EXCHANGING MONEY IN EUROPE: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

09:47
http://www.distantlands.com WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO EXCHANGE MONEY IN EUROPE? How many people endlessly scour airfare comparison and hotel booking sites looking for the best deal, then waste all that effort by paying huge fees to exchange money abroad. Once you leave the country, how you pay for things can impact the cost of your trip. What is the best option? Keep watching and we will explore all your currency conversion options while traveling in Europe. But first, don't forget to like, subscribe and comment. EXCHANGING CASH Avoid or minimize cash exchange. Fees can range from about 8% at banks to up to 15% at airport currency exchange booths. If you need to exchange cash, look for places that don't charge a commission. Hold onto your cash for emergencies. If you want cash before leaving the U.S., you may be able to order currency through your bank, or through a website. Rates in the U.S. are usually less favorable than abroad, though, so only get what you need for a day or two. Cash is best for: Emergencies. PRO: You'll almost always find someone who will exchange cash. CON: You will not get a great conversion rate. DEBIT AND ATM CARDS Use these at cash machines (ATM's) to withdraw local cash. Use bank ATM machines. Your rate will be as good as or better than a bank teller. Minimize ATM usage fees by withdrawing as much as you can each time you visit the ATM (and keep the extra cash in your money belt!). AVOID generic ATMs or foreign exchange machines, often found at airport arrival halls, which charge high fees and offer really bad exchange rates. Debit & ATM cards are best for: Getting cash in local currency. PRO: You get the great interbank exchange rate, and ATMs are widely available in cities throughout Europe. CON: Each withdrawal you make will be subject to various fees, so withdraw larger amounts less frequently than you would at home. Debit cards are usually not accepted for car rentals without additional cost and paperwork. PRO TIP: AVOID DYNAMIC CURRENCY CONVERSION. If a merchant asks you if you would like to make your transaction in your home currency instead of local currency, say NO. ALWAYS get your transaction in the local currency or you will pay a huge fee. CREDIT CARDS Credit cards are best for large purchases such as airline or train tickets, hotel bills and car rentals. Generally, paying by credit card gives you a better rate than withdrawing or exchanging cash...as long as you clear your balance each month. The interest you pay on that balance will add to your trip costs. Read your credit card agreement carefully; a foreign currency conversion fee of about 1% is standard. If you can, consider applying for a credit card that doesn't charge foreign currency fees before you travel. However, avoid using your credit card to withdraw cash from ATMs. This is a cash advance, and you will be charged fees and interest immediately. PRO: By using a credit card for most expenses, you can carry less cash. You can also dispute erroneous transactions. And, many credit cards offer points or rewards. CON: Many, if not most credit cards have hidden surcharges for foreign exchange transactions. Look for cards that are travel-friendly. PRO TIP: The Chase Mileage Explorer Card (for United frequent fliers) and the Chase Sapphire card have no international transaction fees. TRAVELER'S CHECKS AND MONEY CARDS While mostly obsolete, traveler's checks provide more security than cash because they can be replaced if lost or stolen. These days, Visa and Travelex offer travel cards that are prepaid like traveler's checks, but work like debit cards for purchases and ATM withdrawals. CON: The exchange rate for traveler's checks is not as favorable as the interbank rate you get when using a credit or debit card, and very few merchants accept them for purchase these days. You'll incur commissions, shipping charges and/or conversion fees to purchase AND cash the checks. The prepaid cards have plenty of fees, too--activations fees, reloading fees, ATM charges, and even inactivity fees. In most cases you're better off using your own debit card. Thank you for watching and please...like, subscribe, comment and share. Ruble hits new highs against US dollar (24.04.2017)

02:29
Traders' risk appetite is gradually recovering. Today, investors focused their attention on the Russian ruble. The US dollar/ruble currency pair reached a fresh low of 55.81. Analysts expect the pair to fall even further amid the following factors. First of all, the election in France. Centrist Emmanuel Macron became the leader of the first round of the presidential race. This news relieved the tension over possible France's withdrawal from the EU. The second reason for the ruble's growth is the upcoming meeting of the Bank of Russia on the course of the monetary policy. Elvira Nabiullina, the head of the Russian Central Bank, stated that the regulator is ready to lower the key rate by 25-50 basis points. According to her, inflation is gradually slowing down, which indicates the need to ease the monetary policy in the nearest future. Another reason for the growth of the ruble is the peak of the tax period, which falls within the 25th and 28th of April. Meanwhile, oil prices are also growing. Today Brent crude is trading at $52.43 per barrel. It is likely that the OPEC deal will be extended as all oil producers stand for further oil production cuts aimed at easing of the global oil supply glut. However, the growth of oil prices is hindered by the increase in oil production in the United States. Despite this, WTI is trading at $50.08 per barrel. The Baker Hughes North American rig count data released on Friday showed an increase in active operating oil and gas rigs, which indicates the growth in the US inventories. Currency strategists note that this week the ruble is stronger than ever. Even a fall in oil prices cannot suppress growth of the ruble against the US dollar. https://www.instaforex.com

US dollars to be swept out of Russia

02:18
One of the world's reserve currencies, the U.S. dollar, may soon disappear in Russia. According to deputies of the State Duma, the Russians trust the dollar, despite the U.S. crisis. Russian MPs are worried that the dollar system may collapse in 2017 due to the growth of the U.S. government debt. Michael Dyagterev, politician, member of the State Duma from the Liberal Democratic Party "The main objective of the bill is to have a discussion. This is multi- task goal, one of the parts of which is to stop the entry of the dollar in Russia. The second task is to push our leaders towards making all our export operations, including oil and gas ones, in rubles. And, as the crown of the strategy, to create a global reserve currency called the ruble. There's nothing to fear. It's the Americans who should be worried. Their national debt is 17 trillion dollars, and it will grow from month to month. Buildup debt is a strategy of the American elite. Since debt is a process that has its end, then the process will end with a default or any other type of turmoil. We need to convert all reserves of the country into gold. No currency should be left there, all paper reserves are disastrous for Russia. This is also a part of the strategy that should be conducted." Should the bill on the ban of the circulation and storage of U.S. dollars in Russia be approved, the owners of American bank notes will have to either spend their dollar cash within one year or exchange it for another currency. Otherwise, banks will be forced to sell dollars at an average exchange rate of the previous year. There will be special measures provided to prevent the storage and use of dollars. The American currency will be seized by law enforcement agencies for a period of up to 30 days, and then exchanged and returned to the owner in the domestic currency. Michael Dyagterev, politician, member of the State Duma from the Liberal Democratic Party. "With regard to the dollars kept by citizens, the bill stipulated no special measures. We simply encourage people to convert all their dollar deposits in rubles, exchange all cash dollars for rubles, or some reliable currency, for example, the Swiss franc, or buy gold. In the event dollars are found, the state will pay the equivalent in rubles, dollars will be withdraw from circulation and exchanged for rubles." Will the bill come into force? It is obvious that it will trigger a vivid discussion reminiscent to the never-ending debate between Westerners and Slavophiles. And whose side are you on?

RUSSIA: MOSCOW: ROUBLE CONTINUES TO DROP AGAINST US DOLLAR

02:30
Russian/Eng/Nat The Russian rouble continues to drop against the U-S dollar, falling 0.105 in trading on the Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange (M-I-C-E-X) today to close at 6.99 roubles to the dollar. Brokers say the situation remains difficult even though the financial markets seem to have stabilised following Monday's de facto devaluation of the rouble. Meanwhile Russia's Central Bank has introduced limits on currency exchanges in a bid to stop speculators. Moscow's Interbank Currency Exchange or M-I-C-E-X has become the focus of furious rouble trading. This is not merely due to the Russian Central Bank's Monday decision to let the rouble float because it no longer had reserves to hold the currency steady. But the M-I-C-E-X has become the focus also because a simultaneous crisis in the banking sector trading on the major interbank market was suspended last week. The M-I-C-E-X opened for trading for just 35 minutes with the rouble falling to 6.99 to the U-S dollar. Dealers say the situation is uncertain. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "The situation remains difficult. It's a crisis but the situation is not getting worse. If the situation on the financial market does get worse then there will be grave social unrest and both the government and the financial institutions are concerned about this." SUPER CAPTION: Andrei Sorokin, Broker Some money exchanges on the streets have been taking advantage of the situation by charging higher rates of up to 10 roubles to the U-S dollar, taking advantage of the desperate demand for U-S dollars and the ignorance of the population. To mitigate the confusion Russia's Central Bank announced rules setting a 15 percent limit on the spreads between buy and sell rates at exchanges. But people still feel aggrieved. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "The rate has gone up and the price to buy roubles is also going up. But people's wages are staying at the same level as before. In all aspects it's very unpleasant. First of all the pensioners are suffering and those who earn very little money anyway." SUPER CAPTION: Mikhail Kupnetsov, Vox pop Previously the rouble's stabilisation had been a source of pride for the Russian leadership . Political analysts say this economic disarray is just a sign of how little President Yeltsin and the government are managing to cope. SOUNDBITE: (English) "The problem is that the government isn't in control of the situation. President Yeltsin doesn't control the situation. The situation is simply not controlled in Russia. So all that the government has done, it has unleashed a series of events. I don't think that the government and the people who were working out this decision they have correctly forecasted all the consequences." SUPER CAPTION: Viktor Kremenyuk, Political Analyst One consequence many expect is a rise in food prices. This will only happen gradually as new stocks of imported goods come onto the market. Many people shop at the markets where prices for fresh produce tend to be cheaper. But in recent years Russians have got so used to living through financial hardship, many of them seem unconcerned about the latest crisis. SOUNDBITE: (Russian) "Nothing has really changed in people's life. They are calm and are not too worried. There is some uncertainty right now but I think it should be sorted out soon and there's no reason for great concern." SUPER CAPTION: Larisa Vorobyeva, market stall holder However if food prices rise dramatically President Yeltsin will not only have a financial crisis on his hands, but a social one as well. Strong ruble stands up to US dollar

02:06
On the 7th of February, the Central Bank of Russia started the ruble's intervention. However, market participants expected it, so the news didn't cause the ruble to fall against the US dollar. The greenback/ruble currency pair is still trading below 60.00. Today the US dollar rose to 59.45 against the Russian currency. Now the ruble is supported by the CBR decision to keep interest rates unchanged. In addition, the majority of market participants believes that relations between the US and Russia wll eventually improve. Economists expect gradual correction of the ruble against the greenback, as the Central Bank distributed purchases of the national currency evenly throughout the month. Meanwhile, the Russian ruble is still under pressure amid a fall in oil prises. Today Brent crude edged down to $54.72 a barrel. Shale oil is trading at $51.66 a barrel. Oil prices slipped last night when the American Petroleum Institute's weekly report showed a large build in the US oil inventories. According to the API, the US oil stockpiles rose by 14.23 million barrels, defying economists expectations for a growth by 2.5 million barrels. Traders are on edge amid expectations for the release of the EIA report with similar data. However, analysts believe that today Brent crude will not sink below $52 a barrel. https://www.instaforex.com

Russia: Ruble continues to plummet against US dollar

02:20
The Russian ruble continued to plunge against the US dollar for a second day, Thursday. Muscovites talked about their concerns as the currency continues to reach new record lows, falling to 82 against the dollar and 91 against the euro. SOT, Ekaterina, Moscow citizen (Russian): "I have no savings so this does not affect me, it's sad because traveling [abroad] is more complicated now. Surely, it does not make me happier." SOT, Pavel, Moscow citizen (Russian): "It's difficult for me and many others because of the decrease in the value of real estate and higher food and other household expenses impact real consumption." SOT, Sergey Lucashevich, Moscow citizen (Russian): "For sure, it is influential. I planned my holidays, I cannot say that I am used to go to Europe, but I like to go there and I go there to relax and first of all for medical treatment to Karlovy Vary, in the Czech Republic. Unfortunately, but since last year [when rouble fell rapidly] I had to cancel this idea and this opportunity." 09.07.2019: Oil holds steady while ruble suffers minor losses (Brent, RUB, USD)

02:58
At the beginning of the new week oil prices held steady with a lack of any important fundamental factors. Yesterday in the afternoon, Brent prices rose above 65 dollars per barrel but retreated from this level by the end of the day. Today, the North Sea benchmark was seen at 64 dollars per barrel at the market opening. The current price seems to be lucrative from the technical point of view which may attract buyers and push the quotes higher. Brent futures with delivery in September declined by 14 cents to 63.97 dollars per barrel. Traders cautiously absorb macroeconomic statistics, fearing to see signs of the global economic slowdown. Besides, tensions in the Persian Gulf raise concerns. Yesterday, Tehran acknowledged that it had breached the uranium enrichment limit in the nuclear deal. In response, the United States is most likely to take a harsh stance in its relations with Iran and introduce retaliatory measures. As for now, Washington has increased military forces in the Persian Gulf. Today in early deals, the Russian currency was trading in the red zone following the suit of oil prices and other currencies of developing nations. At 10:20 of Moscow time the dollar-ruble pair settled near 63.75 levels, having lost 5 kopeks from yesterday. However, things may change and volatility may increase ahead of the key event of the week. On Wednesday and Thursday, Fed Chair Jerome Powell will present the semiannual monetary policy report. Besides, Mr. Powell will deliver a speech at the event that will be hosted by Boston Federal Reserve Bank today at 8:45 eastern time. Meanwhile, the US dollar strengthened as expectations of a rate cut by the Federal Reserve faded away following the upbeat jobs market report for June. Some analysts predict that the US financial regulator will reduce the federal funds rate by 25 basis points on July, 31. At the same time, other experts anticipate a rate cut no sooner than in September. Meanwhile in Russia, governor of the central bank Elvira Nabiullina admitted a possibility of a rate cut at the meeting of the Board of Governors on July 26. The key interest rate may be reduced by 50 basis points from the current level of 7.5%. Consequently, the carry-trade operations with the Russian currency will get less profitable. However, if the Bank of Russia scales down its currency interventions, it will provide support to the ruble. For the time being, the negative factor for the ruble is the seasonally adjusted fall in the current account surplus that is partially connected with the ongoing conversion of ruble-denominated dividends by foreign investors. USD hits fresh 2016 lows versus Russian ruble

02:06
On Thursday, the Russian ruble continued on its upward path against the US dollar on the back of recovering oil prices. “Black gold” headed north after the International Energy Agency revealed its outlook for 2016, predicting the largest drop in non-OPEC oil output in 25 years. Following the news, oil prices took an upward bounce as the IEA statement revived hopes for a sooner settlement of the global oversupply issue. The North Sea crude benchmark edged higher, now trading around $44.18 per barrel. It is worth mentioning that Brent has already surged by as much as 23% this year. On the forex front, commodity-bloc currencies were following in the footsteps of climbing hydrocarbon prices. The global crude market has been extremely volatile this year, swinging oil-linked currency instruments up and down. Today, the Russian ruble posted a strong performance against the greenback, supported by higher oil prices. A. Davydov comments, Oil prices, extending gains for four days in a row, pushed the US dollar to its lowest levels since the beginning of the year. The market has already absorbed the latest news about oil, so crude prices are stabilizing at the moment. With no major price triggers on the horizon, the US dollar will stay around the 65-ruble mark. End of comments In addition to oil, selling of export revenues added to the bullish tone in the ruble. Currency strategists believe that the Russian currency is set to close the trading week in positive territory versus its American counterpart. However, certain pressure can be observed in today’s deals as market players were looking to the ECB’s decision on interest rates. Traders focus on euro and ruble (25.05.2017)

01:49
Traders focus their attention on the European session. Yesterday economists expected the euro to dip down against the US dollar, but today the pair recovered to its previous highs. The single European currency is trading at 1.1224 against the US dollar. Analysts believe that the pair can correct to 1.12. Today, market participants analyze the minutes of the FOMC meeting. The officials stated that they do not plan to raise the key interest rate in the nearest future. Thus, for now the Fed' decided to adopt the same policy as the European Central Bank. However, the ECB did not left any hints on possible date of the rate hike. That situation should put pressure on the euro. Today, one of the central figures in the currency market is the ruble. On the Moscow Exchange, the US dollar/ruble pair touched a fresh low of 56.00 and then corrected to 56.29. Analysts note that the ruble is now very vulnerable, as investors are waiting for the results of the OPEC meeting. Today the oil producers will decide whether to extend the first oil production curbs in order to eliminate a glut. Experts believe that the deal will be extended for another 9 months. https://www.instaforex.com

RUB stands pressure from USD

02:01
The US dollar received a boost as the US Fed sent the message to financial markets that interest rates could be raised before the end of the year. So the greenback is advancing against its main rivals. Today, the ruble has come under pressure from the US dollar, though the Russian currency is trying to pare losses amid growing oil prices. November Brent futures are trading today at 49 US dollars 44 cents a barrel, up 0.42% from the previous close. New York-traded WTI futures for October delivery were up 28 cents at 47 dollars 26 cents a barrel. Crude prices retreated last week amid the stronger US dollar and waning hopes for a production freeze deal. Meanwhile, the Russian ruble slipped into a decline as the tax filing period in Russia is over. However, uncertainty is caused by expectations for Russia’s parliamentary elections, which are due in mid-September. Aleksander Davydov comments: The ruble still remains under pressure despite the rebound in oil prices. The Russian currency is widely expected to weaken amid growing fears ahead of the elections. However, the ruble is to keep steady in the short term on the back of big demand for government bonds thanks to their high yields. To sum up, the dollar/ruble pair is to hover at about 65. End of comments Some analysts assume the dollar/ruble pair to grow to 70 in the medium term. The week’s main event will follow on Friday when the US Labor Department will present the August nonfarm payrolls. The NPF report has a massive potential to affect the move for the US dollar in any direction and make an impact on major currencies. https://www.instaforex.com

Ruble falls against greenback and euro

01:50
On Friday, the ruble’s exchange rate is declining against the US dollar and the euro on the back of crude prices falling to 46 dollars a barrel. The tumble in the Russian currency to two-week lows against the greenback is also linked to the Kremlin’s discontent over the ruble’s strength in the summer period. At 7:50 GMT, the dollar-ruble pair was trading at 64.7 levels. Against the single European currency, the ruble was trading above 71.3 levels. According to analysts, the ruble’s fall could be slowed down by higher sell-offs among exporters paying taxes and dividends. On Friday, crude futures keep on declining after yesterday’s losing session. The data released in the US on Thursday indicated an ongoing oil glut in the market. Trading sentiment, which previously favored the ruble’s highs in July, has changed. During early trading, the Brent crude price dropped to 46.07 dollars a barrel. The Brent price is expected to sink by 3 percent over the current week. Oil quotes are supported by the US dollar’s weakness against the major currency basket. This makes dollar-denominated crude prices attractive for holders of other currencies. External factors are weighing down on the Russian financial market. Global central banks do not hurry to reconsider their monetary stance, disappointing investors. https://www.instaforex.com

Gavrilenkov: The exchange rate band is a virtual concept

04:38
It's hard to believe the forecasts that the USD/RUB exchange rate will reach 70 roubles to the dollar, commented Evgeny Gavrilenkov, Chief Economist at Sberbank CIB, in an interview with TV channel Russia 1. The exchange rate band is more of a virtual concept than anything else as every time currency exchange rates have reached their thresholds the Central Bank has widened the boundaries of the band. There is no reason to believe that the rouble will perform in the same way as such forecasts if the government continues to apply reasonable macroeconomic policies, considers Mr Gavrilenkov.

Ruble at 3-weeks high against greenback

01:36
The Russian ruble is approaching the 3-weeks high against the greenback. The dollar-ruble pair is trading at the level of 56.07. Analysts say that the ruble gathers strength as the deadline for tax repayments in Russia is coming closer. Besides, the US dollar is broadly weaker. However, the rise in the ruble’s exchange rate is limited due to falling oil prices. The Brent crude benchmark is trading at 55.41 dollars per barrel. Analysts say that oil futures will remain under pressure. Investors are concerned over the fact that the oil market is still oversupplied. Thus, according to the Baker Hughes report, the number of active drilling facilities in the United States increased by 11 units to 683 for the week ended April, 13th. On the other hand, the Energy Information Administration reported that the stockpiles of crude oil in the United States contracted by 2 million 166 thousand barrels. WTI crude oil is trading 52.82 dollars per barrel. Analysts expect the ruble to extend its gains against the greenback today. Ruble lacks momentum amid political concerns (28.06.2017)

02:14
The ruble is acting strange today. While oil prices are rising on the back of the weaker US dollar, the Russian currency is losing ground against its American counterpart. Alexandr Davydov comments: The Russian ruble depreciated in early deals after the United States accused Syria of planning a chemical attack. However, the selling pressure is easing gradually and now market participants are waiting for the EIA report on crude oil inventories. The US stockpiles of crude oil are expected to decrease which would trigger a rise in oil prices and support the Russian ruble consequently. Therefore, by the end of the day the greenback may slide to the level of 58.95 rubles. End of comments For the time being, market participants absorb the crude inventories report from the American Petroleum Institute which showed a weekly rise in stockpiles of 851 thousand barrels. It seems that investors ignore this data, waiting for the official report. The West Texas Intermediate is trading at 44.8 dollars per barrel. However, the issue of oversupplied oil market remains pressing. Traders are still concerned that the United States will continue to pump oil at breakneck pace. It poses risks to implementation of the OPEC+ agreement. Meantime, the Brent crude benchmark is resistant to such headwinds as the investor sentiment and is trading at the level of 46.61 dollars per barrel. Analysts expect this dollar-denominated commodity to end the trading day in positive territory as the US currency is broadly weaker. At the same time, some experts anticipate that the ruble will decline further against the greenback. Russia will publish no significant news which could influence the dynamics of the ruble exchange rate. Thus, the Russian currency is likely to decline amid political factors. https://www.instaforex.com/

12.07.2019: EUR likely to rebound (EUR, USD, GBP, GOLD)

02:44
The euro and the pound sterling are steadily growing. At the European session, the US dollar came under pressure again as Donald Trump may allow the Fed's currency interventions in order to weaken the exchange rate of the greenback. In the short-term, the US dollar’s growth was supported by the upbeat inflation data. However, they are unlikely to keep the US currency from its further decline. It remains weak mostly due to market expectations of the Fed’s key rate cut. During the European session, the euro/dollar pair is trading with a slight increase at 1.1256. The pair is likely to rise if it breaks out of a narrow resistance area at the level of 1.1275. The buyers’ activity may be boosted by strong bullish momentum for the euro or by further weakening of the US dollar. In May, for the first time in four months, the growth of industrial production was recorded in the euro area. The indicator increased by 0.9% after its fall in April. The annual value remained in the negative territory. Overall, forecasts for the Eurozone growth are deteriorating and the ECB may soften its monetary policy. Some analysts think that the ECB is likely to cut its key rate this summer or at least in September. The pound sterling asserts strength gradually recovering its losses. This is due to the fact that the greenback fell considerably after Powell’s gloomy comments. The strengthening of the British currency sterling is directly related to the weakness of the US dollar. Thus, buyers should be more cautious about the pound sterling rally. The GBP/USD pair is likely to make an upward correction but everything can be changed. What is more, the Bank of England may ease its monetary policy because of weak economic growth and increasing risks of no-deal Brexit. The gold rally has stopped after the release of strong US inflation data that are contrary to the Fed's dovish stance. Today, the quotes of gold are growing again having fixed above $1400 per ounce. Thus, the precious metal is likely to finish the week with gains. Demand for gold will grow while the world’s central banks are speaking in favor of the key rate cuts. Later today, the US Producer Prices report will be published. If the indicator is in line with expectations, the EUR/USD pair may gain short-term momentum. https://www.instaforex.com FX Analytics - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_analytics Forex Calendar - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_calendar Forex TV from InstaForex - https://www.instaforex.com/instaforex_tv Forex charts - https://www.instaforex.com/charts Instant account opening - https://www.instaforex.com/fast_open_live_account Forex Trading Contests - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_contests List of official InstaForex blogs: https://www.facebook.com/instaforex https://www.instagram.com/instaforex/ https://twitter.com/InstaForex #forex_news #european_session #instaforex_tv

18.03.2019: Why USD licking its wounds? (USD, JPY, AUD, RUB)

02:36
On Monday the market kicked off on a positive note. Investor confidence is pushing currency pairs in a predictable direction. The main market-moving event this week is a policy meeting of the Federal Reserve slated for Wednesday. The rate-setting committee is widely expected to remind the market that a stream of weak macroeconomic data requires a cautious approach to monetary policy. Today the US dollar index is trading under pressure at near 96.50. The index is set to extend a decline. Traders adjust their decisions for Friday’s data as the US manufacturing output contracted in February. In response to the weaker than-expected data, yields of the 10-year Treasuries sank to the lowest level in 2.5 months. Besides, the Japanese yen asserted its strength versus the US dollar. Today the currency pair settled down at near 111.50. Remarkably, the yen remains unaffected by a trade balance report from Japan. Eventually, the country posted a trade surplus in February entirely due to a sharper fall of exports. At the same time, imports slipped more than expected. Meanwhile, traders are in no hurry to sell the AUD/USD pair. The currency pair is trading higher at about 0.7110, though tomorrow the Reserve Bank of Australia is due to release the minutes of the latest policy meeting. It content is going to be bearish for the aussie dollar. The Russian ruble hit a 7-month high. The dollar/ruble pair is trading firmly lower at the level around 64.50. The ruble finds support from a variety of factors: a steady oil rally, a tax filing period in Russia, growing interest in Russia’s debt securities, expectations of softer rhetoric of the Federal Reserve, and speculative deals. The currency pair broke through technical levels, thus making traders close position by stop orders. The US currency was also losing ground in the European trade. You will find details about it in the next news release. Oil and ruble take advantage of USD weakness

02:40
Friday’s data from Baker Hughes gave a good hint to oil traders on what price could catch the interest of American oil producers so they would step up their drilling activity. For the first time in 11 weeks, experts from Baker Hughes, one of the world’s largest oil field services companies, reported a rise in the number of drilling rigs currently operating in the United States. The latest figures suggest that the number of drilling rigs increased by 4 units during the past week to reach a total of 408 rigs. The report also showed that 9 more oil rigs were put into operation last week, bringing the overall number from 316 to 325 oil drilling rigs. At the same time, the number of gas rigs continues to decline. During the previous week, WTI light sweet crude oil was testing the psychological barrier of 50 dollars a barrel. Apparently, the price approaching these levels prompted oil producers to ramp up their drilling activity. In the new trading week, ‘black gold’ is expected to resume making attempts to break above the 50-dollar threshold. There are several reasons why that may happen, the primary one being the weaker US dollar. Besides, increasingly more experts say that the balance of supply and demand for this crucial energy source will soon be restored. Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development Al Mansoori said that oil prices have every chance to reach the mark of 60 dollars a barrel this year. Crude oil was also propped up by reported disruptions to supplies from Nigeria due to the recent military attacks on the country’s oil and gas infrastructure. This news environment allowed the buyers of commodity currencies to return to the market. The Russian ruble extended gains versus its US counterpart. The pair was trading around 65.60 levels in today’s deals on the Moscow Exchange. Nevertheless, speculators trading the Russian currency are now waiting for the right moment to go long on the dollar-ruble pair. A regular policy meeting by the Russian central bank is scheduled for this Friday. The slowdown in consumer price growth favors a cut in interest rates. If the regulator decides to loosen its monetary policy stance, this would drive the foreign exchange rate of the Russian ruble somewhat lower. https://www.instaforex.com/

Russian ruble becomes too strong

01:47
Recently, the ruble has been rising at a breakneck pace, so the Bank of Russia expressed concerns over such strong performance. On the back of that, the Russian currency reduced profits against its American counterpart. Thus, the dollar-ruble pair is trading at 59.81. Analysts expect the pair to reach the level of 62. However, traders shifted their focus to other events, so the Russian currency took a back seat. Nevertheless, the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump is likely to curve the path of the dollar-ruble pair, as this event has a political background connected with anti-Russian sanctions. Investors hope to learn more about prospects of economic development rather than the foreign relations which were discussed during the latest press conference. Meanwhile, the Russian central bank provided its own outlook for economic growth. Experts predict that the Russian economy can expand by 2 percent in 2017. Moreover, the inflation rate is likely to ease, and the interest rate will probably be lowered. Russia is able to recover economic growth in the nearest term if all necessary measures are taken, economists said at the Gaidar Forum. Speaking about the ruble exchange rate, analysts say that the Bank of Russia will closely monitor dynamics of the national currency. That’s why the pair is likely to come closer to the level of 61 in the nearest term. https://www.instaforex.com/
