Creating an Employee Development Plan for Improved Employee Performance

05:29
The old expression, “failing to plan is planning to fail" also applies to employee development. In my recent article (http://www.optimusperformance.ca/managing-employees-for-change-improved-productivity/) about a leaders' struggle to deal with employees being resistant to change, I wrote that strategic planning for employee development is a practice that a leader must undertake to avoid this dilemma. Developing a human resource or employee development plan is often the responsibility of the human resource department if there is one. From my perspective, it's the leader’s responsibility because the leader is accountable for the performance of the department and each employee. Here is my list of things for the leader or manager to do to develop a strategic plan for employee development..... 10 Employee Retention Resolutions

04:37
http://blog.hr360.com/hr-blog/10-employee-retention-resolutions-new-year-video Video Highlights: 00:13 Employee retention has a huge impact on your bottom line–and now is a great time to make some employee retention resolutions that will pay off all year long. 00:45 Poor employee retention can be a pricey problem for any business. High turnover rates result in lost productivity and additional expenses such as recruiting, hiring, and training replacement employees. 01:21 Hire smart. Taking the time to draft job descriptions, recruit candidates, and interview thoroughly will pay off. 01:34 Offer a fair and competitive compensation package. Know the norm for the position, your industry, and your area of the country. 01:47 Offer an attractive benefits program, including items such as medical insurance, a 401(k) or other retirement savings plan, or even perks such as subsidized health club memberships. 01:58 Train and mentor your employees. Help them set goals for both their role in the company and overall career, and provide support to help them get there. 02:14 Put a priority on work/life balance for your employees. This can take the form of flexible work hours or even the ability to work at home for some positions. 02:31 Recognize employee achievements and contributions that go over and above regular job performance. You can do this through regular, formal programs, such as “Employee of the Month,” or on an ad hoc basis. 02:49 Leadership opportunities are also great motivators for empowering employees and increasing satisfaction. Give your employees the chance to take ownership of projects and to be engaged at higher, strategic levels when possible. 03:03 Offer regular feedback throughout the year on performance rather than holding it all for the formal review. This gives your employees the opportunity to change or amend any shortfalls or issues, and reduces the likelihood that they will be unpleasantly surprised at review time. 03:18 Solicit feedback from employees through such means as employee attitude surveys where employees can give confidential feedback on their opinions of your company in terms of satisfaction with the job, and suggestions on how their jobs and work environment might be improved. 03:44 Foster teamwork both in and out of the office. You can engage in formal team-building training at work, or coordinate outside opportunities such as a company softball league or recreational outings.

Strategy Development Simplified: What Is Strategy & How To Develop One? ✓

53:59
✅Join me and 5,000 others at LIG so I can show you how you can transform your career. Registrations are now open again; https://goo.gl/Z95zVB Watch next: One Simple Talk That May Change Your Career and Life: https://youtu.be/R-PAfs_4un8 In this month's episode, I teach you various layers of strategy and how to use strategy tools. What I’d like to do in about 45 minutes to an hour is to give you a sense of what strategy is, what tools we use to develop strategy, and then teach you how to apply these corporate level tools to our day to day lives through developing strategic thinking abilities. So if you take this mini-course, by the end of it, you’ll very clearly learn what strategy is and its various levels such corporate strategy, business strategy, and functional strategies. You will no longer confuse it with tasks or goals, then you will learn about Strategy Canvas with value curves. It’s a tool that will help you see the bigger picture, help you with the positioning of your offerings and hence develop strategies to become… unique. And while I am teaching you these, I’ll run so many case studies to make it crystal clear for you. Then finally, the second half of the video will be the most useful part to you. Because in reality, you are probably not the strategy manager or the CEO of a large multinational company, you are probably not Coca Cola’s Chairman, so what I did at the 2nd half of the video is to customize strategy development so it can be applicable to your day to day lives. You will learn how to develop a strategic thinking that will apply to your work, apply to your family life, your school, in simple terms; your life. You’ll be a smarter person, because you’ll be more strategic in your thinking, you’ll have more success because you’ll be able to identify more opportunities, you’ll fail less because you’ll be able to identify risks even before they become apparent. And I’ll try my best to do the impossible and cover everything under 1 hour and make it super easy to understand. I’ll try but let’s see if I’ll succeed. So, what is strategy; Strategy is a word that gets used a lot and often in a wrong context. Most people confuse it with goals. Essentially, strategy is a roadmap to how we are going to win. Where you are is your “as-is” state, and where you want to go is your “to-be” state. How you are going to bridge that gap is your strategy. So, if I was to teach strategy to my children I’d say, you wanna reach the finish line first. You may walk straight to the finish line at 5 kms per hour, Or you may extend your route, take more time as you have to travel more distance, but collect the speed boost on the way so you go faster at the end at around 20 km per hour. Collecting that speed boost to win would be your strategy. now let’s get back to the adult world, in business, we have 3 major layers of strategy; We have Corporate Strategy We have Business Strategy And we have Functional strategy So, let’s start with corporate strategy;

7 Strategies for Overcoming Resistance to Change

04:07
Originally posted: http://forwardfocusinc.com/inspire-leaders/7-strategies-for-overcoming-resistance-to-change-in-the-workplace/ Recently I discussed the challenges and attributes of high performing teams. In modern organizations with flatter hierarchical structures, these high impact teams are smaller, more agile, and themselves structured to benefit from individual specialization without regard for a ‘pecking order’. Even though these teams are designed to provide maximum flexibility in a constantly changing environment, it is likely that an organization will still experience resistance to change. Overcoming resistance to change in the workplace doesn’t have to be a constant battle. Even though change is ever present, both in the market and within organizations transition does not need to be a struggle, especially regarding those that will help the team in the long run. With a forward looking and proactive strategy, resistance to change is first reduced and then eliminated. 7 things to do to eliminate resistance to change Leadership is an organizational imperative when managing change, and leaders who inspire a cultural shift in their staff have the greatest success in managing change. In a 2013 PwC survey, nearly two thirds of staff surveyed felt that a top leader is in charge of change management and almost half felt that top leaders should be in charge of cultural change. The good news here is that the same number of people who felt that cultural change is also their responsibility. The bad news is that only 14% saw any responsibility for change management falling on their shoulders. The harsh reality is that effective change is determined by having in place a corporate culture conducive to change. It is here that inspirational leadership in flat hierarchical structures is, perhaps, at its most potent. Here are seven strategies for overcoming resistance to change in the workplace: 1. Structure the team to maximize its potential Give team members appropriate roles and responsibilities that use skills to their best advantage, while also providing the potential for personal and team development. 2. Set challenging, achievable, and engaging targets Be clear in guidance about goals and targets. Break change projects into smaller milestones, and celebrate achievements. Goals should be seen as progressive and in line with values and beliefs. 3. Resolve conflicts quickly and effectively Utilize the seven methods of care-fronting to regulate and control communicative breakdowns. Encourage openness and honesty and engender an environment of mutual trust and respect. 4. Show passion Communicate passionately and be an example of belief in the future vision. When other people see leaders’ behaviors emulating those required by change, they more quickly come into line with the new behaviors and become change advocates themselves. 5. Be persuasive Engage employees in change by being an energized leader. Focus on opportunities and persuade rather than assert authority. Share experiences as you persuade change through stories that focus on positive change. 6. Empower innovation and creativity Give opportunities for feedback and remain flexible as you alter course toward your change goals. Encourage people to be creative, discover solutions to unfolding problems, and to become part of the change process. The process is difficult for everyone involved, and your team will be more invested with solutions they have created themselves, rather than those dictated to them. 7. Remain positive and supportive People find change unsettling, even though change is a constant in personal lives as well as professional environments. They will need the support of a positive leader who inspires free thought, honest communication, and creativity as personal and team development is encouraged. Employees expect leaders to manage change. Inspirational leaders create a culture where change becomes the responsibility of all. Contact Forward Focus today to discuss our Management Development Series, including our Energy Leadership Program that helps develop high performing managers into inspirational leaders.

Employer Engagement Strategies and Effective Job Development: A Multidimensional Approach

01:07:35
By Nancy Brooks-Lane, M.S., LPC, LMFT Work is the most effective and efficient means for individuals with and without disabilities to have a life of meaning, connections, and value. Work also forms the bridge to a life “well-lived”. While definitions of employer engagement vary based on programmatic beliefs, recent practices have illuminated methodologies that result in quality outcomes when developing interest-based jobs. Best-practices in competitive and integrated employment will form the structure for this training while story telling will humanize examples of quality outcomes. Additionally, we will examine the principles from which we provide support to individuals with disabilities to have a life that includes work. Nancy Brooks-Lane’s diverse skills include: training, technical assistance and side by side mentoring in best practices; organizational and system change strategic planning; and aligning policy, funding, and change. She has assisted persons with significant disabilities obtain customized employment or start their own business and has mentored, trained and provided technical assistance to self-advocates, families, providers, citizen advocates, funders and social and political leaders in the processes of best practices and system change. https://rrtc.vcu.edu/

Entrepreneur People Skills | Employee Development

01:56
http://jerrymitchellblog.com/ INTERVIEWER: So it's, in a lot of ways, people skills that differentiate... JERRY: I think it's the personality. I think there's people that are born with different genes that have different charismatic leadership things. They have all these charts with dominance, non-dominant and all the other things. I don't think leaders dominate; I think that's what's wrong. They're not dictators. All my leadership skills, I've always delegated to other people the responsibility to do things. And I nurture them because I know they fail. I fail. But it's like flying a kite. You let it go out in the air and once in awhile you've got to pull it back in. Sometimes you've got to put a tail on that kite. That's what you should do when you're developing people. I think entrepreneurs and leaders develop people. I don't think managers develop people. I think they develop systems to make the people work within a system. I think Dilbert hit that very carefully in what he's talked about management. Again, there is no management training. If someone's been in a company X number of years, we promote them to supervisor. After awhile, then he's a manager, and very little training is going into how you're going to train that person. An entrepreneur is born that way, and he learns a lot of stuff from watching. He's very observant about all those things, and he's very focused. He doesn't focus on the bottom line. He focuses on how is his vision going to come to fruition? He's got to open up his mind to other people, and I think he does, because he brings people -- I think entrepreneurs and leaders bring in people that complement their weaknesses. If you go into a hierarchy company in a major corporation, it's who gets a light switch on a wall or who gets the best furniture in there based on their structure in a company. You don't find that in entrepreneur companies. Everyone's equal. A clerical person is as equal as the president of the company. You don't treat people differently. I think once that changes, that's why people leave a company. Here’s another video from the Skillopedia bucket. This video talk about essential skills every employee must have to be a success at work and become the asset to the organisation. Want to be known as a good employee? Want to be an inspiration to your colleagues then I suggest you avoid certain things at work because certain behaviours can be damaging to your image at work. If you behave properly and maintain good conduct .. you will earn the trust of every person you work. Today we will discuss the things that good employees avoid doing at work Gossip is a no. It can be very tempting to discuss others at work, the behaviour of colleagues, their habits, personality, dress sense .. but really is that necessary? Is it going to create value? I do t think so. You must avoid gossip at any cost. Gossip is waste of time. It’s productive, it can lead to conflict and gives people a bad impression of you. Avoid getting defensive It's easy to get defensive when you are given feedback or get angry or get annoyed but that does not lead to a resolution of the matter. If you receive feedback to take it constructively .. try to work on it. If you don't think the feedback is correct still do not get defensive .. try to make the changes that are asked of you and if you still receive the same feedback again and again ..politely put forward your point of view ..Humility and hard work should be your motto not defensiveness .let your work speak for itself, not your justification. Avoid complaining Complaining and cribbing show a weak personality and a sensitive ego that is easily hurt. Complaining is bad for your health and your career. Those employees who command respect never do it. Complaining creates negativity and spoils the work environment.. if you are a chronic complainer then you will lose the respect of your colleagues and they may even avoid you. Each time one can't receive accolades and praise.. there are times when we are given tough tasks and criticism but you have to learn to roll with the punches .. don't stoop down to complaining, make yourself stronger. Avoid being selfish. Be contributive - Good employees take on responsibility not just for their job but also for their team and the betterment of their company. Good employees don't act selfish .. they contribute always even if it's not their direct responsibility. They are driven by the need to create value in whatever way they can .they don't ever say " that's not my job " yet at the same time if they are unfairly overburdened by other people's work they politely refuse! Avoid aggression Good employees don't lose their cool, they don't get aggressive and have outbursts. You won't hear about them storming out of a meeting. No phone slamming. No destroying someone's good name. No finger pointing. No shouting. And yes no abusing. Patience is hard, takes practice but still, it matters the most, mutual respect and dignified conduct will make you a good employee.

How to create a high performance culture | Andrew Sillitoe | TEDxRoyalTunbridgeWells

13:09
Business Psychologist Andrew Sillitoe explores why some people rise to the top 20% in their field starting with research into why young people stay engaged with sport throughout their teens. Engaging others to operate at their full potential may be less of a mystery than we think – listen to Andrew’s story about what he learnt on the road playing street hockey and what it takes to create a high performance culture. All TEDxRoyalTunbridgeWells videos recorded by Graham Hobbs, Clockhouse Productions. http://www.clockhouse.co.uk/ When Andrew Sillitoe was 9 his mum bought him a street hockey stick. An unusual gift for an English boy living in the South East of England, but in that moment, his life would never be the same. He is now one of the most recognisable names in the inline hockey scene, both as a player and coach. Andrew studied an MSc in Organisational Psychology from Birkbeck University. He wrote his first book Managing the Mist How to develop winning mind-sets and create high performing teams in 2013. Andrew helps organisations achieve commercial success by creating teams with purpose. He passionately believes that a team with purpose is more innovative, diverse and agile to any organisation. He lives in Royal Tunbridge Wells with his wife Lucie and their two daughters Izzie and Freya. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Your employees should be your biggest assets and if they are not I want to help fix that with behavior modification strategies. I guarantee that with my employee development and training program, my human resources training courses and my leadership and management skills education you will take your business or organization to new profits and much higher success levels. My name is author Robert Kintigh and I have been an entrepreneur for over 22 years. I want to help you, transform your employees into a team by using what I call behavior modification techniques so that you can learn to enjoy and appreciate your company more and make more money. What is behavior modification or behavior modification strategies? This book and series is a combination of leadership management, the best employee training programs, training your human resources and managers these techniques and more importantly, striking at the root of the problem which is modifying their behavior and motivating in a new way. The best types of employee training programs are going to be based on leadership training and proper motivation. Quit complaining, quit giving up and start celebrating because once you read Introduction Employee Behavior Modification and the rest of the series, You will start training and developing employees in an entirely new way and no longer will you have the same frustrations your competitors will. The training has to start with an executive leadership development program because it is going to be up to you and the other executives to create a new synergy, new environment and a new team that will function as one and not as fragmented pieces. We will begin to teach you employee coaching instead of employee managing which will in turn increase employee Productivity. Have you ever had any of these challenges? • Employees who are always coming in late? • Employees who are just there to do their job and go home? • Unproductive employees who you pay 8 hours and produce 5 ½ hours of work? • Employees who seem unmotivated? • Have employees who are always frustrated and uptight? • Have a lot of turn over with employees? • Struggle to understand your employees' motivation? • Struggle to grow your business? • Feel like your employees always need to be told what to do? One day I went on a quest to solve these challenges and decided that I had to dig in and figure everything out with why I was having so many issues. Even better, I wanted to know how I could help my company & my employees become better and make more money. The results I obtained were amazing. When I took the time to realize and pay attention to these issues it was amazing what turned around and how different my company became. I went on to perfect everything and I transitioned my employees into a team and created a culture that paid huge dividends. If you are like I was, you might think that the old way of dealing with employees still is the way to go but I am here to tell you that it is not the right way to go. Today is a whole new business environment and you need to join me in the new world instead. The solution I have for you is Employee Behavior Modification which is the new world way of creating a team, enforcing the behavior you desire and so much more. I will help you avoid common mistakes such as being a manager instead of a leader, enforcing the behaviors you do not desire and making all of the decisions for your team. I will teach you leadership skills, how to empower your team and why you want to teach your team to be self-managers. The first thing I want you to do is order Introduction to Employee Behavior Modification book & start reading it in its entirety.
