What is COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY? What does COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY mean? COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY meaning - COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY definition - COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license Counseling psychology is a psychological specialty that encompasses research and applied work in several broad domains: counseling process and outcome; supervision and training; career development and counseling; and prevention and health. Some unifying themes among counseling psychologists include a focus on assets and strengths, person–environment interactions, educational and career development, brief interactions, and a focus on intact personalities. In Australia., counseling psychology programs are accredited by the Australia Psychological Society (APS). To become licensed as a counseling psychologist, one must meet the criteria of a psychologist's licence (3 years studying Bachelor Degree in Psychology, 4th year Honours degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology, and two-year full-time supervised practice plus 80 hours of professional development). Counseling psychologists are employed in a variety of settings depending on the services they provide and the client populations they serve. Some are employed in colleges and universities as teachers, supervisors, researchers, and service providers. Others are employed in independent practice providing counseling, psychotherapy, assessment, and consultation services to individuals, couples/families, groups, and organizations. Additional settings in which counseling psychologists practice include community mental health centers, Veterans Administration medical centers and other facilities, family services, health maintenance organizations, rehabilitation agencies, business and industrial organizations and consulting within firms. In 2014, the median salary for counseling psychologists in the United States was US$68,900. Counseling psychologists are interested in answering a variety of research questions about counseling process and outcome. Counseling process refers to how or why counseling happens and progresses. Counseling outcome addresses whether or not counseling is effective, under what conditions it is effective, and what outcomes are considered effective—such as symptom reduction, behavior change, or quality of life improvement. Topics commonly explored in the study of counseling process and outcome include therapist variables, client variables, the counseling or therapeutic relationship, cultural variables, process and outcome measurement, mechanisms of change, and process and outcome research methods. Classic approaches appeared early in the US in the field of humanistic psychology by Carl Rogers who identified the mission of counseling interview as "to permit deeper expression that the client would ordinarily allow himself"

The Attachment Theory: How Childhood Shapes Your Life

07:36
The attachment theory argues that a strong emotional and physical bond to one primary caregiver in our first years of life, is critical to our development. If our bonding is strong and we are securely attached, then we feel safe to explore the world. If our bond is weak, we feel insecurely attached. We are afraid to leave or explore a rather scary-looking world. Because we are not sure if we can return. Often we then don't understand our own feelings. Special thanks for our patroeon supporters: Ville Medeiros, Chutimon Nuangnit, Cedric Wang, Mike, Eva Marie Koblin, Julien Dumesnil, Mathis and the others. You are amazing !!! For those who feel like they can’t help themselves, or can’t find trust through their partners of family, we recommend looking for professional support through a therapy. If you are able to form a secure attachment to a therapist, he can become the one who provides you with that secure base. Here three of possible therapies: 1. Psychoanalysis. The aim of psychoanalysis therapy is to release repressed emotions and experiences, i.e., make the unconscious conscious. In order to do that they therapist might try to bring back some childhood memories, to work at the root cause of the problem. 2. Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). CBT is a psycho-social intervention that is widely used for improving mental health. Instead of trying to bring you back in time, it aims to explain you whats going on inside your brain and how to cope with irrational feelings or fears. 3. The Hoffmann Process. This 7-8 days guided process, designed by the American psychologist Hoffmann, brings participants back into their childhood to reconnect with their parents at the time when attachment is formed. Its very intensive. Why I Quit Being a Therapist -- Six Reasons by Daniel Mackler

30:44
http://wildtruth.net -- I was a psychotherapist in New York for ten years. I've often been asked my reasons for ending my therapy practice, and here they are. I touch on the subjects of the screwed-up mental health system, the unscientific nature of diagnosis and psychiatric medications, the stress of working with traumatized clients, vicarious trauma in the therapist, payments and awful insurance companies, the exhausting nature of the work, the heavy responsibility, pressure to use force on clients (which I never did), and professional liability, to name a few...

Leo Sprinkle, PhD on VERITAS Radio | The Psychology of Alien Contact | Segment 1 of 2

01:24:30
This is Segment 1 of 2. Segment 1 is being provided as a courtesy of VERITAS Radio. Go to http://www.veritasradio.com to listen to Segment 2. VERITAS does not have sponsors and survives on your voluntary subscription only. Thank you. S y n o p s i s Long before it was popular to explore the extraterrestrial presence, Dr. R. Leo Sprinkle was quietly, professionally, and sensitively working on this great mystery. He became a life line for those who had experienced unusual contact. This legendary pioneer of research into the UFO contactee and reincarnation phenomena at long last shares his personal story and the insights that he has gathered over the many years. With his professional psychological training and his incredible, natural metaphysical gifts, Dr. Sprinkle reaches conclusions and insights that have escaped others. Dr. Sprinkle provides a unique perspective in the psychology of alien contact and abduction and injects necessary humor and ubiquitous grace. B i o This legendary pioneer of UFO contactee research and reincarnation finally tells his personal story and shares his extensive knowledge. In his book Soul Samples, Dr. R. Leo Sprinkle presents information gathered from hundreds of hypnosis clients and participants in psychological studies. He began his career in psychology with the idea of being a conventional, practicing "scientist" in the traditional sense. However, two close encounters with UFOs shattered Dr. Sprinkle's conventional reality and shifted his direction in life. After the second incident experienced with his wife, he knew that he had to investigate the UFO phenomena, and that it would be a lonely task. Dr. Sprinkle began his investigations from the conventional viewpoint, but found he was unable to make further progress until he became aware of—and accepted— the psychical aspects of UFO phenomena. He became more and more skeptical—ironically not of the reality of "flying saucers," but of the concept of "reality" as defined and developed by the current scientific community. As a pioneer in the UFO field, Dr. Sprinkle was in the limelight early on and participated in many regional and national television programs, including ABC-TV (That's Incredible) and NBC-TV (Tom Snyder,Tomorrow Show) and NBC's UFOs: Fact or Fantasy. He has appeared on many panels with scientists such as J. Allen Hynek and Carl Sagan. Ruth Montgomery included a chapter on Sprinkle's activities in her 1985 book, Aliens Among Us. He has been invited to speak at several international conferences and numerous other meetings and conferences. With his pioneering view of the role contactees played within the UFO/ET phenomena, he started the first UFO Investigation Conference for "contactees" held on the campus of the University of Wyoming. Dr. Sprinkle received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri in 1961. He completed his BA & MPS at the University of Colorado in 1952 and 1956 respectively. Dr. Sprinkle was a Professor of Counseling Services at the University of Wyoming and for the last 13 years of his career he served as the Director of Counseling Services. Currently, he is Professor Emeritus of Counseling Services at the University of Wyoming and a Counseling Psychologist in Laramie, Wyoming. He is nationally certified and licensed and a Registrant of Counsel for the National Register of Health Service Providers. Additionally Dr. Sprinkle is a member of several Professional Organizations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Association for Counseling, and the Association for Past-Life Research and Therapies. His publications include several encyclopedia entries, a half dozen book chapters, and approximately 50 published articles on the following topics: counseling theory and practice; ESP; hypnosis; reincarnation; and UFO research. Some of his articles include: Personal Characteristics of UFO Witnesses, University of Wyoming, 1986 Hypnotic and Psychic Implications in the Investigation of UFO Reports. With C.E. Lorenzen and J. Lorenzen, Encounters with UFO Occupants, New York: Berkley Press. What are the Implications of UFO Experiences?Journal for UFO Studies, 1, No. 1. Dr Sprinkle and his family have developed and marketed a booklet and videotape on self hypnosis procedures: Trance Forming Yourself.

5 Ways to Overcome Procrastination! psychology and mental health help with therapist Kati Morton

04:30
Pre-order My New Book Today! ARE YOU OK? http://bit.ly/2s0mULy It is that time of year when we have high school or university finals or year-end projects to complete. It causes anxiety for most of us whether we are students or in the work force... So how do we stop procrastinating? First, I think it's important to know where procrastination comes from. Is it because we had an authoritative parent who told us what to do and when? Do we love that rush when we complete a task at the very last minute? What about not wanting to take responsibility for a choice or an action? Maybe that's why we don't like to do thing ahead of time and make important decisions. Also, it could be due to us not wanting to fail, and if we didn't really try, then we can't say that we failed. Instead we can blame it on not having enough time or not trying at all. Whatever the cause is, let's talk about ways to overcome it! Here are 5 tips: 1. Figure out what triggers you. Is it someone telling you to do something? Or being given an unrealistic deadline? What leads you to not wanting to get started at all? 2. Not mixing your areas. I have talked about this in other videos, because it is so important that we not try to study where we sleep or visa versa. Keeping areas separate allows our mind and body to know what it is we are asking it for when we go to a certain area. 3. Do NOT make to-do lists longer than 7 items. This can just overwhelm us and cause us to stop before we start. We can do 7 new items each day, so you can still get a lot of things done each day. Also, make sure you are breaking down big items into smaller chunks. That will ensure we get going on a project sooner rather than later. 4. Take breaks! We can only focus for about 45 minutes at a time. Therefore, in order to be productive throughout the day we will need to take breaks accordingly. 5. Reward progress! No matter how small the completed tasks are, we need to reward all of the small steps we take towards our goals. I hope this was helpful! I know how hard it can be to get started sometimes, and with the holiday season upon us, there are SO many distractions! Please share and give this a thumbs up! You never know who may benefit from these tips :) xox The article I mentioned: https://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/200507/why-we-procrastinate PATREON https://www.patreon.com/katimorton WEBSITE http://www.katimorton.com TWITTER http://www.twitter.com/katimorton FACEBOOK http://www.facebook.com/katimorton1 TUMBLR http://www.katimorton.tumblr.com PINTEREST http://www.pinterest.com/katimorton1 HELP! What is APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY? What does APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY mean? APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY meaning

What is APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY? What does APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY mean? APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY meaning - APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY definition - APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Applied psychology is the use of psychological methods and findings of scientific psychology to solve practical problems of human and animal behavior and experience. Mental health, organizational psychology, business management, education, health, product design, ergonomics, and law are just a few of the areas that have been influenced by the application of psychological principles and findings. Some of the areas of applied psychology include clinical psychology, counseling psychology, evolutionary psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, legal psychology, neuropsychology, occupational health psychology, human factors, forensic psychology, engineering psychology, school psychology, sports psychology, traffic psychology, community psychology, medical psychology. In addition, a number of specialized areas in the general field of psychology have applied branches (e.g., applied social psychology, applied cognitive psychology). However, the lines between sub-branch specializations and major applied psychology categories are often blurred. For example, a human factors psychologist might use a cognitive psychology theory. This could be described as human factor psychology or as applied cognitive psychology. The founder of applied psychology was Hugo Münsterberg. He came to America from Italy, and, like many aspiring psychologists during the late 19th century, originally studied philosophy. Münsterberg had many interests in the field of psychology such as purposive psychology, social psychology and forensic psychology. In 1907 he wrote several magazine articles concerning legal aspects of testimony, confessions and courtroom procedures, which eventually developed into his book, On the Witness Stand. The following year the Division of Applied Psychology was adjoined to the Harvard Psychological Laboratory. Within 9 years he had contributed eight books in English, applying psychology to education, industrial efficiency, business and teaching. Eventually Hugo Münsterberg and his contributions would define him as the creator of applied psychology. In 1920, the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP) was founded, as the first international scholarly society within the field of psychology. Most professional psychologists in the U.S. worked in an academic setting until World War II. But during the war, the armed forces and the Office of Strategic Services hired psychologists in droves to work on issues such as troop morale and propaganda design. After the war, psychologists found an expanding range of jobs outside of the academy. Since 1970, the number of college graduates with degrees in psychology has more than doubled, from 33,679 to 76,671 in 2002. The annual numbers of masters' and PhD degrees have also increased dramatically over the same period. All the while, degrees in the related fields of economics, sociology, and political science have remained constant. Professional organizations have organized special events and meetings to promote the idea of applied psychology. In 1990, the American Psychological Society held a Behavioral Science Summit and formed the "Human Capital Initiative", spanning schools, workplace productivity, drugs, violence, and community health. The American Psychological Association declared 2000–2010 the Decade of Behavior, with a similarly broad scope. Psychological methods are considered applicable to all aspects of human life and society.

What is TRANSPERSONAL PSYCHOLOGY? What does TRANSPERSONAL PSYCHOLOGY mean? TRANSPERSONAL PSYCHOLOGY meaning - TRANSPERSONAL PSYCHOLOGY definition - TRANSPERSONAL PSYCHOLOGY explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Transpersonal psychology is a sub-field or "school" of psychology that integrates the spiritual and transcendent aspects of the human experience with the framework of modern psychology. It is also possible to define it as a "spiritual psychology". The transpersonal is defined as "experiences in which the sense of identity or self extends beyond (trans) the individual or personal to encompass wider aspects of humankind, life, psyche or cosmos". It has also been defined as "development beyond conventional, personal or individual levels". Issues considered in transpersonal psychology include spiritual self-development, self beyond the ego, peak experiences, mystical experiences, systemic trance, spiritual crises, spiritual evolution, religious conversion, altered states of consciousness, spiritual practices, and other sublime and/or unusually expanded experiences of living. The discipline attempts to describe and integrate spiritual experience within modern psychological theory and to formulate new theory to encompass such experience. Transpersonal psychology has made several contributions to the academic field, and the studies of human development, consciousness and spirituality. Transpersonal psychology has also made contributions to the fields of psychotherapy and psychiatry.

Psychological flexibility: How love turns pain into purpose | Steven Hayes | TEDxUniversityofNevada

19:40
What can we do to prosper when facing pain and suffering in our lives? More than a thousand studies suggest that a major part of the answer is learning psychological flexibility. Steven C. Hayes is one of the researchers who first identified that process and put it into action in the form of a popular acceptance and mindfulness method called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. In this emotional talk, Hayes distills the essence of psychological flexibility down into a few easy to understand sentences. He takes viewers through a harrowing journey into his own panic disorder, to the very moment in his life when he made this life changing choice: I will not run from me. Hayes shows how making that choice allows us to connect with our own deep sense of meaning and purpose, arguing that taking a loving stance to your own pain allows you to bring love and contribution into the world. Steven C. Hayes is Nevada Foundation Professor at the Department of Psychology at the University of Nevada. An author of 38 books and more than 540 scientific articles, he has shown in his research how language and thought leads to human suffering, and has developed “Acceptance and Commitment Therapy” a powerful therapy method that is useful in a wide variety of areas. His popular book “Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life” was featured in Time Magazine among several other major media outlets and for a time was the number one best selling self-help book in the United States. Dr. Hayes has been President of several scientific societies and has received several national awards, such as the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

How To Have A Successful Mental Health Counseling Career - Part 2

02:55
Need Intake Forms? CLICK HERE►►http://intakeforms.net/ Hi everyone, Jean here with business tip #2 of 3 for how to have a successful mental health counseling career. Have you been considering becoming a mental health counselor? First and foremost you have to believe that your dreams are achievable. Now is a good time to begin visualizing your dream…what does that dream look like? What are you doing? Who are you helping? What kind of problems are you helping your clients resolve? Take some time to write these ideas down. Have you subscribed to our YouTube channel? Just click the red button below the video. Let us help you build your counseling practice. As I mentioned before just about anyone can get an advanced degree in counseling…the question becomes what will you do to set yourself apart...it is never too early to begin. You need to begin NOW setting yourself apart as someone who is exceptional in the field…how do others see you: do you present yourself as a professional in all you do…whether you are currently working in Walmart or the fast food industry, do you make sure that you exceed the standards and expectations of your employer? The number 2 thing you need to know to have a successful mental health counseling career More than ever, you must find a niche 1. A niche is a specialty – an area of expertise that is highly specialized. 2. People with Masters degrees in MH counseling are a dime a dozen. 3. A niche is a specialty area – nutritional counseling, working with a specific clientele: people of a certain religious faith, sexual orientation, disability, illness, lifestyle, diagnosis, ability etc. There are a million different areas you can carve out a niche for yourself.. 4. Within each specialty there could also be subspecialties: nutritional counseling with substance abuse, eating disordered, diabetics, obese individuals Complicated grief and PTSD – working with veterans and their families or the children of veterans Specific skills: Hypnosis, EMDR, other energy therapies are being found to be very effective in treating trauma victims. You may be wondering how you can begin establishing your niche even before you begin your career or without any college education…well you can: • Spend time reading books, articles and journals in subject areas that are of interest to you…become an expert even before you begin your advanced degree. • Look for employment in the field or niche area – for example become a receptionist at a pediatricians office, if you want to work with children. • Work in a special needs class room as an aide if you want to counsel special needs children and their parents. • Interested in working with seniors or Alzheimer patients and their families – volunteer at a local nursing home. It is never too early to begin doing these things. And if you do these things, I can guarantee you that you will be setting yourself apart from about 80-90 % of others going for the same degree. Hope this tip gave you some good food for thought… For counseling forms, tools and tips click the link in the description below. CLICK HERE►►http://intakeforms.net/
