Put on loose-fitting and comfortable clothes. Stretch before you start meditating to prepare your body for it. -Any kind of meditation is done sitting or lying down. Breathe naturally and focus your attention on your breath and how your body moves each time you inhale and exhale. Don't let any other thoughts distract you. Be sure to do it at the same time each day so that it becomes habitual more easily. -All you have to do is focus solely on one thing. Truly focusing your mind on one thing without letting it wander from one point to another takes time and practice. But it brings wonderful inner harmony and a new sense of calm with it. -Mindfulness meditation encourages you to closely observe all the thoughts that appear in your mind. Your task isn't to judge them, you just have to acknowledge each and every one of them and be aware of their appearance. -Mantra meditation basically involves repeating a specific sound, word, or phrase over and over again until you silence your mind and enter a deeper meditative state. “Om” is said to be the first sound heard at the creation of the universe. Om Tat Sat is yet another mantra you may want to memorize. -Meditation reduces the symptoms of anxiety disorders, such as phobias, social anxiety, and panic attacks, to name a few. Other benefits of meditation that have been confirmed by the scientific community include lower blood pressure and blood cortisol levels as well as improved blood circulation, among others. Meditation & Fitness: Scientific Benefits of Meditating- Thomas DeLauer

And I think they do it because it makes them sound smart, but the reality is meditation is a powerful thing, but let's talk about how it's really working within the body. Here's the big problem that we face. Most of the studies that are out there surrounding the world of meditation are very subjective. They take a look at the masses, but they take a look at an overall end result. And sometime this can lead to us wondering, "Is this truly a physiological change or is it just the kind of people that meditate tend to have this kind of response?" Now before I go any further, I do want to make sure if you haven't already, hit that subscribe button so you can get three to five videos per week. But also, if you're already a subscriber, turn on that little bell so you can turn on notifications, so you know whenever I post a video. So you see what I mean by this, when I'm talking about meditation, is since most of the studies are looking at input and output, what ends up happening after someone meditates, it makes it really, really hard to determine if there's really a change happening within the body. What I mean by that is maybe, just maybe, the kinds of people that are meditating are different kinds of people that would be more receptive to a change. Or maybe they're the kind of people that are more receptive to a change and the fact that they, as soon as they start implementing some kind of different strategy within their life or exercising a different form of discipline, they start having different changes. Now, a lot of the studies really back this up in terms of what can happen when someone starts meditating, but maybe it's just a better practice for life. Now, I'm trying to look at this in a completely unbiased way because I truly am someone that meditates, but I also wonder myself if I'm doing myself good or if I'm just one of the people that has a specific regimen within my life that makes me a little bit more focused. But to back up what I'm saying right now let me give you a couple of studies. Then I'm going to dive into the actual science, into the actual research, from some new studies that are starting to show some really emerging interesting things as far as brain density and gray matter goes. So this first study was published in the JAMA Internal Medicine journal. And it took a look at 47 different studies, it's what's called a meta-study where they look at multitudes of studies over a period of time. There is overall 3,515 participants in this meta-study, and what they found in this analysis is that those that meditate ended up having lower levels of anxiety, lower levels of depression and lower levels of pain, markedly. So what we can conclude from this is that perhaps maybe the people that meditate are better at managing these things within their life. But it doesn't necessarily mean that meditation triggered it. Where's the cause and effect? The other study that I want to reference was published in the journal of the Frontiers of Immunology. It took a look at 18 different studies with 846 participants over the course of 11 years. I love studies like this because they look at a wide spectrum of things they look at things throughout different technological advances, they look at things through different advances in our cultures and different mindsets in general. Correct Meditation Posture and Motivation

12:15
Anything that is worthwhile doing in life requires some careful preparation. Meditation is no exception. Before we jump right into doing the meditation practice itself, it's important to make sure that the body is correctly positioned. When the body, which is our foundation for meditation, is correctly placed, then we will have a strong foundation to build our meditation practice on. Similarly, with the correct motivation for practice, our determination will be strengthened and we will be less likely to waver in our practice. This episode takes you through the seven point posture (of Vairocana), its symbolism and meaning, and briefly touches on the importance of setting the correct motivation for our practice. There are always some ideas, bang in the middle of consciousness, that are thoroughly and immediately clear to us: for example, that we love our children. Or that we have to be out of the house by 7.40am. Or, that we are keen to have something salty to eat right now. 5 Quick Yoga Poses For THYROID Problems & Disorders

02:56
LEARN how yoga poses can help you to treat THYROID disorders like like Hypothyroidism & abnormal THYROID levels! Can yoga be helpful for thyroid treatment? One of the most common thyroid diseases is Hypothyroidism, which results from the thyroid gland producing an insufficient amount of thyroid hormone known as thyroxine. Major symptoms of hypothyroidism are fatigue, tremor, nervousness, concentration problems, sweating, increase in bowel movement and rapid weight loss. Thyroid problems are more prevalent with the women especially after the pregnancy or menopause. Hatha Yoga offers several poses to stimulate the thyroid gland & treat hypothyroidism and get rid of thyroid problems in women and men effectively. Here is a list of 5 thyroid exercises you can follow to get rid of hypothyroidism/hyperthyroidism: # Sharvangasana / Shoulder Stand - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKNoV4whglc # Halasana / Plough Pose - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmerP6a8McE # Bhujangasana / Cobra Pose - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LK6OqTIqlZs # Dhanurasana / Bow Pose - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUA8TCfUlgw # Ustrasana / Camel Pose - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XcwltuAtz8 Thyroid Disease: The thyroid or endocrine glands consists of two connected lobes. The thyroid gland is found in the neck, below the thyroid cartilage(which forms the Adam's apple). The thyroid gland controls how quickly the body uses energy, makes proteins, and controls how sensitive the body is to other hormones. It participates in these processes by producing thyroid hormones, the principal ones being triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (sometimes referred to as tetraiodothyronine (T4)). These hormones regulate the growth and rate of function of many other systems in the body. T3 and T4 are synthesized from iodine and tyrosine. The thyroid also produces calcitonin, which plays a role in calcium homeostasis. People can suffer from hyperthyroidism. An overactive thyroid, is defined as an overproduction of the thyroid hormones T3and T4. This condition is most commonly caused by the development of Graves' disease, an autoimmune disease in which anomalous antibodies stimulate the thyroid to secrete excessive quantities of thyroid hormones. The disease can progress to the formation of a toxic goiter as a result of thyroid growth in response to a lack of negative feedback mechanisms. It presents with symptoms such as a thyroid goiter, protruding eyes (exophthalmo), palpitations, excessive sweating, diarrhea, weight loss, muscle weakness and unusual sensitivity to heat. The appetite is often increased. People can also suffer hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism is the underproduction of the thyroid hormones T3 and T4. Hypothyroid disorders may occur as a result of # Congenital thyroid abnormalities # Autoimmune disorders such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, # Iodine deficiency # The removal of the thyroid following surgery to treat severe hyperthyroidism and/or thyroid cancer. Typical symptoms are abnormal weight gain, tiredness, baldness, cold intolerance, and bradycardia. Hypothyroidism is treated with hormone replacement therapy, such as levothyroxine, which is typically required for the rest of the patient's life. Yoga for Thyroid Problems: Practicing Yoga for thyroid problems is a natural way to get rid of this medical condition. By practicing yoga regularly, you see normalcy in the production and release of the thyroid hormone. This ensures you reduce the dependency of thyroid medication. However, before starting any physical activity or exercise, always consult a physician. These asanas have been performed by a trained yoga instructor. MBCT Body Scan (Long): Mindfulness Meditation Practice, MBCT Body Scan

35:56
Body Scan (Long): Mindfulness Meditation Practice, MBCT Body Scan Dr Hagen Rampes http://www.mindfulness-healing.co.uk The Body Scan is a classic mindfulness practice (with acknowledgement to Jon Kabat-Zin) which is taught in mindfulness courses. The practice is best done lying down. The intention of the practice is to train one's attention to observe body sensations systematically in different parts of the body. It's best to approach the practice without any expectations. http://www.hagenrampes.com Practising mindfulness as taught in MBCT can prevent depressive relapse in people who have experienced recurrent depression and there is emerging evidence that it is helpful for people who have experienced other mental health problems. The following is an extract from : Prashad J., Rampes S. & Rampes H. (2014). “Benefits of MBCT in treating depression relapse.” The Chronicle of Neurology & Psychiatry 17(2): 3-13. Major Depressive Disorder is among the most prevalent mental disorders, affecting approximately 15% of adults. 50% of patients who recover from an initial episode of depression will have a subsequent episode, and patients with at least two prior episodes have a 70% lifetime risk of relapse. These high rates of relapse have been traditionally managed with a combination of antidepressant medication and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). MBCT has emerged as an alternative intervention for preventing depression relapse. CBT provides acute treatment for mild to moderate depression and helps individuals to recognize that their thinking styles contribute to their sad moods and despair. While CBT’s focus is changing thought content, MBCT involves a characteristic decentering from automatic, negative cognitive routines e.g. rumination. MBCT combines the principles of mindfulness with those of CBT with mindfulness being the core component. Mindfulness is a style of meditative practice that involves the intentional focusing of one’s attention on awareness of the present moment. The attitude that is cultivated during mindfulness practice is one of being a curious observer: noticing body sensations, thoughts, feelings whilst being non-judgemental, non-striving and accepting. It was Zindel Segal (University of Toronto), Mark Williams (University of Oxford) and John Teasdale (University of Cambridge) who developed MBCT. The program was adapted from the 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn (University of Massachusetts Medical School). An expanding body of research literature reveals that mindfulness induces physiological changes in the brain and alters neural processes. The amygdala, cortical midline structure, anterior insula and lateral prefrontal cortex have all been implicated in these changes. A recent randomised clinical trial RCT by Segal (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3311113/) concluded that “MBCT offers protection against relapse/recurrence on a par with that of maintenance antidepressant pharmacotherapy”. A meta-analysis by Piet (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0272735811000973) of 6 studies involving 593 patients found that MBCT significantly reduced the risk of relapse by 35% and for patients who had 3 or more past episodes of depression, the reduction was 44%. They also reported that both MBCT and antidepressant medication reduced relapse risk to a similar degree. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) in the United Kingdom recommends MBCT as an effective treatment in the prevention of depressive relapses.
