School Lunches You've Probably Never Heard About

08:14
Here’s what school lunches around the world look like. Meals for kids in different countries are truly amazing and surprising! Every country has its standards for school meals. Some schools offer convenience food and snacks for lunch, and some cook set meals for students. What do you think the most popular ingredients of school lunches are? Well, how about octopus, kimchi, or chili? Are you curious what kids eat in South Korea? What they prefer in Turkey? Some of those lunches are quite unusual. Watch and try to find your childhood meals! TIMESTAMPS South Korea 0:41 Japan 1:23 Turkey 1:55 Thailand 2:28 France 2:59 Finland 3:28 Russia 4:08 Hungary 4:34 Israel 4:53 Colombia 5:25 Italy 5:55 Australia 6:37 Chile 7:11 SUMMARY - The system of planning school meals in South Korea is one of the best in the world. Lunches are served on special trays. The two biggest sections of the tray are usually for soup and rice. Smaller sections are for salads, seafood, veggies, and fruit. - Japanese school lunches are almost the same as the South Korean ones: hot soup, rice, poultry or fish, salad, and milk. Students are not allowed to bring their food with them until they reach high school. - It's interesting that, though children in Turkey have 1 hour for lunch, cafeterias are rare in this country. So students either go home for lunch (which might be hard to do if you live on the other side of the town!) or take food from home. - Students in Thailand don't eat in the canteen, just like their "colleagues" from Japan. They are usually given soup, pork in sweet and sour sauce, rice, and a pudding wrapped in banana leaves. - Typical lunch served in the west of France looks very healthy. It is fish, spinach, potatoes, cheese, and bread. It is quite big as the French consider lunch the main meal of the day. - Finland takes school lunches very seriously. Every student is offered snacks during the morning and evening classes, as well as lunch. Children eat their lunches in a canteen where they can choose whatever they want from a large variety of dishes. - In Russia, students can have free breakfast from 9 a.m. till 12 p.m. Lunches after 12 p.m. are paid. Children sometimes have lunch at home if they live near the school. If it is a school lunch, it is usually soup, fish or meat with a side dish of rice or buckwheat, and compote. - Hungary is famous for its big portions in restaurants and cafes. Same goes for school lunches. Children have several courses, with, for example, noodle soup, baked beans with chicken, and nuts for dessert. - Israel schools have the policy of a healthy diet. The government banned fatty and sugary things from school lunches. But the thing is that children mostly bring their meals from home. - 60-70% of children in Colombia are given free nutritious lunches. Students of state schools eat one hot meal a day. Their typical meal consists of soup, rice or pasta, salad, meat, and fruit juice. - Before lunch, in the morning, children get snacks (crackers, breadsticks, fresh fruit, or homemade cookies). For lunch they get two courses: a first course is often pasta or rice with seafood or vegetables, a second course - fish, meat, or cheese. - Authorities in Australia fight against children's obesity. That's why products rich in sugar, salt, and fat are forced out of school menu. But you can find their healthier replacements such as sandwiches, sushi, corn and fruit available at any time. - Students in Chile have nice and varied lunches. An example can be a meal with rice, beef roll, French fries, salad, avocado, orange juice, and fruit in the sauce for dessert. How America's public schools keep kids in poverty | Kandice Sumner

13:51
Why should a good education be exclusive to rich kids? Schools in low-income neighborhoods across the US, specifically in communities of color, lack resources that are standard at wealthier schools -- things like musical instruments, new books, healthy school lunches and soccer fields -- and this has a real impact on the potential of students. Kandice Sumner sees the disparity every day in her classroom in Boston. In this inspiring talk, she asks us to face facts -- and change them. A Japanese Method to Develop Creativity in Kids

09:17
Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Japanese people are known for their intelligence, politeness, and wellness. Why is this nation so unique and different from the rest of the world? It seems we’ve found the answer – they have an incredibly cool education system and unique teaching methods! Watch till the end – there is a small but brilliant bonus for you. Let’s start with a unique Japanese method in the schools for developing creativity in kids. We believe that the whole world needs to adopt! It’s called “Nameless paints.” Japanese designers named Yusuke Imai and Ayami Moteki created an unusual set to teach kids colors and painting. This fantastic set won the 2012 Kokuyo Design Award. Let’s see how it works. “Nameless paints” includes ten tubes that don’t have color names such as “yellow,” “blue,” or “green.” Instead, there are only spots of a particular color or colors on each tube. As you can see, the spots are also different sizes. The designers’ aim is to change the way kids think and learn. They want children to understand what shade they will get if they mix certain colors. For instance, a child looks at the tube with two spots: pink and blue. He doesn’t know what color hides inside. He squeezes the tube and gets… purple color! So, as a result, the kid learns that the same amounts of pink and blue paints create purple. Here’s another example – a tube with a big blue spot and small pink one. It means if you mix a small amount of the pink color and a large amount of the blue color, you’ll get dark-blue color. Interesting, right? As you can see, each tube hides a particular color inside. Pink, yellow, blue, purple, red, dark green, dark blue, orange, light-green, and black. However, to get one of these shades, the child should think about which colors create it. As a result, they learn how to create new colors and how to mix them. It’s an easy and fun way to understand the color theory. Recent studies have shown that free thinking is an attribute that a person can acquire over time, and the schools play the most important part in developing creativity. Now, here’s the bonus – 10 brilliant features of the Japanese education system the whole world needs to adopt. The success of the Japanese culture is very simple: they put a lot of effort and time in the education system trying to make it not only useful but also fun. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brightside/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brightgram/ 5-Minute Crafts Youtube: https://www.goo.gl/8JVmuC  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me/

Jayme Closs suspect Jake Patterson was quiet, hoped to join Marines

01:01
GORDON, Wis. – Jake Thomas Patterson remains a mystery. At Northwood School District in Minong, where he graduated from the K-12 school in 2015, Patterson was quiet and withdrawn, yet smart enough to be on a quiz team and able to crack a quick joke. In the school's yearbook, he said that after graduation he planned to enlist in the Marine Corps. and wrote, "I'm finally done with school." It's not clear whether Patterson ever followed through on joining the military. He did work, for just one day, at a turkey plant, and he appears to have drifted in the background in this rural swath of Wisconsin. He did not have a criminal record. The blanks in Patterson's story will fill in over the coming weeks and months as he faces charges of killing Denise and James Closs and kidnappings their 13-year-old daughter, Jayme. On Thursday, 88 days after she was abducted, Jayme escaped from a home in Gordon where authorities said she was kept by Patterson. Sheriff's deputies quickly apprehended Patterson, who they believe was out driving and looking for Jayme. He surrendered without incident. Jayme is now staying with an aunt, who said in a Facebook post that the teen had a "pretty good" night's sleep and that her family would support her throughout her healing process. "It will be a long road, but we are family strong and we love this little girl so much!!" she said. Patterson, 21, is due to make his initial court appearance Monday in Barron. Authorities have said he acted alone, using a shotgun to blast his way into the Closs home. He was targeting Jayme, they said. "We don't think there are any other suspects who helped him with this plan and ... kidnappings," Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said Saturday. Patterson will be represented by state public defenders Charles Glynn and Richard Jones, with assistance of the Public Defender's Office in Barron County. "This is a very tragic situation," Glynn and Jones said in a statement issued late Friday. "There is a substantial amount of information, interest, and emotion involved in this case. Mr. Patterson’s legal team will be relying on the integrity of our judicial system to insure that everyone’s rights are protected and respected." Patterson graduated from high school in a class of 34 students. A description of his high school years was provided by former students who didn't want to be named. 8 Japanese Parenting Rules All Kids Need

07:58
All kids are a joy to be around, but Japanese children are some of the most polite, friendly, and well-behaved you’ll ever meet. They don’t let their feelings run wild. In Japan, you’ll rarely meet a child who’s crying in the supermarket (though there are always exceptions to the rule). Bright Side thinks that we ought to learn some upbringing tricks from Japanese parents. So we’ve collected the main principles of raising children in the Land of the Rising Sun. So if your parenting rules aren’t doing the trick, maybe give these tips a try! If it works for people in Japan, it might just work for you! TIMESTAMPS: Storytelling is a top priority 0:46 The mother-child bond is very close 1:35 Rules are more important than punishment 2:23 The community is involved in parenting 3:02 The child’s nutrition is spot on 3:56 Children must think of others 4:54 Children are highly independent 5:38 Parents discipline their children in private 6:21 #japan #japanesekids #parentingtips Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - Japanese parents take special care into passing on their traditions and telling their kids about their country's history through fairy tales. - Japanese mothers have a belief that children are initially disconnected from parents and that they need to become dependent on the mother through physical touch. - Kids in Japan are often involved in sports teams, creative groups, and any club or gathering that will teach them to cooperate with others and follow pre-set guidelines. - Japanese kids are taught to always respect and honor their grandparents and all elders. Even elders who are strangers to the children are considered trustworthy and must be respected! - In Japan, children always have a balanced meal. Their parents prepare a nutritional lunch that usually includes some rice, vegetables, soup, and lean meat. - From a very early age, parents in Japan teach their children to think of others before they speak or act, so it’s very uncommon to see a child crying uncontrollably or being aggressive in public. - In Japan, kids as young as seven years old get to travel to school by themselves. The Japanese get away with this because they have a phenomenal public transport system and one of the lowest crime rates in the world. - Many parents discipline their kids in the presence of others, but Japanese parents tend to do it behind doors and away from prying eyes. Endangered Species: Worth Saving from Extinction?

06:09
TEACHERS: Get your students in the discussion on KQED Learn, a safe place for middle and high school students to investigate controversial topics and share their voices. https://learn.kqed.org/topics/5 Species are going extinct at crazy high rates. Does it matter? Find out in this video. ABOVE THE NOISE is a show that cuts through the hype and investigates the research behind controversial and trending topics in the news. Hosted by Myles Bess. *NEW VIDEOS EVERY OTHER WEDNESDAY* SUBSCRIBE by clicking the RED BUTTON above. Follow us on Instagram @kqedabovethenoise What does it mean when a species goes extinct? A species goes extinct when there are no longer any more of that species left on earth. That species is gone forever aka extinct. What is the 6th mass extinction? Throughout earth’s history there have been five major mass extinction events-- where a large percentage of species died out. Scientists estimate that we are in the middle of the 6th mass extinction event right now, where species are dying out at 1,000 to 10,000 times baseline extinction rates. Why should we care if a species goes extinct? Moral and ethical arguments to try to prevent species extinction include reasons like all life has a right to be here, or that we owe it to our grandchildren to protect species so they can see them in the wild. Species also impact the ecosystems they are a part of; plants and animals depend on each other in an ecosystem for things like food and shelter, so if one species dies out, then that could affect other species in an ecosystem. For example sea otters live in kelp forests and eat sea urchins, and when they were hunted almost to extinction the sea urchin population increased and ate all the kelp-- destroying the kelp forest habitat. What are ecosystem services? Ecosystem services are the collective benefits we get from ecosystems. Ecosystems provide us with a lot of great things like natural resources and water, and are home to living things we depend on-- like insects that pollinate our crops and decomposers that get rid of our waste. Ecosystems are healthiest when they are the most biodiverse. Public Schools Question Students on Parents, Drugs, LGBT

03:33
In this video, The New American's correspondent Alex Newman exposes federally backed surveys being forced on children across the country. Among other controversies, these questionnaires originating from the CDC ask children about their parents and their home life. They also ask intrusive questions about the children's sexual activity, drug use, and more. Alex explains that there are two fundamental problems with this. The first is that these questions lead children to believe that sodomy, fornication, drug use, gender confusion and more are normal and common among their fellow classmates. Secondly, the surveys help government gather highly sensitive and private data that can--and almost certainly will--someday be used against them. Parents must resist.
