Japan's Kyosan has a solution for India's traffic jams

02:58
Tokyo/ New Delhi, April 2 (ANI): Cities across India like other Asian cities are facing traffic congestion, especially during peak hours. In Mumbai, the country's financial capital, jams are worsening as thousands of new vehicles are being added to the city's roads every day. Already, Mumbai and Delhi are recording 15-16 kmph top speeds during peak hours. Things take a turn for the worse when traffic lights fail to manage the flow of traffic. However, Japan's Kyosan Electric Manufacturing Co. Ltd. has a solution to India's growing traffic chaos with its invention of Profile Signal Control System called ARTEMIS. In Iwata city of Japan the technology has already been implemented successfully.

2019 Toyota New Engine and 6 Speed CVT Transmission for 2.0-liter Class Based on TNGA

04:05
2019 Toyota New Engine and CVT Transmission for 2.0-liter Class Based on TNGA Direct Shift-CVT: A New Type of Continuously Variable Transmission The basic function of any transmission system is to achieve transmission efficiency, high-efficiency engine ranges, and highly responsive gear changes. To improve these functions, Toyota has striven to reduce mechanical loss, adopt a wider gear range, and improve shift tracking. These initiatives have resulted in a direct and smooth driving experience with superior fuel efficiency, which has been improved by six percent over the existing transmission system. Reduced mechanical loss The new powertrain unit features the world's first launch gear in a passenger vehicle CVT1, which facilitates improved transmission efficiency in lower gear ratios where belt efficiency is poor. The transmission system utilizes gear drive when starting from a full stop, resulting in powerful acceleration while at the same time resolving the momentary sluggish feeling that was previously present during accelerator operation. Both smooth and comfortable launch performance are realized. When switching from gear drive to belt drive, the transmission system uses highly responsive gear change control technologies cultivated from AT technology. Conversion to wider gear ranges In line with the adoption of a launch gear, belt use is now specified for higher gear ratios. This new setup not only improves the efficiency of belt use, but also enables the adoption of wider gear ranges, thereby realizing a class-leading gear ratio range of 7.5 for the 2.0-liter class1. Improved shift tracking The adoption of launch gears results in reduced input load. This enables the size of both belt and pulley components to be reduced. The belt angle has been narrowed and pulley diameters reduced, resulting in shifting speeds that are 20 percent faster. Both powerful and rhythmic acceleration are realized. New 6-speed Manual Transmission (6MT) Toyota has also developed a new manual transmission in response to global needs, particularly those in Europe. Compared to the existing version, the mass of the new system has been reduced by seven kilograms and total length by 24 millimeters. This makes it one of the world's smallest transmissions1, and its small size contributes to improved fuel efficiency. The 6MT also offers world-leading transmission efficiency1, while the use of iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) controls, which automatically adjust engine rotations when changing gears, ensures smooth gear shifting―free of uncomfortable recoils―for the driver. 2.0-liter Dynamic Force Engine, a New 2.0-liter Direct-injection, Inline 4-cylinder Gasoline Engine Toyota's new Dynamic Force Engine adopts high-speed combustion technologies and a variable control system. It also achieves greater thermal efficiency, resulting in high output, due to a reduction in energy loss associated with exhaust and cooling systems, the movement of mechanical parts, and other aspects. As a result, the newly developed 2.0-liter gasoline vehicle and hybrid vehicle engines achieve world-leading thermal efficiencies of 40 percent and 41 percent respectively1. In addition, compared to existing engines, the new engines achieve increased torque at all engine speeds―from low to high rotations―and will comply with expected future exhaust regulations in each country in advance. 2.0-liter Toyota Hybrid System (THS II) Toyota has developed a new hybrid system for 2.0-liter engines, which applies the same size-reducing, weight-reducing, and loss-reducing technologies used in the fourth-generation Prius. The new system realizes improved driving performance while retaining superior fuel efficiency. When accelerating, the hybrid system reduces engine rotations while drawing increased electric power from the battery, thereby delivering a linear and lengthened sense of acceleration. New Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD and E-Four 4WD Systems Toyota has developed two new 4WD systems with the aim of improving fuel efficiency and achieving high 4WD handling, stability, and off-road performance. The new Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD system is used in gasoline engine vehicles. By adopting a torque vectoring mechanism, which independently distributes torque to the left and right rear wheels according to driving conditions, the Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD system enables the driver to steer the vehicle exactly as intended. It achieves high off-road performance even on the toughest roads. It also incorporates a disconnect mechanism, which features the world's first ratchet-type dog clutches1 on both the front and rear wheel shafts. These clutches stop the drive system rotations, which transmit driving force to rear wheels when in 2WD mode, significantly reducing energy loss and improving fuel efficiency. 1. In this video I explain what happens when the government controls market prices. Price ceilings are a legal maximum price and price floors are a minimum legal price. Make sure that you can draw each of them on a demand and supply graph and identify if there is a shortage or a surplus. Keep in mind that your teacher may use the word "binding" to describe the situation where the price control has an effect on the market. China is a great power and a major regional power within Asia, and has been characterized as a potential superpower.[19][20] China emerged as one of the world's earliest civilizations in the fertile basin of the Yellow River in the North China Plain. For millennia, China's political system was based on hereditary monarchies, or dynasties, beginning with the semi-legendary Xia dynasty. Since then, China has then expanded, fractured, and re-unified numerous times. In 1912, the Republic of China (ROC) replaced the last dynasty and ruled the Chinese mainland until 1949, when it was defeated by the communist People's Liberation Army in the Chinese Civil War. The Communist Party established the People's Republic of China in Beijing on 1 October 1949, while the ROC government retreated to Taiwan with its present de facto temporary capital in Taipei. Both the ROC and PRC continue to claim to be the legitimate government of all China, though the latter has more recognition in the world and controls more territory. Since the introduction of economic reforms in 1978, China has become one of the world's fastest-growing major economies. As of 2016, it is the world's second-largest economy by nominal GDP and largest by purchasing power parity (PPP). China is also the world's largest exporter and second-largest importer of goods.[21] China is a recognized nuclear weapons state and has the world's largest standing army and second-largest defense budget.[22][23] The PRC is a member of the United Nations, as it replaced the ROC as a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council in 1971. China is also a member of numerous formal and informal multilateral organizations, including the WTO, APEC, BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the BCIM and the G-20. The English name "China" is first attested in Richard Eden's 1555 translation[j] of the 1516 journal of the Portuguese explorer Duarte Barbosa.[k][29] The demonym, that is, the name for the people, and adjectival form "Chinese" developed later on the model of Portuguese chinês and French chinois.[30][l] Portuguese China is thought to derive from Persian Chīn (چین), and perhaps ultimately from Sanskrit Cīna (चीन).[32] Cīna was first used in early Hindu scripture, including the Mahābhārata (5th century bce) and the Laws of Manu (2nd century bce).[33] The traditional theory, proposed in the 17th century by Martino Martini[34] and supported by many later scholars, is that the word "China" and its earlier related forms are ultimately derived from the state of Qin (秦, Old Chinese: *Dzin),[35] the westernmost of the Chinese states during the Zhou dynasty which unified China to form the Qin dynasty.[36] There are, however, other suggestions for the derivation of "China".[33] The official name of the modern state is the "People's Republic of China" (Chinese: 中华人民共和国; pinyin: Zhōnghuá Rénmín Gònghéguó). The shorter form is "China" Zhōngguó (中国), from zhōng ("central" or "middle") and guó ("state, nation-state"),[24][m] a term which developed under the Zhou Dynasty in reference to its royal demesne.

The profession of Civil engineer is considered as one of the well paid and respected as they are major contributors to the society. They must possess a very broad skill set, from cost accounting to geology. Many civil engineers have jobs that require a very hands-on role in construction, while others may have positions more heavily weighted toward supervisory and administrative skills. We can therefore see how important it is for Civil Engineers to possess certain qualities and skills. Here we are providing the 7 most important skills that civil engineers should have in order succeed. 1. Technical Skills A good Civil Engineer should have a level of Mathematics and Physics that allows for the identification and solving of engineering problems. Lets put it this way, if a Structural Engineer wasn't able to accurately work out how much weight is being distributed throughout a bridge, anyone wouldn't dare to be driving anywhere near that bridge. Civil Engineers also need to be skilled in design techniques and working with maps, drawings and models, as well as CAD software. They need to be able to predict any possible future problems and find solutions for them. 2. Project Management When problems arise, it is common for people involved in the project on all levels to look to the engineer for guidance and resolution. It is important that a Civil Engineer is able to step up to the task and manage a diverse team of professionals whilst maintaining the confidence of clients. 3. Leadership Skills Civil engineers carry a great deal of responsibility as they are ultimately in charge of the entire project’s design and implementation. They must be able to lead a diverse team of professionals, including surveyors, construction managers, technicians, contractors, architects, urban planners, transportation engineers and others, as well as maintain the confidence of governmental planning authorities. The effectiveness of the civil engineer’s leadership skills may be a significant determining factor in keeping a project on time and on budget. 4. Communication Skills In Civil Engineering - perhaps more so than other Engineering fields - the ability to communicate effectively is a highly sought after skill. Whether dealing with Management or a client, Engineers need to be able to clearly communicate ideas and give direction leaving no ambiguity. They must also be able to listen and benefit from the ideas of others in the team. 5. Creativity It could be said broadly that the role of Civil Engineers is applying Engineering principles to develop solutions within the built environment. More often than not, this requires a certain level of creativity. Engineers need to be able to innovate and improve on solutions. From finding ways to reduce CO2 emissions or making a trampoline bridge, creativity is key. 6. Visualization The ability to imagine what something will look like when it’s finished and visualize how complex components will come together is one of the most important skills a civil engineer can have. Visualization skills must be flexible and dynamic in order to identify and resolve issues before they can become problems. Because there are so many component parts to large-scale projects, civil engineers must be able to envision how the interrelationships change when one or more individual aspects are changed. 7. Critical Thinking Civil Engineers often face complex problems and need to find efficient solutions for them. They need to be able to assess the pros and cons of all possible solutions, and they need to be decisive in order to choose the best one. Civil Engineers generally require a very broad skill set and these list is in no way exhaustive but these 7 were what we saw to be the most important skills for a Civil Engineer. While Congress remains deadlocked over gun control, savvy gun manufacturers have been getting creative, coming out with new products that circumvent America’s aging regulations. Thanks to minor technical adjustments, these new weapons are available for purchase without any government oversight -- meaning firearms heavily regulated in the 1930s are back and more dangerous than ever. Regulation: The Cause, Not the Cure, of the Financial Crisis

14:56
Written by Roderick Long Read by Stephanie Murphy Edited by Nick Ford Online article: http://radgeek.com/gt/2011/10/Markets-Not-Capitalism-2011-Chartier-and-Johnson.pdf Also available here: http://praxeology.net/aotp.htm#6 You can find the audiobook here (and can donate to Stephanie!): http://www.porctherapy.com/audiobooks.. Excerpt: "The grain of truth in the otherwise ludicrous statist mantra that the financial crisis was caused by “lack of regulation” is that when you pass regulation A granting a private or semi-private firm the right to play with other people’s money, but then repeal or fail to enact regulation B restricting the firm’s ability to take excessive risks with that money, the ensuing crisis is in a sense to be attributed in part to the absence of regulation B. But the fatal factor is not the absence of regulation B per se but the absence of B when combined with the presence of A; the absence of B would cause no problem if A were absent as well. So, sure, there was insufficient regulation, if by “insufficient regulation” you mean a failure on government’s part to rein in, via further regulations, the problems created by its initial regulations. So if the problem is caused by A without B, it might be objected, why must we adopt the libertarian solution of getting rid of A? Can’t we solve the problem just as well by keeping A but adding regulation B alongside it? The answer is no, because central planning doesn’t work; when one responds to bad regulations by adding new regs to counteract the old ones, rather than simply repealing the old ones, one adds more and more layers between decisions and the market, increasingly muffling price-system feedback and courting calculational chaos." Bitcoin Cash - November 15th Hard Fork (Bitcoin ABC vs Bitcoin SV) (Craig Wright vs Amaury Séchet)

Bottlenecks prevented larger blocks from being mined: https://twitter.com/lopp/status/1036245691050483714 ⚫ Amaury Séchet @ BCH Devcon Amsterdam 2018 (use the timestamps in the top-pinned comment): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wSFlyG-TY0 “Yes, so I agree, we need to get beyond 32 MB at some point. But I’d like to put things in perspective. 32 MB is PayPal level volumes of transactions. So it’s already— you are a worldwide payment system. You are not THE payment system and the money of the world, but you are pretty damn big. So we are there. The problem is we know if we go beyond that actually the software doesn’t work at all. Like, there is a bunch of problems in the software that make it so that it doesn’t quite work. And so, if you just increase the blocksize and you don’t change those other stuff, the only that you achieve is that you increase your attack surface. Because, there are all kinds of those vectors that become 4 times as bad if they are linear, 16 times as bad if they are quadratic, and so on. And so it doesn’t seem like a very rational decision to increase that limit to increase your attack surface when you effectively cannot handle that transaction volume because of other limitation in the software.” - - - “So we prioritize the work in a bit of a different way. So Bitcoin Unlimited prioritizes the work to work on the most immediate bottleneck first. So the first bottleneck we hit they work on it and then they go to the next one. In Bitcoin ABC we have prioritized things in a way that is a bit different where we prioritize the bottleneck that is the harder to fix first. Because the way we see it is the ecosystem is quite small right now. And so those smaller expensive changes are—any kind of change becomes more expensive as the ecosystem grows. So if we do the most expensive change that needs to happen to scale properly now, the cost is less big. Because by the point we grow enough so that we hit that bottleneck, it is also very likely we will be big enough so that the cost is prohibitively high to fix those. And this is more or less what happened with the block size. In like 2012, 2013 or so, people started talking about the block size. And everybody was like, “you know—we don’t really care. The block size is less than 100kb. When they get bigger we are going to fix it. No problem. Everybody agrees.” Right? This was what everybody was saying at the time. But then when we got close, we saw that we had a bunch of new actors in the space—many of them did not want to do because they had the business plan that was aligned with the fact that there is a limit. And generally there are more people to convince as well. So we found ourselves in a position where is became very, very difficult to raise the block size, and we ended up having to fork to make that happen. So we very much don’t want to find ourselves in the same situation again for other elements that limit scaling. And this is why we have been focusing on those elements that are the most expensive to fix.” - - - “I would argue though that saying, “Ok, we’ve raised the block size to 128 MB” when we cannot really handle it. And say, “Ok, we can handle that.” And then maybe one of those businesses is going to actually try and everything breaks down. It’s probably even worse than saying “We do 32 MB.” So, I would be very much of the opinion that we need to raise it as much as possible to avoid this kind of issue, but I would rather not advertise something that we cannot do. “ - - - Disclaimer: The views expressed in this video are strictly my own and are not to be construed as trading advice. Technology that knows what you're feeling | Poppy Crum

12:43
What happens when technology knows more about us than we do? Poppy Crum studies how we express emotions -- and she suggests the end of the poker face is near, as new tech makes it easy to see the signals that give away how we're feeling. In a talk and demo, she shows how "empathetic technology" can read physical signals like body temperature and the chemical composition of our breath to inform on our emotional state. For better or for worse. "If we recognize the power of becoming technological empaths, we get this opportunity where technology can help us bridge the emotional and cognitive divide," Crum says. LIFE RURAL SUPPLIES

06:47
The provision of water services in scattered rural communities is a challenge of great significance for the implementation of European regulations concerning the quality of water intended for human consumption (Directive 98/83/EC) and the protection and management of water (Directive 2000/60/EC). Currently, in Galicia 580,000 people consume water through autonomous solutions. In this region, the technical and economic feasibility of centralized infrastructures is severely limited by factors such as distance from highly populated area or the enormity of the investment needed to undertake them. Alternatively, there is the in-depth analysis of autonomous systems (developed spontaneously in response to the historic shortcomings of local administration) in connection with its impact on the environment (sometimes positive, sometimes not) and on the costs of services water. To do so, with the help of the European Commission, Augas of Galicia, the Ministry of Health and the city of Abegondo intend to develop innovative and practical actions that improve the capabilities of the local population in provision of non-centralized water supply services. The main obtained results are the following: Output 1: to achieve the active participation of local dwellers in the project, overcoming the initial mistrust of the neighborhood to the intervention of the administration. Output 2: to prove the suitability of underground water bodies as a drink water supply source in the rural areas. Output 3: to diagnose the existing systems in the current facilities in order to raise and solve their problems, from the extracting zone to the consumer´s tap. Output 4: to build trial facilities of self-supplying systems with the more suitable technical solutions in the catchment, distribution and subsequent treatment of water consumed from wells and springs. Output 5: to enable the neighborhood in the execution of management and self-management plans, to ensure water’s security. Output 6: to design and to propose an action plan, so that the methodology used in Abegondo can be replicated in other

Biomimicry: Business Innovations Inspired by Nature: Jakki Mohr at TEDxBozeman

12:57
Biomimicry--a tool for creativity and innovation--has the potential to transform business practices to be in harmony with nature.  Professor Jakki Mohr, Regents Professor of the University of Montana, provides many examples of how biomimicry is used to develop technological innovations, including:  Qualcomm's mirasol display technology, creating vibrant color based on the butterfly wing; Swedish Biomimetics 3000 uMist technology for industrial sprays without VOCs based on the bombardier beetle; Greenshield Technology's waterproof fabric finish based on the lotus leaf, and Ornilux Birdsafe Glass based on UV reflective strands in spider webs.  Her research and projects with companies commercializing biomimetic inventions and infusing biomimicry into their innovation processes provides insights for success.  Interface Flor, with its line of Entropy carpet tiles, is a shining success story in the world of biomimicry, based on not only its use of biomimicry in product innovation (patterned after the forest floor), but also in its infusion of sustainability through-out the company. Jakki Mohr, Ph.D., is the Regents Professor of Marketing and the Jeff & Martha Hamilton Distinguished Faculty Fellow at the University of Montana-Missoula. She is an international expert on the marketing of technology and innovation, and the co-author of a book on that topic. Motivated by the desire to bring the promise of new technologies to solve social and global problems, she has worked with companies and universities worldwide in strategic market planning to commercialize innovation. Her most recent interest is the field of biomimicry. Funded by the Marketing Science Institute out of Boston, she is studying how companies can successfully use nature-inspired designs to solve technical and engineering challenges. Tears Of The Girls In Amazon | Video of Uncontacted Amazon Tribes in Brazil

00:00
Based on a MBC documentary, "Tears of the Amazon" tells the story of Amazon natives and how the destruction of their natural environment changed their lives. "Tears of the Amazon" is a big budget documentary that captures vivid images of the Amazon River in Brazil over the course of 300 days. The aerial camera mount, Cineflex have shot plenty of gorgeous high definition images of the vast Amazon River for the viewing pleasure. The documentary also address to provoking questions about environmental issues that will threaten the Amazon. Half of the 2 million plant and animal species in the world live in the Amazon, which is a treasure trove of wildlife diversity. There are indios who live deep in the jungles of the Amazon and do without the trappings of modern civilization while adhering to their traditional way of life. With strict paternal families, the indios of the Amazon are polygamous. But Western civilization is slowly encroaching into their lands. Bicycles, satellite dishes... What kind of changes are taking place in the Amazon jungles? The Zoe tribe retain the earliest human way of life and how Waura tribe begins to accept parts of the modern life. On the other hand, the Amazon is facing the threats brought by modern practices, such as rapid deforestation for large-scale farmland and the extinction of precious species due to over-hunting. Tears of the Amazon focuses on seven aboriginal tribes of the Amazons - particularly the Matis and their gradual transformation after their first contacts with modern civilization, and the Zoe, which live on the exact opposite end of the spectrum, avoiding any outward contact and maintaining their style of life intact. Showing how the rapid and gradual destruction of this natural paradise is affecting those tribes, Tears of the Amazon - just like its predecessor Tears of the Arctic - brings a new dimension to the discourse about global warming and environmentalism, through humanism which feels honest enough not turn the real matter at hand into a mere springboard for political diatribe. And for K-drama fans, it's even narrated by Queen Seon Duk's own Kim Nam-Gil, so all the more reason to check it out.
