Indicative Votes: round 2 | Brexit LIVE

07:05:25
BRITAIN faces a Brexit moment of truth today - with a year-long delay on the cards if MPs don't agree to get Britain out of the EU as soon as possible. The House of Commons will tonight vote on the way forward for Brexit - with MPs likely to endorse a much softer form of EU exit than Theresa May wants. The House of Commons will hold a second round of "indicative votes" from 8pm tonight after Mrs May's deal was defeated for the third time last week. They will cast votes on three or four different options - likely to include the customs union, single market, a second referendum and cancelling Brexit altogether... Brexit vote: Britain votes to leave the European Union in historic referendum - TomoNews

02:02
LONDON — The British public turned out in their droves on Thursday to say arrivederci, au revoir and auf wiedersehen to the European Union in an historic referendum. In a nailbiter ballot, 52 percent of the electorate voted to leave the 28-member … oh wait, we mean 27-member ... EU bloc against 48 percent who wanted to stay. The loss is a huge blow to remain campaign backer Prime Minister David Cameron, who announced his resignation after the vote and will step down by October. Cameron’s demise is good news for his former BFF, ex-London mayor Boris Johnson, who is set to take up the mantle of leading the fractured British Conservative Party. There really is no room for friendship in politics, eh? The GTFO campaign won primarily because its supporters want immigrants to GTFO of Britain. UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage declared, well, independence, following the ballot victory. The vote left financial markets in turmoil. The British Pound weakened as much as 11 per cent against the greenback. Maybe they should call it the Ounce now. A weaker pound will make British property and other assets cheaper for foreign investors. So hey, if you’re ‘Murican, looks like it’s a perfect time to visit Buckingham Palace. Scottish voters overwhelmingly backed staying in the EU by 62 percent to 38 percent, which leaves a huge question mark over whether Scotland will stay in the UK. Scots voted narrowly to remain in the UK in 2014 but Scottish National Party leader Nicola Sturgeon said a second referendum on Scottish independence was now “highly likely”. Well, at least we’ll get to watch that Braveheart sequel we’ve all been waiting for. Britain's Fish Capital Voted To Leave The EU — Now They Want It Back (HBO)

05:58
As Britain's divorce from the European Union slogs into its second phase, politicians and the public are beginning to realize that voting for change is much easier than agreeing on what that change will actually look like. Nowhere is this so stark than in Grimsby — a port town in the north east of England which is now seeking to preserve the multilateral trade agreement they voted to upend. England's seafood heartland voted overwhelmingly in favor of leaving the European Union in 2016. Many pinned the decisive vote on the lingering resentment towards the EU, which people here blame for the destruction of its fishing industry. Britain gears up for Brexit vote

An MP from Britain's opposition Labour party, Hilary Benn, is withdrawing his House of Commons amendment to reject Prime Minister Theresa May's Brexit agreement with the European Union. British MPs are preparing to vote today on whether to back May's deal. The so-called 'meaningful vote' will take place tonight, as five days of debate on Brexit comes to an end. May has called for politicians to back her deal, or risk letting the British people down. But, with many of her own MPs expected to join opposition parties to vote against the deal, it is widely expected to be defeated. Britain is to leave the EU at the end of March. Brexit: Britain votes to leave EU; PM David Cameron to resign

08:21
LONDON (AFP, REUTERS) - Britain has voted to break away from the European Union, toppling Prime Minister David Cameron and dealing a thunderous blow to the 60-year-old bloc that sent world markets plunging. Mr Cameron announced on Friday (June 24) that he would step down to make way for a new leader by early October, after voters opted to exit the 28-nation alliance in defiance of his predictions of economic disaster and isolation. Britons decided 52 per cent to 48 per cent in favour of quitting the bloc, a margin of more than one million votes, according to final results from Thursday’s referendum. “The British people have voted to leave the European Union and their will must be respected,” Mr Cameron said, as the shockwaves of their decision sent sterling, global stocks and oil prices plummeting. The Conservative prime minister promised to try to “steady the ship” over the next few months but said a new leader should be installed by early October. “I do not think it would be right for me to try to be the captain that steers our country to its next destination,” he said outside his official Downing Street residence in London. The bookmakers’ favourite to replace him is former London mayor Boris Johnson, a rival from within his ruling Conservative Party who was the Leave camp figurehead. Britain will be the first country to leave in the history of the EU, the culmination of decades of suspicion over European aims of creating an ever-closer political union. The vote also threatens the unity of the United Kingdom, with Scotland unwilling to follow the rest of the country out of the EU. Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on Friday raised the spectre of a new Scottish independence vote and the possible dissolution of the United Kingdom by saying that a fresh independence vote was "on the table". "The option of a second referendum must be on the table and it is on the table," she said, adding that legislation for another vote following the one held in 2014 would be prepared when the Scottish Parliament approved it. "I think an independence referendum is now highly likely," she added. "I want to make it absolutely clear today that I intend to take all possible steps and explore all options to give effect to how people in Scotland voted, in other words to secure our continuing place in the EU and in the single market." “Let June 23 go down in our history as our independence day,” said top anti-EU campaigner Nigel Farage, leader of the UK Independence Party, who had promised Britons the chance to retake power from Brussels and rein in high immigration. “We’ve done it! We’ve won!” anti-EU campaigners shouted at the festivities in an office block in Westminster, popping open champagne bottles as “Leave” victories flowed in. “Out! Out! Out!”, they chanted as dawn broke. The result saw sterling collapse 10 per cent to touch a 31-year low of US$1.3229. European stock markets dropped around eight per cent at the opening bell, while British banking shares collapsed by some 30 per cent. The Bank of England promised to take “all necessary steps” to secure market stability. “It’s a madhouse in here. It has been a bloodbath. Carnage,” said Mr David Papier, head of sales trading at foreign exchange house ETX Capital in London. Voters appeared to have shrugged off warnings that a Brexit would create a budget hole requiring spending cuts and tax increases once they lose unfettered trade access to the EU. Their decision will reawaken fears of a domino-effect ripple of exit votes in EU-sceptic members that could imperil the integrity of the bloc, already struggling with twin economic and refugee crises. Dutch far-right MP Geert Wilders and French National Front leader Marine Le Pen immediately called for referendums on EU membership in their own countries. “The eurosceptic genie is out of the bottle and it will now not be put back,” Mr Farage said.

Britain votes to leave EU in historic divorce || Brexit Results ||

00:47
Britain has voted to leave the European Union, results from Thursday's landmark referendum showed, an outcome that sets the country on an uncertain path and deals the largest setback to European efforts to forge greater unity since World War Two. World financial markets dived as nearly complete results showed a 51.7/48.3 percent split for leaving. Sterling suffered its biggest one-day fall of more than 9 percent against the dollar, hitting its lowest level in three decades on market fears the decision will hit investment in the world's 5th largest economy. The vote will initiate at least two years of messy divorce proceedings with the EU, raise questions over London's role as a global financial capital and put huge pressure on Prime Minister David Cameron to resign, though he pledged during the campaign to stay on whatever the result. The euro slumped around 3.5 percent against the dollar on concerns a ‘Brexit’ vote will do wider economic and political damage to what will become a 27-member union. Investors poured into safe haven assets including gold, and the yen surged. There was no immediate comment from the Bank of England. In an early mark of international concern, Japan's top currency diplomat Masatsugu Asakawa said he would consult with Finance Minister Taro Aso on how to respond to the market moves, describing the foreign exchange moves as very rough. Yet there was euphoria among Britain's eurosceptic forces, claiming a victory they styled as a protest against British political leaders, big business and foreign leaders including Barack Obama who had urged Britain to stay in the bloc. "Dare to dream that the dawn is breaking on an independent United Kingdom," said Nigel Farage, leader of the eurosceptic UK Independence Party. "If the predictions are right, this will be a victory for real people, a victory for ordinary people, a victory for decent people...Let June 23 go down in our history as our independence day." He called the EU a "doomed project". By 5.20 am (0420 GMT), nearly 90 percent of the vote had been counted, making Leave's lead virtually impossible to reverse. Asked if Cameron, who called the referendum in 2013 and campaigned to stay in the bloc, should resign if Britain voted for Brexit, Farage said: "Immediately." The United Kingdom now faces a threat to its survival, as Scotland voted 62 percent in favor of staying in the EU and is likely to press for a new referendum on whether to become independent after its 2014 vote to stay in the UK. Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said Thursday's vote "makes clear that the people of Scotland see their future as part of the European Union." Quitting the EU could cost Britain access to the EU's trade barrier-free single market and mean it must seek new trade accords with countries around the world. President Barack Obama says it would be at the "back of a queue" for a U.S. pact.

Brexit vote: Britain votes to leave the European Union in historic referendum- TomoNews

MPs reject all 8 different Brexit options

02:36
MPs have voted against all eight options under the indicative votes process. Notably this means that the UK will not the European Union without a deal on April 12. As well as rejecting the notion of a confirmatory public vote, therefore meaning no motion would be put to the public to vote on in regards to a Brexit deal. A notion put forward by Ken Clarke to negotiate a 'permanent and comprehensive UK-wide customs union with the EU' was narrowly voted against by just 8 votes Subscribe to Guardian News on YouTube ► http://bit.ly/guardianwiressub MPs reject all alternative Brexit options ► https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/mar/27/mps-reject-all-alternative-brexit-options Support the Guardian ► https://support.theguardian.com/contribute Today in Focus podcast ► https://www.theguardian.com/news/series/todayinfocus The Guardian YouTube network: The Guardian ► http://www.youtube.com/theguardian Owen Jones talks ► http://bit.ly/subsowenjones Guardian Football ► http://is.gd/guardianfootball Guardian Sport ► http://bit.ly/GDNsport Guardian Culture ► http://is.gd/guardianculture

Britain Votes to Leave European Union ( BREXIT )

01:33
The majority of the working class British citizens voted to leave the EU. They grew tired of un-elected officials controlling policy in Britain without their input or vote. The mainstream media showed its true colors in how the polls where projected in the opposite directions. I see a correlation with events that are unfolding here in the USA. Mainstream media pushes liberal bias because Democrat career Politicians think they know whats best for us. America is waking up. Time to vote out the establishment!
