The learning curve is steep and there are major pitfalls to make a (d)app scaleable, let alone user friendly. In short, end users should not be rocket scientists to use blockchain based applications. This is why we came up with Arkane Network. Arkane gives app developers the power to develop blockchain applications without needing the in-depth blockchain knowledge. This allows them to focus on the application, their users and optimising the str experience. Our APIs can be used by developers and businesses to make blockchain accessible to all. We will explore how we can use these API's to start building an application. The Design of Blockchain Based Apps | Blockchain Onramp Series | San Francisco, CA

49:40
Decentralized apps are still apps but there are key differences as well which any app designer needs to understand. Onboarding into a token-based ecosystem. Requesting permission for transactions. Handling wait times and confirmation finality. All of these are unexpected for users and, thus, represent key friction points in their interactions. In this event, we covered the full spectrum of what a designer or product person or developer needs to understand the unique world of creating decentralized applications. We'll start high level and then make our way into more specific case studies of design interactions. **About the Blockchain Onramp Series** Blockchain Onramp is a series of events covering the full spectrum of knowledge necessary to operate effectively within the blockchain ecosystem as a designer, developer or product person. After participating in these events, you should be able to take your functional expertise in any of these areas and apply them to blockchain projects. We are doing this to provide a key -- and currently missing -- plain-English onramp for people of all functional experience who are interested in building real businesses on this new technology. The format of each event may differ slightly, but they will be a combination of expert talks and discussions with industry practitioners. The rough Blockchain Onramp Series roadmap is: + Product Series: Ecosystem, DApps, and Strategy + Design Series: Onboarding UX, Best Practices + Development Series: Developer stack, Building on TestNets, Security, Best Practices + Startup Series: Marketing, Business Models, and Fundraising --- ABOUT THE SPEAKER --- Erik Trautman leads operations at NEAR Protocol, which is a scalable mobile-first blockchain. Decentralized Chat

18:36
Peer to peer chat without using a server? We can do this using Ethereum's whisper library. This is a chat protocol that lets nodes chat with each other directly, no need for a central server. It doesn't even use a centralized routing source to let nodes discover each other like BitTorrent does with trackers, instead it uses a distributed hash table as a tool for decentralized peer discovery. Blockchain based application (dApp) demo - Healthcare use case

06:07
I would like to show our demonstration in healthcare which give you about a relationship of 3 stakeholders (Patient, Clinic and Insurer) Our assumption here is that Patient, Clinic and Insurer own 100 ETH. First, P would like to buy an insurance package of Insurer I1 with an amount 20 ETH. A smart contract is established and 20 ETH is booked from P. Once P is confirmed, 20 ETH is transferred from smart contract to I1 Then, P leaves a request on our system that she would like to perform a general examination at the clinic C with total estimated price is 8 ETH (P also provides the insurance ID for C). A smart contract is established between P and C. When P visits C, C will check with I1 (basing on the insurance ID which provided by P) to see how much I1 can pay. I1 confirms that I1 only 5.7 ETH / 8 ETH basing on the term/condition of insurance package that P bought. It means P must pay 2.3 ETH / 8 ETH for the general examination. C asks P to deposit 2.3 ETH in advance. Once P agrees, 2.3 ETH is booked from P and start the examination at C. When the examination is completed and C got confirmation from P: - 2.3 ETH will be automatically transferred from smart contract to Clinic - C submits all related documents/ results to IPFS (is a protocol and network designed to create a content-addressable, peer-to-peer method of storing and sharing hypermedia in a distributed file system) - Once I1 checks and confirms docs are fine, 5.7 ETH is transferred from I1 to C1 Documentation: Ethereum platform: https://www.ethereum.org/ IPFS network: https://ipfs.io/ Decentralized Application (dApp): https://blockchainhub.net/decentralized-applications-dapps/ © 2018 by Global Cybersoft (VN) - a Hitachi Consulting company http://www.globalcybersoft.com/en/

The Blockchain for Decentralized Business Applications - BAC

02:10
Top blockchain projects today are grabbing headlines, but none deliver the solutions that will help global businesses unlock the value in blockchain technology. BAC, the Business Application Chain, has been designed to make blockchain-powered applications for businesses easily achievable. The blockchain-platform architecture is modular, accessible via all major operating systems- Windows, Mac, or Linux. Programming applications and smart contracts has never been easier, thanks to BAC's pioneering buna language, which is modeled after Javascript, the world's most common programming language. This means any developer can easily learn and get started building your blockchain-based business solution using BAC. We've also developed a delegated proof of work protocol (DPoW), to ensure an optimal blend of speed and stability. Efficiency, speed, stability, and security are all traits necessary in a blockchain platform businesses can truly utilize for the applications that will help them achieve blockchain transformation. BAC, the Business Application Chain, is the first blockchain project to offer all four.

Trimble Transportation Enterprise Solutions, a leading provider of enterprise software to over 2,000 transportation and logistics companies, and the largest data science organization in the industry, supports thousands of customers, cabs, and trailers on the road. The freight and transportation industry today relies on inherently manual systems, where spreadsheets and individual files are updated by each party every time a new action is required. This causes a lack of accountability and zero visibility into important data stored in file-based systems. Trimble has developed several blockchain-based applications to give its customers a better platform experience. They are now joining their ecosystem by bringing together a way to engage in a single unified platform. Trimble will unveil a new Transportation Management System as a Service, called Harmony, built on a blockchain architecture powered by Apache Kafka and Apache NiFi. Trimble has designed an architecture that leverages Hortonworks Big Data solutions, HDP, HDF and Machine Learning models to power up multiple Blockchains, which improves operational efficiency, cuts down costs and enables building strategic partnerships The platform provides visibility for all participants across the entire Pick-Pack-Ship and Order-to-Cash processes Apache NiFi acts as the key data ingestion/management layer that determines which data stays off-chain for advanced analytics and which data goes on-chain for complete immutability and auditability. Zug, Switzerland, To Pilot Blockchain-Based Voting Pilot

01:08
Zug, Switzerland, To Pilot Blockchain-Based Voting Pilot Subscribe: http://bit.ly/CryptoCoinNewsYT Zug, a city in Switzerland and a proactive supporter of blockchain technology will soon be launching the first voting pilot to base both its residents' identities and polling system. The system will be operated by blockchain technology. This pilot for e-voting is expected to be launched any day between 25th June and 1st July. It was developed with a view to making the city more compliant with blockchain technology-based applications. A digital identity trial is currently running, according to an announcement made by the local government recently. In July last year, Zug authorities announced their plans to launch uPort, an application that’s Ethereum-based for digitizing information pertaining to the identities of the city’s local residents. In November 2017, the pilot phase was started with over 200 residents signing up for this new service. Benefits of uPort Once Zug citizens have been allotted their digital identities, they will have the liberty of casting their votes in this one-off blockchain pilot for polling. Local authorities indicated that the exercise is more of a "consultative test" and its results shall not be enforceable or binding. Blockchain Marches On In November 2017, Nasdaq had announced that it was in the process of developing a fully electronic system for shareholder voting for the capital markets of South Africa. Blockchain Applications Beyond Cryptocurrency

01:21:35
While everyone in the tech space has at least heard about blockchain technology at this point, many almost exclusively focus on the bitcoin and cryptocurrency aspect of it. However, blockchain is more than just cryptocurrency. Companies are using this technology today for contract enforcement, information validation, and property tracking. This panel discussion features our very own Taylor Gerring with Robert K. Elder. Both of them are professionals in the blockchain space, and they are here to teach about the various applications of blockchain tech beyond cryptocurrency. Taylor is the former Director of Technology at Ethereum and was a member of the original Ethereum founding team. Since then he has founded Blockchain WTF, a website dedicated to providing information about blockchain technology. Robert is the President and Publisher at Blockchain News, a publication focusing on the most urgent blockchain industry developments of the day, delivering everything from granular tech pieces to expansive culture profiles that are important to industry leaders, investors and data analysts.

Project Update: Lisk (LSK) the Javascript Blockchain Application Platform

09:01
Project Update: Lisk (LSK) the Javascript Blockchain Application Platform https://lisk.io/ Basics Lisk is a Blockchain application platform, established in early 2016. It will enable developers to create, distribute and manage decentralized Blockchain applications by deploying their own sidechain linked to the Lisk network, including a custom token. It is based on its own Blockchain network and token LSK and has similarities to other smart contract platforms like Ethereum or NEO but uses Javascript which is one of the most popular programming languages. Lisk had ICO between February and March 2016 and raised over 14k BTC Tokens and usage Lisk uses sidechains and a complete Software Development Kit (SDK) to enable a complete kit allowing developers to produce dapps and an independent blockchain under one system. This side blockchain is linked to and secured by the separately maintained Lisk blockchain. Lisk is written in JavaScript (which is the most popular language for web applications) and is using Delegated Proof of Stake (DPOS) consensus algorithm. There is no maximum amount of Lisk tokens in circulation but the inflation rate will decrease over time. Lisk (LSK) is a usage or utility token. It is used to pay for the network fees which occur for different types of transactions: for example sending the token around, registering a delegate, setup of a multi-sig account or voting for delegate Recent News The biggest news happened at the end of August where the Lisk Core 1.0 was moved to mainnet. Lisk Core runs on all nodes on the network. The 1.0 introduces new features and improvements. Along with the release of Lisk Core 1.0, the team have released Lisk Elements 1.0, Lisk Commander 1.0, Lisk Hub 1.0, Lisk Explorer 2.1.4 and Lisk Nano 2.0 They recently annouced a new and improved Lisk Ambassador Program - they will hold meetups about Lisk in their communities providing a 'decentralised' marketing. The team is looking for almost 20 new employees (based in Berlin) Roadmap The roadmap on the website is out of date (basically development was delayed) but during the recent AMA the team said that they are working on the new roadmap. The team is providing regular development updates and is also providing 'next steps' which are basically upcoming short term developments. According to the old roadmap some of the developments that should soon finish are : new fee and address system modularisation custom tokens dapp registration and managemenet decentrealised exchange and sidechains Availability and price LISK is listed on several exchanges with: YoBit (39% of volume) CoingEgg (19%) HitBTC (10%) Binance (9%) also on Extrates, Livecoin, Bittrex, Poloniex and more Current price as of 21st of September is around $3.44 with LISK being ranked on 24th place in terms of the market capitalisation and market cap of around $380M Around 110M out of 125M of the tokens is in the circulation meaning not that many new tokens will be introduced Price graph LISK has been doing quite poorly this year: lost both in terms of value in BTC and fiat. The ATH has been achieved during the January pump. Since then lisk had a second pump at the end of Feburary but the price decreased significantly since then. At the peek the mcap was almost 4B How is it doing? Lisk had some delays with the development which has negatively impacted the price this year but the recent developments were good. It is one of the older blockchain projects out there. They have almost 60 employees according to LinkedIn and are looking for additional 20 employees. This means they are one of the biggest teams in blockchain. The main selling point of Lisk is the usage of Javascript and providing full service to easily create blockchains. There are several dapps being developed on Lisk so if they can attract more developers the future is promising but Lisk underwhelming performance this year might discourage investors. I feel that Lisk should work on the marketing a bit more.

Why Hashed Is Investing In Blockchain-based Games [해시드랩스_Hashed Labs]

17:22
We've recently launched Hashed Labs, an accelerator program for founders focused on building decentralized applications that address real-world use cases. The first batch will be focused on gaming. We believe that games have always stood at the forefront of any new breakthrough in technology, whether it be the advent of the Internet or the dissemination of mobile devices. It is always the first to attract early adopters of new or experimental technology. Our belief is that blockchain won't be any different and that games that take advantage of the characteristics of blockchain will gain early traction, with more diversified blockchain-based applications and services to follow.

Experiences with Scaling Blockchain-based Data Stores

01:19:27
In the past years cryptocurrency blockchains (like Bitcoin and Namecoin) have seen significant adoption with the promise of using such blockchains as general-purpose databases and/or key-value stores. Cryptocurrency blockchains provide a zero-trust infrastructure, where users can securely store and retrieve information while providing security guarantees that only the owner of a particular private-key can write/modify the data. In theory, many decentralized services/application can be built using cryptocurrency blockchains as key-value stores. However, the area is relatively new and rapidly evolving with little production experience/data available to guide design tradeoffs. In this talk, we describe our experience of operating a large real-world deployment of a decentralized naming service, called Openname, built on top of a cryptocurrency blockchain (Namecoin). We present the various challenges that we had to overcome while registering/updating over 30,000 users on the blockchain and discuss how our experience informed the design of a new blockchain-based key-value store, called Blockstore. All of our code is available as open-source at http://github.com/openname.
