This instruments operates in accordance with the principle of super-heterodyne receiver. It converts the input signal to an intermediate frequency (IF). This operation is carried out with the aid of a mixer and a local oscillator (LO). The input frequency range is converted to a constant IF by varying the LO frequency. In order to accomplish this result, a tunable LO is adopted and it is driven by a saw-tooth wave generator. At IF it has a bandpass filter which bandwidth influences the resolution of the analysis. The trace displayed on the screen is the envelope of the IF filtered signal. This envelope contains the info about the frequency behavior of the input signal.

University of Birmingham Qur’an manuscript among world’s oldest

A Qur’an manuscript held by the University of Birmingham’s Cadbury Research Library has been placed among the oldest in the world thanks to modern scientific methods. Radiocarbon analysis has dated the parchment on which the text is written to the period between AD 568 and 645 with 95.4% accuracy. The test was carried out in a laboratory at the University of Oxford. The result places the leaves close to the time of the Prophet Muhammad, who lived between AD 570 and 632. Researchers conclude that the Qur’an manuscript is among the earliest written textual evidence of the Islamic holy book known to survive. This has been a part of the work carried out for my MSc in Marine Structural Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science & Technology (NTNU) during the fall semester of 2012. The model was made in MSC Patran 2012, and the explicit analysis carried out in LS-DYNA. Semi submersible modeled as completely rigid. Wheelhouse modeled with mild steel, kinematic power law strain hardening, and an RTCL fracture criterion. The ship is forced along the longitudinal axis at 10 m/s. This was done in order to create force-displacement and energy-displacement diagrams. Collision time is 1.5 seconds. Approximately 500 CPU-hours was needed.

Changes to immigration laws which require British citizens to have a minimum income before they can sponsor a spouse's visa have been upheld by the Court of Appeal. The measures, introduced in 2012, were described as "unjustified" by the High Court last year - but three judges on Friday upheld the government's appeal. They said the rules were "lawful". The government said it was "delighted", while campaigners said the impact of the decision would be "devastating". Under the new family migration policy only British citizens, or those with refugee status, who earn at least £18,600 a year can sponsor their non-European spouse's visa. This rises to £22,400 for families with a child, and a further £2,400 for each extra child. The Minimum Income Requirement (MIR) policy had been challenged on the basis that the rules were discriminatory and interfered with Article 8 of the Human Rights Act, the right to a private and family life. 'Not correct' In Friday's ruling, Lord Justice Aitkens said the 2013 judgement "was not correct". He said relevant analysis had been carried out by the government before the measures were introduced and the judgement of the Home Secretary "cannot be impugned" in the case. He added: "In my judgment it is not the court's job to impose its own view unless, objectively judged, the levels chosen are to be characterised as irrational, or inherently unjust or inherently unfair. In my view they cannot be." Lawyers representing families affected by the MIR have sought leave to appeal. Immigration and Security Minister James Brokenshire said he was "delighted" at Friday's ruling. He added: "We welcome those who wish to make a life in the UK with their family, work hard and make a contribution, but family life must not be established in the UK at the taxpayer's expense and family migrants must be able to integrate. "The minimum income threshold to sponsor family migrants is delivering these objectives and this judgment recognises the important public interest it serves." A Home Office spokesman said 4,000 people whose applications have been on hold would now receive a decision from 28 July. He added: "These are cases which met all the requirements apart from the minimum income threshold and now stand to be refused." 'Protect rights' Campaigners said the changes were a "shocking infringement of the right to family life". Ruth Grove-White, policy director at the Migrants Rights Network, said: "Many UK residents and British citizens have had their lives put on hold for over a year, often with no chance of seeing their loved husbands, wives or children during that time. "These rules are a shocking infringement of the right to family life, as almost half of the UK working population earns below the required amount." She added: "Today's judgment is not the end of the story. We will keep campaigning for rules that respect the right of UK residents to live with their family, and hope that government will see sense and make the changes that are needed to protect these rights." Paul Blomfield MP, chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Migration, said: "Today's Court of Appeal judgment will come as a disappointment for the thousands of families across the UK who remain apart as a result of these rules."

Cancer that occurs in individuals is caused by the accumulation of genetic mutations. Although cancer susceptibility genes have been found and drugs that can be used on numerous people have been developed, the success rate is less than satisfactory. Since cancer is ultimately different between individuals, we believe that a tailor-made specific treatment for each individual is required. DNA sequencing is carried out on cancer cells from individuals which have accumulated genetic mutations, and the degree of activity comprehensively analyzed via RNA sequencing. Using a newly developed bioinformatics software, the individualized antigen or "neoantigen" is then narrowed down. Next, the software calculates the possible sites of antigen-presentation by Human Leukocyte Antigens of individuals, as well as peptide fragments with the highest affinity. Finally, from the countless peptide fragments resulting from mutation, the complete personalized true epitope will be the neoepitope. Confirmation of IFNγ production is carried out using in vitro assays to narrow down the epitope candidate.

The reasons for this creation would partially be the mental torment that we have previously noted. However, the vast majority of his story is a straight out lie with reversals such as, “This is not honest,” “I said doubts,” “We fake it,” and “My bullshit.” Part of his motivation is to obtain notoriety with reversals such as “I live when they look, (0r take notice of me)” and “Feel I wanted a bud (buddy).” Other than these small clues into his motivation and veracity, most reversals make absolutely no sense which is the classic sign of a delusional mind. Some examples are, “Earning if you rent,” The mailmen suffer,” “we’ll miss the brain,” and “They’re dying in Brazil.” In conclusion, Donald Marshal is a disturbed man who is dealing with a troubled mind. "The BMW Group has introduced computer tomography (CT) into prototype development, production and analysis – a first in the automotive industry. Thanks to this technology, the full range of vehicles, from MINI to Rolls-Royce, can now be quality-controlled even in the early stages of development. Scans are performed by four robots which move around the outside of the prototype to produce several thousand cross-sectional images. These are then used for detailed examinations of innovations, new materials and bonding technologies. Until now, vehicles have had to be dismantled for analysis, but CT allows checks to be carried out with the vehicle completely intact. The new X-ray system is based in the BMW Group Pilot Plant in the Research & Innovation Centre (FIZ) in Munich, at the intersection between Development and Production. Udo Hänle, head of Production Integration and Pilot Plant: “The use of this state-of-the-art computer tomography system is a major step forward for us as it will help us to improve the quality of our products even further. We can now analyse our prototypes in minute detail without having to dismantle them first. CRIMP DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING AND MATERIALS SCIENCE, MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY, USA Electron diffraction has been used for many years to characterize materials at the nanoscale. Historically these studies have been carried out using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), which not only allows diffraction studies based on selected area electron diffraction (SAED) and convergent beam electron diffraction (CBED), but also imaging and defect analysis based on diffraction contrast. A primary difficulty in using TEM has been the limitations imposed by the preparation and use of TEM thin foils. As an alternative approach, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) offers the ability to carry out a number of different types of electron diffraction studies on bulk specimens. Selected area channeling patterns (SACPs) and electron back scattered diffraction (EBSD) patterns can be used to measure crystalline orientations at spatial resolutions in the micron range. Electron channeling contrast imaging (ECCI) can be used to image nanoscale crystalline defects such as dislocations and deformation twins. In many respects, the image formation in ECCI is analogous to diffraction contrast in TEM, and similar contrast analyses can be carried out. This talk will cover the basic processes of electron diffraction and channeling phenomena in bulk samples, along with the experimental parameters involved with carrying out electron diffraction/channeling analyses. A number of examples will be presented that illustrate the capabilities and advantages of using ECCI for defect imaging and analysis including the examination of defect structures at crack tips and edges, the study of defect generation in in-situ loaded samples, and the analysis of deformation transfer and nucleation of microcracks at grain boundaries. Additionally, examples of the application of ECCI to the non-destructive imaging of dislocations in electronic devices will be presented.

Tamil Nadu Technology Development & Promotion Centre (TNTDPC), a joint initiative of the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Confederation of Industry has conducted a study on Resource Use Management of Small Scale Industries in Adoption of Recommended Technologies supported by Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India. Contextually, the research study on analysis of resource use management of small scale industries in adoption of recommended technologies has been carried out for select sectors. The Textile, Food Processing, Leather and Auto Components Sectors in and around Chennai have been studied in the report. Most SMEs, particularly the smaller ones, lack the necessary resources to commit to long-term strategies and investments. Their management is largely involved in daily operational practice, and there is no time or money available for activities not directly related to the primary process. There is lack of awareness on the added value of resource use management as a powerful tool to meet their business objectives and may not be aware of the benefits that accrue from implementation of the system. The report mainly concentrates on integrated resource management for maximization of returns from available expertise and inputs. It assesses the status of management of available resources by SMEs and it recommends solutions to overcome encountered barriers. Why Seating Matters: Improving Elderly Lives, Reducing Pressure Ulcers

This is the research project that is changing the world of healthcare seating. Researchers from the Ulster University carried out a 2-year research project to see how proper seating can improve quality of life for older people and those with disabilities in hospital and care settings. The results will surprise and amaze you. The Occupational Therapists and clinicians in the clinical involved lecturers from the Ulster University, and therapists from Seating Matters, including Martina Tierney OT. The trial measured the changes that occurred by intervening with proper seating as opposed to those using regular nursing home or facility chairs. The study showed reductions in pressure ulcers (aka bed sores or pressure injuries), potential savings of millions of pounds in the cost of care, 95% recorded improvements in blood oxygen levels and a significantly lower amount of moving and handling carried out by care workers. These results could have a real and lasting influence on the health and well-being of elderly people and those with various medical conditions. The resulting report from this randomized control trial shows that the study consisted of 38 participants from 3 nursing home settings, who were randomly assigned to control and intervention groups using computer-generated numbers. The study reported a reduction in pressure ulcers, which has been calculated from the reduction in pressure ulcers/pressure injuries/skin redness in the intervention group. The control group of the study experienced an increase in pressure ulcers during this period. As a pilot study of a specific nature, it was not blinded. The measurement of pressure ulcers was observational and the analysis of the results included various forms, not including statistical analysis. The study has been reviewed and presented at over 30 academic conferences in 3 continents and is pending publication in a respected peer-reviewed journal. If seating assessments for wheelchairs and seating were carried out and these results were replicated in facilities across the world, it would save substantial sums of money for the healthcare system and make significant improvements in patient's lives. Large scale geospatial data analysis through efficient supervised machine learning

The present thesis aims to test the viability of the integration of machine learning capabilities into web map servers. The validation of this hypothesis has been carried out by the development of a pre-operational prototype. The developed prototype is a platform for thematic mapping by supervised learning from very high resolution remote sensing imagery data through a web platform. This contribution overcomes the current state of art, characterized by the separation of the two areas, which requires a continuous involvement of remote sensing experts in thematic mapping intensive tasks: labour intensive tasks are supplemented by the integration of the scalability capabilities from machine learning engines and web map servers. With this hypothesis the application field referred to the semi-automatic creation of large scale thematic maps can open up different fields, from agriculture to the environmental monitoring field, to expert users of these applications domains with limited specific knowledge of remote sensing techniques. Semantic tagging algorithms based on supervised classification methods can be exploited for thematic map creation from raster data based on user needs. This requires the integration of machine learning capabilities within web map servers, along with a simple interface that enables navigation and the monitoring of geospatial learning. The adaptive nature of this learning, along with its integration into a web server, requires a classification algorithm characterized by efficient management and processing of data in time scales compatible with traditional web browsing. At the same time, the volume of data managed by remote sensing applications motivates the transfer of the developed methodology to cloud environments under the Big Data paradigm. Research at CPB is carried out on CPB's own initiative, or at the request of the government, parliament, individual members of parliament, national trade unions or employers federations. CPB works at the crossroads of the economic sciences and public policy. No planning Literally translated, CPB in Dutch means 'Central Planning Bureau'. This has been a misnomer from the start, as CPB has never been engaged in economic planning. It analyses the effects of current and future government policies. Hence, our English name: CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis. However, because CPB is so well known in the Netherlands, we keep the name our founders gave us. Independent CPB is a part of the ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation. Its director is appointed by the Minister, in consultation with other members of the government. However, CPB is fully independent as far as the contents of its work are concerned. It also has its own legal mandate and an independent executive and advisory committee. This Central Planning Committee (CPC) is currently chaired by Jan Michiel Hessels. Funding CPB is an integral part of the budget of the ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation. On the day of 9/11 the North tower was "struck" first. There is only one piece of film footage known to have recorded this event. The second "impact" was recorded by between 50 and 60 different video cameras, each having a different viewing perspective of the same event. Even though there are so many recordings of what happened, the evidence in these recordings casts huge doubt over whether boeing 767's were used in the attacks. Other non video evidence also supports the "no planes" hypothesis. In this film Richard D. Hall analyses all of the video footage of the alleged second impact and compares what was seen on video with a 3 dimensional computer model of the World Trade Centre and surrounding area. The findings of this film bring us one step closer to the truth about how 9/11 was carried out. A major finding is uncovered in the analysis which shows official radar data recorded by the military was different to that reported in a civilian radar report. The discrepancy suggests one of these sets of data is bogus and sheds light on how the illusion may have been created. It seems 9/11 was a highly organised, technologically sophisticated psychological operation which fooled half the world. Not only was advanced technology being deployed in the form of an energy weapon to "dematerialise" the towers, but further advanced technology may also have been used to create the visual illusion of passenger airplanes in the sky. Introduction The simulation exercises in the new set of locks of Panama Canal were carried out between September 11th 2015 and April 14th 2016 at FHM the “Fundação Homem de Mar” Manoeuvring Simulator Class A in Rio de Janeiro. The study aimed at analysing, using mathematical models, the safe manoeuvrability of a Neo-Panamax vessel, fully loaded, on day light, passing the new locks and assisted by tugboats of similar characteristics than those operating at the time the study was implemented. Different environmental conditions historically recorded in the area, including current and wind, were used in the simulation exercises.
