What affects Commodity Prices? http://www.contracts-for-difference.com/markets/Commodity-CFDs.html If you've found this video useful, please click the like button and share it with your friends and remember to SUBSCRIBE to remain up-to-date! This article features factors that affect commodity prices - just what does cause the price of wheat gold and oil to fluctuate? Find out by clicking the above link to see all of the factors that change commodity prices. If you want to trade on the value of commodities, you can do so in several different ways. There are spot and future markets, but most traders will use a more convenient tool, such as spreadbetting, in order to play on the volatility of commodities. There are many companies that are heavily dependent on particular commodities. For instance, petrol refineries need crude oil, and this price typically changes. So you can expect the price of crude oil to have an impact on the share price of companies like Royal Dutch Shell and BP. Even if you do not trade commodities, this is a reason you may be interested in what causes commodity prices to change. And put simply, the old standby of the economist, supply and demand, govern all the fluctuations in pricing of commodities. This is not to say that supply and demand are equally important for all types of commodities. For instance, some are more dependent on supply, whereas others have a dependency on a varying demand. Consider agricultural products. These include products like wheat and corn. You're probably not going to see a big change in demand for these products, so much as you are going to see large changes in supply. These would result from crop failures and disease, weather conditions, etc. On the other hand, the supply of metals such as gold and platinum is fairly steady at any particular time. A more powerful factor in the pricing of these is how much demand there may be, and demand changes result from increasing industrialization in Third World countries, making these metals more desirable to the population, and from societal aspects such as inflation that tend to change the attitude towards precious metals. It is worth noting that the price of commodities in certain groups tends to move up and down in tandem. In the precious metals, gold, silver, platinum, and palladium would all tend to go up and down together in value. It is unlikely that you would see the price of gold fall and the price of palladium soar at the same time. Similarly, if you consider grains such as oats, corn, and wheat, these prices are likely to move in concert. To some extent, each can be a substitute for another. If the price of oats goes up, then farmers may buy more corn to feed their livestock, and this increase in demand for corn makes that price rise too. Although we are talking about commodities, you can also see this in effect in some stocks and shares. As an example, you would usually see the shares of banks such as RBS and Barclays going up and down together, unless there is a particular scandal or revelation about one of them. It is because of this that many traders limit the amount of exposure in any particular market sector. Diversifying by buying into different companies does not give diversfication if all the companies' shares rise and fall together.

5 Factors You Didn't Know That Truly Influence "Gold Prices" | Investing 101 ANIMATION

03:40
Since the ancient time, people have shown an obsession to gold. Except for an obvious correction in 2008, gold price has appreciated consistently since 1999, reaching its peak in 2011. After being unpegged with the US dollar, gold price is mainly affected by the demand and supply factor. Therefore, it is important to understand the different factors which can affect gold price before we invest in it. As an investor, Jack wants to diversify his portfolio’s risk, so he decided to include gold in his portfolio in order to hedge market risk and inflation. He frequently hears from the news that Indian festivals and the ETF transactions will affect gold price. So whenever there is related news, Jack will pay more attention and seek for an opportunity to enter the market. However, Jack noticed that his strategy is resulting into loss mainly because there are other factors to be considered when investing in gold. First of all, Indian festivals actually have minimal effect on gold price. Traditionally, many people think that Indian festivals have a strong demand for gold. But in reality, the demand is really limited and it does not cause much effect on gold price Furthermore, the global inventory level of gold in ETF is less than 0.5%. Therefore, any fluctuation on the ETF transactions would only lead to a minimal effect on gold price. In fact, there are five more important factors as listed below: 1) US dollar Since gold is priced in USD when USD appreciates, gold price will drop correspondingly. Assuming Jack wants to invest in gold. Initially, 100 USD can only buy 100 Oz of gold. Due to expectation of USD appreciation we can buy 120 Oz of gold with the same price tomorrow. As a result, the attractiveness of gold will decline today. 2) Inflation When inflation take place, the corresponding currency will depreciate, metal and commodities will then become relatively more valuable. Traditionally, gold seldom depreciate in terms of real value, so it has been used as a tool to hedge inflation risk 3) War, Natural Disasters When there are wars or natural disasters, people will sell their asset including local currency and subsequently buy safe-haven assets. With funds flowing to safe-haven assets, gold price will conversely appreciate. 4) Economics When a country enters recession, people will lose confidence in their local currency. Funds will naturally look for risk-averse assets, therefore bringing gold price up. 5) Domestic interest rate Take USD for example, when the US government raises interest rate, we can earn interest when we invest in USD. On the other hand, gold as a commodity will not generate any interest. As a result, the attractiveness of gold drops when interest rate rises. Let’s say Jack is deciding to invest in USD or gold, if US dollar provides 1% of interest payment per annum but no interest gain in gold. He will naturally invest in USD. Therefore, it is important to understand the different factors which can affect gold price before we invest in it. =============================== YouTube: https://youtube.com/channel/UCc33m48vLcYXxgfnwtytK-g Facebook: https://facebook.com/161384107682138

What Makes Stock Prices Move Up and Down

03:16
To understand what makes stocks and shares price move you must first understand a few things about the current pricing of a stock. At any given time during regular trading hours a stock has 3 values associated with it. A bid, an ask, and a current price. The bid is the highest amount someone is currently willing to pay for a share of stock, while the ask is the lowest amount someone is currently willing to accept for a share of stock. Each number will usually be shown next to the number of shares the investor is offering or asking for. The price of a stock at any given time is simply the last price a share of that stock sold for. Usually the bid and the ask are relatively close to the current share price. The difference between the bid and the ask is called the spread and it is usually healthier for a stock to have a smaller spread. Now we will talk about what makes the price of stock change. If you have ever taken a beginners economics course you probably remember learning about supply and demand. The concept is quite simple. If there is a larger supply of a product than there is demand, the price will likely drop. If there is a greater demand and not enough supply to match, than the price will probably rise. This is also true with stocks and shares. As was explained in lesson 1, the stock market is a literal market where a product, namely ownership of a company, is bought and sold. This means it runs on similar economic principles. If there are a lot of investors trying to sell a stock, and a much smaller number of investors looking to buy that same stock, the price will of the stock will begin dropping. Let’s look closer at the reasoning behind the price drop by creating a mini-market with five people; John, Jessica, Jeremy, Janet, and Jimmy. We will pretend that all five of these investors own 100 shares of stock in Company A. One day they find out that Company A messed up on a new product and it will be delayed for a year. Four of them decide to sell their shares in the company and put them up for sale. Unfortunately, due to the news, there is only one investor that is interested in buying the stock for its current price. John sells his shares, but that leaves Jessica, Jeremy, and Janet, all with shares they still would like to sell. There is nobody willing to buy at the current price, but one investor has offered to buy at a price $1 lower than the current price. Jessica sells to the investor, and the current stock price adjusts to show a current worth that is $1 less than before. If Jeremy and Janet decide to sell as well, they may push the current price even lower as they seek to find investors to purchase their shares of stock. Sometimes when a company announces extremely bad news you can see the worth of a single share of stock drop more than 50% in a single day. Market Has “Given Up” On Silver, So What’s Next?

06:01
The silver market has been “stagnating” and needs renewed investor interest before prices recover and the gold-silver ratio drops below 80, said David Morgan editor of The Morgan Report. “What’s going on is stagnation in the market. There hasn’t been any fresh buying, there’s been a lot of stale longs that have given up on the silver story,” Morgan said. On supply and demand fundamentals, Morgan noted that due to low silver prices, the mining level has subsided but above-ground stockpiles of silver have increased. _________________________________________________________________ Kitco News is the world’s #1 source of metals market information. Which Markets To Trade? Trading Commodities 👍

08:43
Which Markets To Trade? Trading Commodities http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/commodities/commodities-spread-betting.html PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE! Commodities like sugar, soybean and wheat are an asset class that you may have thought out of your reach but given spread betting there might never have been a better time to start trading commodities. In these volatile times you can use spread betting, futures, options and CFDs to access commodities trading and make money out of trading them in much the same way that you do spread betting on gold or crude oil. It is also worth noting here that sugar is one of the most liquid soft commodities you could spread bet on with a bid-offer of about $1.7. Trading Commodities Finally in this short review of the markets you can trade, you can consider trading on commodities. Commodities are usually traded in large quantities, and trading volume is high, which means they are readily available, even though you may find higher spreads than with some other markets. Commodities include a whole host of items. One of the most well-known is crude oil, which actually comes in two variations, West Texas and Brent. The price of oil can be affected by many world matters. OPEC is in control, but you can find political situations where countries can reduce their output or increase it, with a corresponding effect. In fact, we don’t have many days supply of oil in store at any particular time, so the price is responsive to market impacts. Longer-term oil prices are affected by the severity of winters, increasing efficiencies, shale oil production, and demand such as that from China, with its expanding economy. Another well-known commodity that can be traded readily is gold. The price of gold has been less volatile recently than historically, but can still give opportunities. Gold is always regarded as a safe haven for cash when it seems that cash is becoming worth less and stocks and shares are in a down market. Threats of war seem to cause a rush to physical wealth such as gold. Again, you can use technical analysis techniques to anticipate possible moves. Along with gold, silver is another precious metal that has much the same characteristics, even though it is significantly cheaper than gold. If you chart gold and silver together you will quite often find they move in concert. The interesting thing is that their characteristics are very different. Most of the gold that has ever been mind is still available in some form such as jewellery. But very little of the total production of silver is still around. Silver is used in industrial processes, and was notably used extensively for photography in the last century. It gets used up, and companies that need it are always looking to buy it on the futures market in order to lock in the price. Even so, gold and silver prices tend to be in a fixed ratio over the years. There are many other commodities. All the soft commodities include the agricultural products such as corn, wheat, hogs, and cattle. Obviously these prices are seasonal and are also affected by the weather. You’ll find that the prices tend to have wider spreads than the hard goods. Whatever market you decide to trade in, you are spoiled for choice. But if you change your focus from week to week, as you find it difficult to make money in your latest slot, the danger is that you will never learn any of the markets and be unable to trade effectively. You need to focus for a time on particular markets and get to know them. Every trader has strengths and weaknesses, and in time you will find a market that is best suited to your style of trading.

Indonesian Officials Attempt to Stabilize Commodity Prices

02:05
On to Indonesia, where the prices of commodities are skyrocketing. But as our correspondent reports... one government program is trying to change that. Indonesia's Minister of Trade and the Vice Governor of Jakarta were out and about Saturday to see how a campaign called the "Market Operation of Rice" was going. The "Market Operation of Rice" is a program created by the Indonesian government to prevent more price increases of rice across the country. The way the program works is that it sets a fixed price to sell the rice... and traders at markets like these are expected to sell the grain for whatever that established price may be. The program is expected to gradually normalize the price of rice and other basic commodities. During the inspection, the Minister of Trade also talked with a number of traders to get a sense of how the program is working for them. The Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics recorded a significant price increase of basic commodities during the month of July. They noted that the price of cayenne pepper increased by more than 50%... and red chili more than 45%. Even beef costs the same as chili pound for pound. Indonesia's Papua region experienced the most significant price increases of 500% to 700%. The increases were allegedly triggered by the increase of electricity rates in early July, followed by the increase of toll road fees in mid-July. [Siti Aminah -- Jakarta Citizen] "Yeah, it's tough for us, especially as I am a retired, although I have no dependent children, but for myself it was quite tough, because all of the prices have increased. Like electricity tariff, basic commodities prices." [Setiajaya -- Jakarta Citizen]: "Hopefully the price can decrease as soon as possible. " In the near future, the "Market Operation of Rice" will also be implemented in Banten, North Sumatra, and various other areas that show signs of significant price increases. Inflation, Dollar Pushing Increase in Commodity Prices

02:05
Uganda Bureau of statistics says that the depreciation of the dollar has led 6.5% increase in the producer price index for manufactured goods for the year ending June 2015 compared with the year that ended June 2014. The overall producer price index for hotels and restaurants rose by 15.5% in FY 2014/2015 compared to the 12.4% rise in financial year 2013. The research based on a sample of 100 hotels across the country that earn more that Shs10m monthly indicated average change in prices that service providers receive for their services. The 6.5% and 15.5% increased in producer price index is attributed to the dollar crisis in the country caused by numerous factors like the crisis in South Sudan, increased imports inflow among other factors have led to this. The trend indicates that if structural issues affecting Uganda’s productivity and competitiveness are not addressed, the country is destined for tougher times.

G20 Conference: Commodity Price Volatility [Part 1]

07:00
Can Free Markets Still Feed and Power the World? Commodity price volatility has wildly increased in recent years. This has had severe economic and political consequences. Remedies for these problems vary greatly. Some insist primarily on increasing global production; others emphasize extending liberalised trade; others still stress the need to limit the destabilizing effects of derivative markets. But exactly how serious is the production problem? The conference was chaired by Javier Blas (Commodities Editor, Financial Times). Panelists included: - Pierre Jacquet (Chief Economist, Agence Française deDéveloppement, tasked by President Nicolas Sarkozy to report to the G20 summit on commodity price volatility); - Marc Mourre (Managing Director and Vice-chairman for commodities, Morgan Stanley) - Richard Gower (Policy Advisor, Oxfam UK) - Tony Venables (Professor at Oxford University specialised in commodities and ancient chief economist for DFID) Part four of a six part series organized as part of the French Presidency of the G20 in partnership with the Financial Times, the London School of Economics and Political Science, Chatham House, the Franco-British Council and the Institut français : (1) The reform of global governance (2) The reform of the international monetary system and financial regulation (3) Commodity price volatility (4) Governance of the Internet (5) Africa and development (6) Climate change

This Metal Is Your Best Bet Right Now Says Commodities Trader

07:01
Silver has the best potential for growth of all the metals, according to Andrew Hecht, author of the Hecht Commodities Report. Hecht noted that the gold-silver ratio is at the highest level since 1993, and while the white metal has been a laggard to its gold counterpart lately, it has the potential to see sudden moves. “Silver is very disappointing, but silver is one of those metals that just likes to sit there and do nothing and then all of a sudden move. I need to see silver get above $15.07 an ounce on a technical basis to validate the recent move in gold, and it just hasn’t wanted to do that,” Hecht told Kitco News. Hecht said that silver’s current price is positioned to stage a rally but like all precious metals, investment demand is needed to drive the path of least resistance of price. “I would buy silver on a tight stop because on a percentage basis it’s got the biggest chance to move significantly higher if these metals are going to go higher, and the stop level probably for silver is below the $14.40 level,” he said. _________________________________________________________________ Kitco News is the world’s #1 source of metals market information. I know you are scared to -- but you must and I will show you how... Walt Disney Co this last week hiked single-day admission prices at its U.S. theme parks by up to 9.6 percent, the fifth increase since 2009. Airlines have raised their prices Lowest cost provider Southwest Airlines (LUV, news) recently raised the average price of a round-trip flight by $10, citing higher jet-fuel costs. Kimberly-Clark HuggiesA 6% increase General Motors Price increase: An average of $123 per vehicle. Average transaction prices for vehicles have since climbed above $31,000 from $28,050 in 2008, according to Edmunds.com. Cotton prices are up more than 85% from a year ago, and clothing manufacturers and retailers have felt the spike. McDonald's Price increase: Prices of all menu items are up 1% or more. Reason: Rising commodity costs. McDonald's (MCD, news) described its March price increases as a preview of what was to come. You think you can't raise your prices because Competition Consumers don't have money You will lose business In 2008 when economy contracted the biggest mistake everyone made was to reduce price. Volumes were shrinking and so what you did was you lowered price and lost volumes. Do the math -- it doesn't work....your cost are going up, your volumes came down and you lowered your price You are told most Americans are still pinching pennies, Reports that companies like JC Penney, Sears and Kolhs that raise prices risk the wrath of their customers. But the truth is these companies are getting killed because of they waste the customer's time and don't offer an positive experience worth paying extra for Just yesterday I went to a party planner -- I walked in and he said -- I'll be 10 minutes. Where are the higher quality goods for a party? The guy didn't know what he was doing - didn't know how to communicate- couldn't answer my questions......what did I do -- I went and bought all my goods at another place. "One of the early behaviors reported by the media in the downturn was consumers trading down from higher- to lower-priced products. But that isn't everyone and its not now! You must raise your prices Better Customers Happier Customers Allows your company to be able to service people Pay your people more! You must raise your prices -- I don't care if you raise them $1 Raise them today.... Banks and Media don't know how to raise price and will tell you its risky ------Example Typically, at this point we'd be much farther along, but recovering from a financial-led recession takes anywhere from seven to 10 years, and we're still a ways away," said Sam Bullard, senior economist at Wells Fargo. Under pressure to maintain profit margins, firms have focused on cutting costs to the bone and hoarding cash rather than using it to hire workers or invest. The thing to do now is to raise your prices and invest money in teaching your people how to do so. How can Disney hike prices by much more than the inflation rate because of its unique offering - an experience customers can't easily match elsewhere. How about Apple --- "If you're talking about the Wal-Marts of the world, the supermarkets and big box stores, it's fair to say they have relatively little pricing power," because they offer nothing.... Homes -- Raize your price Massage -- Raise your price Family counselors raise your price schools for kids -- raise your prices Anything housing -- raise your pricese Tiffany & Co implemented price increases in early 2013, in part to contend with higher diamond prices, but that did not prevent it from selling more high-end jewelry. Price is a myth When you offer solves and problem they will pay the price Use price to drive traffic not to close deals Use packaging to raise your prices Raise your prices - Higher prices are good for everyone.
