The BestFriend Korean Language & Culture Exchange Center originally started as a branch off of the BestFriend International Volunteer Agency for Study in Korea. This organization was created to help foreigners interested in studying abroad in Korea. The concept of the BestFriend International Volunteer Agency originated from the positive experiences we(Mins) had studying abroad in Canada and Japan. I wanted to offer the same welcome and services to foreigners studying in Korea as those that we received while we were on study abroad. Thus, with the simple concept and passion of wanting to share the beauty of the Korean language and culture to the rest of the world, the BestFriend International Volunteer Agency was born. http://www.bestfriendcenter.com/ ----------------------- Soundtrack Hey Mr. Big by Lee Hyori

This is the summary project video of an English language and cultural exchange pilot project which took place in May 2009 and went on for 6 weeks. Two native English teachers, Holly and Jan, in Europe were asked to teach 17 Chinese teens in a 6 week pilot for 40min a week. 17 Chinese students, 6 weeks and 40min per week allows for 14min speaking time at the most. This does not include even any teacher talking time nor any microphone passing. So, what can be done? This project nicely demonstrates that by combining a variety of methods and above all by connecting the learners with other learners in other countries, the outcome of the project exceeded all expectations. A lively exchange on the NING site http://huangpu.ning.com, an active chat during the synchronous sessions, recordings by the students, recordings of virtual classroom activity and lastly the presentations during the final meeting, which were diligently prepared speak for itself. 115 slides of presentations, 105 of Word pages of text chat, 405 images, 6h 49min of recordings and countless comments on the NING site by the learners in English are the impressive result. Sadly 3 weeks prior to the final ceremony the NING site was banned by the Chinese government (youtube is banned too and so is blip.tv). In order for the students in China to be able to see their work, teachertube.com was being used to upload all the outcomes.

Cultural Exchange in the Languages and Literatures of Medieval Spain October 29, 2013 The Iberian Peninsula (what is now Spain and Portugal) during the Middle Ages was a cultural, linguistic, and religious crossroads where Islam, Christianity, and Judaism were in constant contact. This lecture explores five examples of what this world looked like through its literature, drawing on Arabic, Hebrew, Latin, Spanish, and other Iberian Romance languages. The overall theme of Bruno's idea is the importance of preserving cultures and traditions in ever-changing societies. Thousands of languages and cultures have disappeared throughout history due to aspects such as colonization, change in power, and population decrease. In a world that is changing faster than it ever did, culture-extinction becomes even more of a real issue. Without a region's culture and tradition, its population can face identity crisis, and that's what Bruno has found in his research and reporting over the last few months. Bruno Beidacki is a Brazilian journalist, writer, and storyteller based in the United States. He has worked for the CBS News’ true-crime show 48 Hours, the CBS News Investigative Unit and most recently been a Pulitzer Center crisis reporting fellow in Macau, where he reported on the dangers of the extinction of Portuguese culture and language in the region. Bruno is devoted to the process of language learning and has done extensive traveling in order to explore cultural preservation efforts; he visited more than two dozen countries in the process, and plans on continuing to do so. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

International Culture Exchange – Egypt and Turkey 2019 Traveling tends to have a big, positive impact on people. There is something about going to a foreign country the opens up peoples’ minds and inspires them to be creative, to try new things, and discover the beauty in life. And this is especially true when people travel with a purpose, with the intention to give and serve, and not just have a good time. That is what I am doing, not just myself, but I am preparing a way so that many young people from Bolivia and Latin America can travel to other countries with the intention of spreading love, hope and creativity through music, art and language and culture exchange projects. Meanwhile, the young travelers will also be tremendously impacted by the experiences they will have as they serve other human beings from completely different backgrounds. In January 2019, I and some friends from Bolivia and Mexico will be traveling to Egypt and Turkey in order to inspire creativity as well as hope and love through music, art, motivational conferences on entrepreneurship and language and culture exchange events. My goal for this trip is to establish connections and relationships with people and organizations willing to collaborate with us on future language and culture exchange projects. This is the first of many trips. Not only will we have the opportunity to serve and inspire hundreds of people in foreign lands with a message of hope, love and creativity, but everyone traveling with us, on this trip, and the many young people traveling with us in the future, will be deeply impacted by the experiences of working together as a team to give and serve another people in different cultures. Your donations, whether big or small, will contribute to the dreams of young people both in Latin America as well as in other countries around the globe. Please consider donating to this cause, and also sharing this video with friends on Facebook, Twitter or other social platforms. BLCU was founded in 1962 with the name Higher Preparatory School for Foreign Students. In June 1964, it was then renamed to Beijing Language Institute. In June 1996, with approval from the Chinese Ministry of Education, it became known as Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), a name that still sticks today. BLCU is the only international university in China with its main task set at teaching Mandarin Chinese and culture to non-Chinese individuals, then other foreign languages, computer science & technology, finance & accounting to Chinese students. BLCU attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation. Following the example of China as a country building relations with numerous other foreign countries, BLCU itself is increasingly building cooperation and encourages cultural exchange and has now partnered with 157 universities from 31 countries around the world. With its solid influence in education, Educational institutions and training organizations of various kinds in approximately 100 countries have adopted the text books of teaching Chinese as foreign language published by the BLCU press.

My name is Chloe Ann Arellano and in 2018 I was chosen to be the ambassador for Gold Intercultural’s Scholarship, for a two month exchange in Japan. I applied for the scholarship to gain an insight to life in Japan, immersing to both the language and culture. I still can't believe that I was given this opportunity and if I had the chance, I’d do it over again and again. I can’t be thankful enough to Gold Intercultural Learning and Jason for giving me this wonderful once in a life time experience. I’ll forever treasure the two months of my life that I spent in Japan. My life in Japan will always be apart me. One day I will return to meet all the beautiful people I met during my stay, and until then I’ll be waiting for that moment to arrive. http://www.sfu.ca/elc Stop memorizing vocabulary. Start living in English. An English language instructor at Simon Fraser University discusses why SFU's English Language and Culture program is unique. The teacher, Jeff Behrner, explains that the emphasis on culture is key to SFU's English Language and Culture (ELC) program. In addition to English grammar and vocabulary, students learn to understand North American culture. "Language is really linked to culture in a pretty fundamental way," Behrner says. "You can't really separate them." ELC students participate in field trips in order to practice their English. "We really encourage students to get out and explore Vancouver on their own," he says. He believes that students learn best in classes they enjoy, and his favourite part of teaching is helping and interacting with international students. The "cultural exchange...is the most rewarding part of my job." Try SFU's English Language and Culture program, located in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

Second languages are the key to a global mindset. Emmanuel College Warrnambool has developed strong partnerships and sister school relationships with schools overseas. These inter-school relationships complement the Language Study Tour Programs and allow Emmanuel students unique opportunities to: immerse themselves in language and culture, participate in exchange programs and to welcome students from overseas into their own homes, College and community. Our Sister School - Oberlin High School Emmanuel College first signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sister School Oberlin High School in Tokyo in 2008 but the relationship between the two schools dates back over 20 years. Students from the two schools have the opportunity to participate in an exchange in alternate years. The school you see in this Clip is Oberlin. The Sister school relationship provides Emmanuel students a valuable immersion experience in the language and culture of Japan, attending school at Oberlin High and staying with a host family along with some tourist travel as a group. In alternate years Emmanuel families have the opportunity to host a student from Oberlin and benefit from the cultural exchange. See the Language Study Tour section of this website in the Unique Programs section for more information on Study Tours. Students can excel when they are offered the opportunity to immerse themselves in language and culture. Along with our Sister School, Emmanuel College has established partnerships with 6 other schools located in Japan, France and Kenya.
