Event-Driven Big Data with Accumulo — Leveraging Big Data in Motion

Events define our world – designing a system that rapidly adapts and incorporates many diverse events into relevant, dynamic models produces rich, timely situational analysis. Additionally, events happen at a defined time allowing analysis to move backward and forward in time, even imaginary time with “what if” events. Accumulo allows the assembly of extremely large event sets to form a high resolution, dynamic event fabric. Key Accumulo design constructs enable high velocity, disparate events to form complex models. They include establishing a high performance flexible event data model and vocabulary with efficient indexing and complex event contexts, dynamic event versioning, managing event race conditions, event security, incorporating event confidence, and correcting event errors. Processing involves high speed messaging and flexible rule tables. Complementing this is an elastic architecture that handles unpredictable event surges and timely analysis demands across multiple nodes. Accumulo makes high event resolution possible; event-driven makes it immediately actionable. Our findings detail the ingestion and processing of billions of actual events that transform into dynamic decision models instantly available at big-data scale. Additionally, the changes over time of the events and decision models provide a rich strategic base for analytics. A working demonstration using Amazon EC2 VMs, Elastic MapReduce, and Accumulo stores summarizes the event-driven approach. VMs are available to all conference participants for future investigations.

I doubled the frame rate by using adobes "TIME WARP" effect tool In Premire Pro CC- its very convenient but does take time to render,search youtube on tutorials on how to "activate it " in adobe premier without having to use after effects, its so worth the two minutes it takes to "unlock", its possible that they fixed this by the time you're reading this or have another sweet time stretching tool, I believe FCP users would use "Optical Flow" or pay the money for the Twixtor plug in. If you're wondering how the GH4 slo mo handles, heres my lazy test results. - AUTO FOCUS: does not work, if you need that convenience, focus with Variable Frame Rate turned off first, or in a different codec setting, then switch to VFR mode, you will have to do your best to keep the same distance from your subject if camera is moving (A pain with pancake lenses, manual focus isn't much of option) or keeping high aperture and losing shallow DOF and sweet juicy Bokeh to keep everything in focus BITRATE & SHUTTER SPEEDS: 100mbps/ 24p or 30p are the only modes that allow 96FPS shooting, little did I know that the more frames, the less information for each frames, this results to about 26 +- mbps , you can't get usable color gradable footage with wide detailed shots, dynamic range is lower, or low light situations. The lowest shutter speed allowed is 100, which seems to be better in some cases VS the 180 shutter rule (doubling the frame rate number to set your shutter speed to) CONCLUSION: The 96 FPS Mode is sweet and opens up tons of fun and creativity and time wasting, so be careful! Have your shot mapped out well, don't go 96FPS happy at a wedding filming , you will have tons of footage to sort through. Each second of filming is 4X as long, its easy to forget that when you're having fun. I really wish the bitrate was higher. Maybe I will start a petition to Panasonic. If you need better color grading or quality, shoot 200mbps 60p and double it in post, it holds up much better. If you have ample light you can get great results with 100mbps / 24p 96fps VFR mode, but only with certain scenes and subjects , because they will yield wildly different results. Its a mixed bag, if you get the chance to film the same scene with each setting, I'd like to see your results side by side.

Examples of this include gait analysis, sport replays, speed and acceleration calculations and, in the case of team or individual sports, task performance analysis. The motions analysis technique usually involves a high-speed camera and a computer that has software allowing frame-by-frame playback of the video. Traditionally, video motion analysis has been used in scientific circles for calculation of speeds of projectiles, or in sport for improving play of athletes. Recently, computer technology has allowed other applications of video motion analysis to surface including things like teaching fundamental laws of physics to school students, or general educational projects in sport and science. In sport, systems have been developed to provide a high level of task, performance and physiological data to coaches, teams and players. The objective is to improve individual and team performance and/or analyse opposition patterns of play to give tactical advantage. The repetitive and patterned nature of sports games lends itself to video analysis in that over a period of time real patterns, trends or habits can be discerned. Police and forensic scientists analyse CCTV video when investigating criminal activity. Police use software which performs video motion analysis to search for key events in video and find suspects. A digital video camera is mounted on a tripod. The moving object of interest is filmed doing a motion with a scale in clear view on the camera. Using video motion analysis software, the image on screen can be calibrated to the size of the scale enabling measurement of real world values. The software also takes note of the time between frames to give a movement versus time data set. This is useful in calculating gravity for instance from a dropping ball. Sophisticated sport analysis systems such as those by Verusco Technologies in New Zealand use other methods such as direct feeds from satellite television to provide real-time analysis to coaches over the Internet and more detailed post game analysis after the game has ended. There are many commercial packages that enable frame by frame or real-time video motion analysis. There are also free packages available that provide the necessary software functions. These free packages include the relatively old but still functional Physvis, and a relatively new program called PhysMo which runs on Macintosh and Windows. Upmygame is a free online application. VideoStrobe is free software that creates a strobographic image from a video; motion analysis can then be carried out with dynamic geometry software such as GeoGebra. The objective for video motion analysis will determine the type of software used. Prozone and Amisco are expensive stadium-based camera installations focusing on player movement and patterns. Both of these provide a service to "tag" or "code" the video with the players' actions, and deliver the results after the match. In each of these services, the data is tagged according to the company's standards for defining actions. Verusco Technologies are oriented more on task and performance and therefore can analyse games from any ground. Focus X2 and Sportscode systems rely on the team performing the analysis in house, allowing the results to be available immediately, and to the team's own coding standards. MatchMatix takes the data output of video analysis software and analyses sequences of events. Live HTML reports are generated and shared across a LAN, giving updates to the manager on the touchline while the game is in progress.

When this part of your body is doing the Lions share of the power work, as it should, the legs can do what they do best, without all the garden variety injures, synergistically help with speed and navigation. In twenty five years of helping injured runners get back to it, I would have to say that the single most important anatomical part of our bodies to get right, when it comes to fluid, efficient, effortless motion is the Pelvis. In addition to performance limitations, an immobile pelvis could be the cause of any number of the garden-variety injuries we runners get. The pelvis and the hips are often spoken of together in the runner’s vocabulary, and referred to as the hips. Immobility of the pelvis often causes the hips to be poorly aligned, often held in a flexed position, making it impossible for the power that needs to be come out of this area to be manifest. I think there are some misconceptions as to how this area works when running. The word stabilization can be understood to mean ‘held’ so as not to move. I often hear that this muscle stabilizes this and that muscle stabilizes that, and don’t give it much thought. But when I go out to run the link between the word “stabilize” and the word “hold” blends in my thinking and action. Many people I’ve worked with over the years never thought to feel their pelvis moving when they run. Many have commented, “I thought that the pelvis should be still.” The pelvis becomes the lost continent. It has fallen out of awareness, gets stuck in a position, muscles that must work in concert fall out of balance. It becomes hard to contact and work with consciously. Our sitting culture compounds this issue. We want to reinstate a dynamic stabilization. That is a stability that is a product of the dynamic use and movement of the torso in relation to the hips, that is the counter-movement and twisting of the shoulders and swing of the arms to that of the opposite pelvic segment, hip and leg. So the stability is a product of the central core muscles around the spine engaging while the muscles responsible for power production are free and able to move through their specific range of motion, aiding stability and control where needed but able to relax as well. The hips could be thought of as big wheels that need to move freely in all three cardinal planes.

(IEEE Computer Society Outstanding Paper Award.) This paper presents a novel approach to incrementally estimating visual motion over a sequence of images. We start by formulating constraints on image motion to account for the possibility of multiple motions. This is achieved by exploiting the notions of weak continuity and robust statistics in the formulation of the minimization problem. The resulting objective function is non-convex. Traditional stochastic relaxation techniques for minimizing such functions prove inappropriate for the task. We present a highly parallel incremental stochastic minimization algorithm which has a number of advantages over previous approaches. The incremental nature of the scheme makes it truly dynamic and permits the detection of occlusion and disocclusion boundaries.

Clark Professor Departments of Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Orthopaedic Surgery Stanford University The outcomes of treatments performed to correct movement abnormalities are variable. This problem exists, in part, because the biomechanical causes of the abnormal movement patterns are unclear, and the effects of common treatments are not understood. I believe that the design of treatments will improve if computer simulations are developed that elucidate the causes of movement abnormalities and predict the functional consequences of interventions. This presentation will describe a range of computer simulations that provide insights into the dynamics of human walking and running and the mechanics of common gait abnormalities. Biography Scott Delp graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University. He worked in Hewlett Packard's computer graphics group before beginning graduate school at Stanford University. Delp received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford and in 1990 joined the faculty of Northwestern University and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. He returned to Stanford in 1999, and in 2002 became the Founding Chairman of Stanford's Bioengineering Department. Professor Delp's work draws on computational mechanics, biomedical imaging, and neuromuscular biology to improve treatments for individuals with physical disabilities. He has led the development of software systems (SIMM and OpenSim) that enable simulation of human and animal movements; these software systems have become the platform for an international collaboration involving hundreds of research centers. Delp has invented technologies for surgical navigation, microendoscopy, and optogenetics. Delp has received numerous awards for his work, including a National Young Investigator Award from NSF and a Technology Reinvestment Award for which he was honored by President Clinton. He is currently the James H. Clark Professor of Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford.
