Click here to check out the show notes, resources, and links mentioned in this episode: http://www.chrisdunn.com/042 In this episode, I’m answering the challenging question… Should you go to college? This is one of the biggest decisions many people will make in their lives. And many people end up following a path out of obligation or blindly chasing money. I feel uniquely qualified to talk about this since I explored many options and took an alternative path to finding my own success. Despite barely graduating high school and dropping out of community college my first year, I’m a huge advocate for education. I got a front-row view of the traditional path... I hustled my way into a corporate job that required a business degree, build a big house, and had the nice cars... All without going to college. And you know what? It sucked. Even though I was making good money, it left me unfulfilled. Thankfully, I was able to “test” out that role in my late teens and figure out that path wasn’t for me. I would have felt terrible had I wasted 4+ years in college only to find out I was on a path of being unfulfilled. Is college worth it in 2018? If you think about it college is in fact and investment. You're investing time and money in the hopes that getting a college degree will secure your future. But quite honestly, I feel like college is a scam. It's a waste of your time and your money, and there is a far better alternative out there. I got to thinking about what I would do differently if I could go back in time. Would I go to college or learn a trade? I went to 1 1/2 years of college before dropping out, and I think that was the right decision. There seems to be a growing number of college graduates with no jobs and plenty of student loan debt. Maybe more young people should consider learning a skilled trade like electric, plumbing, masonry, drywall, HVAC, etc. Just to be clear, I'm not saying college isn't a good choice. I'm saying it shouldn't be a default choice after high school. Frankly, going to college just isn't necessary any more. Furthermore, experience will almost always trump a degree at this point... More and more jobs do not even necessitate a college degree. Try Dashlane here: https://www.dashlane.com/infographicsshow (Plus, here’s a promo code: infographics) Before we start, let’s make something clear. Someone asks on Quora, “Why do Americans call university, college?” It is a little bit confusing if you’re not from the U.S. When Americans talk about college they are usually talking about institutes of higher learning that you attend after you graduate high school. One university might have several colleges, such as Cornell University, which has seven. ‘College’ and ‘university’ are interchangeable. We just thought we’d make that clear. If you say you are going to college in the UK or Australia or somewhere in Asia, it usually means a place of further education or somewhere you might study a vocational subject such as nursing, textile manufacturing or automotive repair. So, today we are talking more about differences after high school graduation rather than a comparison of two similar types of institutions. College costs have gone through the roof over the last two decades prompting some policy makers to argue that many Americans should simply not go to college. AEI resident scholar Andrew Kelly debunks that argument and shows that even though tuition costs have risen while the value of a college degree continues to fall, education after high school has never been more important. Brooklyn and I are Seniors and about to graduate high school, so it’s ABOUT TIME we finally announced our big college decision! Do you think we’ll go to the same university??? Watch the video to find out! YOU GUYS... our HAIR SCRUNCHIES are BACK IN STOCK! Plus, we're releasing a NEW set of colors with this video... White, Denim, and Purple! You can find our Scrunchies HERE! ▶ https://brooklynandbaileyshop.com Let us know if you like the new colors! Picking a University is not an easy task. So much thought goes into it when you consider all the options and variables out there. Although we are twins, Brooklyn and I both had different priorities when it came down to picking the right school for us individually. It is true. First, we narrowed our list down to our Top 6 schools... Stanford, Texas, Baylor, BYU, Texas A&M, and Harding! We threw in Hogwarts just for fun! Seriously though, each of these schools has its own unique charm and qualities. They have distinct campuses, diverse programs, fun traditions, and amazing student life. We were looking for a university that will provide us with the best path forward in the business world and enhance our knowledge and skill sets while also considering our profession. Marketing and Entrepreneurship are both degree tracks that are appealing to the both of us, and many of these schools have them. For me, when I laid it all in the balance alongside the scholarships that were awarded to us, it really became an easier choice. Which Medical College Will You Get If your NEET Score is between 96 to 250. This video is for students who have got low neet score 96 to 250 in NEET Examination. It covers the medical colleges and tuition fees for this score range. If you belong to Open category reservation, the qualifying marks to study medicine in any college is 119. The magic neet score 96 is applicable for BC/SC/ST students. If you belong to any of this reservation category and your NEET score for 2018 is between 96 and 250, you will not get government quota seat. If you are not going to get government quota seat, what is means is that your tuition fees would be more than Rs 1 lakh/annum. If you cannot afford tuition fees of Rs 4 lakhs/annum, then these three options covered in this video may not be relevant to you. Lets see what are the options available for these students. There are three options available as i mentioned earlier. The first one is getting management quota seat in private deemed universities. The second option is to get management quota seat in private medical colleges. The third option is to get MBBS Seat in foreign medical universities. Let us discuss the private deemed university option. Counselling for deemed university is conduced centrally by the Medical Counselling committe which conducts all india quota counselling. The tuition fees ranges between Rs 9 lakhs/annum to Rs 25 lakhs/annum. Shri Devaraj Medical College University in Kolar,Karnataka and Shri BM Patil MEdical College University in Karnataka have the lowest tutition fees of close to Rs 9 lakhs/annum. The highest tution fees of Rs 25 lakhs/annum is charged by the famous DY Patil Medical College at Mumbai followed by two chennai medical universities Sri Ramachandra and SRM where tution fees per year is close to Rs 22 lakhs. For low tuition fees deemed universities, your All India Rank should be less than 18000. You can get medical colleges which have high tuition fees for scores less than 250. There are three rounds of counselling in deemed universities. You may get a chance in the third round which is also called the mopup round with this score. If you have passed the last date to apply for deemed university counselling, then your only option to approach the college. Seats which are not filled in 3rd counselling are handed over to the respective medical college for allotment. The second option is private medical colleges. The tuition fees for management quota in private colleges ranges between Rs 10 lakhs to Rs 40 lakhs/annum. Kerala has the lowest fees of Rs 5 lakhs/annum but the seats are available only for Kerala students. Unlike deemed universities, the counselling for private colleges are conducted by the state authority. State government conducts counselling and if they cannot fill these seats, it will be handed over to the college. You have chance to get medical seat at the government prescribed fees if your participate in the state counselling. for example, tamilnadu govt prescribed tuition fees for management quota in private college is Rs 12.5 lakhs/annum. If you miss the state counselling for management seats, then you have to approach the private medical college to get MBBS seats where you have to pay additional donation along with the tuition fees. If you score is within 96 to 250, you have chance to get in the state counselling. The third option is studying medicine abroad in reputed medical colleges. A good abroad college should be atleast 25+ years old and should have produced atleast few hundreds of Indian doctors. Medical council of India has approved more than 400 colleges from various countries for Indian students to study medicine. The tuition fees for these colleges range between Rs 3 lakhs/annum to Rs 20 lakhs/annum based on the country and college. Keywords: Low NEET Score NEET SCore 96 to 250 options to study medicine with low score how to study mbbs when neet score is low low fees mbbs colleges neet score 96 neet score 100 neet score 250 low score mbbs colleges medical college for low score This Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ycbjfub_AGc Related Video: Low NEET Score 2018: 150 to 300 - Which Medical College You Will Get? - Options and Fees https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qGbm_Okbf8 NEET Score 96-250...which college you will get? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lz9obKKxyLA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w89bwnJUTOs Low NEET Score 96 - 200 : Medical Colleges to study MBBS with Low Budget https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsAiz7z65aY Low NEET Score/Cutoff - How to study medicine(MBBS) at govt prescribed lowest fees https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZmJpHXuTPw If you need guidance in choosing among these three options, then you can send whatsapp request "COUNSEL" along with your city, state and neet score to 99440 27211.

Almost 80% of the textbook industry is dominated by 5 publishing companies. They use restrictive codes and re-publish new versions of textbooks every 2 to 3 years. Due to these tactics, textbook costs overall have risen 67% from 2008 to 2018. ------------------------------------------------------ #Textbooks #College #BusinessInsider Business Insider tells you all you need to know about business, finance, tech, retail, and more. Subscribe to our channel and visit us at: https://read.bi/7XqUHI BI on Facebook: https://read.bi/2xOcEcj BI on Instagram: https://read.bi/2Q2D29T BI on Twitter: https://read.bi/2xCnzGF -------------------------------------------------- Why Are College Textbooks So Expensive? Following is a transcript of the video: So it’s the start of a brand new semester. Your teacher hands you your syllabus. And yup you’re going to spend $150 on a textbook for a class you don’t care about! Turns out, it's not unreasonable for some four year college students to spend close to $500 a year on textbooks. And it doesn’t seem like prices are coming down anytime soon. Textbook costs rose 67 percent from 2008 to 2018. Which is putting a serious strain on students wallets. But how did the college textbook publishing industry become so pricey? Almost 80 percent of the textbook industry is dominated by 5 major publishers. And they’re doing everything in their power to make sure that students keep buying new textbooks. To save money college students started buying used textbooks for cheaper or rented them from bookstores. But publishers took notice and started bundling new textbooks with special codes that restricted access. Forcing students to buy new textbooks at the full retail price. One study reported that 67% of students skip buying textbooks altogether because of rising prices and restrictive codes. And that’s not the only thing publishers have done to get students to buy new textbooks. There used to be a new edition update every five years. But now the production cycle has been shortened to two or three years. New editions have reordered chapters or changes in page numbers, making it harder to use older editions. And they can cost up to $150 more. But students have some other options to consider if they want to avoid expensive textbooks. Some schools are starting to use open source educational materials instead of traditional textbooks. That way, students can access open licensed texts, digital media and other learning materials for a fraction of the cost of textbooks. But the movement is still in its infancy. So far, only 6% of schools are using these open resources. It may be awhile before we see textbook prices drop any time soon. So for now, you may have to shell over $150 for a textbook you probably won’t read.

While college can be an ideal opportunity for academic, social, and professional development, many students enter the post-secondary environment either unprepared or unaware of the demands that it entails. Based on data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), there is both a decline in college completion rates and an increase in the time to graduate, making college a very expensive endeavor. Other good options exist - these include vocational/technical schools and apprenticeship programs for students who are not interested in an academic environment, doing volunteer work, joining the workforce, and community college degrees and programs for those who are not ready for the rigors that a 4 year college demands. To help students make the decision of whether or not to attend college and to make them aware of the challenges that higher education entails, we have designed a brochure that gives high school students many of the cold, hard facts of current college enrollment and completion rates and discuss some ideas for alternative options to college. If you're like me and already have children, you're probably already freaking out about how much college tuition is going to be costing you in the next five, ten, or fifteen years. I know that I have been freaking out because I've seen how much college has been going up ever since I got out. If you're in that same situation, let me introduce to you the 529 college savings plan. I am just going to share what exactly a 529 plan is. How does it work; how do you actually utilize it? What are the different types that are available to you, and then what are some of these flexibilities or benefits of using the 529 college savings plan in helping fund your kid's college education? First, what exactly is the 529 plan? First and foremost, don't get so wrapped up in the 5-2-9 numbers. Those just come from the IRS code when they came up with the name. The 529 college savings plan is a tax advantage savings and investment vehicle used purely, and I stress purely to save for your kid's college. By putting money into the college 529 savings plan, your contributions or money that you put in is all after tax. Then, whenever you go to pull that money out all the interest in the earnings that have accumulated from your contributions are completely tax free as long as you use those towards your kid's college education. Now that's important. If you end up pulling that money out for something other than college tuition or college-related expenses, you will be taxed and penalized on the interest earnings. But remember your contributions, the money that you put in are all after tax, so you can actually pull that money out at anytime and not incur any tax or penalties. If that sounds familiar it is very much like the Roth IRA, except this is purely used for college.

Watch more How to Get into College videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/217927-How-to-Transfer-from-Community-College-to-a-FourYear-University Starting at a community college before going to a four-year school makes good financial sense because the tuition is generally much lower. Keep a few things in mind if you want to make a switch. Step 1: Plan ahead Investigate the policies of four-year schools you'd like to attend. Some universities accept all transfer credits from accredited community colleges, while others will only take certain courses. And a few don't accept transfer credits at all. Tip Make sure your community college is accredited – universities only take credits from schools formally recognized by a regional, national, or professional agency. Verify this information at "ope.ed.gov/accreditation":http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation. Step 2: Talk to an adviser and a career counselor Talk to your adviser and a career counselor at your community college. They can make the process go more smoothly by providing a recommendation and explaining the details to you. Step 3: Take the basics If you don't know where you want to transfer when you start, make sure to sign up for courses at your community college that are likely to transfer for credit. For instance, nearly every university will take credits from English composition, lab sciences, and a nonremedial math class. Step 4: Think about a major Even if you haven't declared a major yet, narrow your interests to one field and take related courses. It will demonstrate to universities that you're focused. Step 5: Make the grade Keep your grades up – you'll need them to transfer to your university of choice. Some state schools offer guaranteed admission to students with high grade point averages from certain community colleges. Step 6: Meet with your top schools Contact the admissions offices of the schools you'd like to attend for information, and ask them exactly what you need to do to be considered. Step 7: Look into financial aid Check out all your options for loans, grants, and scholarships. Talk with the financial aid offices at all of the colleges you are seriously considering. Also, look online. Type "financial aid," your state, and the university into a search engine, or head to "fafsa.ed.gov":http://fafsa.ed.gov for federal aid options. Step 8: Apply When you have enough credits, apply for your transfer. All schools have different admission requirements and deadlines, but you'll likely have to fill out an application, provide copies of your high school and college transcripts, and submit recommendations. Have your adviser look over everything before sending it off. Good luck! Did You Know? Twenty-two percent of the nation's two-year public college students are enrolled in California.

ALL RIGHTS BELONG TO THEIR RESPECTIVE OWNERS* So middle of last year, I posted a video talking about Gonzaga’s Rui Hachimura, a Japanese college phenom who I believed had the potential to the first legit NBA star out of Japan. I’m proud to say that video has aged quite well since Hachimura has had the breakout junior year I predicted and is now looking like a soon to be a lottery pick in next years draft. If you have your doubts just go back and watch the Zags win over Duke. With the success of that video considered, I wanted to see if I could find more basketball prodigies from Asia specifically, who are simply on another level compared to the players in their own country. Kevin was Born in Shenyang, China, in an athletic friendly environment. His mother, Wang Fang, earned a silver medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and the 1994 World Championships in Sydney as a member of the Chinese women’s basketball team and coached the national team at the 2008 Olympics. Zhang arrived in the U.S. back in 2013 as a 14-year-old where he was described as “A model for the future of China basketball. Even though he was only a 3-star recruit, Zhang has experience practicing with the Chinese National Team on multiple occasions and as recent as this summer. He’s also had experience at elite high school programs, such as La Lumiere in his first three years, where he played alongside last year lottery pick of Jaren Jackson Jr. In his final season with La Lumiere, Zhang became one of the first Chinese players to win a high-level high school hoops tournament. After a win over Montverde Academy, arguably the best team in the nation who he actually joined for his in his final season. On the year, they went a perfect 35-0 on the season and captured their third straight national championship equivalent. Post his senior year, Zhang earned offers from multiple high major colleges, from notable programmes such as UCLA, DePaul, BYU and Kansas State and others. He was considered the best Chinese prospect in the U.S. who could start a trend for Chinese players to start playing college hoops. With all options considered, Zhang decided to take his talents to Tulane University, and he’s got his freshman year underway in the 2018-19 season. Kevin made a statement on his college debut, scoring 24 points with 4 three-pointers in against a nationally ranked team in Florida State. Through the first 12 games of his career, he is averaging 6 points and 2 rebounds in 20 minutes per game, shooting 40% from the field and 35% from the perimeter., He scored in double figures for the second time against Georgia State, scoring 23 points on 9-17 shooting. While the numbers are nothing sensational, they’re impressive for a freshman who’s started just 50% of those guys. Not to mention No other Chinese-born player has seen this kind of success in NCAA Division I basketball before. Zhang had exploded onto the scene with a red-hot start but has gone through a slump of late. Which is common amongst freshman’s, he hasn’t made more than one field goal since December 5th. He claims to be recovering from an elbow injury, which against he decided to play through anyway. As a player, Zhang is a 6’9 hybrid forward, a very well-rounded player who has experience playing at the highest level of high school, college and international basketball. Kevin's unique skill set of mobility, ball-handling, and scoring will fit into his team’s space and pace style of play. Overall his biggest strengths are his ability to shoot the ball from distance and get his teammates involved with high-level passes. Kevin Zhang isn’t someone that’s gonna be one and done. He’s a multi-year year college project, with a potential to become an NBA player. And obviously will be a lot more than that, to his home country of China. Few players from China have chosen to go through the U.S. basketball system, from high school to college and hopefully the NBA. The only other Asian college star who comes to mind is Jeremy Lin, Whether Zhang ends up making it to the league or not, he’s paving the way for Chinese prospects just like him, and will more than likely go down as the best Chinese basketball player to ever set foot in the NCAA.
