In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to protect your .htaccess file from unauthorized access. The .htaccess file is used to do a lot of things on your website including securing it. However, if you don't protect this file as well, then your website is still vulnerable. This works on a website on any Apache server, not just WordPress sites. Let's put that code into your .htaccess file and secure WordPress. First login into your hosting account cPanel. Then find and click on the File Manager icon and choose the Document Root for the website that you are hardening. This will open the root of the website in another tab. You can also log into the website root using FTP if you are more comfortable with that. If you do not see a .htaccess in the website right then you can make one by clicking Add New File in the File Manager or right-clicking and choosing Create New File via File Transfer Protocol (FTP). Open the .htaccess file and paste the code from above into it. There is no need to make adjustments to the code. Once pasted in just save the file and you're done. Now you've done your better WordPress security for the day. Time to take a break! Or better yet, watch the next video. I hope this information helps you! 500 Internal Server Error | .htaccess, Test and Configure

06:05
.htaccess | Configuring and Testing Custom Error Responses | 500 Internal Server Error page example Author: Dmytro Dzyubak http://www.dzyubak.com intro and outro music by Dmytro Dzyubak Transcript Configuring and testing customized 500 Internal Server Error page using .htaccess file. Testing the custom 500 error page is actually trickier then one might think! Because usually we won't be able to trigger it neither with PHP code nor with the error intentionally made in the .htaccess file itself. The foregoing behaviour will be demonstrated in the examples that follow. But let's first look at the contents of our DocumentRoot. What concerns us is an .htaccess file, 500.html, buggy.cgi, buggy.php and hello.cgi. "500 page" header centrally-aligned is what we eventually want to achieve showing up in our browser. So as I've already mentioned, we won't be able to trigger the output of this 500.html file with PHP code. For example, we can throw an exception (then open buggy.php to see the result) or introduce a fatal error directly (saving the document, refreshing the page) or send a raw 500 HTTP header (save the file, refresh). All these lines produce a blank page instead. We can confirm it by viewing the source. In fact, it is possible to trigger 500 status code, but not the custom 500.html page. Screwing up the .htaccess file itself, for example, with a double slash comment not valid in Apache produces a "generic error response" instead, but not our custom one that we need for testing our configuration. However, we can intentionally generate an error by using the CGI script. Actually, CGI script can be implemented in PHP, but that's usually not the case, so let's not overcomplicate this stuff. For CGI program to be executed properly by the server: enable the CGI module and restart the Apache. This procedure varies depending on the OS you use. For example, on Debian Linux these commands look like this. Elevate privileges with sudo (or just might be a root user). This (a2enmod) stands for Apache 2 enable module CGI. And CGI stands for common gateway interface. After that restart the Apache with "sudo service apache2 restart". Add the following lines to the .htaccess file. This line (Options +ExecCGI) specifies that CGI execution is permitted. And this one (AddHandler cgi-script .cgi) makes any file containing the .cgi extension to be treated as a CGI program. The CGI script has some garbage text that produces an error. Make the script executable (chmod 755 buggy.cgi) and "ls -l" to ensure that the changes have been applied. The following output shows that executable bit has been set on the buggy.cgi file. Now we access our buggy.cgi script. (I type buggy.cgi and hit Enter.) Ultimately we can see that our custom 500.html file is served when we have some problems with the server. And just in case you've been wondering how a valid CGI script might look like, here I've added hello.cgi script. Navigating to hello.cgi gives the following output. like / subscribe :-)

403 Forbidden

04:33
A 403 Forbidden error is a particular type of error that occurs when trying to access a URL. There are a couple of possible causes to an HTTP 403 error, and we'll take a look at those along with the possible resolutions. Get more answers to technical questions at http://www.helpdesk-blog.com If you'd like to learn more about Help Desk Premier, please visit us at http://www.help-desk-software.com 403 Forbidden Errors -- Finding and Fixing the Source A 403 Forbidden error is a particular type of error that occurs when trying to access a URL. If you're seeing a 403 Forbidden error, there are two possible causes. It could be due to a removal of file permission, or restriction of access based on the IP address of the user. The second possible cause is accidental misconfiguration of the webserver. As mentioned, a lack of proper permission access to the file or resource can cause 403 forbidden error. This will result in a 403 error, sometimes combined with a 404 file not found error stating the following message: "Forbidden You don't have permission to access /asd.html on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request." However, the title of the web page will display a 403 Forbidden error. To fix a http 403 error, you should set proper permissions for a folder or a file. Normal file permission is 644 and folder permission is 755. File/folder permissions can be set using variety of ways. In Windows Web Hosting, it's simply set using IIS. Open Internet Information Service Manager: Select the relevant website or folder, and set the necessary permissions via "Edit Permissions". However, if you are using shared hosting, you may not be able to access the IIS Manager or the Apache configuration file to set file/folder permissions. In this case, permissions can be easily set using FileZilla FTP client, or through the cPanel interface f or the particular web resource. You can download the FileZilla FTP client from the URL below: http://filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client Install it and run. Then access the web resource using your FTP details in the area marked as (1). Right click and select the file or folder for which you intend to change permission, and select the "File Permissions ..." option in the area marked as (2). Next let's look at how to fix the permission of a folder which generates a 403 error. The rectified permission value will be 755. If you are having an issue with file permission, you should set the file's permission value to 644 instead of 755. If the cause of the 403 error is restricted access based on IP address, you will see a message somewhat similar this: "Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while typing an ErrorDocument to handle the request. " If you have cPanel access, check whether you have properly configured the IP Deny Manager. It may be that you have added your own IP range accidentally. If so, click on IP Deny Manager and remove any unnecessary IP deny lists. If it is an Apache server, you can do this by editing ".htaccess" file. To edit the .htaccess file you must have direct access to files in the hosting space, or you may use FTP or SSH. You can download and edit ".htaccess" file using a text editor such as Notepad. In the ".htaccess" file you may see something similar to these lines. Edit or remove deny lists as you wish: Sometimes the ".htaccess" file is not visible in the hosting space, and as such can't be found for viewing or download. If so, you need to enable viewing of hidden files by clicking the "Server" tab and ticking the "force showing hidden files" box in your FileZilla FTP client. To Remove IP restrictions Using IIS 7.5 in Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Select the website or directory in the Internet Information Services Manager and click on "IP Address and Domain Restrictions": Remove unnecessary IP addresses or ranges 403 Forbidden errors can occur if there's no default index page present when directory browsing is denied. For example if you are using IIS 7.5 in Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, you will receive something similar to the 403 Forbidden error below, if directory browsing is denied. This error will be 403.14 - directory listing denied. Fix the 403.14 error by either creating an index.html /index.php file, or enabling the directory browsing. To Enable directory browsing Open IIS Manager and select the appropriate web folder/web site , and click on "Directory Browsing": Then click on enable ... Other than above causes, there's one other possible source of a 403 Forbidden error if you are using Apache. It's possible that the error stems from your mod_security rules if directory listings have been disabled in the server using the mod_proxy extension. It may be worth checking those settings if you are using an Apache server.

How to Fix the 403 Forbidden Error in WordPress

06:32
The 403 Forbidden error is one of the more annoying errors that can crop up on a WordPress site. The 403 Forbidden error is shown when your server permissions are not allowing you to visit a specific page. This can seem like a daunting error to fix but we're here to show you some of the ways you can fix the 403 forbidden error in WordPress. Of the posibilities that could cause this would be one of your plugins causing this error. To fix this we will use FTP, if you do not know how to use FTP you would want to take a look at our article: http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-use-ftp-to-upload-files-to-wordpress-for-beginners/ With FTP connected to your site you will want to rename your plugins folder to anything other than plugins to force the plugins to deactivate and once you log in you will be able to set the folder name back to plugins to return the deactivated plugins to your site. If your issue was not from your plugins the next possibility would be your .htaccess file. If you do not see the file, ensure that you are displaying hidden and/or dot files in the FTP you are using to access your files. Rename the .htaccess and that shoudl allow you to visit the site if it was an issue with the .htaccess file. Our final recommendation will be to edit the file permissions in case a plugin or your hosting provider changed the permissions. If you do not feel confident in attempting this step we would recommend reaching out to your hosting provider. In this tutorial you'll learn how to prevent hackers from tapping into the PHP GLOBALS and _REQUEST variables to inject malicious scripts into your website. The goal of script injection is to trick the target server into running an attackers script or code. On a dynamic PHP website it's important to protect specific variables because they can be used to inject scripts. Most developers do a good job of protecting the GET and POST variables, but the GLOBALS and _REQUEST variables are usually left wide open. That's where the Apache command above comes in. Simply copy and paste the code above into the .htaccess file in the root of your website folder and slam the door on would-be script injectors. So let's put that code into your .htaccess file. First login into your hosting account cPanel. Then find and click on the File Manager icon and choose the Document Root for the website that you are hardening. This will open the root of the website in another tab. You can also log into the website root using FTP if you are more comfortable with that. How to Increase the PHP Max Time Limit and Max Input Vars

02:27
Today I installed a premium theme which is AVADA theme that requires me to change the PHP maximum execution time and the maximum input variables. This could happen to you if ever you installed other themes or plugins that require you to change these default limits And the solution may different depending on your hosting plan. If you don't want to get you hands dirty with the codes, then I suggest you just contact your web hosting and request for a change of these limits. But of course that will take time - and I understand if you don't have that time to wait. So here's a fast solution. BTW, I am using GoDaddy's ecomony package which a shared hosting. You just have to go to your file manager and in the root folder which /public_html, create a new file with a name .user.ini Make sure that there is . before the user.ini because you might easily get confused with this name. So. Once you have this new file, edit it and paste this code here. ###### max_input_vars = 10000; max_execution_time = 36000; ###### The code is in the description of this video that you can copy. You just have to change the value depending on what your theme or plugin recommends. How to prevent image hotlinking for Joomla using FTP - Joomla Tutorials

07:43
How to prevent image hotlinking for Joomla using FTP • Hotlink protection prevents the other websites from linking to your images and files and thereby using your bandwidth. Let's find it how to enable it using the Joomla directory. This is for the servers not having cPanel or some other control panel installed, or a control panel is installed that does not allow you to automatically add hotlink protection. • Your website must be on the server that runs Apache web server with mod_rewrite installed. • Firstly, a new text document is to be created. • Right click in the windows explorer, go to the new option and click Text Document. Name the file htaccess.txt and press enter. • Double click to open the file with notepad. • Here, we'll need to type several lines of code that will determine which websites should be allowed to hotlink to your files, which types of files the hotlinking should be imposed upon, as well as some related options. • Enter the codes and the related content with the required domain names • Press ctrl+S to save the file. • As the htaccess file is complete, it's time to upload the file to the joomla directory using FTP. • For this tutorial, FireZilla is used to access our FTP server, any program can be used. • Joomla provides you with a htaccess.txt file that you can choose to use, so let's find that one and rename it in case you may need it in future. • Now the file that we created is to be dropped in the Joomla directory on your server and scrolled up in order to find the file. • Right click and rename it to .htaccess. Windows would not allow naming it this. • This is all that is required to prevent image hotlinking for joomla using FTP.

It is much faster for development. This is a short video showing how to do this using the Xampp software. After downloading Xampp ( Link at bottom ). Go ahead and install it using the default options. Usually it will end up installing on your root directory (C: or whatever letter yours is ). Once installed navigate to your install folder, usually C: xampp. Open up this folder and look for a folder called htdocs. This is the folder where everything is going to be when you install WordPress locally. Create a new folder inside htdocs and name it mynewsite ( or whatever name you want to use). Minimize that folder, we will be returning to it later. Next we want to download WordPress. ( link below ). To install WordPress locally we need to unzip the wordpress file we just downloaded. Then, from the folder ’WordPress’ that is created, open it and copy the contents. Paste the copied contents into the mynewsite folder you created earlier. Next we want to create a database for out new site. To do this open a new tab in your browser. Type in localhost and hit enter. This should bring up the Xampp interface. On the left hand side near the bottom, under tools, you will see phpMyAdmin. Click on it then click on the Databases tab at the top. In the create database box give your database a name, leave the second box as collation and hit the create button. This will create your new database. Put a checkmark in the box to the left of your new database in the list, then hit users at the top. Scroll down and hit add user. To install WordPress locally you are going to want to make a note of these next settings. Username ( fill in ), Host ( change to localhost), Password ( fill in ), Check the box below that marked global privileges, check all. Make a note of the above info , scroll down and hit Go. Once this is done you are ready to install wordpress locally. Open your browser and navigate to localhost/mynewsite (or localhost/whatever you called your folder). You should now be presented with the WordPress setup screen. Follow the onscreen prompts using the database info you noted earlier. Make a note of the WordPress username and password when you are prompted to enter one. After completing these steps you will be prompted to log in. That is all there is to it WordPress is installed locally. You can repeat these steps and create many folders within the htdocs folder so you can work on multiple projects at once. Just remember that when you want to access one of your local sites you need to start Xampp first, if you don’t you will be presented with a website not available message! Use W3 Total Cache For Page Speed Improvements In WordPress | WP Learning Lab

08:11
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL Download our exclusive 10-Point WP Hardening Checklist: http://bit.ly/10point-wordpress-hardening-checklist Use W3 Total Cache For Page Speed Improvements In WordPress | WP Learning Lab In this tutorial you're going to learn how to configure the W3 Total Cache plugin to improve the page speed of your website. As you may or may not know, page speed is a consideration in the Google ranking algorithm. So, your SEO (search engine optimization) will benefit from faster loading pages. The first thing you'll need to do is install the plugin, so let's do that. To install this plugin please log into your WordPress dashboard, hover over Plugins and then click on Add New. On the next page type "W3 Total Cache" into the search bar. The plugin we want should be the first one in the top left. Click on the Install Now button and then click Activate after it's installed. This is a new menu item in the left hand menu called "Performance". Hover over that menu item and then click on General Settings. This is where we access the majority of the page caching options to improve page speed. The sections listed on this page include: 1. General 2. Page Cache 3. Minify 4. Database Cache 5. Object Cache 6. Browser Cache 7. CDN 8. Varnish 9. Monitoring 10. Miscellaneous 11. Debug 12. Import / Export Settings In the General section you can mass-activate the caching options. In the Page Cache section you will be able to enable caching of individual pages. This means that when a page is accessed, the website will query the database and then save a hardcopy of that page on the server. The next time that page is access the hardcopy will be loaded rather than querying the database again. This improves page speed. In the Minify section you enable the shrinking of CSS and Javascript files. This removes excess white space in the files, which can lead to substantial saves in file weight and consequently page load times. In the Database Cache section you enable the caching of database queries. In the Object Cache section you enable to caching of database information for quick retrieval. In the Browser Cache section you allow further caching on the visitor's browser. In the CDN section you configure a Content Delivery Network which stores media files on super fasters servers. This can lead to substantial load time improvements. In the Monitoring section you can activate your New Relic subscription to monitor your website's performance. All of these options add up to faster page speed, which is what everyone wants, including Google. I hope this information helps you! Remote Web Access to Server Shared Folders

04:43
Hello everyone, I’m Tom Roe, Product Evangelist for CentreStack; and welcome to another CentreStack Tutorial. https://centrestack.com/ There are a lot of solutions for cloud-based file management on the Internet, so I think you should be aware of just how good CentreStack is for migrating your users and files to the cloud. In this video I will show you how easy it is to use CentreStack’s Web Portal. I will also demonstrate how your users can easily install the Client software. I will show you the mapped Windows Cloud Drive. And finally, I will demonstrate some reliability and security features. So, let’s get started. Typically, the CentreStack Administrator will create a Tenant which is like a company or division within your Management Console. This Tenant will have one or more Tenant administrator users assigned and other non-administrator users which have access to shared team folders. These folders have the same permissions and security settings you’re used to seeing in the Windows Active Directory. I’m logging in as a standard user. As you can see the CentreStack Web Portal is like a typical web page. You can navigate your folders and files here, download and upload files and depending on the size of your screen, you can see that the contents here size, scale and are otherwise responsive to that window constraints. So, this web portal will work with any device that can open a web page URL. The files can be viewed in different ways, the same as if you altered the view settings in Window’s Explorer. Here is tiled thumbnail view, and by clicking this icon you can also show your files in a list view which provides more information to the user. Your users will need to get access to CentreStack and especially its shared team folders from their own personal computer. To do this they will need to log in to CentreStack using a browser and the credentials you have provided them, if they were imported from an active directory account the user can access CentreStack’s Web Portal using their Windows login credentials. Once logged into the Web Portal, the user clicks their account icon and the download link for our client solutions. This opens the various client options. For this user who is on Windows 10, I would choose the Windows 64-bit download and follow the instructions for installation. The reason you want your users to download their client software from your CentreStack server is because the client is already connected to your server, and all they need to do is log in to get access to their files. This makes setting up your users, whether it is one user or a thousand users a very simple process. Now we are looking at a machine where we are logged in as a user and they can see the Cloud Drive in Windows Explorer just like any other drive on their system. What makes this better than other similar products, is that these files are visible to your user because they have Windows NTFS permissions that authorize them to view or edit these files. These permissions are maintained from your CentreStack server, and should you alter permissions on your NTFS file server that is linked through Active Directory for a specific user, those changed AD permissions will be synchronized with the cloud drive on the user’s system. We have implemented some very useful reliability and security features that go beyond a typical shared drive on the internet. As a Tenant Administrator, you can now decide how to break up your large files into smaller chunks. If you have very large files being synced, we use chunk upload to manage these files so that only the changes are synced, which can save a lot of time and bandwidth. We are using HTTP which is a very fast streaming protocol, we have a robust fail/retry and auto-retry functionality to ensure your files are synced. We have also included secure, endpoint encryption at rest, and in transit encryption with HTTPS. If someone other than the user has access to the computer, unless they are logged in they won’t be able to examine the content of the cloud drive. If you are dealing with confidential files, you know how critical this feature is to keep you in compliance with various oversight agencies. So that covers some very important features of CentreStack. With easy web portal navigation and accessibility from any device type. Easy client integration, eliminating the need for complex virtual private network management. And reliability and security features integrated through NTFS Active Directory permissions. You can see how good CentreStack is at migrating your users and data to the cloud. I hope you have enjoyed this overview of very useful CentreStack features. This is Tom, and I’ll see you in the next video.

How to Change the Maximum File Upload Size in Phoca Download

06:40
Phoca Download is a Joomla extension that manages file downloads and uploads on a Joomla website. This tutorial shows how to change the maximum file upload size allowed in Phoca Download. This tutorial will show you how to change the default upload file size in Phoca Download. I have a client that wants to upload a large file, to make it available on his site, but it is too large ... it's larger than what the limits are set at by default with Phoca Download installed and so here's how to change that. We're already logged into the back end of my client's site, and here we are in the control panel. We're going to go to components and down to Phoca Download and to control panel. Once the control panel comes up we will go to the top right corner to options, click options, and then go to uploads tab. Now here's where you can set all the parameters for controlling access, and uploads, and the size of files to be uploaded in Phoca Download. The first number of options involve a site that is allows users to log-in to the front end and to upload files themselves. If you want to enable that you could just say yes in this field and then the rest of it is self-explanatory … how many files that an individual user can have, and the maximum size of all the files that they have. So here, this is an 8-digit number, so basically 20.9 million bytes - that's 20 megabytes roughly. One megabyte doesn't exactly equal 1 million but roughly. That probably works out to about 20 megabytes. And then the user file upload size … How much they would be allowed? What's the biggest file they could upload? And it's 3.1 million here which is roughly about three megs. Do you want to enable the user to be authorized? for it to be public on the site? the language? and if someone uploads something do you want to get an email? and you would click here, and pick the user that would get the email. When something's uploaded do you want to update it with the latest version? and the option for play or preview a copy of what is uploaded. You can read all the descriptions in here. Now here we get to “maximum upload size administration” and this is where my client wants to change the amount for their file. So right now it's set for this 3.145728, which is three megabytes. He wants to upload a file that is 34 megabytes. So, what we do here is type in 36 megabytes - that's 36 million bytes - and that's okay, it doesn't have to be an exact number. If you really want to make sure that you're covered you could go to Google, ask how many bytes in a megabyte then set your number high enough to cover what is required. Here we're set for 36 million, so that would be fine. Now once I save these options my client will be able to upload a file as large as 34 megabytes, 36 million bytes. And the last option here is enable multiple upload administration. When you're uploading files in Phoca Download you can do them one at a time or you can give anyone logged in as an administrator permission to upload multiple files at a time. So, this area in the Phoca Download configuration area uploads is where you can control and set the size of files being uploaded to Phoca Download. As soon as I click save and close that number will be in there, and my client will be able to upload the large files and you'll be able to too, if you set the number high enough for the file that you want to upload… keeping in mind one last thing. The files that you upload count towards the amount of storage in your web hosting account so you might reach the maximum space allowed for your web hosting account, which may mean you're not allowed to upload anymore, or you'll be charged for overages. So, when you're uploading things, just remember to keep track of how much storage you have and what it might cost you. You may want to remove some things that you no longer need. Or maybe your site is just so popular. Then you need a larger web hosting package anyways to make space for everything that you're offering. So that's how to change the upload limits in Phoca Download and a quick tour of a bunch of other settings as well. I hope that helps you. Enjoy working on your site and if this video was helpful, why not subscribe to the channel or give a “thumbs up” or leave a comment. That would be great. Thanks for watching. God bless. Follow the wisdom of Tech Tzu: https://twitter.com/Tech_Tzu https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100013382105892&fref=ts Transcription: I'm trying to install WordPress on my add-on domain but if you have your main domain, on your main domain, if you have add on like for example All in one WordPress security. This add-on this plugin will prevent the access to the htaccess file and you will not be able to install Wordpress on a add-on domain . And that's it guys say it's a pretty simple solution, I thought it was in phpconfig file and permissions and all the other stuff but it is very simple so watch every your plugin just watch for the plugins that have access to your htaccess files and your Wordpress php files. Google error 404 - The requested URL / map was not found on this server....

00:30
404 (Not found) About Not Found errors Google discovers content by following links from one page to another. Generally, a Not Found status error (usually a 404 HTTP status code) is returned when Googlebot attempts to visit a page that doesn't exist—either because you deleted or renamed it without redirecting the old URL to a new page, or because of a typo in a link. Dealing with Not Found errors Generally, 404 errors don't impact your site's ranking in Google, and you can safely ignore them. Typically, they are caused by typos, misconfigurations (for example, for links that are automatically generated by a content management system) or by Google's increased efforts to recognize and crawl links in embedded content such as JavaScript. To see where invalid links are coming from, click the URL. In the error dialog, click the Linked from these pages tab. If the links are coming from your own site, fix or delete them. If they're coming from an external site, you can use this data to help improve your site's user experience. For example, a misspelling of a legitimate URL (www.example.com/awsome instead of www.example.com/awesome) probably happens when someone intended to link to you and simply made a typo. Instead of returning a 404, you could 301 redirect the misspelled URL to the correct URL and capture the intended traffic from that link. You can also make sure that, when users do land on a 404 page on your site, you help them find what they were looking for rather than just saying "404 Not found." However, this is only worth the effort if the incorrect link is generating significant traffic. You can also contact the webmaster of a site with an incorrect link, and ask for the link to be updated or removed. 404s are a perfectly normal (and in many ways desirable) part of the web. You will likely never be able to control every link to your site, or resolve every 404 error listed in Webmaster Tools. Instead, check the top-ranking issues, fix those if possible, and then move on. When to return a 404 status code When you remove a page from your site, think about whether that content is moving somewhere else, or whether you no longer plan to have that type of content on your site. If you're moving that content to a new URL, you should 301 redirect the old URL to the new URL—that way when users come to the old URL looking for that content, they'll be automatically redirected to something relevant to what they were looking for. If you're getting rid of that content entirely and don't have anything on your site that would fill the same user need, then the old URL should return a 404 or 410. Currently Google treats 410s (Gone) the same as 404s (Not found). Returning a code other than 404 or 410 for a non-existent page (or redirecting users to another page, such as the homepage, instead of returning a 404) can be problematic. Such pages are called soft 404s, and can be confusing to both users and search engines. You can improve the user experience by configuring your site to display a custom 404 page when returning a 404 response code. For example, you could create a page containing a list of your most popular pages, or a link to your home page, or a feedback link. You can also use the Webmaster Tools Custom 404 widget to add a search box and more site search options to your site. But it's important to remember that it's not enough to just create a page that displays a 404 message. You also need to return the correct 404 or 410 HTTP response code.
