FT Global Commodities Summit, 19 - 21 March 2018, Lausanne https://live.ft.com/Events/2018/FT-Commodities-Global-Summit-2018 The ranks of commodity-specialist hedge funds have thinned out in recent years, but money managers continue to exert considerable influence on commodities markets. Multi-strategy funds have built up commodities portfolios, while automated trading programmes account for a larger share of futures markets. Some funds have begun to handle physical commodities. The broader availability of supply and demand information has meanwhile challenged funds seeking a market edge. These and other topics will be reviewed by a panel of fund managers in commodities.
FT Global Commodities Summit 2018 - Mining Leaders Debate

41:49
FT Global Commodities Summit, 19 - 21 March 2018, Lausanne https://live.ft.com/Events/2018/FT-Commodities-Global-Summit-2018 The mining industry has been through one of the worst commodity downturns in history but has emerged on the other side. Aided by higher prices, aggressive cost cutting and assets sales the sector has rarely been in better shape financially but many investors remain wary. Is the clampdown on spending and new projects sowing the seeds for the next boom-bust cycle or can the industry repeat the mistakes of the past through more judicious allocation of capital? Leading mining executives will discuss these themes and others.
FT Global Commodities Summit 2018 - Digital Disruption

40:25
Start-ups, technology firms and industry joint ventures are slowly but surely reshaping the industry, using technology to democratise market intelligence and make trading more efficient. To retain their competitive edge established players must make sure they are fully exploiting the proprietary data in their portfolios and supply chains. This is not an easy task. It requires a different set of skills and recognition that digital transformations often lead to unsettling power shifts within companies.

FT Global Commodities Summit 2018 - Commodities, Batteries and Supply Chain Ethics

45:47
FT Global Commodities Summit, 19 - 21 March 2018, Lausanne https://live.ft.com/Events/2018/FT-Commodities-Global-Summit-2018 Batteries will play a critical role moving the world away from fossil fuels: both in powering electric cars, and in storing energy from the wind and the sun. Growing demand for electric cars has already sent ripples through commodity markets, boosting prices for battery metals lithium and cobalt, and leading mining companies to increase their output. Utilities throughout the world are also starting to install large batteries for back-up power. The price rises are good news for mining companies. But car makers are concerned about securing access to large volumes of the metals they need at stable prices. They also have to assure environmentally-conscious consumers that their electric cars use metals that are mined responsibly.

https://www.eiseverywhere.com/ehome/commodities2015/agenda/ 20 - 22 April 2015, Lausanne Physical commodities pose a very different set of challenges for regulators than foreign exchange and equities. As new regulatory regimes take shape in Europe and the US, they risk being covered by the same rules. What are the unintended consequences of “one size fits all” regulatory reform for commodities? How should the industry educate and inform policymakers about the impact of these new rules?

Neil Hume previews the 2016 FT Commodities Summit

05:17
http://live.ft.com/Commodities Now in its fifth year, we are pleased to announce that the Financial Times returns to the Beau Rivage Palace in Lausanne this April for our industry-leading FT Commodities Global Summit. After a decade of rapid growth in China and emerging market industrialisation, the commodity trading industry now confronts a very different landscape. China is not just slowing, but changing, from the world’s factory to a more consumer-led economy. The oil market is enduring a prolonged downturn and the timing of any recovery remains uncertain. Some traders are thriving and finding new opportunities in this new environment but they have all been challenged by rapid changes in their markets. The leaders of some of the world’s biggest trading houses and resources companies will gather to debate these topics and other issues facing the oil, metals and grains industries. Now in its fifth year the conference has established itself as the pre-eminent gathering of senior commodity executives, traders and financiers.

FT Commodities Global Summit 2015 - D1 The Demand Outlook

28:55
https://www.eiseverywhere.com/ehome/commodities2015/agenda/ 20-22 April 2015 The sharp fall in oil prices witnessed over the past year was supposed to lift demand and help to alleviate an oversupplied market. While lower oil prices have provided a shot in the arm to the global economy, demand growth remains weak. Are there reasons to expect this to change and if so when and in what parts of the world? Or will the usual benefits of lower prices – increased household disposable income, reduced industry input costs – be offset by tepid global growth, subsidy removals and the impact of a stronger US dollar.

This year’s event also examined some of the key developments in commodity markets in 2018, including the fallout from the US-China trade skirmish and Beijing’s war on pollution, as well as the outlook for 2019. There were discussions on the global economy with Martin Wolf, the FT’s chief economic commentator. With contributions from leading industry executives and thinkers, this year’s programme provided unique and valuable insights on the industry as well as the opportunity to network and do business.
