Blockchain tutorial 16: Bitcoin compressed and uncompressed addresses

09:48
This is part 16 of the Blockchain tutorial explaining what Bitcoin compressed and uncompressed addresses are In this video series different topics will be explained which will help you to understand blockchain. Bitcoin released as open source software in 2009 is a cryptocurrency invented by Satoshi Nakamoto (unidentified person or group of persons). After the introduction of Bitcoin many Bitcoin alternatives were created. These alternate cryptocurrencies are called Altcoins (Litecoin, Dodgecoin etc). Bitcoin's underlying technology is called Blockchain. The Blockchain is a distributed decentralized incorruptible database (ledger) that records blocks of digital information. Each block contains a timestamp and a link to a previous block. Soon people realises that there many other use cases where the Blockchain technology can be applied and not just as a cryptocurrency application. New Blockchain platforms were created based on the Blockchain technology, one of which is called Ethereum. Ethereum focuses on running programming code, called smart contracts, on any decentralized application. Using the new Blockchain platforms, Blockchain technology can be used in supply chain management, healthcare, real estate, identity management, voting, internet of things, etcetera, just to name a few. Today there is a growing interest in Blockchain not only in the financial sector but also in other sectors. Explaining how Blockchain works is not easy and for many the Blockchain technology remains an elusive concept. This video series tries to explain Blockchain to a large audience but from the bottom up. Keywords often used in Blockchain conversation will be explained. Each Blockchain video is short and to the point. It is recommended to watch each video sequentially as I may refer to certain Blockchain topics explained earlier. Bitcoin Q&A: What is a private key?

What is a private key? How are they generated and formatted? Are private keys transmitted when you make a transaction? What are the chances of collision? Bitcoin 101 - Multi-Signature Addresses pt1 - Coding This Major Security Improvement

21:45
Just like the Wright brothers, on those first flights at Kitty Hawk, didn't concern themselves that much with landing. And improvements like anti-lock brakes and seat belts help protect passengers in cars. Bitcoin is now in that 'second phase' where security is becoming massively important. Fortunately, because the currency is programmable, anything is really possible. Originally introduced into the bitcoin client a few years ago, multisignature addresses massively more secure than regular ones. Their adoption by all wallet manufacturers is coming. But, for you techies and voyeurs, we'll jump inside the ideas of multi-sig and even program the stuff. Hope you enjoy. All the public and private keys are at the bottom of this description James' code can be found here: https://github.com/wobine/blackboard101 there, you'll see the code for part one and two of this video Jeff Garzik's Bitcoin python library is here https://github.com/jgarzik/python-bitcoinrpc remember to replace his connection.py file with ours for multisigs And a little bit about bitcoind is here https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoind but remember that it really is the most bare-bones bitcoin wallet software, but the one which allows the most programming. we love it. A multisig wallet is already in production: Check it out https://www.bitgo.com/ We're still waiting to see how they use multisig to see if it really works for the end user. And finally, here's our lovely multisig address http://live.bitcore.io/address/35Z3xG92YkW5Xo4ngQw6w5b3Ce6MDw94A8 So cool to see it live and in action. Welcome to WBN's Bitcoin 101 Blackboard Series -- a full beginner to expert course in bitcoin. We hope you enjoy. And remember the official WBN launch is coming up : June 1st, 2014. Bitcoin 101 - Elliptic Curve Cryptography - Part 4 - Generating the Public Key (in Python)

21:22
Welcome to part four in our series on Elliptic Curve Cryptography. I this episode we dive into the development of the public key. In just 44 lines of code, with no special functions or imports, we produce the elliptic curve public key for use in Bitcoin. Better still, we walk you through it line by line, constant by constant. Nothing makes the process clearer and easier to understand than seeing it in straight forward code. If you've been wondering about the secp256k1 (arguably the most important piece of code in Bitcoin), well then this is the video for you. This is part 4 of our upcoming series on Elliptic Curves. Because of such strong requests, even though this is part 4, it is the first one we are releasing. In the next few weeks we will release the rest of the series. Enjoy. Here's the link to our Python code (Python 2.7.6): https://github.com/wobine/blackboard101/blob/master/EllipticCurvesPart4-PrivateKeyToPublicKey.py Here's the private key and the link to the public address that we use. Bitcoin Q&A: MimbleWimble and Dandelion

12:03
What is the story behind MimbleWimble? What is Grin? What is a Dandelion transaction relay, as described in BIP156, and how does it improve the anonymity of the Bitcoin network? CLARIFICATION/ CORRECTION: At 1:14, I talk the origins of MimbleWimble. The PDF was submitted to the Bitcoin research IRC channel on August 2nd, 2016. The pseudonymous author used the name "Tom Elvis Jedusor," which is the French version of Voldemort's real name. I also say that the name "MimbleWimble" was referencing the name of a spell from Harry Potter, which is the Tongue-Tying Curse and prevents someone from speaking about (not "seeing") something: http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Tongue-Tying_Curse At 6:08, I was unable to list the names of the team members behind the Dandelion proposal. They are Giulia Fanti, Shaileshh Bojja Venkatakrishnan, Surya Bakshi, Bradley Denby, Shruti Bhargava, Andrew Miller and Pramod Viswanath (researchers at Carnegie Mellon, MIT, and the University of Illinois). We have created something called Proof of Signature which ensure that 100% of all blocks will be signed by the system when they occur. The blocks are signed by the network of Master Nodes after verifying the transactions in the block. There are a total of 650 million XBY and there will never be more. The XTRABYTES system is a shared database storage system that will never break like some systems because we do not rely on miners who could turn their rigs to other coins, leaving the network unable to verify and therefore breaking the blockchain, rendering it useless and thus all clients losing access to their stored files. This can never happen to XTRABYTES. Bitcoin Hack Reducing Fees Sending frm Cryptopia to Coinbase

06:03
When you send coins from an exchange, it is normal to send Bitcoin and also normal to accept the higher fees incurred from using BTC. However, an option is to send LTC Litecoin instead of BTC Bitcoin. Here's the Hack: So the steps I took were the following: (Not shown on this video: I sold a coin I had been holding a while and of course, when you sell a coin, you end up with Bitcoin). 1) I used the Bitcoin to purchase Litecoin. 2) I withdrew Litecoin and sent it to my Coinbase account. 3) The fee for that was 0.02 LTC (about $4). 4) If I had withdrawn with Bitcoin, the fee would have been 0.001 BTC ($11). (Upcoming video: Once your Litecoin reaches Coinbase, you can sell it for USD and then turn around and buy Bitcoin with that USD for a small fee of $2.99.) For a time-compressed Crypto Educational Program with Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Bitcoin & Cryptocurrency information: https://kelliducloux.kryptogenex.com/ It took me years to learn everything I have thus far in the Bitcoin & Crypto space. Blockchain tutorial 12: ASCII

01:41
This is part 12 of the Blockchain tutorial explaining what ASCII is. In this video series different topics will be explained which will help you to understand blockchain. Step-by-Step: How to Recover Bitcoin Cash From Paper Wallet created before August 1st with password

03:11
Step-by-Step Guide on How to Recover your Bitcoin Cash From Paper Wallet. In this video you'll find a step-by-step guide to help you recover your Bitcoin Cash From a Bitcoin Paper Wallet you created before August 1st with a password on it (BIP38 encrypted). Verify you have Bitcoin Cash (BCH) on your wallet via a Bitcoin Cash blockchain explorer like https://blockchair.com/ by entering your public key in their search bar. If you have spent all your Bitcoin (BTC) after august 1st, you should see a null balance on your wallet on a Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain explorer. But if you kept some Bitcoin on a paper wallet until after august 1st, you should see the equivalent amount of Bitcoin (BTC) you had just before august 1st on a Bitcoin Cash (BCH) blockchain explorer. The website commonly used to create paper wallets is https://www.bitaddress.org. Download the compressed .zip file at the bottom left of the page then I recommend doing things offline for maximum security. We'll use the Bitcoin Cash wallet named "Electron Cash". It is The wallet you'll install on your computer to get your Bitcoin Cash. You can download the Electron Cash Wallet here: http://www.electroncash.org/ You'll find it as a possible wallet on the Bitcoin Cash website https://www.bitcoincash.org/ This wallet is the Bitcoin Cash version of a Bitcoin wallet named Electrum: https://electrum.org/#home If you want, you can convert your Bitcoin Cash via Shapeshift: https://www.shapeshift.io For more details on how to use Shapeshift: https://youtu.be/n7OdD9HTT-4 I hope this video will solve help you. If this helped, a pizza or a beer would be awesome! :) Thank you for watching! Be careful and save your keys! The Tale Of Two Bitcoins Help support future projects and perhaps a fresh set of tyres on the Merc - bitcoincash:qzm43508vut9h9lwcjeamx8cchwg227hgsv2dch7yn FOLLOW Hayden: • https://twitter.com/CryptoStratz • https://www.instagram.com/cryptostratz/ Produced by Jack Hammonds: https://www.youtube.com/c/hammproductions https://www.instagram.com/hammproductions/?hl=en Edited by Hayden Otto: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdPfhMiwXe4aOK1tLntn8NQ Filmed by Sam Fregonese: https://www.youtube.com/samfregonese We live in a fast-paced world where commerce is built on the backbone of reliable tap & go transactions. A superior alternative emerged with the birth of Bitcoin; trustless p2p electronic cash that’s independent of central banks, governments, or any other centralized middle-men. Bitcoin allowed people create secure, instant transactions that were virtually free. These characteristics made it a convenient payment method for merchants and users, as you only needed to broadcast your transaction to the network and you’re done. Shady tactics allowed the Core developers to strip key Bitcoin functionality which made it P2P electronic cash. All this to pursue their own agenda - an artificial fee market, SegWit and a vulnerability known as Replace-By-Fee. Once they had this, they were able to introduce their monetised side-chain known as Lightning. These new susceptibilities introduced high transaction fees and long wait times on-chain. With the convenience & security of Bitcoin transactions destroyed, both merchants and users began abandoning this revolutionary payment method Thankfully due to the open source nature of this project; faithful pioneers were able to fork away from the direction of this hostile takeover, with Bitcoin Cash. A return to Bitcoin’s former glory by reintroducing instant and irreversible transactions, plus onchain scaling - as was the plan all along. By increasing the blocksize indefinitely; Bitcoin Cash is able to effectively surpass VISA and Mastercard network traffic, while remaining completely peer-to-peer and virtually free to send to anyone in the world. Bitcoin Cash strives for global adoption and throws out the HODL mentality. Instead developers are building services which incentivise usage. This is proven to grow the value of our network over time. Unsurprisingly merchant adoption is once again booming with Bitcoin Cash. PoS systems, online stores, social networks, gambling sites, are all choosing Bitcoin Cash as the preferred Cryptocurrency of choice. When time and money are a prime focus for business owners, Bitcoin Cash provides a competitive edge over all other payment systems. With real lightning fast transactions that offer no compromise, we are entering the era of Bitcoin Cash commerce.
