Blockchain tutorial 16: Bitcoin compressed and uncompressed addresses

09:48
This is part 16 of the Blockchain tutorial explaining what Bitcoin compressed and uncompressed addresses are In this video series different topics will be explained which will help you to understand blockchain. Bitcoin released as open source software in 2009 is a cryptocurrency invented by Satoshi Nakamoto (unidentified person or group of persons). After the introduction of Bitcoin many Bitcoin alternatives were created. These alternate cryptocurrencies are called Altcoins (Litecoin, Dodgecoin etc). Bitcoin's underlying technology is called Blockchain. The Blockchain is a distributed decentralized incorruptible database (ledger) that records blocks of digital information. Each block contains a timestamp and a link to a previous block. Soon people realises that there many other use cases where the Blockchain technology can be applied and not just as a cryptocurrency application. New Blockchain platforms were created based on the Blockchain technology, one of which is called Ethereum. Ethereum focuses on running programming code, called smart contracts, on any decentralized application. Using the new Blockchain platforms, Blockchain technology can be used in supply chain management, healthcare, real estate, identity management, voting, internet of things, etcetera, just to name a few. Today there is a growing interest in Blockchain not only in the financial sector but also in other sectors. Explaining how Blockchain works is not easy and for many the Blockchain technology remains an elusive concept. This video series tries to explain Blockchain to a large audience but from the bottom up. Keywords often used in Blockchain conversation will be explained. Each Blockchain video is short and to the point. It is recommended to watch each video sequentially as I may refer to certain Blockchain topics explained earlier. Bitcoin 101 - Multi-Signature Addresses pt1 - Coding This Major Security Improvement

21:45
Just like the Wright brothers, on those first flights at Kitty Hawk, didn't concern themselves that much with landing. And improvements like anti-lock brakes and seat belts help protect passengers in cars. Bitcoin is now in that 'second phase' where security is becoming massively important. Fortunately, because the currency is programmable, anything is really possible. Originally introduced into the bitcoin client a few years ago, multisignature addresses massively more secure than regular ones. Their adoption by all wallet manufacturers is coming. But, for you techies and voyeurs, we'll jump inside the ideas of multi-sig and even program the stuff. Hope you enjoy. All the public and private keys are at the bottom of this description James' code can be found here: https://github.com/wobine/blackboard101 there, you'll see the code for part one and two of this video Jeff Garzik's Bitcoin python library is here https://github.com/jgarzik/python-bitcoinrpc remember to replace his connection.py file with ours for multisigs And a little bit about bitcoind is here https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoind but remember that it really is the most bare-bones bitcoin wallet software, but the one which allows the most programming. we love it. A multisig wallet is already in production: Check it out https://www.bitgo.com/ We're still waiting to see how they use multisig to see if it really works for the end user. And finally, here's our lovely multisig address http://live.bitcore.io/address/35Z3xG92YkW5Xo4ngQw6w5b3Ce6MDw94A8 So cool to see it live and in action. Welcome to WBN's Bitcoin 101 Blackboard Series -- a full beginner to expert course in bitcoin. We hope you enjoy. And remember the official WBN launch is coming up : June 1st, 2014. Bitcoin Hack Reducing Fees Sending frm Cryptopia to Coinbase

06:03
When you send coins from an exchange, it is normal to send Bitcoin and also normal to accept the higher fees incurred from using BTC. However, an option is to send LTC Litecoin instead of BTC Bitcoin. Here's the Hack: So the steps I took were the following: (Not shown on this video: I sold a coin I had been holding a while and of course, when you sell a coin, you end up with Bitcoin). 1) I used the Bitcoin to purchase Litecoin. 2) I withdrew Litecoin and sent it to my Coinbase account. 3) The fee for that was 0.02 LTC (about $4). 4) If I had withdrawn with Bitcoin, the fee would have been 0.001 BTC ($11). (Upcoming video: Once your Litecoin reaches Coinbase, you can sell it for USD and then turn around and buy Bitcoin with that USD for a small fee of $2.99.) Bitcoin 101 - Elliptic Curve Cryptography - Part 4 - Generating the Public Key (in Python)

21:22
Welcome to part four in our series on Elliptic Curve Cryptography. I this episode we dive into the development of the public key. In just 44 lines of code, with no special functions or imports, we produce the elliptic curve public key for use in Bitcoin. Better still, we walk you through it line by line, constant by constant. Nothing makes the process clearer and easier to understand than seeing it in straight forward code. If you've been wondering about the secp256k1 (arguably the most important piece of code in Bitcoin), well then this is the video for you. This is part 4 of our upcoming series on Elliptic Curves. Because of such strong requests, even though this is part 4, it is the first one we are releasing. In the next few weeks we will release the rest of the series. Enjoy. How to Update Wasabi Wallet to v 1.1.1 with Bitcoin Core Integration & Tor Fixes

08:51
Release Summary: + If you have a full node running, from now on Wasabi will ask blocks from it instead of random peers. This is the first step towards complete Bitcoin Core integration. + Updated the built in Tor to the latest stable. + Removed GTK dependency on Linux and now we are directly using X11. So if previously you were not able to run Wasabi on your Linux distribution, from now on most likely you will. + Added debian package. + Filter download now twice as fast, because compressed filters are transferred. + Downloadable binaries are 3 times smaller, because filters are not shipped with them anymore. https://github.com/zkSNACKs/WalletWasabi/releases Reclaim your privacy now! As Bitcoin is becoming more and more mainstream, its fungibility is being threatened. Powerful interests are spending immeasurable resources on mass surveillance, and Blockchain analysis companies are rapidly gaining traction. Meanwhile, privacy work on Bitcoin is also gaining momentum, but it is up to You who wins this battle. Wasabi is an open-source, non-custodial, privacy focused Bitcoin wallet, that implements trustless coin shuffling with mathematically provable anonymity: Chaumian CoinJoin, it is the first of its kind. However, "anonymity loves company", the more users there are, the better your privacy, and the faster the CoinJoin rounds will be. Whether you are looking for state of the art operational security or you are philosophically aligned with the principles of freedom and privacy, now it is YOUR time to contribute. Fire up your Wasabi and start providing liquidity for CoinJoins to bootstrap the system! http://wasabiukrxmkdgve5kynjztuovbg43uxcbcxn6y2okcrsg7gb6jdmbad.onion/ https://wasabiwallet.io If you learned something valuable, donate Bitcoin to Max: 3DqEnU6dW6bZesrVdThrrQjQKgN7dpY5vv https://tallyco.in/HillebrandMax Support the show by buying bitcoin on https://hodlhodl.com/join/ERCT Listen to WCN Audio Podcasts: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-world-crypto-network-podcast/id825708806 Check out the brand new http://WorldCryptoNetwork.com/ Find out more about Max https://towardsliberty.com Follow WCN on Twitter: https://twitter.com/WorldCryptoNet Follow Max on Twitter: https://twitter.com/HillebrandMax Contribute to Max’s Bachelor Thesis on Multi Signature in Lightning Network Payments: https://github.com/MaxHillebrand/LightningMultiSig Bitcoin to the Max: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPj3KCksGbSZtGhC7nIr_Mf1oCeP8U1tV Read Rothbard ~ Use Bitcoin: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPj3KCksGbSafpOorg0NdeVXGIPNqV_8a Open Source Everything: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPj3KCksGbSb1h33FZbsrtr1feIIwTBHt Hackers Congress Paralelni Polis 2018: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPj3KCksGbSY8xt-x-KoDb6L380odP_qu Baltic Honeybadger 2018: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPj3KCksGbSZsgH48ZDxNdzRXbg_pvMnz Nodl Personal Bitcoin Assistant: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPj3KCksGbSYvbhhUpIehNqnXFLkz1AD1 Bisq Decentralized Exchange: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPj3KCksGbSZR33X7kJmDMwIEH-wrrpCJ ColdCard Wallet: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPj3KCksGbSZJzC4besvtu8CSroBosrdt Purism: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPj3KCksGbSZm6k6GlJRhY6T7wSvoEWbG Bitcoin Op Tech Newsletter: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPj3KCksGbSY9pV6EI5zkHcut5UTCs1cp What Has Government Done to Our Money? Step-by-Step: How to Recover Bitcoin Cash From Paper Wallet created before August 1st with password

03:11
Step-by-Step Guide on How to Recover your Bitcoin Cash From Paper Wallet. In this video you'll find a step-by-step guide to help you recover your Bitcoin Cash From a Bitcoin Paper Wallet you created before August 1st with a password on it (BIP38 encrypted). Verify you have Bitcoin Cash (BCH) on your wallet via a Bitcoin Cash blockchain explorer like https://blockchair.com/ by entering your public key in their search bar. If you have spent all your Bitcoin (BTC) after august 1st, you should see a null balance on your wallet on a Bitcoin (BTC) blockchain explorer. But if you kept some Bitcoin on a paper wallet until after august 1st, you should see the equivalent amount of Bitcoin (BTC) you had just before august 1st on a Bitcoin Cash (BCH) blockchain explorer. The website commonly used to create paper wallets is https://www.bitaddress.org. Download the compressed .zip file at the bottom left of the page then I recommend doing things offline for maximum security. We'll use the Bitcoin Cash wallet named "Electron Cash". It is The wallet you'll install on your computer to get your Bitcoin Cash. You can download the Electron Cash Wallet here: http://www.electroncash.org/ You'll find it as a possible wallet on the Bitcoin Cash website https://www.bitcoincash.org/ This wallet is the Bitcoin Cash version of a Bitcoin wallet named Electrum: https://electrum.org/#home If you want, you can convert your Bitcoin Cash via Shapeshift: https://www.shapeshift.io For more details on how to use Shapeshift: https://youtu.be/n7OdD9HTT-4 I hope this video will solve help you. The Beauty of Lempel-Ziv Compression

11:23
How the Lempel-Ziv lossless compression algorithm works. It was published in 1978 (LZ78) and improved by Welch in 1984 leading to the popular LZW compression. This video covers the key insight in their paper: how to construct a codebook that doesn't need to be shared with the sender. It's a subtle, yet beautiful idea which is still in use today.
