Independent Living - Options for Community Living

03:11
The Options for Community Living Program is a community-based supported living model of services implemented to meet the needs of individuals with developmental/physical disabilities. Individuals receive supports while residing in accessible apartments in eastern Massachusetts communities. The service model resembles that of independent living programs with additional supports to address skill areas which an individual cannot presently manage independently. Successful Community Living for People with Developmental Disabilities

01:21:49
(Visit: http://www.uctv.tv/) Dr. Clarissa Kripke explores progress made in community living for people with developments disabilities. She explains that the Lanterman Act has been enormously successful by establishing an entitlement to community‐based services and supports for Californians with developmental disabilities of all ages. Today, most adults with developmental disabilities are living independently with supports or with family. People with disabilities want full acceptance. They want full access to community life, and the opportunity to direct their own lives. Recorded on 11/13/2014. #18.4 Retirement and Independent Living Communities: Housing Options for Seniors (4 of 6)

06:59
Independent living communities are designed for seniors who are able to live on their own, but desire the security and the conveniences of community living. These communities are also called by other names, such as Retirement Communities, Active 55 Plus Communities, Congregate Living or Senior Apartments. There are some questions your parents should ask themselves before they move into an independent living community, which are covered in this video.

Senior Living Options

01:46
Many seniors are resistant to even the notion of moving from their own home and independence and refuse to talk about their future care and alternative senior living options. Maybe it's because their view of senior care is outdated. Thankfully, today's seniors have fantastic alternatives for living out the golden years of their life. Here are a few options for senior living, thanks to Alternatives for Seniors. First, there's in-home care, such as home care agencies and adult day care or respite care. Home care agencies can help with companion care and assistance with daily tasks, and adult day care or respite care provides a break for families who take care of their parents or grandparents. There are also independent and assisted living facilities, which provide seniors with a great community and a level of care based on their needs. Nursing homes or long-term care facilities offer the highest level of care outside of a hospital, offering round-the-clock medical staff for high-needs seniors. And finally, Alzheimer's or memory care facilities provide a safe, secure place for loved ones suffering from dementia and memory loss. And perhaps the most inclusive is the Continuing Care Retirement Community or Life Care Community, which offers multiple levels of care, from independent and assisted living to nursing care. That eases the transition for seniors, and provides flexibility based on their needs. For more information on the types of senior care available, contact us at (888) 743-9928 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or visit http://www.alternativesforseniors.com/ to begin searching for the perfect home for you or your loved ones. Top 5 Tiny House Heating Options for Winter Living - Off Grid & On Grid

09:15
We're sharing the best options for heating a tiny house, the pros and cons of each heat source, and the product links below if you want to learn more! Thumbnail photo by Donald Lebel from Domaine Floravie. Domaine Floravie is an incredible tiny house resort on the shore of the St Lawrence River near Rimouski, Quebec. To learn more, visit their website here: www.domainefloravie.com Choosing a heating option for your tiny house can be overwhelming. There are so many options out there! To start, you'll want to ensure you have a well insulated tiny house, and an HRV system (heat recovery ventilation) to ensure you're always getting fresh air in your house without losing precious heat energy. Next, you'll want to use a BTU (British Thermal Unit) calculator to enter the climate and volume details for your tiny house so you can find out how big or small your heating system needs to be. At this point, it's a good idea to also decide if you want to be on the grid, off the grid, or have the ability to do both. Once you have this information, you can start considering options like a wood stove or fireplace, a propane heater, electric baseboard or wall heater, a solar air heater, or in-floor radiant heat. We've included links below for the heating systems we've seen used in tiny houses we've visited over the past few years. We're not sponsored by any of these companies.
