12 HIDDEN SECRETS in Central Park | New York City

07:59
I run in Central Park almost every day (in fact I've run #everypath a few times), and along the way I've found quite a few hidden secrets. Here's a list of my top 12 secrets of Central Park. And along the way, 12 random facts about the Park too. If you liked these, be sure to check out my 12 Hidden Secrets in BRYANT PARK: https://youtu.be/tFuoWREu4QU The secrets and facts are organized by geography. I start in the Southeast corner of the Park and end in the Northwest corner. You can follow my path, all 6.3 miles, here: http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/1290896362 12 Secrets: 1. Hallett Nature Sanctuary - Be sure to check the schedule here: Central Park Conservancy website: http://www.centralparknyc.org/things-to-see-and-do/attractions/hallett-nature-sanctuary.html?referrer=https://www.google.com/ My other video on the Sanctuary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYfKVkYB9FM Precise Location: (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Hallett+Nature+Sanctuary/@40.7666397,-73.9750243,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x1cc31411348799ba!8m2!3d40.7666397!4d-73.9750243) 2. Sri Lanka amongst 31 places to travel in 2010 - New York Times

00:56
Sri Lanka has been listed as the number one destination to travel in 2010 by New York Times, in its 10th January, 2010 edition. Sri Lanka is reviewed by New York Times travel writer Lionel Beehner in The 31 Places to go in 2010. He has said that the conclusion of the war has opened the eyes of the world to this island off Indias coast, rich in natural beauty and cultural splendors. Featuring some of the most sought after natural attractions that the country boasts of, the writer also highlighted some of the upcoming development projects that would add more convenience to the travellers. The review has placed the Nilaveli Beach in the East amongst the most scenic locations. It has also mentioned about the international airport that is being built in the South along with the many resorts that are springing up along the coastline in the South as well as the East. --- For a quarter century, Sri Lanka seems to have been plagued by misfortune, including a brutal civil war between the Sinhalese-dominated government and a separatist Tamil group. But the conflict finally ended last May, ushering in a more peaceful era for this teardrop-shaped island off India's coast, rich in natural beauty and cultural splendors. The island, with a population of just 20 million, feels like one big tropical zoo: elephants roam freely, water buffaloes idle in paddy fields and monkeys swing from trees. And then there's the pristine coastline. The miles of sugary white sand flanked by bamboo groves that were off-limits to most visitors until recently are a happy, if unintended byproduct of the war. Among the most scenic, if difficult stretches to reach, is Nilaveli Beach in the Tamil north. While a few military checkpoints remain, vacationers can lounge on poolside hammocks under palm trees or snorkel in its crystal-clear waters. Or they can order cocktails at the Nilaveli Beach Hotel (www.tangerinehotels.com/nilavelibeach), a collection of recently renovated bungalows with private terraces. An international airport in Matara, on the island's southern shore, is under construction, which will make the gorgeous beaches near the seaside village of Galle easier to get to. Decimated by the tsunami in 2004, the surrounding coastline is now teeming with stylish guesthouses and boutique hotels. 50 THINGS TO DO IN NEW YORK CITY | Top Attractions Travel Guide

16:36
Our recent week in New York City was an action-packed one. We decided to set ourselves a challenge to see and do as much as we possibly could, and that gave way to this travel video guide which highlights 50 of the top attractions. In a city like New York this means we barely scratched the surface, but hopefully this video will highlight the cornucopia of possibilities that is the Big Apple. If you only have time to visit only one city in the United States it ought to be NYC, USA: http://nomadicsamuel.com/photo-essays/50-things-to-do-in-new-york-city 50 Things to do in New York City Top Attractions Travel Guide: 1 Grand Central Terminal 2 The High Line 3 Meatpacking District 4 Greenwich Village 5 Brooklyn Bridge 6 Williamsburg 7 Street Art in Williamsburg 8 Prospect Park 9 Dumbo 10 New York Style Pizza 11 Bryant Park 12 New York Public Library 13 Staten Island Ferry 14 Statue of Liberty 15 Battery Park 16 Little Italy 17 Little Korea 18 Chinatown 19 Coney Island 20 Mermaid Parade 21 The Cloisters 22 Harlem's Apollo Theatre 23 Soul Food in Harlem at Sylvia's 24 World Trade Center Memorial 25 Trinity Church 26 Wall Street 27 Lincoln Center 28 Ride a Bicycle 29 Watch a New York Yankees baseball game at Yankee Stadium 30 MET Museum (Metropolitan Museum of Art) 31 Flatiron Building 32 Washington Square Park 33 NYU (New York University) 34 National Museum of the American Indian 35 Museum of Natural History 36 Times Square 37 MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) 38 Roosevelt Island Tramway 39 Fifth Avenue Shopping 40 Rockefeller Center 41 Empire State Building 42 Carnegie Hall 43 Central Park 44 Strawberry Fields 45 Street Food 46 Catch a Broadway Theatre Performance 47 Madison Square Garden 48 African Burial Ground 49 Columbus Circle 50 Take the Subway Metro Most journeys begin at Penn Station or Grand Central, and if you arrive at the later you'll be wowed by the building. The Meatpacking District was once home to markets, slaughterhouses, and packaging plants, but times have changed. Today you'll find a mixture of trendy restaurants, clubs and boutiques. The Village used to be a bohemian neighborhood that drew artists and musicians, but today you're more likely to find upper middle class families living here. Completed in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge is one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. Williamsburg has become popular given its lower rent prices. University students and young professionals have been flocking to this part of town. You can walk along the riverfront for a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges and the Manhattan skyline. During the summer months, Bryant Park also becomes a popular hangout spot people looking to relax and even work on their tans. The Staten Island Ferry is free of charge and this makes it really popular with visitors who want to catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance. Battery Park is located on the southern tip of Manhattan. Having both lived in South Korea, we were thrilled to come across Manhattan's own Little Korea. Coney Island is all about good old fashioned fun. The Cloisters will make you feel like you've travelled over to Europe. Central Park is massive and there are so many places to visit within its boundaries. We managed to visit Belvedere Castle, the Great Lawn, Shakespeare Garden, The Ramble, The Jackie Onassis Reservoir, the Alice in Wonderland Statue, and we still left feeling like we barely scratched the surface. And that concludes a look at our very busy week in New York City. I'm still shocked we managed to cover so many attractions, but the great thing about this city is that distances aren't very long and there's always something really cool worth checking out around each corner. Have you been to New York? What are your favorite things about this city? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below. Sample New York Times IELTS Study Plan

05:01
Today you’ll get a sample New York Times IELTS study plan for weekly test preparation. Visit ielts.allearsenglish.com for the simplest and most effective IELTS strategies. We’ve mentioned before that reading the newspaper, especially a high-level one such as the New York Times, is a must in IELTS preparation. You may think this is mainly to improve your reading comprehension, but that’s only one of the benefits. The chief gain in reading the newspaper is to add to your ideas for Speaking and Writing, and, additionally, to enlarge your vocabulary. When I went to the homepage of the Times this week, www.nytimes.com, there were 17 sections listed at the top. 17! Your goal is to read an article from a different section each time you visit the page. Keep in mind, though, that the New York Times only allows you to read 10 free articles per month, so, when those run out, you can switch to reading The Guardian and The Washington Post. Sample IELTS Newspaper Study Plan: Monday: Science section, Barbra Streisand Cloned Dog, For $50,000 You Can Clone Yours (IELTS topics: science, future, technology, celebrities) Wednesday: Travel section, How to Travel with Children (IELTS topics: parenting, family, travel) Friday: Opinion section, Our Newest Culture Warriors: Activist C.E.O.s (IELTS topics: opinion, government, culture, business) Remember, though, to pass the IELTS Reading Exam, you not only need to understand what you read, but, mostly, you need time-saving reading strategies, such as those in our course! In our online IELTS course, 3 Keys IELTS, we give you all the strategies and practice you need to score highly on all parts of the IELTS exam. Check out our online course now, the only one with a guaranteed score increase, at allearsenglish.com/keys.

New York Times Identifies The Real Threat To Guam

00:49
This week the island of Guam has been in the media, amid the continuing challenges in relations between the U.S. and North Korea. In a new article published by the New York Times observers lament that the island has bigger problems looming beyond the possibility of an attack from North Korea, climate change. Climate change is likely to bring about "shifts in weather, temperature and oceanic acidity, " so says the Environmental Protection Agency. Analyst who have spoken on the issue say in the coming years, increased heat waves, tropical storms and the destruction of Guams coral reefs, could lead to people suffering heat stress, while also adversely affecting the Islands travel industry, which currently boast $1.4billion in revenue from the tourism sector. http://www.redstate.com/streiff/2017/08/11/new-york-times-identifies-real-threat-guam-isnt-north-korean-nukes/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

In other words, New York has a unique personality of its own and is a place that everyone should visit at least once in their life. Whether you are enjoying a spot of shopping, strolling through Central Park, experiencing the money buildings on Wall Street or just relaxing over brunch at one of the city's many diners, New York has something for everyone. Once you have experienced this amazing city you will want to return time and time again, each time discovering something new. You can experience all the major suburbs by foot, cab or bus. From Little Italy to Brooklyn and Chinatown to Manhattan, there is so much to explore and discover. Eating out is an experience in itself, with thousands of restaurants you will be absolutely spoilt for choice. Favourites include Diner which is a converted dining car, Chat 'n' Chew where friends congregate for a good old 'chin-wag' over a huge Holy Cow burger or some delicious macaroni cheeses and not forgetting the New York institute which is the 21 Club. Manhattan The oldest of the five boroughs of New York City, Manhattan is the main commercial, financial and cultural centre of the USA. Manhattan has many famous landmarks, attractions, museums and universities. The other four boroughs are the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. The Bronx This is the only borough that is located primarily on the mainland. Preview Loreto Baja Video (Loreto came in #8 in the New York Times list of top places to go in 2011)

Loreto came in #8 in the New York Times list of top places to go in 2011 8. Loreto, Mexico A beach hideaway with sport fishing gets a luxury resort. Long known for sport fishing, Loreto, on Baja California Sur's eastern coast, is poised to become one of Mexico's next luxury destinations. Loreto also has longstanding attractions to tout. It recently started a public relations campaign, with help from the Mexico Tourism Board, to highlight its colonial architecture, deserted beaches and marine life. Founded in 1697 by Jesuit missionaries, Loreto is home to the historic Mission of Our Lady Loreto, one of the first "California" missions. The baroque Mission of San Javier can be found nearby in the Sierra de la Giganta Mountains. Visitors can take day trips to see prehistoric rock art in the Sierra de San Francisco region of Baja California between Loreto and Bahia de Los Angeles. Five islands that make up the Loreto Bay National Marine Park, which covers 797 square miles in the Sea of Cortez, offer extensive snorkeling, kayaking, hiking, whale-watching and scuba-diving opportunities. The area is home to more than 800 species of marine life, including six-foot-long Humboldt squid. — MICHELLE HIGGINS Read the whole article here: http://travel.nytimes.com/2011/01/09/travel/09where-to-go.html info at [email protected]
