SOUNDBITE: (English) Oleg Zamulin, Professor of New School of Economics: "That process (the gradual devaluation of the ruble) has hurt the Russian economy, because the banks which expect further devaluation stop giving out loans to the economy and instead convert all of their money into dollars and expect these dollars to become more valuable in ruble terms, so until this process is over, until the devaluation is finished the banks won't go back to their natural business of giving out loans." 21. Wide of queue at bank 22. Various of people in line STORYLINE: Traders and shoppers at Moscow's Dorogomilovo market are feeling the pinch of the financial crisis. With Russia's rouble falling to a new low against the US dollar and euro, trade at the market was slow in on Friday morning. Both imported goods and local produce are getting expensive. The ruble dropped 0.4 roubles against the US dollar, to 32.6 - its lowest in the history of MICEX trade. For the first time ever, the ruble fell to 43 against the euro as the Central Bank continued a policy of controlled devaluation. The ruble has been badly bruised by declining energy prices and growing economic difficulties. It has shed more than 27 percent of its value against the US dollar since its high of 23.4 in early August. Resentment is growing on the streets of Moscow as the reality of the economic crisis hits the average Russian, some of whom are still bitter about the last crisis in the 90's. Eager to avoid losing public support, Russia's government has spent tens of (m) millions of US dollars to slow the fall of the ruble, which has ordinary Russians worried after years of economic expansion. Russia's international reserves dropped 11 percent this year, to 427 (b) billion US dollars, and down 29 (b) billion US dollars in December, the Central Bank said earlier this week. Analysts say the ruble is hurt by expectations that the price of oil - which fuels the Russian economy - will continue to fall. Until then, says Oleg Zamulin from the New School of Economics, banks will refrain from giving out loans. The Central Bank apparently wants to gradually let the ruble fall to a low beneath which it will not drop under any circumstances, economists said. Observers expect the string of near-daily devaluations to stop soon, probably within a month but possibly much You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/youtube/15f7f3e862a02c9101356d8cb8c9df47 Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork

Russian Hackers Affect World Currency Rate with Virus

04:26
http://fortune.com/2016/02/08/russian-hackers-currency-rate/ How Russian Hackers Spiked the Currency Exchange Rate It took just minutes, and a whole lot of money. Russian hackers found a way to dramatically alter a currency exchange rate—in just 14 minutes. Launching a virus known as Corkow Trojan against Russia-based Energobank, a group of Russian hackers altered the value of the ruble against the dollar, Bloomberg is reporting, citing an interview with Group-IB, the company that investigated the attack. The virus, which hit Energobank in Feb. 2015, allowed the hackers to buy more than $500 million “at non-market rates,” according to the report. The move was enough for the ruble’s exchange rate to jump from 55 to 66 rubles per dollar before it settled back down. Oddly, the hackers are not believed to have profited from the attack, ostensibly because they did not sell any of the currency as rates fluctuated. But Group-IB told Bloomberg that it may have been a proof-of-concept to prepare for another hack. The attack was discovered by Russia’s central bank and the Moscow Exchange after analyzing the day’s currency trading. While the Moscow Exchange would only confirm that it wasn’t hacked, the central bank claims that it couldn’t find any evidence of market manipulation, according to Bloomberg. Instead, the central bank believes that the massive fluctuation was due to mistaken trades. Whatever the case, Group-IB is convinced that the hack was enough to affect the ruble-dollar exchange rate. Get Data Sheet, Fortune’s technology newsletter. Indeed, the Group-IB, which investigates high-profile cybercrimes and cyber-theft, told Bloomberg that the Corkow Trojan is one of the more sophisticated tools hackers can use, and may even have the ability to attack machines that aren’t even connected to the Internet. In order to do so, the Trojan realizes that it’s on a local company network, and by worming its way through internal connections between those machines, can infect them through that connectivity. This allows the attacker to eventually gain access to the offline computers. This isn’t the first time Russia-based hackers have been charged with malicious attacks. In December, for instance, Ukraine accused Russia of hacking into its power companies and ultimately taking down a power grid, a claim that Russia denies. Russian hackers were also cited for allegedly hacking the White House and State Department in 2014, giving them access to the President’s schedule, unclassified e-mails, and other data. For more, read: Hackers Just Attacked 20 Million Alibaba Users’ Accounts In 2014, Bloomberg Businessweek reported that Russian hackers managed to plant a “digital bomb” in the NASDAQ computer systems in 2010 that could have wreaked havoc on trading. While the “bomb” never went off, it sent a loud and clear message that sophisticated hackers can, and do, target critical infrastructure with ease. While Group-IB says that the Energobank attack was performed by Russia-based hackers, it’s unknown whether it was the government snooping to see how it could affect exchange rates or independent hackers trying out their skills. And since most hackers at that level are experts, they often hide their tracks well enough to never be discovered. Of course, if the hacks did originate from within the Russian government, it wouldn’t come as a surprise. China has admitted to having cyber warriors, and the U.S. may have been behind an attack that took down North Korea’s Internet access in 2014, after the U.S. linked a hack on Sony’s SNE -2.44% network to the country. The U.S. and Israel also reportedly worked together to use a worm that ultimately targeted Iran’s nuclear program. Still, it’s hard to pinpoint in many cases where the attacks originate. Looking ahead, it’s possible that this won’t be the last time we hear of the Corkow Trojan. In a 2014 blog post, experts at security firm ESET said that Corkow has been roaming the Internet since 2011, seeking out banks and cash with no sign of slowing down. “Several features, like enumeration of smart cards, targeting of dedicated banking applications mostly used by corporate customers, and looking for user activity regarding online banking sites and applications, electronic trading platform sites and applications and so forth, all suggest that the attackers are focusing their sights on financial professionals and enterprises, whose bank accounts usually hold a higher balance than those of most individuals,” the experts wrote at the time. Ruble falls against greenback and euro

01:50
On Friday, the ruble’s exchange rate is declining against the US dollar and the euro on the back of crude prices falling to 46 dollars a barrel. The tumble in the Russian currency to two-week lows against the greenback is also linked to the Kremlin’s discontent over the ruble’s strength in the summer period. At 7:50 GMT, the dollar-ruble pair was trading at 64.7 levels. Against the single European currency, the ruble was trading above 71.3 levels. According to analysts, the ruble’s fall could be slowed down by higher sell-offs among exporters paying taxes and dividends. On Friday, crude futures keep on declining after yesterday’s losing session. The data released in the US on Thursday indicated an ongoing oil glut in the market. Trading sentiment, which previously favored the ruble’s highs in July, has changed. During early trading, the Brent crude price dropped to 46.07 dollars a barrel. The Brent price is expected to sink by 3 percent over the current week. Oil quotes are supported by the US dollar’s weakness against the major currency basket. This makes dollar-denominated crude prices attractive for holders of other currencies. External factors are weighing down on the Russian financial market. Global central banks do not hurry to reconsider their monetary stance, disappointing investors. https://www.instaforex.com

EURO - I'm Be Cool Than a Dollar - MEMES MIX !!! Euro VS Dollar

02:23
FUN TV represent EURO - I'm Be Cool Than a Dollar - MEMES MIX !!! Euro VS Dollar The euro ( code: EUR) is the official currency of the eurozone, which consists of 19 of the 28 member states of the European Union: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain. The currency is also officially used by the institutions of the European Union and four other European countries, as well as unilaterally by two others, and is consequently used daily by some 337 million Europeans as of 2015.Outside of Europe, a number of overseas territories of EU members also use the euro as their currency. Additionally, 210 million people worldwide as of 2013 use currencies pegged to the euro. The euro is the second largest reserve currency as well as the second most traded currency in the world after the United States dollar. As of January 2017, with more than €1,109,000,000,000 in circulation, the euro has one of the highest combined values of banknotes and coins in circulation in the world, having surpassed the U.S. dollar. The name euro was officially adopted on 16 December 1995 in Madrid. The euro was introduced to world financial markets as an accounting currency on 1 January 1999, replacing the former European Currency Unit (ECU) at a ratio of 1:1 (US$1.1743). Physical euro coins and banknotes entered into circulation on 1 January 2002, making it the day-to-day operating currency of its original members, and by May 2002 had completely replaced the former currencies. While the euro dropped subsequently to US$0.8252 within two years (26 October 2000), it has traded above the U.S. dollar since the end of 2002, peaking at US$1.6038 on 18 July 2008. Since late 2009, the euro has been immersed in the European sovereign-debt crisis which has led to the creation of the European Financial Stability Facility as well as other reforms aimed at stabilising the currency. In July 2012, the euro fell below US$1.21 for the first time in two years, following concerns raised over Greek debt and Spain's troubled banking sector. But this applies only to those who have savings." 20. Cutaway of cameras STORYLINE: The euro made its debut in Moscow on Thursday, but only a few banks have so far been authorised to exchange rubles for Europe's new currency. Not that many Russians appear keen. Most bank customers were exchanging dollars, in which they keep cash savings, for rubles. But public interest - or need - for the euro is expected to grow as people start planning for trips to Europe. The 12 countries that have switched to the new currency are Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain. National currencies will circulate side by side with the euro for up to two months to help ease the transition, but European Central Bank officials are hoping that most people will use only euros after the first two weeks. Denmark, Sweden and the United Kingdom are the only European Union members to keep their own currencies. Pedestrians 15. Wide of street STORYLINE: The Russian ruble slid to a record low against the US dollar on Wednesday under pressure from the low oil price. The ruble traded above 80.6 to the US dollar in Moscow on Wednesday, down by more than two percent. That beat the mark of 80.1 set when the currency crashed in value in December 2014 before stabilising. Russia's economy and government revenues are suffering due to the country's dependence on oil, which has traded at 12-year lows in recent weeks because of a supply glut and the return of Iran to world markets. The ruble had come close to 80 on Monday but recovered ground on Tuesday after Chinese growth data met expectations. The Internatonal Monetary Fund predicted on Tuesday that Russia's economy would contract by one percent in 2016 after a fall of 3.7 percent last year, before returning to one percent growth next year. =========================================================== Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: [email protected] (ii) they should check with the applicable collecting society in their Territory regarding the clearance of any sound recording or performance included within the AP Television News service (iii) they have editorial responsibility for the use of all and any content included within the AP Television News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory. European currencies fall while USD trading at highs (04.09.2018)

01:58
The US dollar was in high demand on Tuesday while the European assets returned to recent lows, trading with bearish bias. The euro-dollar pair approached the level of 1.1550 after hovering above the psychological level of 1.16 for a rather long time. The single European currency and other trading assets still lack momentum against the stronger greenback. Macroeconomic reports fail to provide support to the euro. The British pound is also trading lower. The GBP/USD pair touched the 2-week low at 1.2820. The economic data from the UK discouraged GPB buyers. The Markit report showed that the construction activity in the country rose at a slower pace. The PMI reading declined to 52.9 points in August from the previous 14-month high of 55.8 points. Experts predicted a decrease to be not so sharp. However, the Parliamentary Hearing on the inflation report prompted some investors to keep their buy deals on GBP. The report showed that the inflation may justify an interest rate hike in future. However, uncertainty over Brexit persists. BOE Governor Mark Carney said that if the sides strike a deal, the pound sterling will creep up, and it will lead to the inflation deceleration. Meanwhile, the US dollar index continues moving with bullish bias, approaching the level of 95.60. Market participants increased the volume of buy deals on USD ahead of the ISM manufacturing index publication and amid expectation of a new round of US-Canada talks. https://www.instaforex.com FX Analytics - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_analytics Forex Calendar - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_calendar Forex TV from InstaForex - https://www.instaforex.com/instaforex_tv Forex charts - https://www.instaforex.com/charts Instant account opening - https://www.instaforex.com/fast_open_live_account Forex Trading Contests - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_contests List of official InstaForex blogs: https://www.facebook.com/instaforex https://www.instagram.com/instaforex/ https://twitter.com/InstaForex #eurusd #gbpusd #usdx

डॉलर से मुकाबले के लिए साथ रुपया-रूबल / Russia India considering the use of rupee-rubles

02:13
Russian President Vladimir Putin is on a tour of India Focus on his visit this time is on the point that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Russians in their midst should be forwarded the understanding made during the informal meeting held in the Sochi Society of Russia. But both the countries can try to find ways to reduce the dependence on the dollar and make any arrangement for the rupee-ruble (business currency) in Russia-currency etc. Significantly, the Indian government is disturbed by the continuous decline in the price of the rupee against the dollar. Therefore, instead of using dollars, the two countries are considering the use of rupee-rubles or any other such currency which has no US effect. Although Russia has been insisting on it for quite a while, but India has been reluctant to take it due to the fall in ruble in the past years. we has received information that the governments and businessmen of both the countries are talking about a system on the use of rupees and rubles in payment and transactions so that cooperation in economic, trade and defense sectors in both countries Continue in uninterrupted manner. Indian representative of Gasprom Bank of Russia, Mitrekkin told INDIA TODAY-Aajtak that the banking community has been demanding such a system for the last two-three years. He said that talking only on this will not work and will have to take some concrete steps. Mityekin said, 'I am quite sure that this system can be fully effective. The issue is that everyone is accustomed to working in dollars. There are structures for this, there are bank accounts and processes too. You will have to do all this in rupee-ruble, for which time and money will be spent. Prime Minister Modi and Russia's President Putin can sign up to nearly 20 agreements in defense ranges from nuclear energy, space and economy. visit - WWW.TTNNEWS.IN please subscribe for more latest updates.. Ukraine Looming Bankruptcy and Russian Ruble Plunging

04:32
Ukraine Looming Bankruptcy and Russian Ruble Plunging MOSCOW, March 3 (Reuters) - Russian stocks and bonds fell sharply and the central bank hiked interest rates and burned through $10 billion of its reserves on Monday to prop up the rouble as markets took fright at the escalating tensions with neighboring Ukraine. Investors were ditching all Russian assets alike - the rouble, stocks and bonds. The Ukrainian hryvnia has firmed since curbs were imposed on deposit withdrawals last week, but Ukrainian eurobonds fell sharply. Russia's central bank unexpectedly raised its key lending rate - the one-week repurchasing agreement - to 7 percent from 5.5 percent, in an attempt to stem capital flight. The central bank did not mention Ukraine in its statement, but said the decision to raise rates was aimed at preventing "risks to inflation and financial stability associated with the recently increased level of volatility in the financial markets". Traders estimated that the central bank spent $10 billion, or 2 percent, of its gold and foreign exchange reserves keeping the rouble from spiraling down too fast. "It goes without saying that the extent to which (central bank moves are) successful will depend largely on political rather than economic developments," Neil Shearing, chief emerging markets economist at Capital Economics, said. The rouble was down 2 percent to 36.49 against the dollar and it was also down 1.5 percent to 50.30 against the euro, trading at all-time lows. The rouble-denominated MICEX index of Russian shares tumbled 10.3 percent to 1,295.4 points and the dollar-denominated RTS collapsed 11.8 percent to 1,118.2 points. "There's a sell-off of everything right now," said Artem Argetkin, a trader at BCS in Moscow, said. Deputy Economy Minister Andrei Klepach told Reuters on Monday that he expects "hysteria" on the markets to subside, but it was uncertain when that would happen. "What lies ahead of us is a period of more confrontation and difficulties. For us, that will mean more complicated relations with the European Union, the (United) States, with all the resulting consequences." Ukraine called up military reserves on Sunday and Washington threatened to isolate Russia economically after President Vladimir Putin declared he had the right to invade his neighbour in Moscow's biggest confrontation with the West since the Cold War. The West has been talking about sanctions, but some investors and economists reckon that such things as limiting trade with Russia, are still a far way off. Europe remains hugely depend on Russia's energy, importing a third of its gas from Russia. And while the trade between the United States and Russia is limited, some U.S. companies, such as ExxonMobil and Boeing, have a huge presence of in Russia. "Is Russia going to be cut off from the world? That is very unlikely given what Russia provides to the world, which are oil, gas, raw materials," Alexis Rodzianko, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia, said. "Sanctions are less than absolutely likely because sanctions hurt both sides maybe even the side applying the sanctions more than the side being sanctioned." Still, market players, fearing broader consequences, were selling stocks, including major blue chips. Gazprom lost more than 10 percent, while shares in state banks Sberbank and VTB both fell 13 percent. "The Russian market has always been dependent on foreign investors," said Andrei Kuznetsov, strategist at Sberbank CIB in Moscow. He estimates about 70 percent of Russian freely traded shares is controlled by foreigners and a big portion of foreigners - about 40 percent - is from the United States. Konstantin Gulyaev, chief market analyst at Capital investment house in Moscow, said Monday's market behaviour was pure panic. "The most important for our market is that the 'Ukraine factor' does not acquire some global factor, as it was in 2008 when after the military conflict in Georgia, was the crash of the Lehman Brothers," Gulyaev said. The impact of the central bank's rate rise on the rouble currency, which had lost nearly 8 percent against the dollar already before Putin's declaration, remains doubtful. Traders said the central bank has been offering $1 billion to prop up the rouble every time the currency falls two-three kopecks.

Ruble hits new highs against US dollar (24.04.2017)

02:29
Traders' risk appetite is gradually recovering. Today, investors focused their attention on the Russian ruble. The US dollar/ruble currency pair reached a fresh low of 55.81. Analysts expect the pair to fall even further amid the following factors. First of all, the election in France. Centrist Emmanuel Macron became the leader of the first round of the presidential race. This news relieved the tension over possible France's withdrawal from the EU. The second reason for the ruble's growth is the upcoming meeting of the Bank of Russia on the course of the monetary policy. Elvira Nabiullina, the head of the Russian Central Bank, stated that the regulator is ready to lower the key rate by 25-50 basis points. According to her, inflation is gradually slowing down, which indicates the need to ease the monetary policy in the nearest future. Another reason for the growth of the ruble is the peak of the tax period, which falls within the 25th and 28th of April. Meanwhile, oil prices are also growing. Today Brent crude is trading at $52.43 per barrel. It is likely that the OPEC deal will be extended as all oil producers stand for further oil production cuts aimed at easing of the global oil supply glut. However, the growth of oil prices is hindered by the increase in oil production in the United States. Despite this, WTI is trading at $50.08 per barrel. The Baker Hughes North American rig count data released on Friday showed an increase in active operating oil and gas rigs, which indicates the growth in the US inventories. Currency strategists note that this week the ruble is stronger than ever. Even a fall in oil prices cannot suppress growth of the ruble against the US dollar. https://www.instaforex.com

Russian ruble extends its gains

02:12
Today the ruble continues to trend upwards against the greenback. The Russian currency took the leading position among currencies of other developing nations. A. Davydov comments: For the last year the ruble posted great result, having gained a status of nearly the best currency, as it appreciated by almost 20 percent. A high yield of public debt securities, gradual improvement of economic conditions in Russia, and recovery in the commodity market contributed to a rise of the ruble exchange rate. Next year, bullish trend is likely to continue. However, the pace of growth will probably slow down as the Federal Reserve plans to increase its key rate significantly, whereas the Bank of Russia is going to lower its interest rate. We expect to see a range of 55-57 rubles per a dollar by the end of the next year. End of comments Oil market participants remain optimistic: they are looking forward to when the 1st of January comes not just to celebrate New Year, but to see the long-awaited output cut by the OPEC countries. After the oil-exporting countries had stricken a deal with non-OPEC states to curb production, oil prices skyrocketed to multi-year highs. However, the commodity corrected ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays, but still it holds the recent gains. Thus, the Brent crude oil is trading at the level of 55.13 dollars per barrel, while WTI costs 53.16 dollars per barrel. On Friday markets absorbed the Baker Hughes report on the US rig count which posted an increase of drilling activity. However, traders didn’t pay much attention to this news. Market participants shifted their focus to the US crude inventories report which will help them understand whether the oversupply problem can be solved soon. https://www.instaforex.com
