Biggest Palladium Deposits Found In Philippines
Read full story: http://www.okd2.com/biggest-palladium-deposits-discovered-off-coasts-romblon-negros-panay-islands/ Philippines could be one of the richest countries in Asia, following the discovery of the world’s biggest Palladium reserve off the coasts of Negros, Panay, Mindoro, and Romblon Islands, south of Luzon. NASA, together with USGS, (United States Geological Survey), released a 3-year study report detailing the 8,450 square kilometer palladium deposits lying below the seas of Visayan, Sibuyan, and Tablas Strait. Current biggest producer of Palladium is Russia with 44%, followed by Africa with 40%, and the rest are from Canada and US. If the Philippine government allows foreign investors to dig and mine the palladium deposits, the country can expect around $9.8B a year in net profit, report said. The Philippine Clearing House Mechanism is a website that provides relevant information on the Convention on Biological Diversity in the country. It is established as part of the Philippine commitment to the CBD to promote and facilitate technical and scientific cooperation among the various stakeholders on biodiversity in the country. It contains national biodiversity-related information that is required to assist policy makers and interested stakeholders to meet obligations under the Convention and to conserve and sustainably use biodiversity. It also aims to facilitate the sharing of data and information between and among various stakeholders on biodiversity in the Philippines. Thus, regular inflow of information from partners and stakeholders is necessary to maintain the content of the PCHM. It operates through an information technology-based network called the BIOWEB.PH established through a Memorandum of Agreement among different biodiversity partners. Sharing of information is done through a web-based information system. To read more, click: http://www.chm.ph/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=399&Itemid=53

By resource is meant any physical entity, which has limited availability. These resources occur in their natural form. Few examples of natural resources are: •Air, wind and atmosphere •Plants (Flora) •Animals (Fauna) •Agronomy (the science of using plants for food, fuel, feed and fiber) •Wildlife •Forestry and Agroforestry •Coal and fossil fuels •Range and pasture •Soils •Water, oceans, lakes and rivers Something that people generally arent aware of, is that everything we use in everyday life are derived from natural resources, for example, milk which comes from cows - animals are a natural resource. We use water, food and vegetables that comes from plants, salt which is a mineral are some of the other natural resources. Wood that we get from tree is a natural resource. It can be used to build a house, make paper, burn in fireplaces and in stoves for cooking, etc. Man utilizes these resources in various ways. These resources are processed further so as to be made suitable for our needs. The table below is an example that shows in what way the resources have been utilized. Natural wealth revenues for a green, inclusive economy in the Philippines
As of 2009, despite the country's last decade positive economic growth, 26.5% of its population or 25 million Filipinos were still living under the poverty line. 75% of those were living in rural or mar- ginalized areas. They depend disproportionately on natural resources and are thus more vulnerable to environmental degradation. Mining industries and renewable energy generation represent a clear link between poverty and environment. Although nat- ural resources have been identified nationally as an important growth driver and the country is 5th most mineral-rich in the world, this sector has yet to con- tribute significantly to economic growth and human development.
Market Empire: The U.S., the Philippines & Natural Resource Management
The importation of tropical products from the Caribbean and the Pacific accompanied the growth of American industrial development in the early twentieth century. While the new demand for tropical fruits, woods, and products dramatically altered tropical ecosystems and contributed to food shortages in what is today called the "global south," it also encouraged the development of an ethic of natural resource management and conservation. By focusing on the work of American agricultural scientists, foresters, and chemists during the U.S. occupation of the Philippines (1898-1936), Theresa Ventura shows how science was integral to the emergence of the United States as a world power; the influence of Philippine knowledge on environmental and nutritional knowledge; and the often devastating impact of conservation and land management programs on indigenous communities. Speaker Biography: Theresa Ventura is an assistant professor of history at Concordia University in Montreal. 31st Anniversary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (Speech)
Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife, Quezon City July 4, 2018 President Rodrigo Roa Duterte graced the 31st founding anniversary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) at the Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) Amphitheater, Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife in Quezon City. The President, together with DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu, led the ceremonial awarding of land titles under the Handog Titulo Program to the representatives of 75 beneficiaries in Metro Manila. The celebration had the theme, ‘Ikaw, Ako, Tayo ang Kalikasan’, putting emphasis on everyone's responsibility to prevent and protect the environment from damage. In his speech, the Chief Executive sent a strong warning against open-pit mining operations. “There will be a time, I still have time left, that I will have to ban open-pit mining,” said the President, further stressing that the practice is destroying the lands and creating landslides near the area of open-pit mining operations. DENR Secretary Cimatu, in his welcome remarks, praised the lawmakers who authored Republic Act 11038 or the Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System (E-NIPAS) Act that seeks to strengthen the government’s goal to protect the environment by providing mobilization of resources and the preservation and sustainability of the ecosystem by allowing more room for technical and scientific support. “The E-NIPAS Law has added 94 additional legislated protected areas all over the Philippines, and in short, better conservation and protection measures in our protected areas,” Secretary Cimatu said. To further demonstrate the DENR’s thrust, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed by Secretary Cimatu turning over the 871,453 board feet of confiscated lumber to Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) Head, Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario, for the rehabilitation of Marawi City. Former DENR Secretaries also attended the ceremony, commemorating the agency's major milestones since its reorganization into a Department in 1987. Nearing the end of the program, President Duterte led the celebratory singing for Secretary Roy Cimatu’s birthday. *** Connect with RTVM Website: http://rtvm.gov.ph Facebook: www.facebook.com/presidentialcom and www.facebook.com/rtvmalacanang Twitter: @RTVMalacanang Google+: google.com/+RTVMalacanang
