100 TV Theme Songs on Guitar | Reverb Riff Marathons

10:50
We're always looking back at the history of popular music to find inspiring sounds and melodies. In many cases, the most well-known and recognizable tunes come from a different medium altogether: TV. From nostalgia-rich classics played by the likes of Howard Roberts, to the contemporary favorites you skip over as you binge watch on Netflix, there's no lack of infectious hooks to find in the annals of television. Take a look at the video above as local riff-master Joe takes a play from our pals at the Chicago Music Exchange and leads us on a journey through 100 TV theme songs. For this marathon, Joe is playing a lovely Nash JM63 through an Earthquaker Dunes and Levitation, an Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail, a Fulltone Catalyst and a DD-5 Delay, all running into a Tone King Falcon combo. Of course, there are a lot more than 100 classic TV themes, and we couldn't include them all. One of your favorites not make this edition of #RiffMarathons? Let us know in the comments. Chicago Music Exchange Review

03:34
➜Get More: https://acousticlife.tv/category/reviews/acoustic-guitar-resources/ I love travelling. And being that my son Ayden lives in Chicago, I find myself there quite often. Whenever I'm on the North Side of the city particularly on Lincoln Ave. I visit the Chicago Music Exchange. This store's walls are lined with all things guitar... and I'm talking all things guitar, from every era and of every style. This store is chock full of vintage guitars, new guitars, and a whole entire room dedicated to Acoustics... and when I say room what I really mean is an entire "wing" of the store. You will not be disappointed if you check these guys out, and if you end up going make sure to grab a donut from across the street first... you're gonna be there a while.

Premier Guitar’s Shawn Hammond visits the Windy City’s famed and ultra-vibey Chicago Music Exchange, where the store’s helpful staff shows us highlights from their impressive inventory of vintage gear—from Fender, Gibson, and Martin instruments to Marshall, Vox, and Ampeg amps—as well as their premium selection of boutique axes, amps, and pedals. We also see extreme rarities like a Dumble-modified Park amp formerly owned by Ben Harper, a vintage harp guitar, and a sunburst 1956 Gibson ES-295—one of approximately 10 ever made.

History of the Fender Jazzmaster | CME Gear Demo

05:35
Shelby guides us through the history of the Fender Jazzmaster. Four distinct revisions come into play throughout this popular guitar's history: in 1959 (http://bit.ly/2LbL3dN), 1960, 1964 , and 1974; and we were lucky enough to have tremendous examples of each under one roof. 1959 Fender Jazzmaster: The Jazzmaster's first full year of production features a distinct gold anodized pickguard. 1960 Fender Jazzmaster: The gold pickguard is replaced with a tortoise shell, although it retains a slab rosewood fingerboard and clay dot fret markers. 1964 Fender Jazzmaster: The jazzmaster makes the switch to a veneer rosewood fingerboard in place of the slab board (based on lack of materials). 1974 Fender Jazzmaster: Features a bound fingerboard and mother of pearl block fingerboard inlays. Gear Used: Fender Jazzmaster Sunburst 1959 (s918): http://bit.ly/2LbL3dN Fender Jazzmaster Sunburst 1960 (s812):http://bit.ly/2L7Mzh7 Fender Jazzmaster Sunburst 1964 (s220):http://bit.ly/2L7Mzh7 Fender Jazzmaster Sunburst 1974 (s458):http://bit.ly/2L7Mzh7 Riffs: "All Blues” by Miles Davis: 1:16 "Shake, Rattle, and Roll” by Bill Haley & His Comets: 0:00 and 2:17 "If I Fell” The Beatles: 3:26 "The Thrill Of It All” Roxy Music: 4:39 Shelby plays in a band called Minor Characters, check them out here: https://www.facebook.com/minorcharacters

Staff Picks Alex Chadwick | CME Staff Picks | Gretsch Broadkaster | Carstens Black Flag

02:57
Alex "100Riffs" Chadwick's Staff Picks: https://goo.gl/if2uyZ Gretsch Broadkaster & Carstens Black Flag, ohh my!!! CME General Manager, Alex "100 Riffs" Chadwick talks about a few of his favorite things in this episode of CME Staff Picks! https://goo.gl/if2uyZ Gretsch 6609TG Broadkaster Why? Sexy tortoise pickguard, beefy Fulltron pickups, flawlessly stable tune-o-matic bridge, silky Bigsby trem... the list goes on for days. This thing bridges my gap between Strat and Les Paul perfectly, with just the right amount of controllable feedback when I need it. Plus for a slightly heavier guy having a bigger guitar is always a good look; its the guitar equivalent of wearing a heavy coat. Thanks Gretsch! https://goo.gl/if2uyZ Carstens Black Flag Why? It f*%king rules! That and my 1971 Marshall 1959 are my two main amps, but the Black Flag gets all the love these days and not just because its smaller and I'm older (and lazier). It sounds massive, the tone is punchy and complex with plenty of bite when you need it, and it breaks up at just the right time. It doesn't hurt that Brian Carstens is a lovely human being and the amp is 100% handmade by the man himself. Let that long hair fly, baby! https://goo.gl/if2uyZ Zvex Double Rock Why? The OG Box Of Rock is my favorite distortion pedal, and the Double Rock is just two of them together at last! You can set either switch to function as a boost or a distortion which is tremendously useful, but more than that it just sounds really damn good. None of that "transparent", "buttery", "low-fat" nonsense, this is some full-fat Greek yogurt right here. This box will set your hair on edge and your amp on fire, its a ballsy rawk machine that doesn't get anywhere near the kudos it deserves (that goes for the original BofR as well). https://goo.gl/if2uyZ Universal Audio Apollo Twin Why? Because getting this interface completely changed my approach to music. The Unison preamps are legit world-class pre's; you can absolutely make a "real" recording with this box that costs less than $1k, and you can do it at home in your underwear (or no underwear if that's your thing, no judgement). UA's software suite is unparalleled and they give you a "greatest hits" bundled with the Twin, which is the perfect place to start your recording journey. For us guitar-bound David Gilmour wannabe's the greatest thing about the Twin is the ability to go direct into the guitar input and run the Unison preamp into their insanely accurate recreations of classic amps (Marshall, Fender, Ampeg, and even more modern offerings like Friedman) and they all sound amazing. I grew up in the 90's when modelers were just coming out and each new release was a buzz of excitement followed immediately by crushing disappointment (looking at you Fender Cyber Twin and every Line 6 amp from my childhood), so I tried this thing with let's say "healthy skepticism", and I'll be damned if it didn't blow my mind how incredibly accurate it sounds. The Plexi in particular is astonishingly good, I use it all the time for recording and just to play through at home because why not? The Twin is also expandable through ADAT for 8 more inputs so you can do full band recording if you want to, its a fantastic unit all around and is the center of my home rig. https://goo.gl/if2uyZ Chicken Picks Badazz 2.0mm Why, just why? Everyone starts naturally with a guitar, then an amp, pedals, pickups, strings, straps, leather pants, band managers, lighting rigs, etc., and somewhere twelve or thirteen more steps down the ladder you'll find "picks". Its often overlooked but the choice of pick is crucial to the tonality of your instrument; I would say at least as important as your choice of string but possibly as important as the pickups themselves. Once I discovered this magical pick by chance at a certain trade show in Anaheim, CA (thanks California Cannabis Conference) it has been the only thing I use, and I've never looked back. Similar to how a bone nut (and bone saddle on an acoustic) will make a guitar sound and feel more "solid" and have more ring and sustain these picks will give your strike a more solid attack, making each note feel bigger and more powerful. It brings out harmonics I could never achieve with other brands, and even though 2mm is pretty thick the striking edge is perfectly beveled for just the right attack. Worth every penny! (endorsement please!) https://goo.gl/if2uyZ

Batman & Robin Join Forces at Chicago Music Exchange

06:24
In October 2012, Batman came through Chicago Music Exchange to demo the Bolin Joker guitar. His visit is remembered by staff as a whirlwind of terror and hilarity; it can be seen here http://youtu.be/QAK1ICFv6ZE. This Halloween, Batman & Robin are joining forces to bring miracles and mischief back to Chicago Music Exchange in this CME original film. Watch Robin earn himself a much-deserved spot on the CME team, while Batman struggles to find his place. From helping out around the store and lending a hand in the repair shop, to stepping in when Batman crosses ethical (and legal) lines - Robin shows us the path of a true hero. Joel Bauman (Batman) plays guitar in the sci-fi yacht metal band Royale.
