OutOfMemoryError Java Heap Space Fix - Heap Dump Analysis VisualVM Tutorial
In this tutorial I show you how and why a java.lang.OutOfMemoryError can occur when running a Java application. I also show you how to configure your application to perform a Java Heap Dump if an out of memory errors. Additionally; I perform heap dump analysis by importing it into a Java profiling tool such as VisualVM. This will help find the root cause. First I set the Java Heap size to 64m by changing the –Xms and –Xmx virtual machine arguments. What does –Xms stand for? This java virtual machine argument allows you to specify the initial size (bytes) of the java heap. What does –Xmx stand for? This java virtual machine argument allows you to specify the maximum size, in bytes, of the memory allocation pool. We set the java heap memory to such a small size that it can’t handle and save the amount of java objects being created. Once there is not enough memory left to allocate objects, the application will fail with an out of memory error. I then configure the application to perform a Heap Dump on java.lang.OutOfMemoryError by specifying the flag: XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError This heap dump will be present in your applications working directory. If you would like to change the output path of the heap dump you can specify it by passing the: -XX:HeapDumpPath I then proceed to execute the java application which has an infinite loop that will create and place objects on an Array list. The application eventually fell over and threw an OutOfMemoryError when we allocated a Brick Object and tried to place it in the list. The list was at its maximum capacity and tried to resize. An arraylist is backed by an array, which has a finite number of elements. Each time the list’s backing array has reached maximum capacity it defines a new array typically double the size and copies the old array’s contents over into the new array. Then the GC clears the old array. Unfortunately there was not enough room for the new backing array in the Java Heap which caused the application to crash. When the java failure occurred it left the java heap with file name pattern java_pid{process-id}.hprof, this file can then be imported into VisualVM Java profiler for analysis of the applications state when the out of memory error occurred. After importing the hprof file into VisualVM profiler we can analyse the java thread’s status and the memory allocation. We can see the last stack trace before the failure and the huge amount of Brick allocations. If your application ever crashes, it’s good to inspect the heap dump to find out what was going on. This will hopefully identify causes and will prevent future failures if you can put a fix in. If you work with a cloud based ephemeral file system, then you might not be able to create / access a heap dump, as the application’s file system is scrapped and a new application is started on failure. There are ways to work around this such as attaching a hard drive to the instance. It depends on the nature of the system. I hope you enjoyed the tutorial! How to set and increase java heap size on Windows 7
In this video I tried to show how to set and increase java heap space on Windows 7. You can do it by specifying size with the runtime parameter on the java option in the control panel or by specifying the size in the VM argument on java Eclipse dynamically which works at runtime. However, if you want to make it persistent, you can make it from the clipse.ini file located in the Eclipse distribution directory. Just open the eclipse.ini file and scroll down to the bottom and specify the same argument which I have used in the video. Caution: don't increase heap size equal to the physical memory(RAM), otherwise your system might crash.

Java Tutorial - #18 - Garbage Collection
Did you find this video helpful? If so, why not subscribe!? ► http://bit.ly/CognitiveSurge The Java garbage collector can be a fairly complex topic to wrap your head around. There are three main sections of the Java garbage collector and they are the young, old and permanent generation. These three sections hold the non reachable objects and the reachable objects, as well as other things such as the garbage collection roots. I will also be going over how we clear objects from the garbage collector, focusing on deletion with compacting and marking. Stack and Heap: Memory Management In Java (The most important Concept in Java)
From Java Code to Java Heap: Understanding the Memory Usage of Your Application: Understanding JVM Memory Model, Java Memory Management are very important if you want to understand the working of Java Garbage Collection. You might think that if you are programming in Java, what do you need to know about how memory works? Java has automatic memory management, a nice and quiet garbage collector that quietly works in the background to clean up the unused objects and free up some memory. Therefore, you as a Java programmer do not need to bother yourself with problems like destroying objects, as they are not used anymore. However, even if this process is automatic in Java, it does not guarantee anything. By not knowing how the garbage collector and Java memory is designed, you could have objects that are not eligible for garbage collecting, even if you are no longer using them. So knowing how memory actually works in Java is important, as it gives you the advantage of writing high-performance and optimized applications that will never ever crash with an OutOfMemoryError. On the other hand, when you find yourself in a bad situation, you will be able to quickly find the memory leak. ~~~~~Subscribe to this channel, and press bell icon to get some interesting videos on Selenium and Automation: https://www.youtube.com/c/Naveen%20AutomationLabs?sub_confirmation=1 Follow me on my Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/naveenqtpexpert/ Let's join our Automation community for some amazing knowledge sharing and group discussion: https://t.me/joinchat/COJqZQ4enmEt4JACKLNLUg

Minecraft out of memory FIX 1.5.2
OBSOLETE AS OF 1.6.2 read description for more info and FAQ: a simple fix to the error that crops up in Minecraft where it has run out of memory, typically during TNT explosions, using large mods or HD textures, and flying in creative. it also makes large TNT explosions which would not quite crash Minecraft much less laggy, and also prevents chunks from having to be re-rendered. THIS WILL REDUCE YOUR FRAMERATE WHATEVER ANY OTHER SIMILAR VIDEOS MAY SAY if you play for long periods without reloading the map. there is no avoiding that because of a memory dumping error associated with allocating too much RAM. for this reason, i cannot recommend you use this unless you have to. 1GB=1024MB 2GB=2048MB 3GB=3072MB 4GB=4096MB 6GB=6144MB 8GB=8192MB 10GB=10240MB 12GB=12288MB 16GB=16384MB 24GB=24576MB 32GB=32768MB Code to copy-paste Windows 7(64bit), Windows Vista(64bit) only: @echo off cd %AppData%\.minecraft start javaw -Xmx6144m -Xms6144m -Djava.library.path=".\bin\natives" -classpath "bin\minecraft.jar;bin\jinput.jar;bin\lwjgl.jar;bin\lwjgl_util.jar" net.minecraft.client.Minecraft All other windows versions, and if the above doesn't work: "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx2048M -Xms2048M -jar "C:\Users\*username*\desktop\minecraft.exe" (replace *username* with your PC username and make sure the filepath is right to the exe)   FAQ: Q: Its lagging a lot A: reduce the allocated RAM by half. if it still lags, make the number preceeded by Xms half the number preceeded by Xmx for example: -Xmx2048m -Xms1024m. If it is still lagging, install the mod OptiFine Q: I get blackscreen, then error report/it still runs out of memory A: If you have any RAM not allocated, double the number preceeded by Xmx in the batch file. If not, half the number preceeded by Xms. If you still get blackscreen, reduce the render distance and stop blowing up so much TNT Q: I cant log in to Minecraft.net A: This is effectively a simplified minecraft launcher. The launcher usually logs in to minecraft.net, and so usually people have difficulty playing online with this. The fix is surprisingly simple: at the end of the code, type your username, leave a space, then type your password. You will then automatically log in to minecraft.net on opening the file Q: It says 'Invalid or corrupt Jar file' A: There are many errors which could cause this, one of the more likely is that you are not administrator on the computer. To make this work you have to be an admin. this often pops up because the batch file is not launching JVM properly to run the jar in Q: I get 'Javaw was not found' A: use the other code Q: javaw is still not found A: install the latest 64-bit java, and use the first code Q: How do I find out how much RAM I have installed/which version of Windows I have? A: Start Menu--Computer--System Properties Q: what do I do if i only have a small amount of memory installed ie 1gb or less? A: buy and install more. its dirt cheap. seriously. 1gb costs about £10 ($15) Check with your manufacturer with which type to buy/how to install/whether your computer has any more room etc. http://www.mrmemory.co.uk (UK) http://www.crucial.com (US) Q: How do I change the icon to the standard Minecraft icon A: Make a SHORTCUT to the batch file on the desktop. Rightclick on the shortcut, go to properties, change icon, browse for file, and select the minecraft application, then apply. rename the shortcut and voila Q: Does it work with Technic? A: Technic has an option to change allocated memory in its launcher meaning this fix is not needed If your question is not answered here or in the comments, feel free to post it in the comments. I will endeavour to answer quickly, but I will not respond to ' HEEEEEELPPPP!!!!! IT WONT WOOOORK!!!' etc.

NotesIn9 072: Reviewing Domino Designer
This episode marks an early start to the NotesIn9: Drive to 99 event. I recently spoke at the MWLug conference.  This show is the first part of what might be 4-5 parts of that presentation turned into a screencast. In this show I talk about Domino Designer and source control first.  These are brief reviews of some longer shows I have done.  Though I talk a little more indepth about source control "Branching" which I've not done before.  I then talk about some tools that you need to have in your designers toolbox. Hope you like it as our "Drive to 99" starts heading to the highway! UPDATE: Since I stumbled in the show on what "Xmx" and "Xms" are I was excited to get some feedback from Dan O'Connor of IBM. ---- I saw you were a little unsure about the xmx and xms variables/args :-). xmx is the maximum heap size, it is a variable that is passed to the JVM on startup, and is the maximum size the JVM will allow its heap to expand to. xms is the minimum heap size, and while you might think setting this to a really low number can do 'no harm', it is actually advisable to set it to a 'reasonable' number, as the JVM is usually optimized to initialize to the minimum heap size, and if this size is too small for the number of objects needed to initialize the program (in this case Designer), as a result the JVM has to keep cycling until the optimal heap size is reached, which can have a performance impact. ---- Dan also suggests referring to the book "XPages Portable Command Guide".  There's a section in there that starts around page 86 and goes into more detail on what the Java heap is and how it affects performance.  While the book is geared for the server, the same principles apply to the client as well.  I hope to review those pages and go into that in a little more details in a future NotesIn9. Thanks Dan!!

[TUTORIAL] How to Allocate more Memory to Minecraft/Java
IMPORTANT: Follow these steps to prevent any errors/problems! - Step 1; make sure you have the right version of Java installed on your PC/OS, 32-bit needs a 32-bit version, and the same for 64-bit Just type ''Java 32/64 bit download' on google, and either go to the java.com site, or the makers of Java, oracle.com - Step 2; Find the javaw.exe file in your C:/Program Files/Java/bin map, and make a shortcut on your desktop. Right-click the shortcut, and cope the target location as shown in the video. Exit the tab, and paste the location in an .txt file on your desktop. Step 3; cope the following line after the line with the javaw.exe target, so it looks simmilair to this; "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx4092m -Xms2048m IMPORTANT!: there is a space between the last '' and the first -Xmx! Please keep in mind that the number after Xmx and Xms can be either of the following: 1024----512 2048---1024 4096---2058 8162---4096 if the Xmx is one of the number from the left row, the Xms MUST BE the number that stands behind that in the right row; dont mix these number up! now open your minecraft.exe shortcut from your desktop (if you haven't got one, make one), and copy the target location. Close that tab, and paste the location behind the already placed line, so it looks something like this: "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx4092m -Xms2048m -jar "C:\Users\Richard\Downloads\Minecraft.exe" Just make sure that you place your target location from the minecraft.exe AFTER the rest of the line, "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaw.exe" -Xmx4092m -Xms2048m -jar "ENTER YOUR TARGET HERE" Now save the file, and close it, but make a shortcut on your desktop. Copy the ENTIRE line, and then close the textfile. Open commandpromt by either typing 'cmd' in the searchbar (without the ' ), or use the 'run' and then 'cmd'. Right click the top-left corner, click 'edit', and then click 'paste'. Press 'Enter', and Minecraft should pop-up. Click Singleplayer, and press F3, then check the top right corner, and see if it is near the numbers your typed into the .txt file. Enjoy!

Want more RAM for minecraft Windows 10
Remember to check the link for the Java vid how to increase its ram,Link is at the bottom :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_Vpoew1ncQ Excuse the typos in the video :) Want more RAM for minecraft You can adapt the numbers to your needs -Xmx is the maximum of RAM which Minecraft can allocate. -Xms is the allocated RAM at the beginning. -Xms can also be omitted. As result Minecraft will not allocate all Ram at once, but as much as needed. -Xms must not be greater than -Xmx!
