This video will look at Remote Assistance and Remote Desktop. Remote Assistance is designed to provide help to the user in the same way that they would get help from someone if the person were looking over their shoulder so to speak. Check out http://YouTube.com/ITFreeTraining or http://itfreetraining.com for more of our always free training videos. Remote Desktop is designed to allow a user to take complete control of their P.C. from remote. For example they could access their computer from home. Remote Assistance: 0:13 Remote Desktop: 05:58 Remote Assistance This allows anther user to connect up to your computer in order to provide assistance. This can be done through an invitation or via easy connect. An invitation is a file that can opened, e-mail through to the second party. Easy connect is a system that can directly contact the second user, it does however require IPv6. To configure remote assistance, open the control panel, system and security and under system select allow remote access. The system properties will then open. Ensure that allow remote assistance connections to this computer is ticked. In the advanced options you can configure if the remote user can take control of the desktop and also how long it will take for the remote assistance invitation to expire. In order for the remote user to control the desktop permission still need to be given from the local user. In order to start using remote assistance, run it from the start menu and generate an invitation or ask someone for help. If you generate an invitation you will be given a password. That password will need to be given to the other party in order for them to connect. Remote assistance no longer provides voice capable but does have text chat option. Remote Desktop Remote desktop allows you to take control of your computer from remote. It is different from remote assistance in that when you connect up to the computer the desktop of the computer is locked. Using Remote Desktop you could potential have two users using the same computer at the same time. For this reason this is why the desktop is locked when anther user connects. To use the Remote Desktop client, you can be running any version of Windows 7. You can also use operating systems like Windows Vista and Windows XP. The computer however that you are connecting up to must be running Windows 7 professional or above. To configure Remote Desktop, open the control panel, select system and security and then under system select allow remote access. On the remote tab of the system properties, the remote Desktop settings are at the bottom. If you are using an older client to connect to the computer like Windows XP, you need to select the option allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop. This does use a less secure protocol. At the bottom of the screen, you can press the select user's button to add additional users that will be able to access this computer, remember that Administrators by default will be able to use Remote Desktop. Once you run Remote Desktop you will have the option to the save the Remote Desktop settings to a file. This file at any time you can edit. Under the experience tab there are default profiles that are designed for different networks. For example Lan's and Wan's networks. These options will change the number of colors used and settings like the background being visible. If you experience slow or sluggish performance from Remote Desktop you should change some of these settings. Remote Desktop also supports clipboard transferring between the local and remote computer. If you want to transfers file between the remote and local computer, Remote Desktop can map your local driver so they appear in Windows Explorer in Remote Desktop. See http://YouTube.com/ITFreeTraining or http://itfreetraining.com for are always free training videos. This is only one video from the many free courses available on YouTube.

Description: In the episode Eli the Computer Guy discusses Remote Desktop Software usage in the real world. He talks about business aspects of using Remote software to support clients, things to think about when selecting Remote Support Software, and known issues that you can run into when you deploy Remote Desktop Software in the real world. Notes: Windows Remote Desktop and VNC are widely used free solutions. LogMeIn, Citrix Go to My PC and Teamviewer are pay for versions of Remote Desktop Software Teamviewer is a very good option, BUT for commercial use you need to pay for a license VNC Single Click allows you to have your clients click a link on your website and your computer will be able to control theirs like LogMeIn Rescue or Citrix Go to Assist. It works great 90% of the time... You have to decide whether your time is more valuable then your money. Eli didn't think twice to pay $120 per month for LogMeIn Rescue because it always did what it was supposed to do. LogMeIn and Citrix allow you to easily connect to systems without worrying about Firewalls, Routers and Port Forwarding. With VNC or Remote Desktop you will manually have to configure network settings Remote Desktop Software is an invaluable tool for administering Virtualized Servers Charging clients for remote support can be a mine field. If you go to their site they will easily pay $100 for your work, where as if you fix the same problem remotely they may complain about a $25 bill. (At the end of the day you have to pay your mortgage...)

Read more/comment at https://TinkerTry.com/how-to-shutdown-or-restart-windows-over-rdp These instructions apply to the following operating systems: Windows 7 Windows 8/8.1 Windows 10 The *Shut down* and *Restart* options are removed from the Start Menu when you’re connected using Remote Desktop (aka Terminal Services). These intentional omissions protect you from yourself, since there's a risk when doing such power operations remotely. If something goes wrong, you're presumably not there to fix it. That assumption isn't always true for home labs or VMs. This video is for sysadmins who know better, wanting to *Shut down* or *Restart* (or even enter *Sleep*) over RDP anyway! ;-)

Problem Description: Remote desktop is not displayed in Full-Screen mode when the screen resolution is 1366×768 pixels in Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2 Solution: As an alternative solution you can try ‘Cntrl+Alt+Pause Break’ to switch to Full Screen mode when the problem is occurring. Step 1: Install 32bit/64bit latest graphics (display) driver of the hardware model from manufacturer’s website. Restart the system. Step 2: Go to “C:\Users\[User ID]\Documents”. Show hidden files and folders (Organize - Folder and search options - View - Show hidden files, folders and drives) Delete 'Default.rdp' file. Step 3: Open Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) from the system. Go to ‘Options’ - ‘Display’ In 'Display Configuration' increase the size from Small to Large (Full Screen) In 'Colors' select Color depth of remote session other than 'Highest Quality (32bit)'. Make sure that screen resolution is selected as 1366x768. Try to connect using Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) now. Thank You

Enabling Remote Desktop [ Special thanks to darkoperator getgui script ] "Let's look at another situation where Metasploit makes it very easy to backdoor the system using nothing more than built-in system tools. We will utilize Carlos Perez's 'getgui' script, which enables Remote Desktop and creates a user account for you to log into it with. Utilization of this script could not be easier"... Windows 8 Remote Desktop Best Guide!! Setting up a remote desktop is surprisingly easy, and it does not matter what sort of Operating System the computer uses. Remote desktops are incredibly versatile, and if a computer operates on Windows XP or higher, then it is automatically configured to be able to use a remote connection, although for business applications we would recommend using a secure, branded remote control software solution. The setup is not at all confusing and a computer expert is not required to set it up properly. The following steps are all that are necessary to connect to another desktop. Step 1: Prepare the Host To prepare the host computer, begin to set up a remote desktop by going to Add or Remove Programs. From there, it is necessary to go to Add/Remove Windows Components, and view the details for the Internet Information Services option; this will lead to a sub-component, World Wide Web Service, and its details. Within its sub-components, the check box for which should be marked "OK." This opens Windows Component Wizard; follow through to completion, which results in the installation of the appropriate web server. Once finished, return to Internet Services Manager, find "/tsweb," go to its properties, go to Directory Security, click "edit," make sure "anonymous access" is checked for Authentication Methods, and then hit "OK" twice. Step 2: Configure a Remote Connection Now it is time to configure the access for the host computer, which involves going to the control panel once more. From there, go to Performance and Maintenance and then go to the icon for the System. Go to the "Remote" tab, where options for the remote desktop are found; the option for allowing users to remotely access the computer should be checked. It may be necessary to assign passwords for anyone else who will be using the remote PC. To allow other users access to the remote computer, go to "Select Remote Users."
