maturity because then you get all your money back. This is why it's important to own individual bonds, especially in a rising interest rate environment, you don't lose money if you hold the bond until maturity. Why not just use a bond mutual fund? The problem with a bond mutual fund is it doesn't have a maturity date. People are constantly adding or withholding money from the mutual fund itself and typically at the wrong time. In a rising interest rate market, a lot of people in bond mutual funds take some or all of their money out of the mutual fund which forces the mutual fund manager to sell bonds even if they didn't want to. They have to generate the money to pay back the investors and that could drive the value or the price of bonds down even further. Ideally, you want to use individual bonds so you know for sure you get your money back when the bond matures. If you have a small account, and I would say a small account would be $200,000 or less, then you may not have enough money to properly diversify into individual bonds and you may have to still use bond mutual funds and if that's the case in a rising interest rate market you want to focus on short term bond funds or floating rate bond funds. Buying individual bonds as part of your investment strategy will help you move one step closer to experiencing your version of an incredible retirement doing what you want, when you want.

What is short selling? Join our March Trading Contest for your chance at over $8000 in prizes: https://app.wallstreetsurvivor.com/registerto/MarchMarketMoversReport?utm_source=MarketMoversReport&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=MarchContest Most people think of investing as buying a stock (or other asset) and making money when its price goes up - but it’s also possible to make a profit when a stock price goes down. This process is called short selling (or shorting). Short selling isn’t all peaches and cream. There are opportunities for high returns, but as usual, these come with high risks. The big risk here is that there is no limit to your losses. When you buy a stock, you can only lose the amount that you invested. But when you short, your losses are infinite because there is theoretically no end to how high a stock’s price can rise. Short selling isn’t for everyone. It requires a lot of time and research, and a desire for high risks and high returns. Short selling is primarily used for speculator looking to make a profit when the market goes down or investing looking to hedge their position. How to Buy Bonds and Bond ETFs with Fidelity

14:35
In this video i show you how to buy bonds through fidelity's trading platform. If you are a beginner you may want to look into bond etfs because there are easier to buy. Typically if you want to buy a bond, you have to purchase a minimum amount. There are all kinds of different bonds such U.S. treasury bonds, corporate bonds, municipal bonds. Also make sure to check the coupon rate versus the yield. If the coupon rate is higher than the yield, the bond will be sold at a premium. Vice versa, if the coupon rate is lower than the yield, the bond will sell at a discount.

2019 Market Prediction: Buy Bonds and Chill

07:38
n 2018 The Fed began reducing ~30B/month of liquidity to global markets and every asset in the world entered into a bear market. Going into 2019 things are set to get much worse because now two central banks are selling at the same time, the ECB and The Fed and they’ve only sold 360B out of potentially 2 trillion dollars worth of bonds so far. Consider the following “smorgage borge” of risks over hanging equities markets: Central banks are removing 30B+/month of liquidity from markets in 2019 US/China Trade War Has Made ZERO Progress Since 3-Day Meeting Mueller investigation still underway with daily headlines Record breaking trillion dollar government spending, further expanding debt The longest US government shutdown in history, now at 24 days. Official announcement in China of slowing growth expectations Brexit deal is in complete chaos, freezing European economies Yellow vest movement planning bank run and growing in size There’s a good chance the equity markets puke their brains again at anytime in 2019 and my expectation for the safest play right now is to hold a large TLT position. Right now my portfolio has a 80% TLT position, a 10% GLD position a 5% cryptocurrency position and a 1% long QQQ position with 4% in cash. I’m also writing weekly covered calls against my TLT shares for weekly income. Unless we start seeing major progress in the US/China talks I expect to be holding this TLT position for the next several months before taking profits and going into a heavier GOLD position. In the long run Portfolio Builder’s Income Platform would greatly prefer to own equities as the yield on writing covered calls is often 200-300% greater than against the TLT. But until The Fed is back on our side and US/China aren’t in the midst of a trade war, I’ll take the safe weekly paycheck over the risky one and wait to see what happens. As soon as the VIX index get’s a little lower look out for our next new trade alert, which will be stock crash insurance shorting the QQQ (American Tech Stock ETF). The QQQ’s largest position is in Apple one of the companies most hurt by US/China trade war conflicts. This is the plan until something dramatically changes, look for a new update tomorrow!

How bonds work

03:36
Investing can sometimes seem like either like a gamble or very dull. At the "gambling" end of the spectrum are shares, with the possibility of swift ups in price and swift drops in price. At the other end is cash in the bank -- a predictable investment with few changes day-to-day or month-on-month. Investors looking for a middle ground and looking to diversify do have other options. They can consider bonds. Bonds are something of a mystery to many people -- perhaps because they are not often talked about. But bonds can play an important role in managing investments. They can be a half way house between the risk of shares and property and the safety of cash. How do bonds work? At the most basic level, a bond is a loan. Or, more technically, it is a large loan that has been split into packages and sold to investors. Bond holders typically make money by receiving regular payments of interest (known as coupons) during the life of the loan. When the loan ends, their original investment is returned. Bonds may have lives of just a year or two or for 10, 20 or even 30 years. You can buy individual bonds or opt for units in a bond fund run by an asset manager. Like shares, bonds or bond funds can usually be sold at any time and the value of your investment may rise or fall. But bond prices usually move less than shares. That is why they are considered safer than shares but they are more risky than a bank deposit. The original investment and the coupon payments are secure for bonds, while with shares, there is no guarantee of receiving dividend payments -- or your original investment. Looking a bit more closely, there are two main types of bonds -- corporate bonds and government bonds. Corporate bonds are loans made by companies. Government bonds are loans made by governments. Corporate bonds are more risky because the company issuing the bond may go bankrupt. In bankruptcy, though, bond holders are paid before shareholders. Governments rarely go bankrupt so government bonds are safer than corporate bonds. And the lower interest rate on government bonds reflects this. Getting more technical, different types of bonds are designed to work in different financial conditions. In particular, index-linked bonds pay coupons and the original investment in a way that compensates for inflation. The can be attractive to investors who want to ensure the value of their investment does not fall if prices rise. Bonds don't have to be part of your investment portfolio. Some people are happy to invest exclusively in shares and property but if you want to spread your investment risk, if you want to diversify, remember that there is always a half way house in bonds.

5 Mistakes Investors Make with ETFs | Fidelity

04:43
In this video, learn about the five biggest mistakes that investors make when buying ETFs, or exchange-traded funds. To learn the basics about ETFs, visit https://www.fidelity.com/learning-center/investment-products/etf/overview. To get started investing with ETFs, visit https://www.fidelity.com/etfs/overview To see more videos from Fidelity Investments, subscribe to: https://www.youtube.com/fidelityinvestments Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/fidelityinvestments Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/fidelity Google+: https://plus.google.com/+fidelity LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/fidelity-investments --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let’s talk about the five biggest mistakes investors can make when buying exchange-traded funds. ETFs can be good tools for investors - when used appropriately. But with any investment, there are always things to watch out for. Number 1: Buying the Hot New Thing More than 100 new ETF products launch each year, many of them chasing the latest hot trend. Cloud computing, driverless cars, 3-D printing … you name it, there’s an ETF for that. Buying into the latest hot theme might make you big returns, but take care: These product launches may come after there has been a run up in the market. Buying at the top can be painful on the way down. Number 2: Buying Something You Don’t Understand The only thing worse than chasing the hottest trend is buying something you don’t understand. ETFs have taken institutional strategies and made them push-button-easy for everyday investors to access. Want access to commodity futures? There’s an ETF for that. 300% leverage? 200% short? Interest-rate carry plays? Yes to all. But just because you can buy something easily doesn’t mean you should. All of these funds may be good tools, but only if you know how to use them correctly. Number 3: Thinking All ETFs Are Created Equal Consider China. At the start of 2014, there were more than a dozen broad-based China ETFs. For example, had you chosen PGJ, the PowerShares Golden Dragon China ETF, at the start of the year, you would have lost more than 7% of your money. Had you instead chosen ASHR, the Deutsche Xtrackers Harvest CSI 300 China A-Shares ETF, you would have earned a 51% return. Both are “China ETFs.” Both can provide big, diversified portfolios. But ASHR has significant exposure to Chinese Ashares—largely consumer-focused stocks listed and traded on the domestic Chinese market— which performed spectacularly well in 2014. Don’t assume all ETFs are created equal. Just because two ETFs cover the same market doesn’t mean they provide the same exposure or returns. There’s no guarantee which fund will perform better in the future. But if you wanted to invest last year in the growth of the Chinese consumer and the domestic investor base there, a little bit of research would have gone a long way. Number 4: Trading…Just Because You Can Trading is central to ETFs. It’s right there in the name. But just because you can trade an ETF intraday doesn’t mean you should. Emotions are often an investor’s worst enemy. You zig when you should zag; you sell at the bottom and buy at the top. We all do sometimes. The trouble is ETFs make that even easier than traditional mutual funds. ETFs’ intraday liquidity can be great when you need to get into or out of the market quickly. But those situations are rare. Number 5: Only Using Market Orders When you do invest, consider using a limit order versus a market order. Market orders are instructions to buy or sell securities at the best possible price right now. That can work well for the most liquid ETFs, but as you move beyond the top dozen ETFs, you can find yourself getting trades executed at prices you don’t really want. Using a limit order means you agree to buy an ETF at a certain price or below, and sell it at a certain price or above. A limit order puts the control back in your hands and can help you set the price on your terms. Learn from these common mistakes to help avoid making them yourself. Vanguard Founder Jack Bogle on Mutual Funds, Common Sense Investing and the Stock Market

The Investment Gospel According to Jack Bogle: “Don’t look for the needle in a haystack. Just buy the haystack.” Does that mean buy, sell or hold — stocks, bonds or gold? Watch this discussion with John C. Bogle, who founded The Vanguard Group in 1974, served as its chairman and CEO until 1996 and senior chairman until 2000. Fortune magazine named him one of the investment industry’s four “Giants of the 20th Century”. TIME magazine cited him as one of the world’s 100 most powerful and influential people. Known for his straight talk on Common Sense Investing, and for having invented the Index Mutual Fund, Jack Bogle built Vanguard to be the world’s largest mutual fund organization, representing 170 funds with current assets totaling more than $2 trillion. He has written 10 books, received honorary degrees from 14 universities, served on many important commissions and boards, received countless honors, and to tally changed the face of investing in the world
