It reveals how mining helped forge democracy yet has repeatedly plotted to influence politics and even overthrow democratically elected leaders. Whilst mining has also been deeply damaging to Aboriginal society, ironically in the 21st century, it may be aboriginal people's best hope of economic self-determination.

Abandoned City. The Power Is Still ON. Adventure #26

28:14
This was one of the funnest adventures I have ever been on. The city of Kitsault was built in 1979 to house the workers and families of the near by Molybdenum mine. However in 1982 the price of molybdenum plummeted and the city was abandoned in 1983. It has then been bought and is preserved by a small team of caretaker but has mostly sat vacant from the day the last resident left. The city was built to house 1200 residents and offered restaurants, a pool, curling rink, movie theatre, bar, bank, mall, rec hall, school and all of the essentials for a community. I could spend days exploring this unique town but I was pretty limited in time due to the extensive trip just to get to this city. All in all it was an incredible adventure. Gold Mining Show MINER or BUST 2016 Gold Mining Documentary

01:03:54
The real Gold Rush... Gold mining in northern British Columbia Canada chasing down placer gold in the remote woods can be a hard task and spending the last 18 years chasing the dream of one day become a full-time gold miner has been a bit of work and a whole lot of adventure. Exploring for gold is a life changing event and doing the job right for a sucssesfull gold mine and the environment isn't easy but will pay in gold and one great experince to remember as well. After the 2016 placer gold sampling project I look forward to finally opening up this gold mine in 2017 as the ground in this gold claim has finally proved to me to be the best chance I have at a successful gold mining venture.....So I hope you enjoy this gold mining documentary of my gold mining adventures. Take care out there. Please Share Like and Subscribe. Shows like gold rush don't give gold mining a proper view into the life style of a gold miner. It's not just about getting rich or throwing money at it. It has more to do with a proper study of a area and taking the time to make sure a mine will will work before opening it up at all. Around 95% of mines fail due to gold fever and get rich thinking. The most succesful gold miners are the one who take the proper steps and don't let the greed do the talking and are more into the life style of being a gold miner and this is the intent of this on going gold mining documentary. So be patient and enjoy the hunt for gold and if your goal is to be a gold miner or opening up a gold mine the more you think and look the better your chances at a successful gold mine. Take care out there.
How a Canadian company will mine the sea bed near Papua New Guinea

01:11
Canadian mining company Nautilus Minerals has reached an agreement with the government of Papua New Guinea to begin mining an area of seabed believed to be rich in gold and copper ores, according to the BBC. Under the terms of the agreement, Papua New Guinea will contribute $120 million to the operation and receive a 15 percent share in the mine. Environmentalists say the mine will devastate the area and cause long-lasting damage to the environment. The BBC reports that "the mine will target an area of hydrothermal vents where superheated, highly acidic water emerges from the seabed, where it encounters far colder and more alkaline seawater, forcing it to deposit high concentrations of minerals." The report continues: The result is that the seabed is formed of ores that are far richer in gold and copper than ores found on land. Mike Johnston, chief executive of Nautilus Minerals told the BBC "that a temperature probe left in place for 18 months was found to have 'high grade copper all over it'." Nautilus announced in April that it had completed its bulk cutter, the first component of its Seafloor Production Tools system, which will be used to mine the seabed. Nautilus also approximately 500,000 square kilometres of "highly prospective exploration acreage" in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu and Tonga, as well as in international waters in the eastern Pacific, the company said in a press release. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Next Animation Studio’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D news animations that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health. Canadian Mining Industry

06:07
Aired on June 20, 2007 As commodity prices boom around the world, Canada's mining industry is booming, too. But it's also under increasing scrutiny. Pressure from NGO's who monitor Canadian companies abroad, led to a national round-table on corporate social responsibility and the extractive industry. Its produced a stellar and unanimous report N-G-Os and industry came to a consensus. We wanted to talk to someone from Foreign Affairs about these new guidelines, unfortunately, they declined saying they're still studying the proposals. It seems there may not be consensus in the Canadian government. But for the bigger picture of the Canadian mining industry worldwide, Avi talks to Karyn Keenan with the Halifax Initiative, an international development NGO based in Ottawa. THE FACTS ON MINING IN CANADA: Sixty percent of the world's exploration companies are listed on Canada's Stock Exchanges. Eighty-five percent of all the mining deals done world wide are done in Canada. Canadian companies account for over 40% of global exploration budgets. And they have Interests in more than 3,000 mineral properties in more than 100 countries. It all means that Canada is a big player. LINKS: http://www.halifaxinitiative.org/

Gold Mine-shaft exploring, Cabin exploring, Canada 2013

20:09
We took a trip to Canada a bit ago and I wanted to share some footage of an abandoned mineshaft that we probably should not have entered. It seemed to go on forever and we didn't reach the end in this clip, but I have been to the end of it and the tunnel gets pretty small. Next we check out the cabin thats right on top of the mining claim. It's seen better days but wouldn't take much work to be usable once again. We join our good flannel clad friend Harvey for a visit. He's always fun and pretty vocal so I wanted to share a bit of the visit with everyone. I hope you enjoy these clips, it's a long video at 20 min but it's all over the place, enjoy. Abandoned Silver Mine Winter Exploration in Northwestern Ontario Canada!

10:28
Checking out an old Silver Mine. Quite a few small holes and some foundations. Cold, windy and snowy but we snow shoed thru 2' of snow, although part of the old road was packed by snowmachine. I rappelled down to the edge of a vertical mine shaft and saw that it was vertical for the first 100'-150' and gradually turned into an Incline shaft of about 45 deg near 200' where I lost sight of it. It obviously goes down a lot further! It was a great day of Adventure...hope you enjoy it and thanks for watching!

Secret Miner’s Cabin & Mines In The Sierra Nevada - Part 1

16:18
Probably less than a dozen people know about the historic miner’s cabin hidden away on this mining claim - and even fewer still know about the abundance of gold mines found here… It remains a secret because the people that do know where this is remain tight-lipped about it and this cabin and mines are located in an absolute black hole on topographic and other maps. There is simply nothing marked anywhere near here. With the contractors for the Forest Service, BLM, Abandoned Mine Lands (AML) programs, et al working overtime (with taxpayer money) to get all of these historic mines erased, it is very nice to be introduced to some gold mines that are not (currently) in danger of being permanently closed. It is a shame that we have to wallow in such secrecy simply to protect a historically significant site from the very entities that should be preserving it, but such is the upside down world we live in. The two adits featured in this video appear to be quite old. I was able to find a couple of references to the mines consolidated on this claim in mining journals dating back to the turn of the last century and they were described as already having been worked for a while at that time. So, initial work here probably dates back to around the time of California’s “Gold Rush” era. The earliest gold miners in California were placer miners. However, when the easy pickings from the surface were worked out, they became lode miners and headed underground to start chasing the veins where the gold in the creeks originated from (some underground miners also chased the rich placer left behind by ancient river channels that were buried millions of years ago). The little hole by the creek under the huge boulder would have been referred to as a “coyote hole” by the miners of the time. These were in abundance along the creeks and rivers of California in the early days as the miners pursued gold flakes and nuggets back into the rocks and gravel lining the waterways. So, it seems likely that the small adit we visited first would have been the one developed initially and then the larger adit punching into the hard rock would have come along later. In further support of the idea that these mines are older rather than newer is that, although it may possibly have been there at one point, there was no sign of rail at the mines we visited. The claim owner also stated that he has never seen any sign of rail here either. It is not difficult to imagine a swarm of miners crawling all over these canyon walls like ants during the “Gold Rush” era, churning up the creeks and digging out coyote holes. This initial surge of miners, however, would have been followed by a more patient, more sophisticated group of miners that had an eye on heading underground. At the second adit shown in this video, for example, you could have had something like a father and son team or two brothers slowly working away at that lode mine for years, chasing those quartz veins and hauling load after load of ore and waste rock out in wheelbarrows. I’m giving more of a general feel for the area with these videos rather than showing every single bit of mining history present as both sides of this canyon are covered in mines and the remains of mining equipment. We’ll see more of that in the next video. ***** All of these videos are uploaded in HD, so adjust those settings to ramp up the quality! It really does make a difference. You can see the gear that I use for mine exploring here: https://bit.ly/2wqcBDD You can click here for my full playlist of abandoned mines that I have explored: https://goo.gl/TEKq9L Thanks for watching! ***** Growing up in California’s “Gold Rush Country” made it easy to take all of the history around us for granted. However, abandoned mine sites have a lot working against them – nature, vandals, scrappers and various government agencies… The old prospectors and miners that used to roam our lonely mountains and toil away deep underground are disappearing quickly as well. These losses finally caught our attention and we felt compelled to make an effort to document as many of the ghost towns and abandoned mines that we could before that colorful niche of our history is gone forever. But, you know what? We enjoy doing it! This is exploring history firsthand – bushwhacking down steep canyons and over rough mountains, figuring out the techniques the miners used and the equipment they worked with, seeing the innovations they came up with, discovering lost mines that no one has been in for a century, wandering through ghost towns where the only sound is the wind... These journeys allow a feeling of connection to a time when the world was a very different place. And I’d love to think that in some small way we are paying tribute to those hardy miners that worked these mines before we were even born. #ExploringAbandonedMines #MineExploring #AbandonedMines #UndergroundMineExploring

Drone2GIS offers a safe, efficient and accurate alternative approach to the conventional surveying method employed in open cast mines, quarries and stock yards for data acquisition. Through the employment of Unmanned Aerial Systems, Drone2GIS delivers precise, high accuracy ortho-photos, digital terrain models and virtual realities. With these products, we can extract features and positions to produce the same products one would expect from a conventional survey without the safety risks of having boots on the ground. Data can be captured as and when needed without significant impact on the day to day operation of the site and at a fraction of the time it would otherwise take. Take stock of your inventory with accurate volume measurements, visualize your site without the stock piles, and get the data you need when you need it with minimal impact on production! Surveying in an opencast mine, quarry or a stock yard has challenges. Setting up terrestrial scanners and other survey devices in the traffic of heavy equipment either slows down production or poses serious safety risks to the survey crews. Other safety and health risks involve steep ledges, potential for rock/land slides, noise and dust. Conventional surveying takes time, involves more than one person and can be very expensive. In addition to the safety concerns, logistics can also become difficult as parts of the location may need to be shut down while the survey takes place. Our approach saves time and money while ensuring a safer operation without boots on the ground. Britannia Mining Museum, BC Canada

08:37
Explore the old underground copper mine at Britannia Beach, near Vancouver BC Canada. Take a guided tour through the old tunnels, blasted out of solid rock and experience the working life of a hard rock miner. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia... Britannia Beach is a small unincorporated community in the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District located approximately 55 kilometers north of Vancouver, British Columbia on the Sea-to-Sky Highway on Howe Sound. It has a population of about 300. The community first developed between 1900 and 1904 as the residential area for the staff of the Britannia Mining and Smelting Company. The residential areas and the mining operation were physically interrelated, resulting in coincidental mining and community disasters through its history. Today, the town is host to the Britannia Mine Museum, formerly known as the British Columbia Museum of Mining, on the grounds of the old Britannia Mines. The mine's old concentrator facilities, used to separate copper ore from its containing rock, are a National Historic Site of Canada Copper mine (1900-1974) A copper discovery on Britannia Mountain by Dr. A. A. Forbes in 1888 led to the development of the Britannia Mine. In 1899, a mining engineer named George Robinson was able to convince financial backers that the property had great potential. For several years, companies were formed, merged and dissolved in efforts to raise capital. The Britannia Mining and Smelting Company, a branch of the Howe Sound Company, finally commenced mining in the early 1900s, and owned the site for the next sixty years. The first ore was shipped to the Crofton Smelter on Vancouver Island in 1904, and the mine achieved full production in 1905. A town had grown up around the mine and a Post Office opened on January 1, 1907 where it was named after the nearby mine. In 1912 John Wedderburn Dunbar Moodie was authorized to upgrade the operation and increase production from the mine. Improvements in the mineral separation processes stimulated plans for a new mill (No. 2), which was completed in 1916 and was capable of producing 2000 tons of ore per day. The onset of World War I increased the demand for copper and the price rose sharply. On March 21, 1915 an avalanche destroyed the Jane Camp. Sixty men, women and children were killed and it was a terrible blow to the tiny community. Construction began immediately on a new, safer town at the 2,200-foot (670 m) level above the Britannia Beach site. This portion of the community became known as the "Town site" or "Mount Sheer". In March 1921 during a brief period when the mine was shut down, mill No. 2 burnt to the ground. On October 28, 1921 after a full day of torrential rain, a massive flood destroyed much of that portion of the community and mine operations that existed on the lower beach area. 50 of 110 homes were destroyed and thirty-seven men, women and children lost their lives. The flood was caused because the mining company had dammed up a portion of the Creek during the construction of a railway, and when this dam gave way the town below was flooded. Carleton Perkins Browning directed the reconstruction of this portion of the community and the new No. 3 mill, which stands today. Being an isolated, close knit community which could only be accessed by boat, life in both of Britannia's towns was never dull. Facilities included libraries, club rooms, billiard rooms, swimming pools, tennis courts and even bowling. A thriving social calendar saw sporting events, theatrical productions, dances, movies and parties held throughout the year. The mine boomed in the late 1920s and early 1930s, becoming the largest producer of copper in the British Commonwealth by 1929, under the management of the mine manager C.P. Browning. In the 1940s there were talks to build an artist village in Britannia's hills, but that plan did not proceed. During the Great Depression, miners unionized in 1946 and suffered through their first strike. Low copper prices saw the Britannia Mine Company reduced to seven employees, and in 1959 it went into liquidation. In 1963 the Anaconda Mining Company bought the property and production continued for the next eleven years. 300 employees managed to produce 60,000 tons of concentrate each year. Ferries services stopped around May 1965 after the highway and railway connections had been constructed. The connections made it easier to transport the copper, but high operating costs and taxes eventually forced the mine to close on November 1, 1974. The company did not attempt to clean up the mine and chemical wastes that it produced, since environmental protection laws had not yet been enacted and enforcement of the Fisheries Act was never applied On April 1, 1975 the BC Museum of Mining was opened to the public, and was designated as a National Historic Site in 1988. The following year, 1989, the Museum site was designated a British Columbia Historic Landmark.
