This is a very complicated world. It’s a very noisy world. And we’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is! And so, we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us. Now Apple, fortunately, is one of half-a-dozen best brands in the whole world. Right up there with Nike, Disney, Coke, Sony — it is one of the greats of the greats. Not just in this country, but all around the globe. But even a great brand needs investment and caring if it’s going to retain its relevance and vitality. And the Apple brand has clearly suffered from neglect in this area in the last few years. And we need to bring it back! The way to do that is NOT to talk about speeds and fees. It’s NOT to talk about bits and mega-hertz. It’s NOT to talk about why we are better than Windows. The dairy industry tried for 20 years to convince you that milk was good for you. It’s a lie, but they tried anyway. And the sales were falling. And then they tried “Got milk” and the sales went up. “Got milk” wasn’t even talking about the product. In fact, it focuses on the absence of the product. But the best example of all, and one of the greatest jobs of marketing that the universe has ever seen, is Nike. Remember, Nike sells a commodity. They sell shoes!!! And yet, when you think of Nike you feel something different than a shoe company. In their ads, as you know, they don’t ever talk about the product. They don’t ever tell you about their air soles and why they are better than Reebok’s air soles. What does Nike do in their advertising? They honor great athletes. And they honor great athletics. That’s who they are, that’s what they are about! Apple spends a fortune on advertising — you’d never know it….you’d never know it! So…when I got here, Apple just fired their agency and there was a competition with 23 agencies that…you know…four years from now we would pick one. And we blew that up and we hired Chiat\Day, the ad agency that I was fortunate enough to work with years ago and created some award winning work including the commercial voted the best ad ever made, 1984 (by Advertising Professionals). And…we started working about eight weeks ago, and the question we asked was, “Our customers want to know who is Apple and what is it that we stand for…where do we fit in this world?” And what we’re about isn’t making boxes for people to get their jobs done — although we do that well. We do that better than almost anybody, in some cases. But Apple is about something more than that! Apple at the core…its core value — is that, we believe that people with passion can change the world for the better. That’s what we believe! And we have had the opportunity to work with people like that. We’ve had the opportunity to work with people like you; with software developers, with customers, who have done it. In some big, and some small ways. And we believe that, in this world, people can change it for the better. And that those people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones that actually do! And so, what we’re going to do in our first brand marketing campaign in several years, is to get back to that core value! A lot of things have changed. The market is in a total different place than where it was a decade ago. And Apple is totally different — and Apple’s place in it is totally different. And believe me, the products, and the distribution strategy, and the manufacturing are totally different…and we understand that. But values and core values — those things shouldn’t change. The things that Apple believed in at its core, are the same things Apple really stands for today. The analysis on how much money we're spending to generate the traffic and here's what's crazy, most people don't realize this, we generate, let's say a million visitors a month on Neil Patel. Do you know what the cost to get there is with video, production, podcasting, blogging, promotion, ads, link building? $110,000 a month. That's what it averaged out to for 2017. Here are my marketing strategies for 2018. I just bought a blog in the marketing space for a half a million bucks. They get a million visitors a month, and it's cheaper to spend money acquiring people who already have the traffic. So in 2017, I bought Uber Suggest, I think it was around 140 grand. They had very little traffic. I 381 redirected the site, traffic increased and guess what happened? Nothing. I hoped that my traffic would go through the roof, but nothing happened. Uber Suggest was a good acquisition and what I ended up learning from that is, who cares about links? Don't buy anything for the links. Buy it purely based off of traffic and just pay a simple metric. If Uber Suggest has roughly 200,000 visitors per month, I paid a hundred and something; I would have paid 200 grand, the money didn't matter. For a blog that I just spent half a million on, their traffic ranges. On a horrible month, they'll get around 800,000 uniques. In a perfect month, they'll get around, like, 1.2, 1.3 million uniques, and all I'm doing right now is buying as many blogs as possible. My marketing strategy for 2018 is to buy blogs based on of traffic. I look at the top posts that they have and how qualified their visitors are and determine if I can successfully monetize their content. I don't even care if they have revenue. If they don't have revenue, even better. The problem with Search Engine Journal is that they have conferences, they have advertising, and they have contracts for all of it. I don't care for any of that. I just want the traffic. So when you buy all these people for traffic and then you put it into your monetization flow, you can quickly figure out, what is this worth? If I can't make my money back in less than 12 months, I will not buy it. The other marketing strategy that I use when I'm buying these sites is to look for blogs that aren't monetized well. The blog that I ended up buying for half a million bucks, they're not even making three grand a month. If you're not even making three grand a month, that's a good deal, right? They're like; you're going to give me half a million dollars for this? No problem. Another creative marketing strategy I'm doing right now, is trying to buy a really popular marketing tool. I don't want to pay them all the money they're asking for because they want well into the millions, and it isn't worth it. But, I'm trying to work out a deal where I give them X amount of money up front, let's say a million dollars, and then give them a hundred thousand a month over X amount of months or a hundred thousand a year over X amount of years. When I see inefficiencies in sites, I figure I can purchase them and double the revenue because they aren't optimized for traffic or conversions. So buy it for what it's worth, optimize it, and then use the profits to pay them out continually. That way you're not using all of your money and the business is paying, you may have spent a bit more money, but personally, you don't have to spend as much money, and that's my marketing strategy for 2018. My goal is to spend at least $5 million acquiring businesses purely based on their traffic. My wife and I have distributed over 50,000 Kindle books and the number of leads and customers we have generated through our funnels with our Kindle books is amazing! Also, some of the highest quality traffic we receive comes from Kindle because Kindle users often our customers and there's leveraged credibility from Amazon for us. These people have consumer content, purchased a product of ours before they ever enter our funnel… This increases the likelihood of them taking action on the offers we present throughout her funnel. The cannabis industry is thus always trying to utilize various hacks to get around with Facebook’s and other anti-cannabis ad policy. Let’s see how they are doing it: Influencer Marketing Cannabis businesses are increasingly paying social media influencers to get them to talk about the cannabis products. Big cannabis brands like Incredibles and Wana have increased their influencer marketing budget significantly over the past few years. Marijuana delivery services such as Eaze, SpeedWeed, and GreenRush are also using influencers to promote their services. Though it showed cannabis products, the Facebook algorithm allowed the video to spread out because it was an editorial and not highly promotional. Krista Whitley, who worked on the video with Caviar Gold, said that “it’s a tactic that has always worked on Facebook, even before the platform began tightening its control of weed ads in the summer of 2016“. Moral of the story is that you can sponsor editorial content that subtly promotes your business and helps you get away with the anti-cannabis ad policy. Search Engine Optimization for Cannabis Around 38 million people in the united states suffer from Migraine and 2-3 million of them encounter chronic Migraine. Meanwhile, many studies including ones that were published by National Institutes of Health have revealed that cannabis can be very effective in alleviating Migraine pain. So, no surprise that keywords like “ Cannabis for Migraine”, “Best CBD Strains for Migrane” or “best edibles for Migraines, are quite popular in the US. Many cannabis companies are trying to capitalize on these searches made around marijuana keywords. By default, SEO is an almost unregulated marketing channel as search engine business models don’t allow for any manual intervention. As a result, there is much more flexibility about what you can say or show than paid ads. So, to attract more customers to your cannabis business, you need to conjure up strategies that can beat the Facebook and other social media platforms’ anti-cannabis policy. The average lifespan of a company has dropped from 61 years in 1958 to a mere 15 years today. This reduction in lifespan can be attributed to the demanding environment brands and businesses are operating in. It is getting harder and harder for a brand to stand out. Brands are not only (more and more) limited in the use of claims, they are also under increased time pressure. They are being copied faster than ever, with these replicas even outperforming the originals. In this fast-pacing environment, established brands are being kicked off the throne by new market entrees. When it makes sense, link back out to your website. This is so effective that my Quora profile gets hundreds of thousands of views each month. Step 2: Create content in different formats (text, video, audio) and promote them on the social web (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Quora). You can post the same content on multiple social sites as Google DOES NOT penalize for duplicate content. When using this tactic make sure you only put part of your content on social media and make the readers click over back to your site to read the rest. Step 3: Google for forums within your space and respond to questions. Within your forum response add a signature that lists your website. The better response you give the more traffic you will get. That's how you market your website when you can't spend any money on marketing. :)

You do some SEO, and you do some content marketing, maybe even some social media marketing, and boom, you're popular. But what happens if you have a mobile app? How do you market it? Well, first off, if you have a mobile app, great. You can start marketing it, and I'll show you how. But if you don't have a mobile app and you're just thinking about making one, and you're curious on how to market it, well, first start off with BuildFire. BuildFire is a quick and easy way where you can build an app without being a developer, and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. So now that we got that out of the way, hopefully, you have a mobile app by now. The first thing you want to do when it comes to marketing your app is generate press. If you're too lazy and you don't want to generate press on your own, go check out prserve.com David's slow. It's founded by a guy named Chris Barrett. And Chris Barrett does performance-based press in which, when you get press, you pay. If he doesn't get you press, you shouldn't pay. Funny enough, that's how all PR should be. I don't know why these companies are trying to charge $10,000, $20,000 monthly retainers when they're not guaranteeing any press. All right, so you can use a service or a company like PRServe. If you want to do it on your own, go check out who's covering apps within your space. If you have a beauty app, then, all right, go check out all the beauty bloggers. Give them the app for free. And don't just give it to them for free when everyone else is getting it for free, but you want to give it to them before you launch it to the public. By giving them early access, they're going to be like, "Oh my God, I love you, Neil. "This app's amazing." And then they're going to cover it; they're going to feel special. And then when everyone starts covering it, then you're going to get some awesome press and some signups. Number two, what you want to do is get coverage in the blogosphere. It could just be someone talking about marketing, assuming you have a marketing app, and they include you within that blog spot. So what I do is I go reach out to all the bloggers who have already written articles that are related to my app. The third thing you want to do, and I hate to say this, spend money on advertising. You can get a ton of traffic from Facebook ads for your app installs. You can also go to other people out there who already have apps and buy ad space from them. You probably have some games on your phone. What do you see when you're playing these games? Every once in awhile it'll be like, pause, ad break, and there'll be an ad for another app. That's when you can get your app in there. It's dirt cheap. You can do this in quantity, and that'll also help you drive a lot of installs. Follow those three things, you'll get a lot more app installs, and you'll be popular, and hopefully, your app monetizes so that way you can make money. Once you have people in your app, then you can start doing like the virality, in which you can do invite flows, give people bonuses and points for sharing, rating, be reviewing your app, which will all help with more installs in the long run. But if you have no one coming into your app, those viral loops won't work.

So let’s break down 10 questions you need to ask yourself in order to get the most out of your marketing plan. Question #1 - What want or need does your product or service fill? Understand the pain point of your customers is key to building a good marketing plan. The more you know, the better your message. Question #2 - What is your target market? Who, What, When, Where, Why? Age, gender, interests, lifestyle, etc. Knowing these things are vital to a strong marketing plan. Where do they spend their time online? How do they currently find or become aware of companies that fill the want or need are trying to fill? Question #3 - Who are your competitors? Try them! What makes you different? Why choose you? If you don’t have direct competitors, what are other solutions out there that try to fill the wants/needs of your customers? What makes you the best option? Question #4 - What are the goals of your marketing plan? How many sales or leads do you want (or need) to get from it? What is your target Cost Per Acquisition (CPA)? What is your starting budget and what percent of sales do you plan to invest back into marketing as you grow? When do you expect to achieve those metrics? Reverse engineer your goals and build realistic projections that ramp into achieving them because remember - marketing does not work overnight. Question #5 - What is your strategy for search and social? What keywords do you want to rank for and run ads for on Google? What keywords do you want to rank high for on maps? What social channels do you want to build a presence on, what kind of content do you want to post and what kind of ads do you want to run. Spend some time here and it will save you time in the future! Question #6 - What is your strategy to build a strong online reputation across multiple review sites? What collateral, emails, videos do you need to create to assist your sales team? Once a potential customer is in your sales funnel don't let them go without a fight. The question is, how do you best take advantage of text message marketing so you are truly adding value and not being annoying? Let’s talk about how to do this. Step 1 - Decide what information you want to text. This is key. Think of your text campaigns as VIP type content for your best and most loyal followers and customers. What do they really want? Is it hot deals, such as with an eCommerce store or Restaurant? Maybe important news/alerts/updates, such as with a dance club’s class schedule changes or snow closure reports? Maybe it’s to help capture online reviews, such as a Roofer after a job, who can later use that opt-in list after it hails to send a message for a free roofing inspection! What kind of VIP deals can you send on slow days or at the end of the month to help you reach your sales goals? Write them down! You need an overall sales and marketing plan (aligned), and any social tactic needs to be a part of an overall flow of tactics (what's next / what's before it / what's along side it in the buyer's journey?). But you certainly need a plan for those social tactics. We've reviewed the wisdom from five popular sites like Forbes and the Content Marketing Institute and summarised their conclusions in the blog, but here are mine: *The primary aim of a content strategy is likely to be positioning in category - Reach each audience where / how they want to be reached - Track known movers and reconnect - Track new movers - Consider LinkedIn posts for discussion rather than your blog *Also to trouble buyers a little - Make your content lead to a gap they need fixing *Selectively, also to trouble them a lot - Cold outreach new movers based on a researched Valid Business Reason Let me share with you what the five articles offered on how to create a social media marketing plan for B2B, and build the case for these conclusions a bit.

What you can do to better market and sell wine: 1. Use video as branded content to forward your wine marketing strategy. Branded content, such as video presentations, insight into how to pair wine with food, interviews with wine experts, and showcasing popular vineyards, are just some of the ideas of promoting wise through content and social media. 2. Blog more. If your winery had a special event, write a quick paragraph that covers it. Got sheep grazing in the spring vineyards? Explain how it’s part of you practice and post pictures of the baby sheep. Everyone loves baby animal pics. Is there an exciting new variety being released? Interview the winemaker, and express his passion for it. 3. Use paid social media advertising, such as Facebook. Don’t simply post links to your bottles of wine for sale. This fosters trust and increased loyalty. Post a picture of your last wine club event and tag your wine club members. Their friends and family will see that, and it furthers your brand recognition. 4. Monitor your brand. You have a world of wine bloggers, forums, and niche social communities talking about your brand. Visit their site, and comment on their review. Join the forum and do the same.
