Regan Gold Mine - Oregon - 2016

10:43
From 1902 to 1941, the Regan Mine was a lucrative operation, mostly run by small miners. In 1939, the mine was reportedly bought by the Paymaster Mining Company for over $200,000, but was soon shut down due to the War Act. The Regan mine is massive and its workings are relatively untouched. Currently, there is an abundance of processing equipment on the claim, including a crusher, a shaker, and a smelter. There is also a year round supply of water on the claim. This claim is perfect for small operations, which could grow into larger operations as the veins and deposits are further explored.

Everything that is produced ultimately comes from the earth. If it isn't grown, it's mined. This program includes interviews with miners and geologists, discussing the types of minerals found in Oregon, their uses in our daily lives, and the impacts of state regulations and federal land withdrawals on the mining industry. It also includes demonstrations of gold panning and highbanking.

State Police Interrupt a Gold Mining Operation in Oregon!

15:39
Our mining claim neighbors called the Cops! People living on the other side of the river where our mining claim is and not liking our mining, called the cops. It appears our neighbors just did not want their liberal utopia disturbed so they call the cops to harass us. The police were very cool as I knew one of them from checking our permits on another river couple months earlier and an Oregon DEQ meeting he showed up at. The rude lady yells to at from other side of river "you need a permit to do that"...we had them of course. She also told cops we were disrespecful and rude to her...which was totally false. She made up her own narrative about what was happening to justify her being annoyed. Liberal tactic # 3, change the narrative or just plain lie! This is the short version of the video, filmed on the Applegate River in Oregon while we were LEGALLY GOLD MINING! In the video, it is a continuous video, shot on my GoPro camera that I was wearing on my head. The video shows me mining and moving around with no editing to show what actually goes on while mining. Then my buddy is helping me move rocks while I'm using a sub-surface dredge...then the cops show up , and I tell him is where the action starts. UPDATE Jan 1st, 2015: In response to some of the comments saying we are uneducated, rednecks and other stuff...the guys in the video are as follows. One is a millionaire CPA, another a self employed business owner, two others are also self employed and owns a body shop and the other an internet marketer and freelance videographer, and lastly one is the son of the CPA guy and currently in college. Oregon Mining Law: Next time this happens, I will ask the State Police to cite the offending people who disrupt our mining operation based on this Oregon Mining Law: "ORS 517.133 Interfering with a mining operation. (1) As used in this section, "lawful mining operation" means any small scale mining operation that is in full compliance with state and federal laws. (2) A person commits the crime of interfering with a mining operation if the person intentionally: (a) Interferes with a lawful mining operation; or (b) Stops, or causes to be stopped, a lawful mining operation. (3) Interfering with a mining operation is a Class C misdemeanor. [1999 c.354 §6]" Here is the GoPro camera I was using: http://amzn.to/19yYus6

Oregon Beach mining Trip#2

02:43
I return to the beach with additional equipment (sluice, water hose to bring water to the sluice, bigger shovel, more buckets, etc.) I think I made a mistake by digging in a different spot that I thought would have better (larger) gold because it was where the water dropped out of the culvert. I ended up with gold but not anything heavier.

Oregon Opal Vein!

05:43
I took the family to Juniper Mountain for some fire opal digging. I would usually make a lot more effort to work around the opal and get out larger pieces without damaging them but it was getting late and we had to go. Edit: After all the well deserved criticism I believe I should add a bit more- I usually make a lot more effort to carefully extract the material. I know as well as you that value increases exponentially with size. The thing here though is that in my experience all of the opal in these thin surface veins is typically very unstable. Only in the larger veins do I find material with the right hydration to remain craze free. This is based on years of experience spending time doing exactly what you suggest only to see it turn into bits all by itself in the open air. I could keep it wet but my goal is really to identify the more stable material in order to provide that higher quality product. There's also the time factor. This was later in the day, near sunset. I had worked patiently and carefully all around that vein for hours to get it as exposed as it was. You're right, someone else will come along and get it out. Not in one piece though. This is my own federal mining claim that I pay fees on each year. I would much rather get it out the way I did in the video and go home with something as opposed to seeing it completely gone the next weekend. Several times I've left exposed opal only to return to evidence that someone MASSACRED it. You think I pulverize it? Wait til you see how the claim jumpers leave it- tiny shards and white powder all over the hole. I totally understand where you're coming from, I do. I don't think you fully appreciate or understand my situation though. Regardless, you're all totally welcome to come dig your own material and show me how it's done. Absolutely free, no charges or fees. Jamie Lant on Facebook. Send me a PM. Or email [email protected] I certainly don't profess to be an expert. I'm learning as I go, like the rest of us. After all, realize I'm sitting on a mountain of the stuff. :)

Lode Mining in SW Oregon

03:32
Removing a nice Limonite vein in the back of an old Gold Mine in Oregon. The host rock is Argillite (meta-volcanic mudstone), where a shear fault has allowed a fissure to occur, with multiple Quartz veins, Limonite seam, Calcite veins, and lots of Pyrite and Arsenopyrite. The Calcite neutralizes the acids in the Mesothermal fluids during deposition, allowing for the gold and other metals (Pyrites) to be deposited. As those pyrites oxidize over time, the sulfur can then form sulfurous acid w/ rain water, which can cause the metals to redeposits farther down in the vein (Supergene Enrichment). This portal is below the areas of heavy oxidation, and the gold found is large, usually over 10 mesh.

Pounds and Pounds of Gold: I Mined Gold at Sterling Creek Mine | Glenn Wadstein

37:54
Glenn Wadstein mined Sterling Creek Mine from 1986-2001 and found pounds and pounds of gold. He built his own equipment and treated the job as a sand and gravel operation. Here's the equipment he built, the way he moved overburden to reveal the ore and how he processed the ore to filter out the gold. Wadstein took this video in 1986 at the outset of the mining operation, edited it into a clear and descriptive narrative and then converted the video to digital format in 2017. Wadstein narrated the video on October 22, 2017 at the Ashland Literary Arts Festival held Hannon Library, Southern Oregon University. Thank you National Endowment for the Humanities Common Heritage program http://www.neh.gov for funding this video series and the image collection found at http://soda.sou.edu

Eastern Oregon Gold Mining May 2013

05:37
Dredging with the 4 inch in a small creek in Eastern Oregon. We spent a week in this hole, and uncovered a big trench in the bedrock. Unfortunately this claim has been heavily worked, and we didn't get much gold. A little under a half ounce. This was a fun trip to a club claim, but we didn't hit the mother lode (yet)!

Mother Lode Mining Claim - Oregon - 2016

08:11
The Mother Lode claim is rare in that it has been worked for both gold and cinnabar. Gold and cinnabar samples are extremely rare and can sell for up to four times the price of gold alone. This claim has an entire processing site that is mostly intact. This includes a crusher, a shaker, and a mill, all in incredible shape. The mine itself will need to be cleared. The entrance will require some digging to access. It is estimated there is between 1800 to 2000 feet of workings on the main level of the mine. The Mother Lode began production in 1906 but was most recently worked in the 1960's for gold, all while the cinnabar processing mill stood idle.

Oregon Gold: Bohemia Mountain Gold Mining District

19:37
Bohemia Mountain is a gold mining district in Oregon. In this video I tell history of Bohemia while showing what the Oregon gold mines look like today. Bohemia was part of the gold rush in the 18/1900s. There are tons of gold mine remains around this area. I was very excited to create my second oregon gold video. It took me a few trips to film everything. No complaints because this area is huge and there is always something new to see. Entering the gold mines was very dangerous. I wouldn't recommend it. I am happy to show you what the gold mines are like so you don't have to enter. What Oregon gold mine content would you like to see next? A brief tour of the Quartzville Mining Corridor, with stops at the start of Quartzville Creek, just beyond Greenpeter Reservoir. Showing bedrock, some benches, and a little gold found there. Next the old Silver / Gold mine near Boulder Creek. Many different types of sulfides can be found here, including Pyrite and Chalcopyrite. Native Silver and free Gold can also be found here (less common), along w/ black tourmaline (per literature, thinking it could be an lesser identified mineral). Next, some mining up at one of the Campgrounds in Yellowbottom, 2 different spots, and some of the Gold found there. Then up towards the old townsite; first, the western most volcanic vent of the Cascades, with red pumice visible from the road. Then, what's left of the old Quartzville Townsite sign. Up another half mile to the Albany Mine. And onwards to several sulfide formations visible from the road.
